BT offers YouView box worth £299 for free
BT has announced today that it will offer a free YouView set top box* with no TV subscription to new BT Infinity customers. Broadband customers not in an Infinity enabled area will also be able to get a free YouView box* when they subscribe to TV Essential, starting at £4/month. Both offer a massive saving on the retail price of the YouView set top box, which is priced at £299 at retailers across the country.
With YouView from BT customers can enjoy:
• More than 100 digital TV and radio channels
• Seven day catch-up TV allowing customers to scroll back and catch up across all the channels from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
• On-demand content from BBC iPlayer, ITV player, 4OD, Demand5, Milkshake and NowTV with more content providers on the way
• Access to BT Vision, the largest library of video on-demand on YouView, with over five thousand programmes, including blockbuster and classic films, the best UK and US TV shows, kids shows, sports and the only place where you can find the latest HD films and music videos on YouView.
• Self-install YouView HUMAX box – customers with BT broadband can be up and running as soon as it arrives
• BT’s YouView box comes with 500Gb hard drive, able to store up to 300 hours of SD TV or around 125 hours of HD TV
• All of this with market leading broadband, up to 8x faster than the UK average**
YouView from BT will be available with all of BT’s TV and broadband packages and will launch on 26 October. Existing customers can also upgrade to YouView for £49 ***.
Customers who register their interest in YouView in advance (with no obligation) at www.bt.com/youview will have the opportunity to be first to place their order for YouView, during an exclusive window between October 19-26. These customers will be sent an e-mail invitation with a link to a special web site.

Hi guys,
I'll lock this thread so we can keep the discussion about this announcement all in the same place

  • Free Youview box for new BT infinity customers

Does anyone know how to get the free youview box for new BT infinity customers?   Ordered new service on 12th Dec and called in later to check how/when I'll get the Youview box.  The CSR told me that I had to call after the broadband was installed to arrange to get the box and I would have to pay £5/mo for the TV service but according to the BT site, it's supposed to be free for BT infinity customers and £5/mo for other broadband customers (+ the £49 activation fee for all customers).
As I understand it, the offer ends 31st Jan but my infinity broadband is not scheduled to be installed until this Friday, 1st Feb (after a whole lot of aggravation, wasted time, incorrect info and failed follow-up by various BT reps).  I'm afraid if I call in afterwards, I'll be told that I missed the deadline to get the box and/or I have to pay the monthly fee even though I'm a BT infinity customer.
Since BT phone reps have been unreliable, can anyone provide info on this?  Thanks for your help

I wasn't aware I had to do this when I signed up.  So you're saying even though my line isn't installed yet and I'm a new customer, there's no way to get this if I didn't add this at the time of order even though I know this offer was active when I signed up?  When I signed up, there wasn't an option to add free TV service for 12 months for Infinity so I didn't add the service offered at £5.  Would BT really use loopholes and technicalities to avoid providing something they've offered and put up billboards everywhere to promote?

  • YouView box for existing customers

    • What options do existing customers (BT Infinity) have to upgrade to a YouView service/box?  I don't want to be stung on 'Activation' fees.
It appears to be the 'Essential' package (£5 a month).
    • I don't really want to buy the player, and I don't want to pay a £35 activation fee.  I believe the YV box comes for free as part of the package.  If the fee is £5 a month - that's a pretty cost-effective way to buy it (it's around £180 new for the T1000*)
    Some other questions:
    • I presume BT are supplying the Humax DTR-T1000 (500GB model) box, rather than the silver T1010.  I think the T1010 is the same player but just with a silver case.
    • Do BT (eg the firmware on the player) 'lock down' the Humax in any way?  For instance, would the T1000 box you buy on its own be 'freer' than the one BT provide?   Would the firmware updates via BT be slower than the ones you'd get if you bought the box on it's own (ie not via BT, from Amazon)?
Thanks for any replies - much appreciated.
*does this turn into liquid metal and run after Linda Hamilton?

    1. Pay fee
    2. Pay up for service you want
    3. Yes it us the 500 GB box
    4. Yes updates come after those to retail boxes.
BT are supplyng a service if you want it, really you have to pay for it and enjoy it.
If you don't want to pay for the BT service then you have to buy a YouView box for yourself.

  • Quick question re Infinity upgrade / YouView box

Been with BT for TV and broadband for several years.  Until recently we were using silver TV box but a few weeks ago we upgraded to Infinity and received what we assumed was the most up-to-date TV box.  Since discovered it's not (it's a H3 box).
Is there a way of getting a G4 box at no extra cost?  Or is this another case of companies like BT treating loyal customers like second class ones compared with new customers (who I believe do receive the new G4 box)?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For those who were still on the silver BT Vision+ boxes there were three main options.
    (1)  Take up BT of the offer of a free BT Youview+ box.
    Pros:
    The box was free.
Any customers on an old TV PAYG package could stay on it with no fixed monthly costs.
    Coms:
The BT Youview+ box was only the 3rd generation one and not the latest fourth generation.
You had to commit to BT Broadband for another 18 months.
Any current broadband or calls discounts would still end as originally stated.
    (2)  Start a new BT TV contract in the normal manner.
    Pros:
You got the latest fourth generation BT Youview+ box.
You only have to commit to BT TV for 12 months.
You could negotiate a new BT Broadband contract possibly with new discounts either now or once the oroginal minimum term was completed.
    Cons:
The BT Youview+ box cost £35.
The new BT TV subscription cost at least £5 per month.
    (3)  Let the BT TV service end.
    Pros:
    Saved any TV costs.
No change to your current BT broadband contract.
    Cons:
You've got no BT TV service and can't even use the old silver box as a Freeview PVR.
It sounds as though you chose (1). Some others chose (2) or (3).
No such thing as a totally free lunch!

  • Why can't I use a Vision+ and a YouView Box

    Hi,
I'm with BT and pay £5 a month for BT Vision. I have their YouView box in one room. They only allow BT Sport on the YouView box if you have fibre and there's no fibre in my area. I asked BT if I could run a YouView box and BT Vision box at the same time and they said no. I ordered a BT Vision Card for a tenner via the online BT shop and bought a BT Vision+ box off eBay for 99p. My assumption was that I couldn't run both boxes at the same time (ie connected to the hub)......not a problem I can only watch one TV at a time!
I've disconnected the YouView from the BT Hub and connected the Vision+ Box but I get a C03 message saying my Vision+ isn't activated. Am I right in thinking BT must be able to activate one of two Vision services depending on the box? My initial assumption was that only one box could physically be connect at any one time.
Has anyone else experienced similar? Is there any way around this? Seems unfair as I am a BT Vision customer, I am paying £5 a month and if I want to watch BT Sport I have to give up my YouView box. BT say I can watch their channel via the web.....not being funny but a simple google search and I could watch their channel without even needing to sign up!!!!!
    Thanks
    Louis

It sounds like the 99p BT Vision+ box is running the Classic software rather than the New Look software. This is something you really should have checked before buying a second hand box. Once such boxes are deactivated they are effectively a door-stop unless BT choose to reactivate them. The box would need to be reactivated and then BT would need to send the New Look software upgrade to it in order for you to be able to use the viewing card for BT Sport.
I don't know, but suspect that BT would be reluctant to activate and upgrade a box that wasn't issued to you directly by them. They have been gradually turning off the Classic software over the last year or so and it involves older licensing agreements with Microsoft and content providers. Plus it might cause the central system problems now that you have a newer BT Youview box associated with your account. I suppose there's no harm in asking though?

  • Is YouView box free with BT Vision?

I am thinking about adding BT Vision again to my Infinity 2 and Anytime calls package and was wondering if I would get the YouView with it. If so, can I add the cheapest Vision deal and still get the box free?
I am thinking about extending my BT contract for another 12 months.

See this page for adding BT TV to Infinity.
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=27270&upg=inf
Currently TV Essential (£5) should come with a Youview box and the TV Essential Extra (£7) should come with a BT Vision+ box. If you go through the selection screens to build a package then it will add the correct box automatically. There is an activation fee of £49 and a minimum term of 12 months for either box.
The reason for the different boxes is that the Youview box currently can't support the way the extra channels are delivered. However this is likely to change in a few months time as the BT Sport channels will be delivered using the same method, and BT have said Youview will support BT Sport channels by Aug 1st. Of course there might then still be some other reason why BT don't offer TV Essential Extra and TV Unlimited Extra on the Youview box from August.

  • New standard Bt vision box v Youview box

I am bit confused, I know BT vision is about to start giving Humax Youview box to it subscribers I thought this was to replace the old silver BT vision Boxs howevervier I notice that bt has already started supplying new ( black) BT vision box's. Are the youview box replacing the these black standard  BT visions box or are both types still likely to be supplied. If the later what do you get on the black standard Bt vision that you can not get on the youview box?

The 1st generation BT Vision box was the grey one you refer to.
The 2nd generation BT Vision black box has been in use for a few years now.
There are suggestions that BT are testing a 3rd generation BT Vision HD box, but this is still under development and there are no official details on that yet.
The BT Youview HD box will be a separate thing. It is not designed to replace the BT Vision boxes. It gives those who want to make use of other non-BT Youview services an option to do that. However the BT Vision services via Youview will not be as comprehensive as those provided via the official BT Vision boxes.
    See this BT help page.

Personally I don't really see the point of BT having their own branded Youview box. If people want a Youview box they can just go and choose one from those on offer in the shops. As far as I know Sky have no plans to create a Sky branded Youview box, yet they will still offer services on Youview. But who am I to say.

  • Can I Watch BT Sport On My BT Youview Box WITHOUT ...

    Hi
I hope I have a simple question that has a simple answer!
I have a recently supplied by BT Youview box(Humax I believe). BT line rental and BT Broadband as well. I am in an area that does NOT get Affinity.
Can I get BT Sport on my Youview box? If so, how do I go about it?
I used the online chat assistant(32 minute wait) and the person there said I could-but as we got further in to the conversation she said she didn't know how to enable it as she was actaully from the billing department and didn't know how to do it :-( She said she'd pass me on to their techincal people to help me and she'd call me straight away. She did this and asked me to close ALL BT windows on my computer before she could pass me on. I did this. Only to find I had been put in a queue for some Bt helpline :-( After 38 minutes of being told BT were very busy, but that they would get to my call as soon as possible-the call simply disconnected. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, not sure why they treat customers like that but it certainly makes you think twice about migrating to SKY :-(
Anyway, I've spent ages on the phone and the computer trying to enable BT Sport without success. All I really want to know is: can I have BT Sport on my recently supplied BT Youview box with BT Broadband on a BT line? If I can, how do I do it? If not, will it be available to me any time soon?
I hope I have given enough info to help answer this simple question but if not PLEASE don't hesitate to ask for more detail.
Many, many thanks to anyone that can help clear up this frustrating issue for me :-)
    Heraldic

Thanks for that. The thought of trying to get back through to BT again fills me full of dread :-( I think I'll pass on that and give up hope.
    Thanks again for the help.

You would really have to speak to BT about that. (sorry). They would have to release you from your current contract and restart you with a BT vision box.
My fear is that they would charge you for the Youview box you currently have as it only becomes "your" box after you have completed a 1 year contract.

  • Pre bought YouView box

I am disapointed about the misleading informaiton presented on the TV screen of my YouView box.
I got a YouView box from PC World when they first came out, i did not have BT at the time. I recently got BT and when i re-connected my box i begun to see the BT Vision service! I was really interested in getting BT Vision and when i clicked on the service i got a welcome page instructing me about the Free 30 day trial, and the £10 a month service - subscription free.
So i went online as the instructions on the screen told me but i could not find any information about this free trail or the £10 a month service. After over a hour of trying to find more info and getting intouch with customer sercive from which i was passed to four different people who had no idea about the £10 service which it clearly says on my screen, i was told i woul have to buy a new box or pay £5 a month for just the on demand... which i allready recieve free from YouView and take out a 12 month contract.
I find this is totaly false advertising and disapointing that i am a willing to pay for the one off on demand services and was even intersted in a subscription. Why does it instruct me about a subscrioption free service thats £10 when it is actually £12.50 in a 12 month contract.
I feel i am being penalised for buying my box outright and that BT are loosing custom and many people like myself may have a box before i switch.
    Has anyone else experianced this?

The advisor merely made a mistake. As someone with their own YouView box you sign up via this link:
    http://bt.com/player
where, as you'll see, the unlimited plan costs £10pm and the pay-as-you-go plan costs nothing per month and then you pay-as-you-go.

Using Photoshop CS6 and after printing approx. 10 cards on an Epson R3000 printer the program gives me a dialog box saying "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."  Even after closing and reopening the program, the print command is greyed out so I cannot select any printer. This also happens with a Brother laser printer. Both printers will produce a test page out side of the Adobe product. Help!

I cannot get any help either.  I get the message "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."  I have reinstalled all drivers, powered off/on all printers (2 of them - a Brother HL - 4040cn and an Epson Stylus Pro 7890 - which all worked fine until this morning).  There appears to be no path to a solution.  I have read all the forums and tried about 20 different suggestions all to no avail.  Reboots, changing cables, reinstalling printers and drivers and Photoshop CS6 - ALL TO NO AVAIL.  On a macbook pro retina with 10.10.3.  This issue is out there and some get solutions - but not all - that's my crowd...the not all crowd.  I have yet to be able to print from CS6 any more.  This is a show stopper and my patience is wearing thin.  And I'm tired of stupid questions like "is your printer powered on?" give me a break.  This appears to be an adobe photoshop cs6 problem - as I can print from every other application.  Anyone have any ideas?  Adobe should have something?... • Youview Box

Signed up with BT almost two years ago , i recieved a Youview box , its been fine until i signed up again for a further 18 months.
The Box has started playing up now , if the TV is off all day , it takes a good ten minutes before the picture is watchable when knocked on , also the delay when changing channels is unreal , seems to take an eternity.
    Any help appreciated

    Hi
Presuming your broadband etc are all working without issue then try turning it off on the box/at the wall, waiting for 20 seconds then turning it on again. Then switch on the box with the remote and after it has restarted leave it alone for another 30 seconds to give it a chance to finish booting up; this clears the majority of minor issues.
If that doesnt work then please come back and one of the gurus will step in.

  • Connecting Youview+ box

    Hi,
I am sure there have been several of these threads but I am hoping people can help!
I am trying to work out the best way to connect several items together to get the best sound / image quality.
This is my current set up:
ISIS TV (hopefully not related to the Islamic terrorist group) with 2xHDMI ports none of which are ARC. SPDIF, Coax.Out, Headphones and Side AV.
Philips HTL5120 Soundbar with 2xHDMI in & 1x HDMI out (ARC), optical and digital (coaxial) and red/white cable spots.
The DVD player is a LOGIK L2HDVD12 with 1xHDMI out and 1x coaxial cable.
This simply leaves the BT youview box with 1xHDMI out, SPDIF, Aerial in, Aerial out, Red white & yellow channels.
Can I get them all connected and communicating with each other so the sound comes from the soundbar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in anticipation,
    Chris

    Hi,
    Have you tried:
    DVD -> Soundbar over HDMI
    YouView -> Soundbar over HDMI
    Soundbar -> TV over HDMI

  • BT Youview+ Box questions

I need a new PVR, would be grateful for help on BT's latest box...
Can you get Youtube on it?
Does downloading BBC Iplayer, Youtube, count towards my monthly Broadband usage?
If I record programs via aerial and Freeview tuner in the box, they will then be sitting on the box's hard drive. Is there any way to move them off the hard drive to an external device e.g. USB stick, to archive them?
Does engineer install box or self-install?
Never had a BT TV product before - thinking of £5 per month TV Essential package 12 months contract. £35 activation charge and I think £6.95 p&p for the box. Am currently on Standard Broadband but changing to Infinity when engineer arrives in January.
    Thanks for any advice.

    No.

No. Data used by the BT Youview box does not count towards a BT Broadband monthly allowance.

No. The content providers are very keen to protect their material and modern PVR's are becoming more and more locked down. The USB slot is only used for an external keyboard as far as I can remember.
Does engineer install box or self-install?
Normally self-install. Three input cables - power, TV aerial, and ethernet from BTHomeHub. Two output cables - HDMI or SCART to TV, and optional aerial pass-through to TV.
If you need some help or would like a long ethernet cable installed then you can ask for a BT TV engineer installation. I believe it is normally £35. If you need a TV aerial installed it costs a separate £120 and requires a separate appointment by a partner of BT.

If you wait until after Infinity is activated the BT web pages should then show the correct BT TV services and offers available to your home with Infinity.
If you would rather get Infinity and BT TV activated at the same time so the contract start dates line up you might be able to add BT TV to an existing Infinity order. That might also mean you get a BT TV engineer installation for free if required as one engineer will probably set up the lot if notified in advance.
If you are not sure about needing TV Entertainment then starting off on TV Essential is not a bad idea as you can always upgrade at any time later. BT are always happy to take more money off you! You can still add the free BT Sport Infinity multicast channels to TV Essential.

  • Poor Colour contrast from YouView box

The YouView box arrive,d just as we we off for a week. On installing later, the colours are weak and the picture blacks are dark grey. Other kit connected to the TV has no problem, with good contrast, nice blacks and no jittering!
I've checked/swapped leads, but the output of the box is very disappointing. The older Vision+ box (black) gives a far better picture. Any suggestions? I assume the BT troubleshooter will access the USB socket on the front to tweek settings?

Yes, thanks for that. I had already tried the scene button (Sony KDL-37EX503), but its not able to give the contrast I get on other HDMI inputs with other kit. I would have thought there would be standardisation of HDMI signal characteristics on connected kit.
I've tried older Vision+ and PVR recorders in different inputs (sockets) using different cables and all is well with good picture and contrast. It's just the Humax box which is out of line.
Unbelievably, the latest from Mumbai  (0800 111 45678) suggest repositioning the aerial............ Thankfully, my wife has stopped me climbing trees and onto roofs.

  • Youview box will not stream On demand content, rec...

    Hi
I'm new to the forum, I just had my BTvision box replaced with a Youview box, Youview works fine, accessing On Demand content the box just freezes and gives a ghost image of the last channel watched
Recorded content on Youview is completely corrupt
The box is hardwired with a new cable
I have a blu-ray player also connected by cable to the router and it streams Iplayer just fine
