BT Speedtester results - recent problem

I run BT Speedtester every day (don't ask!) and have noticed a problem which first appeared on 8th July 2011.  About half of the tests now show a measured download speed in excess of the IP Profile, today being the worst example at 1597kbps against a Profile of 1000.  Looking back over many months of tests the line speed has consistently been 90-95% of the IP Profile, until this recent change.
Are there any legit reasons for this happening, or is this a known problem with the software?

The DSL Connection rate shown by Speedtester has always been 1300-1800kbps, with a lower figure for the IP Profile.  If only the IP Profile and consequently download speed would sit consistently in that range I'd be very happy. 
The frustrating thing is that for 6 months to March this year the download speed was steady day in, day out at about 1200kbps.  We're 5km from the exchange in rural Suffolk so anything over 1Mbps is good!  Since March it's oscillated widely, with a record low of 135kbps and a few maxima around 2Mbps, immediately following complaints to BT Broadband but then slowly declining again.
Recent line tests followed by pair swaps MAY have got to the root cause of the problem.  Currently we've had a straight week at just under 1Mbps on the Thinkbroadband speed tester, but now these odd glitches in the BT tester results have appeared.  With BT refusing to look at any speed data other than that produced by their own tester you can sense how unhappy I am with a possible bug in their system!

    First try to resolve #2 by:

    Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

    Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
    iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
    - Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
    If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.

  • Varying speedtest results

    I am trying to figure out why out of my three PC's on my home network, the one running XP, also the oldest, gets the fastest and most consistant speedtest results., usually around 25-27mb.  the other two run Vista 32bit and one gets around 9-15mb consistantly whilst the other one (the newest PC) gets completely unstable speedtests.  By unstable I mean the needle hovers on say 5 or 6mb and then shoots up to a ridiculous speed like 169mb and settles on a result of 20 something.  I am also having big trouble streaming video on this machine, constant buffering and thats with standard resolution.
    They all run Kaspersky 2012, Firefox lastest version with no script.

    Don't worry about the Home Network 100Mbps... That is the Ethernet Port speed you've connected to when wired.
    See my wired 100Mbps pic below..... You could see if it changes if you move to the Gig ethernet port.
    I've never tried that port.
    If your ethernet ports are playing up... say dropping down to 10Mbps causing streaming issues, investigation is underway see the many pages here.-

    I use AVG for my antivirus protection... Free version of course  And have never had any streaming or test result probs.
    I don't know if it would be possible to pause the Kapersky and use AVG then try some streaming just to completely eliminate the possibility Kapersky is interfering with your streaming.
    Perhaps someone else might suggest another way ...... Nige maybe?

    One suggestion worked from the Firefox prints incorrectly link mentioned above by mha007. I'm thrilled since this has been annoying me for weeks. Thanks mha007!
    Reset all Firefox printer settings
    # Open your profile folder:

    What kind of CD are you burning (Audio or MP3)?
    If you're burning an MP3 CD, the songs must already
    be in mp3 format.
    If not, iTunes will tell you that you have no songs

    I was making an audio cd. But I have since found out what the problem was. The files in my PLAYLIST I converted to aiff, since they were SDll files (I thought they were similar to AIFF, and they PLAY on Itunes...just won't burn.) When I selected the songs in the playlist and converted them...I thought all those files were converted, They were not. The converted files went into my LIBRARY, even tho I selected the ones in the playlist...and once I exchanged the SDll versions of the songs in my playlist. THEN they burned fine...but still...it's confusing..you say convert..it says it's been converted..and what they don't say is it's not been converted inside the playlist...where I had selected the songs...It just ADDED aiff versions..but only in the library...Anyway, that's what happened. But it's strange that it PLAYS SDll but won't burn them....and you'd think, logically..the ones you selected would change...but they don't. Playlists are mainly pointers to the actual files I guess...a sort of Alias..
    At least it works now. But it's sad that the latest itunes does more, but also does LESS...as I used to be able to burn SDll files. Now I'll have to convert all my files to AIFF, and mp3's as I assume my ipod video won't play anything but mp3's?

    Got this LG G2 on Black Friday. While the overall performance of the phone is excellent, I am a bit worried with the speedtest results (ookla). I see an average of 2 / <1 Mbps. Also the signal bars are rarely at full strength. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • Recent problems occurring with new iPod Nanos as well?

    Are the recent problems associated with the iPod firmware version 1.2 occurring with brand new Nanos, or are they only occurring with Nanos that were running previous versions that have been updated to the new version? I've been considering buying a Nano, but may reconsider if the problems are happening with new ones as well.

    I bought a 2GB iPod nano over the weekend. It works great, as long as I don't try to put more than 215 songs on it. iTunes crashes and freezes my iPod every time I try to fill it up more than half way. Every crash requires a hard shut down on my mac and restoration of the iPod.

  • Inconsistent Speedtest Results

    I recently noticed slow speeds so I tried two speedtests right after eachother.  The first was on speedtest.net and had this result: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4464458407  The second was on speedtest.comcast.net and had this result: http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/944128404.png Why the huge difference?  My internet speeds on all websites I've checked are consistent with the first, slower test.

    This may now be fixed for you. If you check my thread "How do I report slow download speeds from out-of-area servers?" you'll see that it was spontaneously resolved around midnight mountain time. The problem seems to have been in Denver Comcast's network connection to the outside world. The Comcast network in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona seems to be a common "local" network, and connecting from your home to that network always showed a good speed. That's why http://speedtest.comcast.com gave a good result: because it was local. However, if the data you were trying to download needed to come from outside those three states, it balked. That happened when either you used http://speedtest.comcast.com and pointed it to any server outside those three states (instead of just using the local default), or you used http://speedtest.net instead. I can't tell you whether it was deliberately fixed or whether it just happened because some machine got a scheduled reset at midnight. But it's OK now. Till the next time.

    Good day all. Two problems have just recently messed up iPhoto's works.
    1) I changed my password for my dotMac account and iPhoto just can't seem to get it and as such I cannot access the Gallery through iPhoto.
    2) A book that was successfully published back in September of '10, now is corrupt and crashes the application. Either I need to find the offending folder / .xml / .plist and trash it -or- in some way recover the book.
    Any and all suggestions are welcome... and yeah.. I know.. I will ultimately upgrade, but I am not sure that the new version will remedy the problems.

    Upgrading is not the answer to either question, and frankly I wouldn't consider upgrading until you've dealt with them.

    Delete the entry in your Keychain and try again.

    The only way to recover a corrupted book is to restore from a back up. There is no "offending folder / .xml / .plist". The database is corrupt.
    If you don't have a back up then the book is gone. You can try repair the DB as follows:
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
