BT vision+ versus youview+

Over the last two months my vision+ box has gone into standby  on at least 12 occasions twice during recordings. I wonder if I were to buy one of the youview boxes for sale on ebay could I use this in place of the vision box ( which is not a good piece of kit). Would I still be able to get the extra channels and sky sports.

That was what I hoped would happen with youview, but to start with there was no Sky sports channels.  This has now changed so I might be interested as long as thes channels stay on youview (which is not guaranteed). Which number do I call to find more details.  A not keen on paying a 'start up' fee as I am only persuing this due to the unreliability of the vision + box.

  • From BT Vision to YouView

I'm told that my BT Vision contract has ended and that if I wanted to drop to a £4 per month tarrif (I was on £12.50 but used precius little of this) I can but it would mean signing up for a further year. Does this sound right?
Seperate to this I've been considering jumping to YouView as all I want from my TV service is the standard TV channels, the possibility of BBC HD, iPlayer & 4OD and I see BT will 'give' you a box if you sign up to the £4 tarrif.
Are there any extra costs involved with switching to YouView on BT? I'm told YouView can access LoveFilm, will it do this with BT or am I tied to their on demand film channel?

  • Changeover from BT Vision+ to Youview

I have just been offered a new BT Youview box to replace my aging Vision+ Box.   BT tell me I will loose all my recordings when I plug in the new YOUVIEW Box.
    Question.
Can I set up the NEW YOUVIEW box without connecting to the internet  and use it to record freeview chanels  whilst I leave the old Vision+ box connected to the internet until I have finished watching any recordings.
Will the new Youview box function just as a PVR until I am ready to change them over ?
or will my Vision + box stop working as soon as the new box arrives ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When I changed over I connected the new Youview box to the homehub, and used a spare Hdmi input on my TV. The BT Vision box still functioned with no internet connection and I watched the existing recordings that way. I set up all new recordings on the new Youview box. When everything was watched on the old box I sent it back to BT. I'm not sure if the youview box will boot up without a network connection, Can you physically connnect both boxes to the Homehub? I know someone who did this and it worked OK. Sorry I can't be more helpful, I can't remember the last time we had a power failure.

  • Choosing between BT Vision and Youview - help?

Hi everyone, I've got a BT Vision box (black one) and am on PAYG with the old style EPG. I installed a BT Vision box this weekend and it had a lovely new EPG on it. So I have some questions:
    1. can I get the new EPG on my box?
    2. I'm debating moving back into contract. Do I get a new Vision box or Youview?
The reason I ask is that I saw online recently that Vision is getting the FX channel but Youview isn't. I'd quite like to watch Walking Dead on FX! I'd also like Freeview HD.
final bit of info, I like the Box Office service on Vision and the ability to rent current movies on the odd occasion without having to visit Blockbuster. Lovefilm is all well and good but the films are not current. I want the same movies as I can get in Blockbuster, albeit maybe a month or so after release (as I get with Vision at the moment)
Can anyone shed any light on the pros and cons, taking into account my desire for FX and HD?
I'm an IT Support Geek by day so feel free to get technical if you like

This should probably of on YouView board.
The new software will arrive on your box in due course along with linear channels when they launch assuming you name meet whatever criteria is laid down at the time.
Personally apart from HD channels - all four of them - I see no reason to rush to a YouView box. As I understand it and I may be wrong you won't be able to record things like the Walking Dead on the YouView box in its present configuration - bear in mind BT only issued the Humax box because PACE weren't ready with their supposedly superior box.
Finally there is no guarantee that re contracting will get you a new box but there is a fair possibility.
Whatever there is a choice and that choice has to be personal. I am staying with the BTVision box. In time the two options will merge in to one.
ps there is quite a lot of HD On Demand

  • Vision+ or Youview - which is the best box?

After I had a few problems getting BTSport sorted on my YouView box Customer Services have sent me a Vision+ box.  Everything is now sorted with the YouView box so I'm inclined to keep it and send the Vision+ box back (if it ain't broke, don't fix it !) but I just wondered what the views of some of you folks with more experience of BT Vision are.
Which box would you keep - YouView or Vision+ ?

If you don't need Sky Sports keep the YouView box.

  • Switched from Vision+ to Youview

Ok new Youview box has arrived but looks nothing like the new one I see on the Webpage think its the old style. Is there a huge difference and is it worth worrying about ?

The functionality of the two boxes is the same, but the old one is slower - annoyingly so at times.

  • Upgrade from vision to youview, how much?

I am a btvision customer for some years but my contract has run out,can I get the youview box for free or do I still have to pay £49 connection charge,if i do then its not really free.

Hi, you sure. TT have an actvation fee

  • YouView & BT Vision

    2 questions:
    1. If I buy a YouView box, say from Amazon, can I access the BT Vision On Demand content that I subscribe to on the YouView box (as you can if you plug in a second BT Vision box)?
    2. If I subscribe to this new offer from BT YouView, it says that I can "move your BT Vision service onto a YouView box". Does this mean that they want my BT Vision box back - or will somehow disable it so that you are no longer a BT Vision customer?

    miket101 wrote:
Minusdot is that the email you recieved from bt ? Mine was different. Didn't bt say you could buy a box from elsewhere and use bt vision on it you just have to contact them.
That's the link in the email at the top that's for if you're having difficulty reading the email. Would you care to share your link? I don't think it's personalised. If they said that then that's good news.
I think a couple of folk on here have actually purchased a Humax. I'm not sure if they're still on the forum or if they were already subscribed to BT Vision or subscribed to the new £10 per month BT Vision through YouView service. I just would like to know if you can have On Demand on both with or without the BT deal.

  • What model of BT Vision box is needed for BT Sport...

What model of BT Vision box is needed in order to actually successfully receive BT Sport with a viewing card?
I know its got to be black not an old white one but is their a particular model or anything?

    Hi sfield3,
Thanks for posting. Which box do you currently have? If it's the older one you'll need to change it to the Vision+ or YouView box.
    Cheers

    Nigel Elliott:
Today we are joined by Rob, Sam, Francesca and Gary. Welcome everyone! Today’s chat is tech focused on YouView from BT, so if you have any individual service queries we can’t answer them during the chat, but do raise them in the forum as normal.

    Nigel Elliott:
This chat is about the YouView from BT service itself, all comments will be moderated and the usual forum terms apply.

    Comment From Phil
Hi guys I'm interested in getting this but wondered what the connection options are - does the box support HDMI, Scart and Component?
    7:03
    Nigel Elliott:
Hi Phil, good question our experts are typing up a reply right now
    7:07
    Gary:
Hi Phil, the box supports HDMI and SCART but not Component.
    7:08
    Comment From Guilbo
Hi folks. We have heard much about live channels launching on Vision at some point. Will these be available on YouView Vision player at the same time and will they be recordable?
    7:10
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks for the question Guilbo - keep them coming guys!
    7:11
    Gary:
Hi, we are launching live channels on our Vision+ box soon and are also working on live channels on the YouView box. These will be available later in 2013
    7:12
    Gary:
You will be able to record them when they become available
    7:13
    Comment From Guilbo
Thanks, Gary. Will Sky Sports become available on YouView when you launch the linear channels?
    7:14
    Comment From Dee
Hi guys, will YouView usage count towards my broadband usage?
    7:16
    Gary:
We will release the full channel line up next year
    7:16
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks Gary, does that answer your questions Guilbo?
    7:18
    Comment From Guilbo
    Yes, mostly.
    7:21
    Comment From Dee
OK thanks. If I have BT Vision can I still have YouView?
    7:21
    Sam:
Hi Dee, Yes, with a BT Vision subscription, all your on-demand viewing (including all Vision on-demand, all catch-up as well as players such as NowTV) is exempt from any broadband usage allowance. So you don't need to worry how much you watch.
    7:22
    Francesca Mahoney:
Hi Dee, thanks for your question. If you have had your BT Vision+ box for more than 12 months then you can get YouView for £49.
    7:24
    Comment From b-1
Any word on when manual padding will become available on YouView?
    7:25
    Francesca Mahoney:
Hi Dee again - just to add - when you take YouView for £49 you will recontract your TV and broadband subscriptions. Thanks!
    7:27
    Comment From Guilbo
Some people have been experimenting with running a Vision and a YouView box simultaneously. Can they coexist? Also are their any plans for multiroom with YouView.
    7:28
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks for the questions b-1 and Guilbo, your replies are on their way shortly.
    7:30
    Sam:
Hi Guilbo The use of two or more YouView/ Vision boxes on the same broadband line is not supported. If you plug in a YouView box from BT, your old BT Vision+ box may stop working and so you should watch the recordings on your old box before plugging in your new one. We hope to introduce a multiroom offering in 2013
    7:31
    Nigel Elliott:
Out of interest, do the people watching this chat already have YouView or are you thinking about signing up?
    7:33
    Sam:
    also see FAQ's www.bt.com/help/youview
    7:34
    Comment From Dee
Hi me again OK so, if I sign up to YouView with BT, what happens when my contract with BT ends? Will the box still work?
    7:35
    Rob:
Hi b-1, Are you having problems with clipped recordings? YouView are looking at why this is sometimes happens and are working with broadcasters to improve the accuracy of their recording signals but they are not planning to add padding at the moment.
    7:37
    Comment From Guilbo
Thanks, Sam, that's interesting stuff. I don't have YouView (yet) but it is something that I will most likely move on to at some point. To follow on from a previous question, if I am in contract for Broadband, but out of contract for Vision, can I still get YouView for 49 squids by taking out a contract to Vision Player?
    7:38
    Nigel Elliott:
Just typing up your replies now guys
    7:39
    Sam:
Hi Guilbo, yes you can get the Box for £49 if you are in contract on your BB but out of contract on your Vision, taking the Youview box for £49 will recontract your Vision for another 12 months.
    7:39
    Francesca Mahoney:
    Hi Dee again
At the end of your contract the YouView box will still function but we hope you'll want to stay with your BT Vision subscription so you'll have access to all of our On Demand content and none of your YouView usage will count towards your broadband allowance.
    7:42
    Comment From Guilbo
Thanks folks. This is really helping to firm up on some things which up to now have been sketchy.
    7:42
    Francesca Mahoney:
    No probs Guilbo
    7:44
    Nigel Elliott:
No problem Guilbo, if you have any other questions keep them coming!
    7:44
    Rob:
Hi All, Did you hear that YouView have just launched a free iPhone app to let you set a recording on your box while you're on the move? It's not yet available for Android phones. If you have an iPhone 3GS or later, an iPod touch or iPad, it's well worth downloading.
    7:47
    Comment From Steph
Hi Rob, if I have YouView from BT will I still be able to get BT Player programs via the app?
    7:47
    Comment From MikeC
Are there any plans to offer boxes with large hard-drives and can I get 3D content via BT Vision on YouView?
    7:48
    Comment From Guilbo
Interesting about the app. Will the services on it ever be able to stream to mobile devices, I wonder?
    7:49
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks folks, you'll get your replies very soon
    7:53
    Rob:
Hi Steph & Guilbo, The YouView app is just for setting recordings at the moment. It will get better over time I'm sure, but streaming to mobile devices won't be possible for a while I expect.
    7:56
    Nigel Elliott:
Just a couple of minutes left guys, if you have any other questions now's the time to submit them!
    7:56
    Sam:
Hi Mike, we are looking into the possibility of bringing 3D content on Youview from BT in the future. The Youview Box from BT is 500GB but the High Street Retailers have both 500GB and 1TB.

You were originally going to use a Pace box. Is the Humax a stopgap or is this now the permanent offering. Will there ever be a choice of boxes from BT?
    8:00
    Sam:
Hi James, sorry no not at the moment but it may be something Youview do in the future
    8:01
    Nigel Elliott:
    No problem Mike
    8:03
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks Guilbo, the experts are typing up your answer.
    8:05
    Rob:
Hi Guilbo, The YouView from BT box is a Humax box and as soon as any other other box types are announced we will let you know.
    8:06
    Comment From Guilbo
Cheers, Rob. Think that's me out of questions now, so thanks very much for your time. It has been useful.

  • BT Vision BTV-412 ERROR

    Hi Folks,
    desperate need of help!!
im 100% convinced this is an account issue - BT want to send an engineer out for the 5th time - had the last one out today and he confirmed all hardware was fine.
this is a transcript from a chat earlier tonight:
im not a complainer but im at my wits end - been at this for a month!
I have had BT TV, Infinity & Telephone Line installed on the 19th of December.
According to your system the broadband wasn't installed correctly and an engineer was required.
this was booked for January 9th
Everything was working fine until 8pm on january 8th and since then my TV isn't working.
I'm getting error code BTV-412 on my smaller vision box and can't get BT services at all on my larger Youview D1000 box.
the BT web forums all suggest the fault is with port or provisioning settings on your side.
Alex Fowlis: your forum seems to point to the answer at the end:

    Hi Alex,
Please PM me your details and I'll check your account out.
Could you also try launching the BT app and let me know what time you see the BTV-412 and I'll check the server logs.

  • BROADBAND USAGE WITH YOUVIEW??

Does anyone know if YouView counts towards your broadband usage? BT Vision didn't but I hear that You View can rack up your monthly usage. Not mention on website of course?

    Hi Sjf9712,
If you have to YouView through BT then no need to worry about your BT Broadband usage allowance - all BT Vision and YouView On Demand and Catch Up TV is exempt from your usage.

  • BT Youview and Now TV

Been looking on the comparison between vision and youview and notice bt mention now tv on-demand service.
would I be right in thinking that if someone watched this service it wouldn't count towards your broadband usage.

I have had NOW TV on top of my BT Vision for just over a week and just found I went over my usage in a few days, must have used nearly 20GB .
I checked again (new month) and used 2.46 GB in one day.  This has to be NOW TV as I checked when I first had the box and BT Vision does not show up.
DONT get caught out, NOW TV does count to you allowance.

  • YouView lost BTSport n now software updates failin...

Hi. I have a Humax DTRT100.  BT Sport was working and then we we switched on one day and only got a black screen - nothing to see.  We were told to do a factory reset.  We got the box working but still no BT Sport. Next support person told us to do a software upgrade.  But it constantly fails.  Next support person said your broadband speed isnt what it should be (or what i have been paying for for a year) - we'll send an engineer.  Had an engineer here all afternoon who has corrected the original installation and doubled the broadband speed but I am still getting exactly the same error - the upgrade gets n% through (the most it 63%) and then it says is Sorry an error has occured while trying to update your software, please try again later'.  I am waiting for a phone call from someone in another support office - promised in the next 24-48 hrs but has anyone got any ideas?  We've lost all the MotoGP recordings we had...husband NOT HAPPY!!  My channel listing goes from 302-700. Thanks

    Hi nuts!
Which factory reset did you perform - the one from the settings menu?

  • Connecting Youview+ box

    Hi,
I am sure there have been several of these threads but I am hoping people can help!
I am trying to work out the best way to connect several items together to get the best sound / image quality.
This is my current set up:
ISIS TV (hopefully not related to the Islamic terrorist group) with 2xHDMI ports none of which are ARC. SPDIF, Coax.Out, Headphones and Side AV.
Philips HTL5120 Soundbar with 2xHDMI in & 1x HDMI out (ARC), optical and digital (coaxial) and red/white cable spots.
The DVD player is a LOGIK L2HDVD12 with 1xHDMI out and 1x coaxial cable.
This simply leaves the BT youview box with 1xHDMI out, SPDIF, Aerial in, Aerial out, Red white & yellow channels.
Can I get them all connected and communicating with each other so the sound comes from the soundbar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in anticipation,
    Chris

    Hi,
    Have you tried:
    DVD -> Soundbar over HDMI
    YouView -> Soundbar over HDMI
    Soundbar -> TV over HDMI
