BT/OPENREACH ENGINEER (one hour call only)

i have been having internet connection problems for over 2 weeks now,
i have had several Openreach engineers come to my house and the exchange to try and fix,
as of yet the connection is still not up to scratch and i am losing connection every now and then,up to 4-6 hrs at times,
this morning another Openreach engineer came to my house to investigate the problem again,
he had all his equipment out testing the connection,during this testing he asked BT to reset my profile,
which they did, after this testing he said that BT had recognised a few errors on the line,
but he could not look into this any further as my time was up,
he said BT only pay Openreach for one hours work per job and my hour was up,
so he packed his stuff away and away he went,
not knowing what he could have achieved if he had stayed ??
i was gob smacked at this,
has anyone else enjoyed this care and attention from BT and Openreach,
my line is still not rectified as far as i know ?????             ha  ha  ha

Just another "great" idea of the government. Openreach will work for any Service Provider (ie BT, Sky etc) as they are not technically part of BT. The Service Provider hires Openreach to do a job, hence the time limit. If the Openreach Engineer exsceeds the limit of the agreement with the Service Provider then Openreach will be breaking the rules set by the government and may be fined. This is to "improve" the service to the customer. Unlike the old method, when an Engineer came and was left to fix the fault........WONDERFULL!!!!!!

    I have a nearly identical problem with my Ipad 3. Mine is the left channel. I've yet to find help, but have found a number of other posts on this and other forums discussing the issue. People have tried restore, reset etc. Also, cleaning the ports with compressed air or cotton swabs. It appears to be a software issue, but no one is sure.
    Along with the original poster, I'd appreciate any help.

    What version of FCP X?
    Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
    It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
    Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
    Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.

    That's going to be a ridiculous waste of money and energy.
    First of all, the current ATI drivers don't support multiple GPUs, so at the moment even a single 4870X2 would be only a 'normal' 4870 (which is quite a speed beast already). GFX drivers evolve rapidly, so things might look different next month, but when it comes to Linux and hardware there's one Golden Rule: stay away from the newest stuff and wait for proper support to get coded.
    I also wonder what power supply could possibly cope with the differences between idle and full load; that's way beyond 400W. But then, I'm one of those "quiet&green" types where >100W idle is already a bit much.
    I kind of understand that you want to get it done and not worry about hardware for the next 10 years or so, but that's simply not how the hardware world works and never did. At least not for the average consumer.

    Depends on how strong your wifi connection is.
    you can try a reset hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release.

     I've had no signal on my phone for over an hour now, states emergency calls only.  I've tried rebooting it a few times but makes no difference.  Anyone else experiencing this?

    There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
    You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
    Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
    Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Repeat with each of these lines:

    The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
    This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
    You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    you have a one year warranty.  You can purchase an extended warranty called "AppleCare" that will make the warranty 3 years, but you need to purchase it before the mac turns one year old.  Alsoyou do not need a paper, the serial # determines the age of the mac.

    I have a forms 9i application running against a 9i database. There is no 9iAS middle tier - it just uses the Forms OC4J listener servlet.

    no it is not a server side rule.... the only thing the server accepts is idle time. setting it to 0 means always on. but even with high traffic over the vpn tunnel, the connection gets interrupted.
    in programs like ipsecuritas i can set things like duration of connection, but ipsecuritas does not support to get an ip address in the range of the network in the dhcp pool of the router. it only does natting. routing is not possible.
    so ipsecuritas is not disconnecting but not sufficients, so it is not a server side thing.

    Howdy gang. I haven't been here for around six months. Been busy with website stuff. Now that that's done, I can get back to video work. Yeah! The forum looks a bit different, but it looks like you guys are still a super funny and really helpful group.
    Here's my quick question. My boss wants me to put everything I've ever shot on tape into my computer. Now, I know the old saying, one hour of video equals 13 GB. But to be clear, and to be sure I don't buy a harddrive that ends up being too small, does that mean if I capture a one hour MiniDV tape it will take up 13 GB on my harddrive? Or is it 13 GB for an hour that's been exported as a QT movie?
    I should know this. I'm embarrassed for not being sure. But I get kinda panicky and second-guess myself when it comes to asking the boss for new equipment.
    So am I right in figuring that a 500 GB drive will hold footage from about 38 one-hour MiniDV tapes?

    Drive manufacturers sell drives with space calculated in decimal, while the computer sees space calculated as binary.
    To a drive manufacturer, a gigabyte is 1,000 megabytes. To a computer, a gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes. Therefore, when you buy a 500 GB drive (500,000 MB), it's actually only 488.2 GB to the computer (because 500 GB would be 512,000 MB).
    And when an hour of DV is said to be 13 GB, that's 13 * 1,024 MB, not 13 * 1,000 MB.
    If you go by the binary prefixes outlined in this wikipedia article (which have yet to gain traction), a computer's gigabyte should be called a gibibyte (GiB).

  • Update software, up all night, emergency calls only, or restore.

    Everytime I update the software I'm up all night trying to get my phone to work again. As soon as the software is loaded I get the emergency calls only screen on my phone. It takes hours of playing around, restarting, rebooting, Norton goback, you name it to get my phone to restore which takes hours. Why does a simple "upgrade" set me back so far. I have to plan it for weekends when I can stay up all night.
    Help. Apple do something!!!!

    does anyone has a suggestion, why a DROP INDEX takes nearly one hour for a single cube ? Ok, the cube contains a lot of uncompressed data, but could this be the only reason?

    Uncompressed request definately is one of the reason but there could be another possibilites:
    1) Incosistency in cube, do the RSRV test on the cube and remove the inconsistency if there is any.
    Call transaction RSRV.
    - Choose "All Elementary Tests" - "Database."
    - Double-click the line "Database Information about InfoProvider Tables."
    - In the window on the right, choose "Database Information about InfoProvider Tables."
    - Enter the InfoCube name and choose "Execute Tests."
    - After the analysis finishes, choose "Display Messages" and open the analysis tree with the correct time stamp.
    If the figures displayed seem unreasonable, this may be because the optimizer statistics are not up-to-date.
    2) Check in DB01 are there any locks on the system while indexex are droped.
    3) Most important and very usual reason is Database parameters.Ensure you you follow SAP recommendations for Database parameters for example if you are using Oracle 10, check for SAP Note 830576 and execute the report mention in this note (do not forget to change the text for OLAP as mentioned in Note)
    4) Statistics should be updated also as sometimes this causes high time while droping indexes.
    5) You can also do an St12 trace or St05 trace to check where the time is going.

  • Mountain Lion freezes (SBBOD) exactly one hour after boot

    Like many others, I experience the SBBOD on my MBP early 2011 with (GB of RAM and plenty of HD space. I upgraded in Sep/Oct, and everything has been running smoothly up until two weeks ago when I first experienced a crash. Now my MBP freezes EXACTLY one hour after boot or reboot.
    I have tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM, ran the HW Test (no errors), repaired permissions, reinstalled OS, cleaned out outdated SW, plugins and prefs, reset the SMC, cleared caches, deleted the Finder prefs, Time Machine prefs and God only knows what else I've tried of tips & tricks I've found after googling this for a week. I'm running Console constantly, but this doesn't make me much wiser. Sometimes it doesn't record the last minutes before a crash, but the only messages that seem to show up fairly consistently lately are these:

    I'm running Adobe CS5, updated web browsers, Office 2011, Apple Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Messages - but the SBBOD happens in any SW, and also if no SW is opened at all (except Finder). It even happens if I start my Mac in safe mode.
    this is seriously frustrating - so if anyone has any idea what's going on, it would be much appreciated.

    Forget it, I found the solution in a dodgy corner of the discussions: a firmware upgrade as described at the bottom of this thread.
