Bt openzone help

Hi, my macbook and iphone 4s are constantly trying to connect to bt openzones (and in doing so are interferring with my home wifi connection). I've tried 'forget network' on the iphone and making sure my home wifi hub is at the top in the network preferences on my macbook. Nothing works. Please help!

I'm not ready to give up just yet. Open the Network preference pane. Select your Wi-Fi in the sidebar on the left and click the Advanced button. In the resulting window make sure "Remember networks this computer has joined" is checked.
A question...what is happening that indicates to you that bt is "interfering" with your Wi-Fi?

Have you had a look at this link here it explains how to connect to a hotspot.
It sounds like you are connected to your own homehub and not FON

  • BTTB Option 3 and Openzone access

i've had bttb option3 for 6 months but am a relative beginner and for the first time tried to access bt openzone free minutes on my laptop at a starbucks yesterday (ok - i don't get out much). i understodd it was a case of simply using my bttb email address and password and hey presto. but openzone did not recognise it and the bt totalbroadband radio button took me to bt fon landing page and i have not registered for bt fon so that did not work. i thought bt fon access was not needed to use the bt openzone facility - what am i doing wrong? thanks for any advise as i am sure this has been covered before.

I would contact 08000223322 and speak to Openzone help it could be for some reason you are not opted in, they should get it sorted within minutes, they did for me

  • Unable to override BT Openzone on safari - it has overwritten my default homepage and is stopping me from searching any other page/site.  Help!

How do I get rid of BT Openzone (my internet service provider) overriding my default homepage (apple.com) and preventing me from accessing any other internet sites?  I am unable to access Google or any other search engine.  It seems to have completely hijacked my system.

You can't access any other website, or you can't access any other search engine?

  • Bt openzone/FON connection issue

Ok so I often use this specific btopenzone wifi hotspot, used it for a couple hours every now and again for ages. Hit a problem now though my laptoop no longer connects to it. it sees it i click connect but it just keeps coming up no internet connection. Help/ This is the only wifi thing that it dont connect to.

It could be down to the hub2 (if this is being used) as there is a known issue whereby it caches ALL passing wireless devices which then jams the hub and stops the connection to Fon/Openzone - a reset of the hub is the only known cure, though BT are rolling out an update to sort this out.
The other thing is that occasionally and I don't know why, we lose the ability to connect to random hotspots. Without any changes, the ability returns after a few days. Keep trying the same hotspot or as I said earlier, try another one to see if you also can't connect to this one. What about your own hub's Fon/Openzone hotspot, can you connect to this?

  • How to connect a PS3 to BT Openzone or Bt FON

I thought I would post this information as it has taken me all morning, a lot of phone calls and reading on google to sort this out!!
Problem I had:  I want to take my PS3 to my parents house when visiting and they dont have any access to the internet.  I am a total broadband customer and have access to BT FON & Openzone.
I called BT directly and they said they didnt support it so I nearly gave up however I have now found out exactly how to connect!!
Go to Network settings on PS3
Go to  - Internet connection settings
    Choose - Custom
    Choose - Wireless
    Choose - Scan
Pick whichever has highest signal strength - either BT FON or BT Openzone
SSID should come up with BtOpenzone (leave it as it is!)
    WLAN settings - choose none
    IP address - auto
DHCP host - do not set
    DNS - Automatic
    MTU - automatic
Proxy server - do not use
    UPNP - enable
    Press x to save settings
At this point it will test connection and show the IP address has been found but the internet connection failed, this is fine. Come out of settings and go to your internet browser on PS3
Once you launch the browser you get the BT openzone log in page, enter your details if you are a customer or buy the package / whichever is your preference.
Once you have logged in you can then close the browser and launch an online game!
I played Black Ops on BT Openzone at signal strength 100%, it was perfect and I had no problems at all!
    I hope this helps!!!

Hi, BTOPENZONE is my normal wireless network. I only have openzone and pay monthly for it!
Has anyone found a solution to the problem mentioned above with regards to the PS3 not obtaining an IP adrress from the OPENZONE access point? I alled th openzone helpline last night and am no further on today!
    Please can someone help me!!

  • BT Openzone problem in London

    Hi,
I live in London, UK, and have a BT Total Broadband connection, which I just realised came with inclusive BT Openzone minutes. I rand BT Openzone and they immediately set up an account for me with username and password, and told me to go to a hotspot with my MacBook and just log in. I have gone to a Starbucks in Central London and started up my laptop and immediately airport picks up the signal from the network called 'tmobile'. So far so good. The problem is what to do next: they told me that just by launching Safari, I would be automatically directed to a page where I would be able to enter my username and password. Well, that doesn't happen. I do get a really strong signal from the network, but the browser keeps trying to contact my homepage, instead of showing the login page for the network.
I have tried several times, but to no avail. The browser keeps trying to access www.bbcnews.com and won't show the login page that should pop up automatically.
Can anyone help? It's really frustrating...
    Thanks in advance
    Jess (London)

I (obviously) didn't realise that they collaborated!
Did you check for proxies in the Network preference pane? If you have any they might interfere with the redirect [to the billing / sign-in page] that should happen when you try to browse to a website.
You might find that the most straightforward thing is to create a new location with the default settings next time you have a go...
I have never had any problems using any wireless LAN with my PowerBook G4 - including t-mobile (in the USA).

  • BT Openzone showing from my Home Hub

My PC is picking up 3 services apparently coming from my router:
    My BB service
My BT Fon service - I undertand this
    A BT Openzone service - I don't understand this.
I'm sure they're all from my router as the signal strength is precisely the same. Can anyone enlighten me?
Why is a BT OpenZone service apprently coming from my Home Hub 3?
    Thanks
    Paul

The total bandwidth for "guest" users is resricted to 500kb. Openzone has been using the home hubs for a few years now, BTFON is a fairly recent addition to fit in with the international Fonera network http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FON
I think you may find that BTFON users simply end up on the BT Openzone platform.

  • BT Openzone in Germany

Found by accident yesterday when my iPhone connected to the WiFi in Starbucks in Hamburg. When checking the SSID I found it was BT Openzone and when trying the connection App with my standard login details.... It worked!
Currently enjoying free WiFi with my Cappuccino :-)

That's handy to know, especially if it applies to Starbuck's generally. Wish I'd known the other day when stuck at Hamburg station for 3+hrs waiting for the very late Berlin>Copenhagen train. Not sure whether a Starbuck coffee would have made me feel any better though.

  • Openzone/Fon doesn't work

I Have just written to customer care, and will cut and paste here to see if anyone can help.
I have enabled BT FOn on my homehib on my pitiful 1,5mb connection in the hope of using openzone and Fon networks when i'm out and about.
In fact this is one of the reasons i was stupid enough to sign up to a 18month contract.
I have the Android app on my smartphone, and it connects about 50% of the time while i'm out and about.
The real issue though is the fact that neither Openzone or Fon work on my laptops. It appears to be fundamentally flawed.
On the Dell inspiron, i can connect to Openzone about one in a hundred goes.
On my Acer, i can't connect AT ALL.
Have tried internet explorer, Chrome and Firefox, on both machines.
I have tried setting the connection to both public and home.
I have tried putting the openzone website in the browser bar, but nothing works.
I'm more than happy to upload both machines attempting to connnect on YouTube if you wish.
The problem is that when you "connect" to the openzone or fon connection, it does connect, then says "no internet connection" and the browser bar just shows a DNS error.
What is the point in having a btopenzone internet connection, with no internet connection.
Please for the sake of my sanity explain how i go about getting the service (that i'm payng for) working.

The wifi advertising hype is fair enough if you are away from home with access to a known hotspot, but it's a pretty unreliable service if you want internet access on the fly. 3G, either on a mobile phone or through a dongle, is a far better option but potentially expensive.
Having said that, if you're a BT BB customer you should be able to connect readily to a working BT hotspot. Can you specify any that are problematic? Bear in mind that the "millions" of BT home user hotspots are useless if the user has the hub switched off, has it sited in an outside toilet with walls 2ft thick, is using a non-BT router, is using up the bandwidth themselves, or has forgotten to pay their BT bill. On the other hand, I find commercial BT WiFi points (mainly Starbucks or wifi-enabled phone boxes) to be very reliable. You don't need to be a BT BB customer to access Starbucks though, so I guess that just leaves the phone boxes!
Personally, I would say that wifi access on the move is no more than a small bonus for BT BB customers; I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to regard it as a major reason to choose BT.

  • Bt Wifi/Fon/Openzone/Roaming clarification

    Hi All,
I just recently got Infinity 2 and HH3 and I want to clarify how the free Bt Wifi works that I get as part of my subscription.
Ther terminology and wording seems a bit different in various places so I wanted to check if someone here can give an official answer.
I undertsand there are 3 types of BT Wifi points:
    1) HomeHubs sharing as FON
    2) "proper" hotspots in some commercial properties (BTOpenzone)
    3) Roaming Wifi partners/companies. (UK ones and abroad?)
I am only interested in using 2) & 3)  Can I turn off the Fon on my HH and achieve that without paying any more money?
Also my HH seems to be transmitting 2 seperate SSIDs "BTWifi" and "BTWifi-with-Fon".  What sort of people can connect to these and why is there 2?
Finally, assuming I can still keep wifi and turn off FON, what is the easiest way to connect to roaming hotspots (probably in EU) form other companies?  Using the BT app for your smart phone?  I guess if I connect to an BT prefixed SSID once and save details that is fine for all other UK based spots with same SSID, but I guess foreign partners will have different SSIDs?

There is an allowable cheat if you want to use the free service but don't want others using your broadband via BT-Fon.  You can replace the HomeHub with a different router that does not support BT-Fon.  Always strikes me as slightly anti-social, but ...
I doubt anyone has ever used my Broadband via Fon other than me in a test.  I've certainly never seen any impact.  I have heard that the download a BT-Fon user can use is quite limited, but that in theory they can use lots of upload.
using another router to receive your broadband is not a cheat just in many cases including my own a better way to improve my connection and maintain a stable line.  I get the benefit of BTWIFI when out and about but I do not benfit like many that use there own BTWIFI connection if they are about to exceed their usage limit
Both are acceptable and are not a cheat
you cannot connect to openzone when outside the UK with your free BTFON

  • BT Home Hub 2-287C and BT Openzone/BT Fon

    This is my first  posting.
My home hub has recently been intermittently "taken over" by BT Openzone.
I have followed  instructions from the Openzone homepage, later from BT Broadband Desktop Help, and later BT Broadband telephone help line. They all help temporarily, then I get "taken over" again.
Can anyone help me get rid of this nuisance? I use an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop running Vista Home Premium.

You say that opt out can take a while - that gives me some hope, albeit I never opted in in the first place!
I get the feeling I am connecting to a neighbour's Fon because sometimes there is a "battle" where it seems it could go either way.
I have repeatedly given my hub priority in wireless settings and/or removed Openzone and Fon, but sometimes they reappear before I've even left that window.
When I do land on Fon, it is only when I go to IE from the ikons. It never happens while I am online via my usual homepage (BT Yahoo).
Any further thoughts would be welcome.

  • BT FON / BT Openzone

I apologise if this has been posted previously but I have just signed up to BTFON via my home hub and am now trying to access it via my iphone.  I have located the webpage and have been given three choices for customer login being BT Total Broiadband, BT Openzone and BTFON.  WI have highlighted and then entered my username and password for BT Openzone but it does not seem to do anything.  When I attemot it when highlighting BTFON it says that the E-mail or passwrod are invalid.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Lets not muck about with it then:  make sure that your i phone functionality has not saved any passwords, delete any connectivity to BT OZ/ Fon saved on your i phone.  I would suggest you then un-subscribe from Fon, reset your hub, wait 24 hours, then try and connect again, making sure that you try to sign in only as a BTBB customer using your primary BT username and password.
BT Fon members dont have to sign into a Fon connection: your membership is detected and Fon shows as an available network.  Indeed your own Hub should show two options available wi fi connectivity, your secure connection, and a BTOZ (which is actually BT Fon) connection. You might like to check that you have two available means of connecting to your hub (ie, your secire connection and Fon "BTOZ" connection) before you perform any of the above.
A note for the forum mods please on this post:-
HTC windows/amdroid users generally seem to be ok with connectivity to BTOZ/Fon.  There has been a persistent issue with i phone users on this matter.  Although BT dont support the i phone as such, they might consider a connectivity help item, for the i phone on apple UK  help pages, as clearly many UK users will be/are seeking to connect via their BTBB entitlement to BTOZ / Fon.  Would suggest a note to the apple about this for the different i phone models connecting to over 1 million wi fi hotspots in the UK and the further millions that seemingly exist worldwide.

  • BT Openzone connection to Samsung TV

Hi Keith. Sorry but not in aggrement. A cloud is nothing more than a server on the earth someware. BT Openzone and BT Fon should open a browser to allow entry of users details to log on. This seems to be the problem, not some virtual server!
There has been a similar thread on this already, and the TV tries to establish a connection with a remote server, if that fails, you get no browser.
There is no Internet connectivity on Openzone, untill you get past the login screen.

Thanks for the number - i spoke to them and sorted it out.  To clarify for others who may be having the problem...
Business customers can use BT Openzone/BT FON if you speak to them on the number above and receive your voucher for it.
However, the iPhone app will not work for you (it will only accept an @btinternet.com login) - you must log in to OZ using the credentials they send you.  (although the guy I spoke did say an OZ app was in the works which would take all OZ logins).
    Thanks for the help!
