BT Sport Library

I am on the £5 essentials vision package with a YouView box. I have BTS through a sky card which works fine.
Should I have access to the vision BT sport library, it's telling me to subscribe to watch this content. Do I need to pay for the top package to view sport library content or is there a fault with the set up?
Many Thanks

Hi RJ414i,
Since you have BT Sport on your Sky box, you'll have access to the catch-up and on demand programmes on the BT Sport app and online player. To get BT Sport catch-up/on demand on your YouView or Vision box, you'd need a BT Sport subscription for BT TV, because BT Sport isn't part of the Vision Essential or Unlimited TV packages.

• Creating Sports Clip Library

I have 10 hours of sports video, shot as 1-4 minute scenes. I would like to create a library of short 5-10 second clips organized by topics (saves, goals, broken plays, etc.) or player names. When I have cataloged the clips, I will then create a series of movies. What is a good mechanism to split the shots into clips, tag each clip for later retrieval and incorporation into movies. For example, I will make a highlight reel for each player.

Also, Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements both include a program called Organizer -- a scaled-down version of Adobe's Bridge program.
This program allows you to tag your photos and video clips with key words or tag them as albums so that you can quickly locate all the files tagged with, say, the name of a player or the date of a game. You can also add 1-to-5 star ratings to your clips so that you can isolate your search and grab only files that are, say, 5-star rated.

• Mirroring sports videos from macbook to TV is bad but good from iPhone????

Hi,
I am living in Sweden and I use viaplay(similar to netflix) a couple of times per week. Unfortunately there is no viaplay app for apple tv.
Anyway, the point being: if I use the viaplay app on my phone, that streams sports events in a great way. However I don't want to use my phone for streaming and I definitely belong to the club of seeing a point with tablets. So, again, I have a macbook air for doing this: how can I stream the video (running on silverlight) without using the horrible airplay mirroring (too choppy, laggy, amateurish) with the same quality as the iphone?

1 - no - if you do not like or use iPhoto then yu have no need for the iPhoto library - it is sefl contained and deleting it will not affect anything except iPhoto
2 - you can export photos form iPhoto to any format drive - it is only the iPhoto library that has drive format restrictions
Reformatting a drive totally erases it so you can not simply change the format of a drive without removing everything on it
3 - deciede what you want  - if you use iPhoto then it has no cross platform capability and nothing you do in iPhoto is directly of use on a PC - you have to export from iPhoto to a volume that a PC can read
Since you do not like or use iPhoto and it will not do what you want I have no idea why you are messing with it at all

• Aperture 3 hanging when working with 120,000 image library

I love Aperture. Have used Aperture since v1, now on 3, Snow Leopard 10.6.6. MacPro 3.0 with 20GB RAM and four 7200 3TB HDrives. Shoot a Nikon D3 and others.
I have a big referenced library running internally on Drive 2, images are internally on drive 4. About 120,000 in total, mostly RAW (NEF).
For some time I have had hangs, spinning ball. Some will clear, but most will not, requiring force quit.
I have repaired permissions, on hard drives as well as in Aperture.
Hangs happen when I click on a Folder, or sometimes when selecting image.
I moved everything to a Referenced system to correct this problem, but seemed to not solve things.
I do also use Aperture to catalog Photoshop files, so dont know whether this creates an increased RAM or CPU issue.
Have sent crash reports to Apple, but not heard back yet.
I shoot professionally, sometimes 2,000 per day, so need this to become more reliable.
Any suggestions.
Many thanks!

Thanks so much for your time.
You're welcome. I appreciate your mentioning it.
I have found leaving the Activity Monitor on, where I watch the RAM / MEM usage, is a clue as to whether its still thinking.
I do the same. In addition to AM, I use +iStat Menus 3+, a nifty system-reporting menulet. Recommended (just a satisfied user).
I also need to tell you I do allow my assistant, using a 27"iMac, to access my MASTER LIBRARY from her computer. (Different Aperture 3 version, and mine is shut down).
Supposedly this is ok (acording to Apple) but I am v suspicious. Sometimes it takes forever to load, and I have seen "strange" things like keywords go missing.
Until you have everything working well ... can you refrain from opening your Library using different program installations? I think you are right to be suspicious. (And trouble-shooting strategy would favor limiting problems and then bringing things back as a way of isolating the cause.)
Please check out my response to the others - I stated library size/capacities.
I don't think Library size is the problem.
I wish I could limit my Projects to 500 Masters, but most of the shoots I do are sports, where I will shoot 1,000 to 3,000 images in a day or two.
However, it can be done if this is the issue.
It could be voodoo, but it has become part of the more-or-less generally accepted best practices. You do know that in addition to selecting multiple Projects in order to see all of their images in the Viewer, you can also put Projects in a Folder and just select the Folder. Selecting a Folder in the Library Inspector will show the contents of all Projects and Albums "held" by that Folder. You might -- as an example -- make a Folder for a game, and then put each quarters' shots in its own Project.
I run dual monitors. HOWEVER, I am suspicious of my NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT card. 512 VRAM, 1920x1200 dual outputs. Not sure if this is my problem.
However, I can run Photoshop 5, DW5, InDesign, etc, along with the normal appls, with no problem. Sometimes I have 15-20 PSD files open, and I never use all my RAM.
I run huge Library on a machine w. 4 GB RAM. I don't think your RAM is the source of your problems.
I can't with any expertise address the issue of the video card. My hunch is that this is one of the rough edges of heavy Aperture use, but it's just a hunch.
Rejected/Trash. I find it takes forever to empty Aperture Trash. Have you found that> Did you know you have to empty twice, from Ap AND from OS10.6?
IME, it gets better if you do it often (all the way to system Trash). I have in past had to wait hours for the Aperture Trash to empty. Haven't seen that is a while, though.
Im going to try and move the MAIN LIBRARY to another, newer, drive. See if this works.
One of the biggest advantages will be the defragmentation of the hundreds of thousands of Library files.
I have wondered whether I should invest in a Solid State Internal drive.
Thoughts on that?
Go for it. I will buy one the day I can afford one. I am sure it is the very best performance investment you can make for Aperture.
Cheers. Post when you've found something out.

• Big Library:Slow Performance?

I have about 10,000 photos (.jpg ~3MB each) in my Aperture Library. I want to add many more photos but I'm worried about slow performance. My questions:
1. How big is your library or how big do you think the libraries can get?
2. Have you noticed slower performance with larger libraries?
3. Any opinion on breaking up into multiple smaller libraries vs. 1 larger library?

I am running two libraries,
one for all of my work related imagery, 15,000+ images 50/50 raw & jpegs and
the other for all of my stuff I shoot of sporting clubs, the bit I give back to the community, 18,000+ predominantly jpeg's
both run smoothly, one on the MacPro and the other on the G4 laptop.
Issue starts to be the backing up, if you are thinking it will get BIG, try a library for each client. Could be a good selling point as well, "your imagery is isolated from other clients and has its own dedicated backup".

• Aperture 3: Library Management

I am sorry to ask such a simplistic question, but I am not sure how to do this and did not see a post on the question.
I have my main aperture 3 library. I am going to break the library up to speed performance and make the library smaller (Around 60 GB). I am going to break the library up into things such as Sports, Family, School, etc.
Here is my problem. I export a folder into a new library "school". I do not consolidate files. The new library is created and the file structure is in the new library. The file structure still exists in the old library. I delete the folder structure in the old library and move it to the trash. When I empty the trash all the master files are gone.
How is this done without deleting files?
Thanks

Here is what I did, as i wanted to "break up" my libraries the same way. Its taking me all weekend but I am getting it done and I am having good luck, knock on wood.
1. I created a new Aperture 3 Library called Sports
2. In finder I right clicked on the Aperture 2 library and selected "Showed package contents"
3. I created the folders in the new Aperture 3 library to equal the stuff I wanted imported. I did not recreate the projects.
4. I dragged and dropped the Aperture 2 project from the finder in the New Aperture 3 library.
5. Waited until it was done.
This did two things for me, it kept my Aperture 2 library intact, and allowed me a clean start.
This also works for dragging and dropping Lightroom2 folders.
So far so good.

Hi, I am Zander Smith and I want to share my story with you. I am a sport star in my community, I am known for my football skills. I had a very healthy physique because I used to do almost 4 hours of daily workout. One day it was raining heavily and I was busy playing football with a nearly club who challenged our team. While playing I hit my leg on the goal post and broke my leg. I came out of hospital after three months. Since I was on complete bed rest I gained 35 pound. I had lost my athletic shape. I was very upset with my bulky body and I wanted to have my old shape back at any cost.
I started to work out. As I was restricted by doctor to do rigorous work out, it did not help me the way I wanted. After a month one of my friends suggested me [Acai berry|http://ezinearticles.com/?Acai-Berry---How-I-Lost-30-Pounds-in-Under-30-Days-Using-The-Acai-Berry&id=1998407] . I thought that my workouts are enough for losing my weight, but I was impatient. I took all the information about this product and I found it useful. I purchased Acai Berry Supplement and used it. Now it is like a dream come true, I have come back to my earlier shape. Thanks to Acai Berry now I am living my life as I lived before. • Sports Photographers and Aperture

I was wondering if there are any sports photographers out there that use strictly use Aperture for their post processing. I am considering a Photo Mechanic/ Photoshop workflow perhaps in addition to Aperture. Anyone have any thoughts or pros and cons in reference to modifying my process?
Thanks in advance!

I shoot predominantly sports and use a PhotoMechanic/Aperture workflow from location on a macbook pro or at home with a Mac Pro. A typical workflow:
1. Ingest with PM (I tend to shoot JPG unless big time event or uncertain light)
2. Select pics to file with tagging and create new temp directory for just the keepers
3. Caption and rename the keepers
4. Upload the temp keeper directory into Aperture and make minor adjustments as necessary (typically horizon line and cropping)
5. Save the files into a temp upload directory at a compression setting to get size down to 2MB or less (usually PS 8)
6. FTP the upload directory to the wire service site
Given that I do very limited editing, I find Aperture the most efficient tool. It also then creates an auto-archive of the keepers. At a later time, I may review the rest of the ingest pics for anything I may want to keep for stock. If editing on a Macbook Pro, I'll export the project to a portable hard drive and later upload it to my master Aperture Library on the Mac Pro at home (which, in turn, has on online vault and off-line vault) and burn the project backups periodically to DVD. No chance for lost images with several redundancies.
I'd be curious to hear other experiences / workflow tweaks.

• Library Preview Rendering Slow

I'm sure I'm missing something here and am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I just purchased lightroom 2.3 primarily as a workflow tool for the RAW photos I take at sports events. The first step in my process is to review all the photos and remove the ones with poor composition and ones that are out of focus so that I don't spend time cleaning them up before I do any cropping.
My problem is that the rendering of the preview thumbnails seems to take an inordinate amount of time before I can see the thumbnail in enough quality to make a decision on the focus quality. I opted to invest the time up front and generate 1:1 previews during the import process. I've got the thumbnails sized to display two thumbnails with the sidepanels hidden to use as much realestate as possible. However, when I move from thumbnail row to thumbnail row, at least one of the thumbnails is initially displayed in a blurry format and takes approximately 2 - 4 seconds to display in it's final state.
Considering I have 353 photos to review, I'm looking at sitting 17 minutes total just waiting on the final rendering of thumbnails to decide on whether they're in focus or not. This just doesn't seem right if I selected to pre-generate 1:1 previews. So I've got to have something set wrong somewhere. Any ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated!
Dale

Thanks all for your thoughts and ideas. It looks like I'll just have to live with the multiple pass slow rendering in Lightroom if I want to continue to use it. I ran a test with the same batch of photos in Capture One LE, the product I intended to replace with Lightroom. Once the folder and photos were imported into Capture One and thumbs rendered for the first time, moving from one large size representation of a photo to the next (there's no "library" module, it looks more like the LR Develop module and all work is done from there) took significantly less time than in Lightroom (less than 1 second).
Some other notes from the comments above:
- yes, I was using very large thumbnails to scan through the 300+ photos and filter out the bad ones and yes it requires me to do a lot more scrolling. Annoying, but necessary for me. One of the more difficult things for me to do is determine if a shot was in focus or not. This decision requires a large thumbnail for my old eyes ;-)
- I have 100Gb free on my catalog drive and 200Gb free on my data drive. I can't imagine Lightroom would require any more to render thumbnails and display photos in the develop module more quickly.
Thanks again everyone!

• Need help, duplicate "false" images in my Aperture library

http://www.pbase.com/image/120194191/original.jpg
*The blank spots you see are just me masking photos that may not be work safe so disregard those.
The issue I am having is the blue circled stacks and the 2 green circles stacks, if I select (single click) the blue one the green also become selected, if I try an select either of the green ones the blue one gets selected, if I move the blue on around the page they all move but in random places usually a couple rows apart.
Everything was fine with these images as I tested and practiced with Aperture for the fist week or so.
Last night I referenced my 2009 motor sports season to its own project (54,000 images) and it imported the locations and was building previews fine.
So as its building the previews for the motor sports project I decided to combine 2 other projects into one... that is the one you see here with the strange triple image copies.
The images have only been imported once and open, export and edit fine.. I just cant seem to get rid of the fake or false copies in the green circles.... any ideas?

I do need to come with system, all this is testing and getting familiar with Aperture prior to making to a permanent part of my work flow.... I have everything backed up at work and even a bootable copy of this home system ready to go if I cant repair the damage I have done (I will only loose a few hours of edits/version I like better with Aperture vs. my old way...I hope I dont, but not the end of the world )
The 50,000 motor sports images are JPG's and are referenced to an external firewire 800 drive... 2009 track work is the project the main folder BeaveRun 2009 with 23 separate event folders in that
(screen shot jpg)
http://www.pbase.com/image/120197387/original.jpg
Everything else is imported and stored in my library and was done a week prior to my issue and has worked great.
The triple strange stack copies are not "real" if I click to highlight one they all light up as selected, but the readout at the very bottom of the Aperture page correctly displays "1 selected-166 images displayed" even though you can see all 3 are highlighted with the white outline .
(screen shot jpg)
http://www.pbase.com/image/120194191/original.jpg
several of my shots now have false copies (cant be selected or moved individually, they just float around randomly somewhere near the real ones) its just the one project I moved images into got messed up my be because Aperture was still rendering preview of my 2009 Track project? Anyway because they are not real and cant be selected individually I cant delete them or anything without also affecting the real ones

• How do i extend time frames in the sports storyboard

i have added clips to the sports storyboard but the last clip i want to extend from the stated 1.8 seconds to 34 seconds. can this be done?

Are you taliking about a sports Trailer?
If so, you can select your trailer in the Project Library View. Then FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT in the top menu.
Then you can edit it like any other iMovie project without the contraints of a trailer.

• Missing items in Encore Library

I believe I missing a lot add-ons from my Library in Encore.  It has been awhile but I upgrade from CS5 to CS6.  I was about to do a Tutorial for Encore and notice I had nothing in my Library.  I did the Library, title templates, and template projects missing: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Encore download.
I guess I only needed Encore.  I did get some items back in the library but I think I am missing some.  For example I only have eleven items in the General  menu’s in the Library and  I only have two items in Sports which is Golf is this correct?  I do not want to go through each tab but  dose anyone know the told number of items in the Library?  This is what I have for menu’s.  Corporate: 6  Menu’s    Education: 4  Entertainment: 4 , General: 11, Government :2  Sports:2  Technology: 4  Travel: 10  Wedding: 10 items.
In the tutorial for example on Lynda.com the author has a 10 point star in his Library which I do not, also for fonts he 36 pt Aqua  and others that I do have.  I believe I had these before. It seems that I missing a lot of fonts styles also etc.  Need help.
Thanks

Ann's link is to install the "functional content" for Premiere Pro and Encore. This includes templates and styles in addition to the Encore "library." To get the templates (I think this includes Flash export templates), you must install this. However, this installs only a limited library of full templates - no buttons etc.
I think the OP had already downloaded and installed this.
John's link is the latest version of the full Encore library. An earlier version (but probably identical in content) is at the bottom of the link Ann provided. I think they improved the file size at some point.
Getting the filename the OP downloaded would help.

• Dividing Aperture Library

I take photos for family and for my kids school sports.  There was a time when it was easy to scroll through the library and find images, but in the last few years I've taken thousands of photos at sports events (football - 1000 per game, basketball - about 750 per game, swimming - about 500 per event) and it's forever going through the library trying to find anything.
I thought about individual libraries for family and sports, and even indiidual for each sport, but I'm not that good an organizer.
Is there a way to hide images in a library so say I could just look at non sports or just sports?
Does someone have a solution that works for them to divide or oprganize their library (ies)?
Thanks in advance.

What is your Aperture version?
In Aperture 3.4.3 I use folders a lot, to group projects into sections (Family, Travel, Wildlife, Architecture). All folders have disclosure triangles in the Library Inspector; so it is easy to collaps large sections of the library. Also can the folders restrict searches to a subset of albums and projects. The smart albums will be computed much faster, if they are defined inside a folder with only a few projects.
I keep the projects small, and try to weed out the images early.
In Aperture 3.4 you can mark projects and other library items as favorites; and if you set the inspector to show only favarites, you can concentrate on a subset of the projects, for example "sports", if you set your sports projects as favorites.
Regards
Léonie

• Best way to manage Aperture library size for hard drive space?

For a couple years, I have been using Aperture 2 and then migrated to Aperture 3. All this time I have worked completely on my laptops internal hard drive and with one library. My library is now 80gb and hard drive space is becoming an issue. Now I am trying to decide the best direction to take for reducing my internal hard drive space. My biggest storage culprit are my kids sports team pictures. I have taken thousands and thousands of pictures of kids that I don't need to keep in my internal library. I would like to pull my kids out of those pics, keep them in my main library and archive the rest out. I'm looking for advice for the best process.
I put an external drive on my Airport USB drive and put my library in a new vault last night. I know it is much slower than going direct to USB on computer. With wireless N it took about 12 hours to backup the 80gb library to a new vault on this Airport drive. Are there any issues with using the Airport USB other than speed? I know apple has issues with using time machine on this kind of setup but I don't know if Aperture has any of the same issues. My thought is that I might use this drive for additional libraries as well.
Thanks
-Erik

Once I move files to external storage as a "referenced master", is there a way to move some of them back to main library on the internal drive? I'm going to move all my team sports pictures to external but would like to keep the pictures with my kids on the internal drive where they are at. But if I unintentionally move some of my kids to the external drive, how do I "un-reference" them and move them back?
Thanks for the help!
