Go to Solution.

I was unable to set my outgoing message. The handset would show empty battery and then switch off for about 10 seconds! This occurred on all handsets, with full, new battery and even if plugged into a charger!
I reset the base - no change (see above for instructions)
I reset the handset - success!

  • Trouble with Time Machine (runs constantly). Erase and install?

Trouble with Time Machine (runs constantly). Tried re-installation (equivalent of archive install) of Snow Leopard. Time Machine still unable to complete a back-up. Erase and install recommended at Genius Bar. Have backed up data to external HD using Super Duper. Should be a bootable backup. Last successful backup through Time Machine was 6/1/11. Not sure if I can access this back-up if I erase and re-install.
Computer shipped with Tiger (7/2007). Have original disks. Now running Snow Leopard. So: erase HD, install Tiger, then update to Snow Leopard? Start-up from Tiger disks does not appear to work (starting up holding "C" key). Suggestions? Want very much to transfer data to new iMac, but do not want to carry bugs forward. Very nervous about erasing HD. And have the questions above about reinstalling system software.
    Advice desired! Thanks.

Well if you can hold option and boot off the Superdupes clone and it works fine then you should be set to do what you need to do to the original boot drive.
Disconnect all drives and c boot off the Snow Leopard install disk, use Disk Utility to Erase > format HFS+ journaled your internal boot drive.
Quit and reinstall OS X Snow Leopard, setup (do not use Setup/Migration Assitant!) and update to 10.6.8
When you setup the new install, use the same hard drive name and user name as you did before.
Now the free iLife that came on the Tiger disks you won't get naturally, but you can pick them off the disk with the shareware program called Pacifist.
install your programs from fresh sources, this way you don't get the "crap" from the older setup.
Once your machine is up and going. Hook up the clone and transfer your user folders over manually. With iTunes just replace the whole folder. Because you kept the same user and boot drive name as before, the playlists should be fine.
Once your all peachy, take the opportunity to clone this new setup to a external drive, label and disconnect.
Make another clone for day to day, or week to week clone updates and your just a hold option boot away for recovery.
You know Superdupes and Carbon Copy Cloner both have auto-scedualing/updating ability, so you can leave them plugged in and it will perform a update so your clone stays fresh and recent.
But you should keep a clone timed back about a couple of weeks back just in case you install something bad and don't learn about it right away.

  • Trouble with Time Machine/Time Capsule try Backup instead

Trouble with Time Machine preparing to download taking hogging your system followed by errors that don't make any sense even if you look at the console logs to try to figure out. Try Backup instead.
    Find the software here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/backup312.html
It allows you to configure when to do back ups and specific data you want, and includes templates for configurations to make it easy. The only catch is you loose the Time Machine benefits of restoring an individual file easily. For me it gets around the issues w/ Time Machine hogging my system resources (Finder at 98% CPU cycles both cores) while "preparing backup", followed by strange failures that can't figure out, followed by more "preparing backup".

I was running backup instead of time machine until I saw snow leopard had time machine improvements. I'm very happy with the performance so far w/ snow leopard (OS X 10.6) time machine performance.

  • Trouble with time machine

I am having trouble with Time Machine. I keep getting several messages:  1.  Mac OS X can't repair the disk "Mona's I MAC"   2.  You haven't selected a location for Time Machine Backups.
When I try to select a location there is nothing there to select and the time machine will not stay on.  I have an external back up "my passport" by WD.  Could this be full?
    Need help.

  • BT3920 Quad Phones with Answering Machine from Tes...

Hi, Have bought BT3920 Quad Phones with Answering Machine from Tesco which only has a short User Guide.  Tried to get fuller guide on-line AND tried ringing all the BT Helpline numbers I can find, but to no avail.  It seems BT know nothing about the BT3920 and it looks like it was made specially for Tesco.  My problem is that I need to find out how to access the answering machine remotely and with no User Guide have found it impossible.  Have tried numerous methods but no luck.  Anyone got one of these phone sets who can advise please?

I have now worked out how to pick up messages remotely, but could still do with the full User Guide!  If anyone else gets these phones you have to go into Menu, scroll through Anwerphone selections and select "Ans settings", then select "remote access" and select "On" (it must come out of the factory switched onto "Off").  The default factory setting for picking up the messages remotely is by entering "*0000" on the keypad of the phone you are ringing from, but wait until answer message starts first.  Hope this helps someone else in need!!!

  • Problem with answering machines and PSTN voice mails

    Hi,
We are experiencing issues when we place a call to the PSTN and it is redirected to a answering machine, for example if I place a call to my cell phone and it is powered off normally it will be  answered by the voice mail of my celular company, but in this case whe have two strange behaviors:
1.- the call keeps ringing like my cell phone were available.
2.- the call is connected but we are experiencing something like one way audio, we cannot hear audio from the voicemail, but checking my voice mail on my cell phone I realized that I am able to leave a message.
This two issues occours randomly and for both home answering machines and cell phones voicemails, with regular calls we have no problems.

  • Broadband interference with Answer Machine

I have recently installed the Home Hub 2. I also have a BT Freestyle 2500 with a base station and 2 satellite handsets. The Freestyle includes an Answerphone (Ansafone if you're searching later!)
    The handsets are clear still.
It's only when the answering machine kicks in does the white noise interference start, it can be heard while recording and on playback.
I have exchanged ADSL filters and its still the same. It stops if I power down the Hub.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can still add an extra filter, if you have one.
Plugging it into the hub would use Broadband Talk, if you have the service. Otherwise it defaults to your landline number.
There is quite a bit of extra filtering on that connection, so that may help.
Remember to set up the home hub telephone setting page correctly, otherwise you will not get any incoming calls.

  • Anyone having trouble with Time Machine?

Mine will NOT finish any backup so it's constantly running the HD. THe onscreen panel will say
"Backing up 132,386 items" and "492.2 MB of 492.2 MB" and it just keeps thrashing the drive.
    For hours, I mean.
I told it to "Stop Backing Up" (on right click popup menu) and then I went into "Time Machine Preferences" and turned it off with the switch and clicked the padlock to lock it in the OFF position, and it's STILL RUNNING.
The only way I can stop it is reboot, cold.

Restart your machine if need be and turn it off. If you don't have any data on the TM disk other than TM, then reformat it (with case sensitivity OFF). If you have data on there, then just trash teh TM backup folder. DOnt' forget to empty trash. Turn TM back on and let it do it's thing. Don't browse the drive to see what it's doing; don't start modifying file sto test it out - just leave it be till it's done.

  • SPA 3102: Troubles with fax machine connected to SPA and dialing by IP PBX

    Afternoon!
I have a fax machine connected to the SPA3102 and i have configured an extension from the IP PBX, that it's working as a fax, so the problem here is that sometimes when i'm sending a fax, this one fail, it shows an error, the other problem is that i'm not receiving any fax at all, the people get the tone, and actually send the fax, and here it shows "receiving" (it's the weird part) but after 40-50 seconds everything fail, it shows "error communication"
    Hoping for help
    Victor

    Hello,
as far as I know, FAX and VoIP aren't the best friends - those technologies are not designed to work together smoothly ...
You may try following tuning :
Set your fax machine to 9600 (not 14400),
Make sure you only use G711a (Europe) or G711u (US) codec (fax will not work with others).
Activate  T38 FAX support if your device FW offers such possibility.

  • Networking troubles with windows machine

I've got this setup: arch linux machine with eth0 connected to dsl modem and eth1 connected to a win7 machine. the linux machine has a samba share on it which i can't really access on the win7 machine. i can access it, but i can't open anything which is strange because other machines on the network can access stuff just fine. another problem is that the win7 machine can't access the internet, it has network access, just not interent. i'm new to this whole thing so please help me.

Ok, it might help if you explain your setup a bit more. How are the other computers that can connect to the share connected? are they win7 or linux comps?
I tried win7 in a vm once and when the memory hit 700mB and I was nowhere near seeing a desktop I killed the vm. So someone else will have to chime in here. Best of luck

  • Trouble with time machine Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

help me please, im going nuts.
I have successfully manually backed up my macbook pro several times to a G-drive 750.  Usually once every 2-4 weeks.
Now when I plug in the G-drive nothing happens (previously, a time machine user page would open, say something like do you want to use this G-drive as back up, and i proceed to a manual backup.  BUT NOW when i plug in the Gdrive nothing happens, so I open time machine and I want it to give me the page to selcet Gdrive and back up now, BUT when I open time machine (Gdrive still plugged in), it goes into time machine  shows me new screen with desktop and multi layers of desktop behind it with options at bottom buttons to Cancel, Today (now), Restore.  Im almost certain this page is for retrieving old back ups as the right margin has dates of prior backups.
How do I get Time machine to recognize G-drive and allow me to backup (Ive done this before, many times,) but now I cant find the proper window/page that gives me options to selct Grdive and backup?
    Thanls for helping

  • Studio 4500 triple with answer machine

When entering contacts to one of the the handsets does this have to be repeated on all other handsets or can this be done automatically.if so,how. All handsets are registered.
    Cheers

    Sorry Mg1,
I think the Studio 4500 stores it phone directory on the handsets and not the base station, as such you can only add and delete the number on each handset (one at a time).
Hope you dont have too many numbers to save, as it can take a while ;-(
