BT Parental Controls window won't go away

Hi there,
I use BT Internet and am on wifi. Today I switched on my PC and every time I open a webpage in Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, I get a little window from BTInternet asking me if I want to activate Parental Controls. I click "No" and it takes me to a page, saying "You have chosen not to enable parental controls." All fine and dandy. So I click "Close" on that page and it tries to do something, then just times out. I usually use Chrome but I tried it on Internet Explorer as well, where it closes instead of timing out.
HOWEVER
It doesn't seem to be registering that I DON'T want to use parental controls because the message appears on every online shopping website I try to visit, and because it's there, I can't browse any of the pages.
The other PC connected to the router via ethernet is not having this problem.
I've tried clearing cache and cookies and using a different browser (Internet Explorer) but this doesn't work.
Can anyone please help me?
This is what I'm seeing.

Hi laalaa,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting!
Sorry for the problems you're having.  There was an issue with parental controls but everything should be sorted now.  Can you post back to let me know please?  If you're still having problems I'll give you a hand from here if needs be.
All the best,
Robbie

  • Parental controls panel won't load

Did a clean install on my MBP i7 of Mavericks.
Pointed our daughter's HOME directory back to the original directory on the original disk.  My directory is clean and new.
However, now when she tries to run MS Word, it bounces a few times then stops.  Little or no info in CONSOLE.
Went to Parental Controls from my acct, but when I select her Acct, it comes up with a message: "There was an error in the Parental Controls preference pane" OK.
Now, the funny part is that I enabled remote settings of Parental controls.  If I select this machine and her acct from my MBA - it loads just fine.
I fixed this problem before by removing the Parental restrictions on her account then copying the restrictions back from the MBA.  This worked for a while, then failed again today.  Looking for a more permanent fix.  Seems like it could be a problem with Mavericks itself?

As far as I can tell, 10.6 has stuffed up Parental Control. The only thing that appears to work is the 15 min warning that the time allocation is about to expire. 15 minutes later they don't get logged out. Have two girls with identical settings. One can access their webmail, the other one can't, there are random messages about people being able to login at all, or not, don't appear to be any logs to read, can't seem to add programs that are permissible. Used to work before I upgraded the OS. Apple don't appear interested at all.

  • POP UP WINDOW won't go away!

Using Internet Explorer.  Small window pops up in the middle of the screen and it says Adobe Flash Player Setting
cc1.midasplayer.com is requesting permission to store information on your computer.
    Requested up to 10 kb
    Currently used 8kb
    Allow         Deny
I click deny as I do not know what this is.  Sometimes the window will close but most of the time it does not.  Since it won't cloce I can no longer use the web page that I was originally on.  I close out and start all over.  The same thing happens.  What is this and how can I get rid of it????  Thank you

Applications that run in Adobe Flash Player may want to store some information on your computer, but the amount they can store is limited to 100 kilobytes unless you agree to allocate additional space. Local storage settings let you specify how much disk space, if any, applications from a particular website can use to store information on your computer. Note that it is the person or company that has created the application you are using that is requesting such access, not Adobe (unless Adobe has created the application that wants to save the information). In the dialog box shown above, [website] represents the name of the person or company requesting access. It is the responsibility of the person or company requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information they save. You should be aware of the privacy policy of anyone who is requesting access to your computer. For example, see Adobe's privacy policy. Contact the website requesting access for information on their privacy policy.
It's important to understand that even though this settings panel is part of Flash Player, the information will be used by an application created by a third party. Adobe assumes no responsibility for third-party privacy policies, actions of third-party companies in storing information on your computer, or such companies' use of such data or information.
What kind of data can an application that runs in Flash Player store on my computer?
The kind of information stored depends on the application. Information can be anything from your user name to your current score in an interactive game to a list of stocks in your portfolio. The application should make it clear what kind of information it wants to store.
Who has access to the information?
This information may be accessed by an application that is currently running in Flash Player or by another application that runs in Flash Player on the same website. Adobe does not have access to this information (unless Adobe has created the application that wants to save the information).
As discussed in What are local storage settings? above, it is the responsibility of the website requesting access to make it clear to you why they want access and how they plan to use the information. For example, will it be available only to you, or will it be posted in a public place? Who will have access to it in the future? Will it be deleted after a certain period of time? The privacy policy of anyone who is requesting access should address these sorts of issues.
I've already set privacy and disk space options in my browser. How do these settings interact with my Flash Player settings?
You may be aware that some websites work together with your browser to store small amounts of data, called cookies, on your computer for their own use in the future. For example, when you go to a website regularly, it may welcome you by name; your name is probably stored in a cookie, and you can use browser options to determine whether you want cookies or not. You may also have specified in your browser that pages you visit can take up only a certain amount of disk space.
When SWF or FLV content is being played, the settings you select for Flash Player are used in place of options you may have set in your browser. That is, even if you have specified in your browser settings that you do not want cookies placed on your computer, you may be asked if an application that runs in Flash Player can store information. This happens because the information stored by Flash Player is not the same as a cookie; it is used only by the application that runs in Flash Player, and has no relation to any other Internet privacy or security settings you may have set in your browser.
Similarly, the amount of disk space you let the  application that runs in Flash Player use has no relation to the amount of disk space you have allotted for stored pages in your browser. That is, when SWF or FLV content is being played, the amount of disk space you allow here is in addition to any space your browser is using for stored pages.
No matter how you may have configured your browser, you still have the option to allow or deny an application that runs in Flash Player permission to store the information, and to specify how much disk space the stored information can occupy, as discussed in the rest of this document.
What are my local storage options?
If you don't want to let applications from this website save any information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, select Never. Note that applications from other websites may later ask to store information on your computer. If you don't want applications from any website that you haven't yet visited to store information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, use the Global Storage Settings panel.
If you want to let applications from this website save information on your computer, but you want to decide on a case-by-case basis for each application, move the slider to the far left (None). Each time an application from this website wants to save information on your computer, you will see a question asking for more disk space.
If you want to let applications from this website save as much information on your computer as they need to, move the slider to the far right (Unlimited).
If you want to let applications from this website save information on your computer, but want to limit the amount of disk space they can use, move the slider to select 10 KB, 100 KB, 1 MB, or 10 MB. If an application needs more space than you have allotted, you will see a question asking for more disk space while the application is running.
If an application from this website has already saved some information on your computer and you select a value that is lower than the amount of information already stored, Flash Player informs you that any information that has already been saved will be deleted.
If you don't want existing information to be deleted, click Cancel to return to the Local Storage Settings panel, and then select a higher value. Otherwise, click OK to delete the information and return to the application.
How can I change my local storage settings?
You may want to change your local storage settings if, for example, you want to allot more space for information from this website. To display the Local Storage Settings panel:
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the application image while it is running.
From the context menu, select Settings, and then click the Local Storage tab.

  • Conflict Resolver Pop-up Window Won't Go Away

Since recent update of Snow Leopard, I have been unable to resolve between 8 and 10 (the count changes) calendar conflicts between iCal and Entourage 2008. The notifications are apparently generated by MobileMe though I do not subscribe to the service.
Entourage groups my sync services as calendar/Mobile Me and contacts/Mobile Me and there does not appear to be an obvious way to unlink the two. Nor can I access any preferences in MobileMe without ostensibly signing up for an account. And I am stuck with pushing data from Entourage to iCal and address book so I can sync my iPhone.
No matter how many times I go through the exercise of "resolving conflicts and re-syncing" via the pop-up, the window reappears on top of any program in current use. Even "x-ing" out the window is only a max 5 min fix before the window reappears. I was using the same settings in Entourage prior to the new OS 10 update so I think this is just a VERY annoying bug. Advice please? Apple, please fix asap!!

I am having the exact same problem. I just, finally, installed SL today, and updated everything, including the 800+ mg security update to SL. I use Entourage and an iPhone. Prior to this installation I had no trouble syncing my Entourage cal with my iPhone cal (via iCal, of course, but I never use it separately). I got a Sync Conflict box with about 12 errors. There had been some odd changes in the times of the events, but as they had all occurred in the past I didn't care that much. I went through choosing the best version (sometimes between just Entourage and iCal, sometimes with the iPhone tossed in the mix), thinking it was done. But I've been repeatedly asked to review the same events more than four times in the past half an hour. It would appear that this is a bug of some kind. As I'm new to SL I don't know if it is from the update or the original disk, but I'd like it to go away. Please help.

  • ITunes song pop-up window won't go away.

When I click a song and play it on iTunes 8, a gray window pops up that tells the song name, artist, album, duration, and rating (plus a square where the album artwork would be).
For the past few days, it has popped up without going away like it usually does. I can choose another song (which makes the window just name the new song), but it doesn't go away entirely and just "sits" there.
The only way I've been able to get rid of it is to restart the computer. Is there an easier way? Thanks!

The gray window you describe doesn't sound like something native to iTunes but one of the features from Synergy. Are you using Synergy? It is a menubar controller and one of the features is a floating gray box that appears at the beginning of a song that contains the information you identify and then fades away until the next song.

  • Registration PopUp Window Won't Go Away

I got no help with this calling support, and no help doing the 'Chat Live', so hopefully there's ppl here who might be able to help.
I have Photoshop CS2 v9 for Windows.  It used to be on a Windows XP computer, but that computer died a few months ago.  I now have a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.
I installed my Photoshop CS2 v9 on the new computer, and the registration window popped up.  I click 'don't register' because I had already registered it on my old computer.  But every time I opened PS, the Registration window opened.  I finally just decided I would go ahead and go through the registration process again just to get rid of the window.
Now, every time I open PS, I am still getting the 'Register' window.  I chatted with an online support person who referred me to tech support.  I called tech support and they were no help either.  Tech support said it's not an activate or re-activate situation because the software works fine.
The online chat guy said there was a file somewhere on the computer I could open in a text editor and change regisration to "never" and it would stop.  But my computer has no such file.
Is there any way to make the window quit opening?  The software is registered and needs no further activation, so what is the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi Noel,
    Thanks for the reply.
That did the trick - it's no longer popping up, thanks!
Now I just have to solve the "escape key disabled" issue, that I've been researching on the Adobe Forums.
(when PhotoShop CS2 is running, the escape key is disabled on all other programs.  example: open notepad, choose "file / open" and then if you decide "I'm not going to need notepad after all" you can't hit escape to close the open file dialog - you have to click to close it)
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/372523  - but that's another topic
Regarding this topic, I appreciate the quick response that you have provided - it's been very useful.

  • Why can't I use some form of parental control like IE to make it safe for my Kids?

I am just about to remove Firefox from my pc because I cant figure out how to protect my kids from the crap that is on the web!! I don't want them accidentally getting to an adult site.

Also, for some (somewhat limited) parental controls in Windows XP, see: http://www.ehow.com/how_5928183_set-parental-controls-windows-xp.html
Generally, the products mentioned in cor-el's post are more comprehensive than those provided from within Windows XP.

  • Parental Control Troubleshooting

Not to beat (or revive, as the case may be,) a dead horse, but...
    I have three Leopard computers:
A MacBook Pro (see tag at bottom of post,) which only has one account, so no Fast User Switching, and no parental controls. Dashboard works fine.
An eMac (1.25 GHz USB 2.0 model, 768 MB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, SuperDrive,) with two accounts, plus the Guest account turned on. Fast User Switching is on, and the Guest account has parental controls. Dashboard works fine in all three accounts, no matter what user switching I do.
A 12" PowerBook G4 (867 MHz VGA model, 640 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive, Combo Drive,) with one account, plus the Guest account turned on. Fast User Switching is off, and the Guest account has parental controls. I have Dashboard disabled in the Guest account. Dashboard does not work in the main account, though. (I do have the security on this computer totally locked down. Every single Preference that even hints at "security" is on. Secure VM, FileVault, auto-logout after x minutes, login window requires typing user name and password, the works.) I've tried all the tricks, including turning off Parental Controls. This computer is also on its original software install. Yes, really. It has never been reformatted since I opened the box. It came with Jaguar, and has been upgraded to Panther, then Tiger, and now Leopard. I have deleted user accounts and created new ones, (the current user account is less than a month old;) and have done disk repair and permissions repairs. I know that Dashboard worked in Tiger on a different user account; but I honestly can't recall having tried Dashboard on the current user account in Tiger, much less in Leopard, until today.

  • Downloaded App and It Won't Go Away to Buy Something Else

I downloaded an app from the App Store but now when I go back to the App Store the app window won't go away so that I can search and download something else.

If you can't tap on the store's background to go back to the main part of the store then have you tried closing the App Store app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the App Store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Setting parental controls via profile manager

So I've got Lion Server running on an older mac mini.  I've setup up accounts on the server for my kids.  (they're my guinea pigs!)  We have 2 other macs in the house both running Mavericks.  I'm able to do a networkin login into the kids' accounts from those client machines with no problem.  I'm also storing their home folders on the server and creating "mobile" accounts (I think that's the terminology) on the client machines.  I've installed the Trust certificate from the server onto those client machines.  I've also installed the group certificate on the client machiens.  (most of the profile manager settings I have for the kids are handled in a group called "kids")
Here's the problem:  if I try to enforce parental controls on the kids' accounts (such as limiting the time they can be on them, etc) it doesn't work.  In fact, after the settings get pushed to the client machines, they (the client machines) often will lock-up or start acting really flaky.  A reboot "fixes" that, but the parental controls still won't work.
I've tried this literally dozens of times with the same result.  Other changes in profile manager, such as restricting access to certain apps, DOES seem to work. It's mainly just the settings related to parental controls that seem to be the problem.
Am I doing something wrong?  Is this stuff supposed to work?  Thanks for any help, this is incredibly frustrating!

Unfortunatley I never got this resolved.  In fact, it turns out that this is really a bug in how the parental controls work with a "managed" account.  All of the other settings that can be managed on OSX server seemed to work just fine in my testing, but the parental controls do not.  Or more specifically, the curfew (time limit) settings definitely don't work.  It's hard to believe, but apparently this is a use-case Apple never considered.  (if you do some googling for parental controls and OSX server you'll find we're not alone)
I don't recall exactly, but if you're trying to determine if changes got pushed to the clients there is something in the profile manager (web UI) that shows "completed tasks" or "active tasks" (or something like that) which should show what was pushed and if it was succssfully received by the client.
Anyway, after all that effort I ended up not using the profile management feature in OSX server at all.  My kids accounts are now just plain 'old local accounts.  I came to the conclusion (as many others have) that OSX server, at least in a home setting, just isn't worth the effort.  It's too bad because if it all worked properly it could be really useful.  If you still want to mess around with OSX server you might want to check out some nice youtube videos by a guy named Todd Olthof.  He has a bunch of videos on OSX server that are actually geared completely towards the home user.
    Good luck!
