BT Openzone-H etc.

I switched on my WiFi adapter on my laptop this morning and decided to give BT Openzone/Fon a try out for an hour, by paying £3 by text etc. I got immediate connection after putting in the code supplied and enjoyed about 38 minutes of fast intenet access but then it suddenly stopped and that was it.
Interestingly for some period of time after that and when my hour had expired, i sitll tried to connect with BT Openzone/FON etc but my computer said that it couldn't connect to either and it is only just now when I got home from shopping that I find that I can now connect again and get their homepage. Is this usual as it said that the signal strength is Good/Excellent.
Similarly after the sudden cut off this morning I tried to get both the above using my Android table and my Android phone and another laptop but none of these could connect.

If you're a BT customer and opted in to BTWifi (formally BTFon) then you get free access anyway.
The random drop outs are very common, that's why I gave up a long time ago.

  • Problem connecting to bt openzone

This is a strange problem, I can connect fine to bt openzone/fon etc with my mobile, but when I use the usb adapter in my laptop, it says limited connectivity.  But the adapter isn't faulty as it can connect to my families' wifi connections. Any advice? Have tried fixed ip address and auto ip but still fails.

Just to check, are you sure that you are connecting to BTWif with your phone and that it is not still using 3g. To connect to BTWifi you have to use your primary email address and password to log on.
See this link how to log on

  • Ethernet connection shows openzone

I having great issues with my broadband suddenly been very slow.  I cant load a webpage to test the connection speed such is the slow speed it is running at.
I have a HH2 and its connected through ethernet connection.
To my knowledge i havent changed any settings.
i have noticed that when it picks up the ethernet connection it shows as openzone-h 2.
I have spoken with bt help desk and at first they said there was a miss match on the broadband line.  Though they couldnt explain what one of these was. They rest the broadband line and said their systems were showing speeds of around 6mbps.  left it a few days and still no joy.  Again spoke with them they said there was another miss match and they would reset it.
Is it something simple my end ie settings are wrong etc.
I have changed microfilters, adsl cables, ethernet cables.  even tried wireless connections and used all 3 sockets in the house.  I just cant get the pc to connect to the homehub full stop wirelessly.
any help would be good thanks

sorry but are you trying to connect to the hub wireless or ethernet cable?
If you are using the ethernet cable have you disabled the wifi card first?  if you are trying wireless and getting openzone then go to youe wireless connections and delete all previous coonnections, reboot and try to find your hub ssid not fon/openzone and connect.  see if that then connects to your router

  • BTFON and Openzone all I can get

Just come over to BT the first day everything worked great, good speed etc.  Now I am finding that the Hub disappears and am left with BTFON or OpenZone none of which I can connect to.  Have moved the hub and re-started it many times now am thinking of wiring it.  Have opted out of FON but it is still here and this morning again faced with the same probs.  So moved hub again and re-started now I am on.  But I know that come say around 5 this evening I shall get the same probs.  Why does this keep happening?  All I want is my own Home Broadband nothing else.
    Thanks

try downloading inssider and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. Then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

  • Access to BT Openzone on iPhone 4

Help please..............I have an iPhone4 with the BT FON app on it.  I am (and have been) a BT Total Broadband subscriber for many years.  I have 'opted in' to BT FON/Openzone from my HomeHub.  I can 'see' Openzone/BT FON WiFi icons on the iPhone when I am not at home but when I go to log in, either on the Openzone or BT FON, and enter my normal BT Broadband username and password it merely just junks me back to the log in page again (and again and again!).
Am I missing something here?  Being a BT Total braodband subscriber surely I do not have to buy minutes/new user name etc?  Do I have to have registered anywhere?  How can I gain access?  Help PLEASE!
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Hi bloxidgp
You've stated in your original message that you are connected to btopenzone / btfon.  this is your problem, because you only have a local connection to the access point, the btfon app is unable to verify your logon details.  You will need to connect to your bt hub first then follow the instructions set out in the app.
Once the logon details have been verified and you have accepted the license aggreement you can come out of the app and reselect openzone / fon as your network from the iphones settings menu and then toggle back to the app.  the app will then show you connected to bt openzone / fon.

  • Using Openzone - wifi hotspots

    Hi,
I can use my Touch on my home network and other people's networks flawlessly - Internet, iTunes etc. etc.
However, I have a subscription to BT Openzone. I can connect to Openzone from the splash page, and it accepts user name and password, giving a message saying 'connected to Openzone'.
However, when I then try to use the internet, it just loads up an Openzone page telling me how long i've been on line for. I can't visit any other sites, or use iTunes, MyTube etc. I have tried opening a new window but get the same screen no matter where I try to navigate to.
Any suggestions for how to get around this would be really appreciated
    Dane

I recently brought this issue up on the BT Openzone forums.
It looks like it is a country wide iPod Touch / BT Openzone issue on the Touch.
This could be a BIG oversight by Apple and needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY as BT Openzone is in the top 3 Wifi hotspots providers.
Surely, it was tested in the UK by someone somewhere with all the major hotspot providers.
The thread for the issue can be found at the BT forums: http://www.beta.bt.com/bta/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=514

  • Orange Wifi App - BT Openzone

My Orange contract includes BT Openzone Wifi and I have the password etc
However the sites suggest downloading the Orange WiFi app from the Blackberry App Store enhance the experience i.e. to not have to keep tying in a non memorable password everytime and generally struggle.
I can find any such app on Blackberry App World.
Can anyone help me make the experience less painfull ?
Or let me know where I can find the app ?
Or let me know when the app is coming ?
Currently I get the message when in range, chose it, then get taken to BT openzone, then select Orange, then enter the phone number, then go and find the password and cut/paste it into the screen, which then needs to remain open ..... everytime I do it.
Orange informed me that the password should be remembered automatically but can't even get that to happen.

  • HP PAVILION G6 CONNECTS TO BT FON/OPENZONE BUT NOT...

I have a HP Pavilion G6 Laptop that I have had since 25/12/11. It seems to be having a problem though...
I cannot seem to connect to my BT Homehub 2.0. I am able to connect to other wireless devices and even the BT FON and openzone FROM THE SAME ROUTER! I find this very annoying, as BT FON is irritating with the auto log out and the unreliability of it all.
I have had this problem before, so I phoned up knowhow, and I had to reset my laptop to factory settings. It is now happening again and I have important files that would be a pain to lose! But again, it only refuses connection on this home hub... It is also happy to connect the hub through ethernet...
ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES IS THAT I HAVE OTHER DEVICES (iMAC iPHONES, XBOX 360s ETC.) THAT ALL CONNECT TO IT NO PROBLEM, BUT THIS LAPTOP DOESN'T WANT TO!
This is what I have tried so far:
    1) Contacting BT and having a lovely 1.5 hour remote PC session, getting nowhere...
    2) Changing settings on the router (Change to channel 11, 1 and changing b/g/n to b/g).
    3) Forgetting the wireless drivers on the laptop and re-installing them...
    4) Reset the Hub to factory settings
    5) Changed WPA2 to WPA and WEP.
ALL OF THIS TO NO HOPE!
    PLEASE HELP!

it is not the wireless drivers you are having a problem with you need to remove all shown wireless networks from the laptop then let windows find the networks again when you see your hubs ssid then click on it then enter the encryption code just ensure you delete any other connections

  • Iphone 3gs and openzone and bt fon

    a very good evening,
i have just got a iphone 3gs with orange, they seem to think that i cannot log onto BT fon,
only BY openzone, true or not please. hving spoken to the orange help desk today they are sure that
openzone is ok but fon is not ok i thought from the forums that i could do both, help please
    julian

Im not an i phone user [HTC Desire], so I am making some assumptions about i phone functionality here.
First, your 'into Fon' is pretty quick, but it takes 24hrs ish for your hub to be updated - with a fair wind that it, and we have had some issues with Fon and hubs on here these last few weeks
    Assuming you've joined Fon, and that your hub is Fon activated, having had a long  time with this issue I would say;
Firstly, do not muck about with the BT Fon app. just yet.  Simply see what wi fi connectivity is available from the device.  You should see your own BT hub serial key code and BTOpenzone [or Fon - but probably the former] as well.  Whether [at first] on your own hub or elsewhere, just hook your device up to Fon landing page, and sign in a BTBB customer [very important detail].  You sign in using your primary BT e mail username and password.
But there are dragons, some hubs are not giving out a Fon signature.  Sign in is case sensitive, watch out for any auto capitalization etc.
It should be simple.  Once you've got a Fon enabled hub and managed to sign in, then go to the BT Fon app., and once you installed in on your device ensure that you check the username and password that will come as soon as the download to your device is complete.  Dont assume that because it is complete on your device it will be complete on the Fon app. You dont need the Fon app. to sign in though, it has to be said.
If you are a BTBB customer you can log into BTOZ and Fon, with the proviso's I've put above, and as doubtless some of the other 'Fon victims' may also add to this thread on the forum  Orange have mis-informed you.
Come back if you need any more steer on this.
    Hope that helps

  • BT Openzone activation on Tesco iPhone 4

Hi, with my iPhone 4 contract here in the UK I get use of the BT Openzone WiFi hotspots. Problem is whenever i'm in one I open Safari and it takes me to BT Fon home page, do I need to sign up to something to use BT Openzone or what? I can't see anywhere to activate the feature.
    Cheers for any help

I had recently upgraded my 4S to iOS 6.1.2. All was well except Facetime and iMessage. For "Waiting for Activation" under the iMessage setting, this is what I did after 2 days of waiting:
    Plugged in to PC
backed up contacts etc on iTunes
Reset the iphone from settings>general>reset>erase all data and settings
Set up the phone as new
after setting up restored from back up on iTunes
    iMessage working!
Oh and first it was working from the emails i set up. I had to uncheck all emails from Settings>Messages>Send and receive, to make iMessages shift to my phone number.
Also in my experience saying "OK" or "Cancel" to "Carrier may charge for an SMS" did not make a difference.
Hope it helps everyone stuck at "Waiting for activation"!

  • Fon & Openzone Difference

I want am about to disable my ‘Fon’ service.
Does that mean I will not be able to use my free Openzone minutes when out and about at airports, hotel’s etc ? Because I have opted out of fon ! Or be able to log onto Openzone with my account. Details on BT’s site are ambiguous.
Also, what are the advantage of ‘Fon’ I can’t see any for me as an individual subscriber to BT broadband and of the 15-20 other neighbours BT networks I can see around me none of them have ‘Fon’ switched on.....maybe they are all using my ‘Fon’ !
I heard that I will have to reset my HH2 (soon to change to HH3) to clear out 'Fon' ?

Those are provided by another WiFi company, normally "The Cloud". You get free limited access with a voucher code, but you normally have to register with them first.
I've used BT Wifi at Starbucks and John Lewis with my BTBB details, but Joe Public can also join in through a registration process.  I'm also registered with The Cloud, and yes they do provide free hotspots (eg Wetherspoons, Little Chef, railway stations) but not at JL and Starby's.

  • Why Fon and Openzone

Why do hubs put out 2 signals, BTFon and BTOpenzone but both give a choice of logins? Perhaps there should be an BTtotalbroadband signal as well

    Hi Chrisrae,
BTFON is the chosen name for the BT WiFi community, this would rule out the need for a "BT Total Broadband" SSID, the reason that Openzone is also broadcast is because BT Openzone subscribers (not necessarly BT broadband customers) can use these hotspots as well as the standard commercial Openzone hotspots found in coffee shops and hotels etc.  At one time the Hubs would only broadcast Openzone, however with the succesfull take up of BTFON and its rapid expansion, BT decided to add "BTFON" as an additional SSID so that users could recognise it as being a community hotspot.

  • How to add 'Other' cloud storage accounts - alongside Dropbox, Evernote etc in AiO Remote

I wonder if anybody knows what types of 'Other' accounts can be added in the Cloud Storage settings in HP All In One Printer Remote mobile apps. The usual options for Box, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive etc are there but there is also an option of 'Other' under the 'Add Account' section.
In 'Other' you are asked for the following details:
    Name (An identification name)
    User Name
    Password
    Server URL
I'm wondering whether this is for FTP or WebDAV or HTTP Post etc? I'm hoping the answer is WebDAV. The issue here is that I would rather use a service I host myself than a Public Cloud Service.
Any ideas or assistance gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    James

    @ClioRoughneck
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the HP All In One Printer Remote mobile app. After explore the app, on both Android and iOS, here is what I found.
The option that you describe is only found in the iOS app. I found the "other" that you spoke about in the settings menu. My understanding of this is that you can connect to a server, etc. Here is what it says in my settings:
    Name (My server)
    User Name ([email protected])
    Password
    Server URL (http://host.com)
Please understand that the above example is from an iPad Air running iOS 7.
    Hope this helps.

  • New .TV (pets, recipe, etc.) and Viacom channels not in zap2it or Tivo guides

So, it's been about a month since the new .tv channels came out and two days since the Viacom HD channels were introduced.  And zap2it.com, Tivo, etc. all still don't list ANY of the new channels in their programming guides.
I've opened cases with Tivo.  With Zap2it.  With Verizon.  Everyone points fingers saying it's the other's fault.
In the meantime, for the .TV channels that got added a while back, if you go to zap2it, or Tivo, you get "loor633" for channel name and "to be announced" for guide info for pets.tv.  You get "loor599" for Cars.tv.  You get "loor674" for MYDestination.tv.  Etc.
And for the Viacom channels, you also get nothing.  Just blank space with "to be announced" for programming info.
From what I understand, Verizon needs to tell Tribune that their channel lineup has changed.  And Tribune, Zap2it and Tivo all claim that Verizon hasn't done that.  Verizon, of course, is silent on the matter and the "fiber solutions center" says there is nothing they can do right now and that channel info for the .tv and Verizon channels might get added to online guides in a few MONTHS!?!?!?!?!?!?
Why does this seem to be a problem with Verizon's lineup and no one else's?  When I had Dish, Zap2it would have updated listings within 2 hours of new channel additions.  When I had Charter, both Zap2it and Tivo had channel guide info for new channels usually the day BEFORE the channel was added.  But Verizon doesn't seem to provide Tribune with new channel info / guide data at all.
Having had FIOS for less than two months, I'm not happy.  I'm almost certain the goal is for Verizon to get me to dump my lifetime Tivo service and instead pay them $15.99 for their DVR.  But trust me -- I'd rather go back to Charter first.
Message Edited by skierrob2 on 06-24-2009 10:44 AM

I do not understand why you folks are blaming Verizon for this. Please give me a moment to explain my theory.
First of all, I have been for a long time a very dissatisfied user of the FiOS Guide data. So dissatisfied that late last year I sent an email to Verizon's CEO expressing my dissatisfaction, and providing examples and pointers to various forum threads discussing the problem. I received maybe 4 or 5 phone calls about the issue, no resolution, but I was told the procedure for the FiOS Guide was this:
Each channel (say ESPN, whatever) develops the data, and sends it to FYI Television of Grand Prairie, TX (in the DFW area). FYI gathers the schedule info from all of the channel providers and once a day sends that data to Verizon. Verizon then inputs the data to the Guide and bingo, we see it, good or bad (lots and lots of bad IMO). I have no way to know if this is really the process, but this is the way it was explained and it makes sense to me.
Now, lets talk about one of the other guide providers for the Tivo or whatever. It seems to me that a very similar process would have to take place: channel to guide data collector to actual guide data provider (maybe the last two are one and the same?).
Now, where would Verizon be in this process for the other guide data providers? Seems to me nowhere, it should be the responsibility of the channel to notify the data provider that the channel is now on FiOS, what the channel name and number is, etc.
I am sure you will disagree with me, but where am I wrong? It seems to me you should be complaining to the channel providers, not Verizon.
