Hi! Re the above, after having charged the unit and connecting same to the phone line , we find that the display reads "SEARCHING", and there in no dial tone on the hand set. I rechecked whether the phone line was working- it was. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Freetalk Adapter + BT Studio Plus

My Freetalk adapter just arrived, but it won't identify my phone - a BT Studio Plus 5500 setup. I've double checked the guide, restarted it, switched the cables around just in case, but it can never connect to it.
The FAQ just tells me to read the guide again :/

Odd message about missing file when opening Logic

Hi there
I've just done a fresh de novo install of Logic Studio 8 on my imac. When I open Logic Pro and select a new guitar tones project, before it opens I get a message in a new browser
"please locate missing 2.8sSpring_reverb.sdir" and at the bottom of the browser "audio file selected".
I don't know where this file is, if I click cancel I get a similar one for a plate reverb and then it opens.
Is there a way to rectify this? OSX 10.4.11 and a full install of all of Logic Studio plus main updates.

AVI Files over 00:01:30 are truncated.

I'm trying to import some converted GoPro AVI files that come in at about 00:08:52 each. When I import them Premiere truncates the files at about 1 minute 30 seconds.
No where can I find the max supported AVI file size. But I'd like to know. There's some processing I can only do in GoPro studio, plus working with the uncompressed AVI is way faster.

PSE 8 vs PSE7 slideshow creation

I have successfully created slideshows in PS Elements 7. After installing PS Elements 8, I no longer can produce a viewable slideshow. Here is my procedure; -- start the browser, -- select images to be included in the slideshow, -- , go to CREATE > Slideshow, select OUTPUT on the Slide Show Editor screen, then choose Save as a File , to make a WMV in NTSC format and hit OK, -- then name the slideshow file that is to be created on the Save SlideShow as WMV screen. After creation, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the slideshow--I answer YES. A WMV file is created but it is unviewable -- when playing it, the screen is constantly black. If I play it in the slideshow editor, the timeline advances properly but the preview window also remains black.

I am having a similar problem. If I am in the slide show editor, and click the play button, the screen goes black, but I can see the thumbnails light up one at a time.
If I "output" a pdf slide show I can use it with no difficulty. If I "output" a wmv file it is all black.
If I try to view a wmv from years ago that is in my catalog I do not have a problem.
Any ideas?
Since my last successul slide show creation I have upgraded from PSE7 to PSE 8 and I have also upgraded Pinnacle Studio Plus to v12. I am not using Studio right now, but wanted to be complete about what is on the system.

Quicktime movie trailer audio problems

I have downloaded a few HD 720 trailers to use in a custom movie intro. The problem is, when ever I try to play them back, I have no audio at all. I have tryed using several different programs, like Roxio Media Creator 9, Ulead Video Studio Plus 11.5 and Vegas Video Pro 8. Each program has the same results, no audio.
About a year ago, I was able to save the trailers and insert them into my program and everything worked just fine.
Has anybody had this problem or now of a fix to my problem.

Problem downloading video

I recently wanted to download an episode of a TV show from
4OD, the on demand site for channel 4 in the UK. I first had to
download the 4OD software. Halfway through the installation process
I got this message:
error 1904 module windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9.ocx
failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473
I then tried to download theTV episode which stopped halfway
through with this message:
Unrecoverable Kontiki error
This is the response I received from 4OD:
1. This issue has been around since Flash 7, and 4oD had not
been released at that stage.
2. The issue surrounds over-writing previous versions of the
flash 9.ocx file.
3. This file cannot be registered because the previous file
has read only permission.
4. Adobes forums are full of people with this issue, most of
which are from the online gaming community and not customers of
4oD.
5. The reason why you are having problems now is because our
site requires a flash upgrade rather than using the flash
version that you already have installed.
I have deleted the 4OD and the Flash software, re-installed
them several times (manually as well) and still have exactly the
same problem.
Does anyone have any idea please how I resolve this. I should
add that I am not a very technical computer user on such issues.

Problems importing mpegs in PE4

Right... I use Pinnacle Studio Plus to capture mpegs and save these down. Often I need to edit these clips.
I try and import them into Premier Elements to edit and they are just plain green videos with the sound. If I play the video clip in windows media player there is no problem.
Please can someone explain why this happens?

About editing SD (Standard Definition) MPEG files (or ANY type of compressed file)

Then Click the internal Link Edit Compressed (MPEG/DIVX/etc) Files
Read each one of the items... clicking/Reading ALL of the information Links
(Bottom line... compressed files are NOT suitable to edit in Premiere)
(If what you have is MPEG, use one of the mentioned products to edit)

Should I updgrade to Final Cut Express HD

I am new to the Mac, having just bought it over xmas and having come from a PC using Studio Plus I have been very disappointed with the iMovie application (even the new v6).
I'd be interested to know peoples views on whether I should invest the £200 and move to Final Cut Express HD and if anyone has used Studio and can compare ?
Also, I was amazed at how poor the performance was using iMovie as you can't switch off background rendering and even with a G5 2GHz 1.5Gb of RAM it is soooo slow..... Is FCE HD any better ?
I'd appreciate any advice ?

Welcome to the Discussions.
I use both iMovie HD (but not yet '06) and FCE HD, and I do not find either of them to be slow. I will warn you, as Ian did, that the learning curve for FCE is much steeper than for iMovie, and I have miles to go on FCE. I will also note, that FCE often requires more rendering during editing, than I see with iMovie.
However, as is often recommended, I use a second and third hard drive to store my movie projects, and not the main HD. I use Firewire external disks, with no problem, and prefer the one I can use with FW 800 Bus.

Exportar a DVD

Trabajo con Premiere Pro 2 y tengo instalado el plugin de Mainconcept MPEG Pro HD. Normalmente opero con capturas de Mpeg analogicas tomadas de VHS o camaras no digitales. El problema es que al exportar a DVD me queda el video dando saltos cosa que no me pasa si hago el mismo proyecto con Pinnacle Studio PLus 10.7 donde quedan perfectos. Tabajo con una capturadora Dazzle dcS-200. Obviamente las capturas tengo que hacerlas necesariamente dentro de Studio PLus. Tengo que mover algun parametro al Mainconcept porque todo en la edicion se ve perfecto.

Trankilo. el proceso es asi:
1. Crea todo el proyecto. Asegurate de entender bien todo lo que respecta a transodificar al formato NTS o PAL segun el caso.
Tienes que trabajar (en américa) a 720 x 480 y sonido a 48.000 khz, 29,9 fps y DV1 Pixel aspect.
Todos tus assets o videos tienen que estar asi.
Luego MAKE DVD FOLDER. desde el menu FILE (archivo)
2. Selecciona la carpeta destino. Encore creará 2 carpetas:; AUDIO_TS y VIDEO_TS.
3. Abre nero 6.9.0.0 y marca EXPERT MODE
4. Selecciona la pestaña DVD y dale click a CREAR DVD VIDEO.
5. NERO abre las carpetas de AUDIO y VIDEO_TS. En el explorador ubica las carpetas creadas como DVD folder desde encore. La que dice VIDEO lo contiene todo. La de audio siempre estará vacia. Esto es normal.
6. Arrastra los archivos y QUEMA a 2X. Todos los quemadores reconocen esta velocidad. Si no puedes escojer la velocidad, nero debe abrirse en las HERRAMIENTAS DE VELOCIDAD que vienen con el nero. mete un DVD -rom (de datos) y hará la prueba. Luego de esto nero sabe a que velocidad soporta tu quemador.
7. Nero termina el proceso. Tocalo en tu DVD favorito.

Problems with the DVD burning software

I had ulead dvd installed on my pc but then had a crash so had to reinstall, when i tried this all i keep getting is error code 6002. I've followed the instructions that came with the error code but this made no difference. Today i tried to install Pinnacle Studio Plus and i keep getting the same error message. Ive stopped other programs, emptied the temp folder and still no joy. Help please.

Please check the Ulead or Pinnacle support site. Maybe you can find a proper answer. If there is no solution try to use System restore tool. It will help you to set the system to previous configuration. You can also remove both of applications manually and check if the Nero works again.
It is possible that after removing Ulead or Pinnacle in the registry stays a lot of entries that can be removed manually but if you are not a user with a lot of experience let it go.
I have also P20 almost two years and use Nero burning software without problems.

Firewire hub... How does it work?

I have an Intel iMac (summer 2006), and I want to invest in a new FW audio interface for my studio, plus the Focusrite Liquid Mix DSP card, which also connects through FW.
Plus, I work with two more FW external HD's, also FW, which makes four devices for two ports. So my question is, would a FW hub solve this problem?
From what I've read, it's better to leave one port for the audio interface, not to compromise its stream and take the most out of it, but I'm worried about connecting the other devices to the hub. What I want to understand is if the hub simply alows for more connections, or is it really like having more ports with the same stream "speed"? (sorry if this is not the correct term)

FireWire is designed to be daisy-chained, so if one of the two external drives has a daisy-chain (extra) port, you can connect one to the other and save on the need for one port.
Other types of FireWire-based devices usually do not have a daisy-chain port, so you probably still need a hub.
I have a combo USB/FireWire hub from TrendNet. It has 3 FireWire ports, but since one is the uplink, it is actually only a one-to-two increase. It works fine for my drives, but I'm sure there is some reduction in throughput if both drives are actively working at the same time. The next size up after 3-port seems to be 6-port. Make the one you get is self-powered (comes with a power adapter).
I think you are correct in connecting the audio interface directly to the iMac.

Is it still possible to buy version 3?

Hi,
I've been testing out Audition5.5 and it seems so that it really screws up the workflows we've used with version 3.
For example, the Export Multitrack doesn't remember its settings anymore as it did with version 3. Every time I export I have to change settings in couple of dialogs and popups which is very annoying.
Is it still possible to buy version 3?

When commercial users buy software, it's quite common to get only one physical copy but licence it to have it used by as many people at the same time as they need. The number of concurrent users they licence for is the number of "seats".
When the company I worked for about 12 years ago got a contract to provide radio news to a group of clients, we bought a particular brand of software (alas, not Cool Edit--I lost that battle because CEP wasn't as clever as we needed in a network environment) and had only one disk of the programme but licenced it for 7 seats (2 self op studios plus 5 work stations for the journalists to edit their own stories).

Pinnacle software

Is anyone familiar with pinnacle software for converting your own dvd's to put on the ipod,Some gal at best buy was telling me its really easy and a good deal for the money .
I thought I better ask here first.

I use Pinnacle Studio Plus v.10, ,and this feature does work well.... once it converts format, you save the file, and then AddFile in iTunes, and drag onto iPod....
