BT Voyager 2500v ADSL router & iChat

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how to make the BT Voyager 2500v router work with iChat?
I was recently upgraded from the BT Voyager 205 that used to work fine and even though my internet is now faster I can't make my iChat work.
Thanks in advance.
iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2GHz Intel Core Duo

Hi Marcello,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions
This page does not seem to show this device has UPnP.
Use the info on this site to access the device. Use the method described but open the ports as listed here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html and not the Ports listed in the link.
I see the device lists a Voice menu item. Is this for VoIP ?
This may be blocking use of port 5060 in iChat.
Do you have a VoIP service (Internet Phones) ?

      but i cannot access my resi gateway via the ip . i will enter the default into my browser and it will say ,using ie .6 page not found or if i use mozilla firefox unable to access.
             i have also tried connect direct thru ethernet on pc into wan on RG and even lan on RG. no joy
       i tried all things . i just want to tell it that i am fix ip and set up so i can share internet.
     ty in advance for any ideas

                   yeh all is fine, i can ping everything except this default ip. 192.168.1.254  i get timed outwith i.e  and with firefox get connection refused.
         seen the other topics on this , but it says about the dhpc thing start/ctrl panel/network/ ethernet marvel youcon in my case/tc icp. here i get auto or manual adress. my voyager dictates my static. which is above with diff last number.
            so do i put same ip in the marvel which my voyager uses . or do i put the default . i tried both to be honest. and all seems fine cept i cant browse just join with games . but my rg wont let me ping it so i cant set it up to send info to my 11b downstairs.

  • Any experience in netopia ADSL router and iChatAV?

    During the last 3 years i had used my Netopia 4541 ADSL Router connected with my LAN. I cannot use iChat AV with nobody else outside if they have got another router, don't seems important witch one. I tried many, many times to use ichat av, but i can connect only with persons with a direct connection to their modem (no Routers). Skype, works perfectly, iChatAv no, the same with all the others mac in my network. There is a configuration to do or else (like trash away my router, $600 was payed 3 years ago!).. Please let me know..

    Hi Corrado,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forum.
    To use iChat with your router you will need to open the necessary ports on the router.
    Please have a look at the following:

  • Voyager 2500v as repeater

    I presently connect using a BT Business Hub 2700HGV and as I have two of these items, I had hoped to be able to configure the set up to make one a repeater to extend the range.  This is not possible in the variety of router that BT buy from 2-wire.
    I have been informed that it would be possible to configure the BT Voyager 2500v as a repeater but while I have managed to get the Business Hub to recognise the 2500v, the 2500v won't function as required.
    Any assistance on how to configure the 2500v would be much appreciated..
    Thanks

    Is this any help - I know its about home hubs but may give you some pointers.

  • Connecting AE to non-apple wireless adsl router (Belkin)

    Hi,
    I have an Wireless VoIP ADSL router (Belkin) that was provided by my ISP that I use for my home phone and Internet access. It is only a/b/g capable. I currently use it to wirelessly connect to the Internet and other computers on the wireless/wired network from my Macbook Pro. My Macbook Pro has my iTunes and music on it.
    I am wondering if I can purchase the AE to plug in by my stereo and connect it wirelessly to the Belkin so that I can stream music to the stereo from the Macbook Pro via the Belkin (eg. Macbook -> Belkin -> AE). I would also like to use the Ethernet port on the AE by the stereo to connect a media center into the wireless network (the media center only has an ethernet port - no wireless built in).
    If this won't work will I be able to just run the AE as a 2nd wireless AP and connect to it directly from the Macbook Pro when I want to play tunes through the AE? This would not be ideal as I would in theory only be able to connect to either the AE for music streaming or the Belkin for Internet access.
    Can the Macbook connect to the Belkin via 802.11a or g for instance and the AE using 802.11n at the same time?
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Yes, you should be able to do this with the newer 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn). Because you have a requirement to have the AXn's Ethernet port enabled, you would just need to reconfigure the AXn as a ProxySTA.
    To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

  • Connecting Hardwire IP Phone to Wireless ADSL Router

    I have a Mitel 5340 IP Phone that doesn't have wireless capability. I currently have a Westell 327W ADSL router with wireless capability. The router is in room X. The PC and IP Phone are in room Y. The PC works fine with wireless, but I can't connect the phone through the computer. How do I get wireless to my phone? Wondering if I can purchase a linksys router/AP that I can pick up the signal from my Westell and plug the phone into it. Or if I can purchase a CAT5 to USB adaptor to work with a wireless antenna to pick up signal.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!!

    I am afraid, there is no wireless USB adapter that could make your IP Pone wireless, a Wireless Adapter is not just plug and play, in order to use any wireless adapter you have to install it's drivers...

  • Airport express and Negear adsl router

    I have a wi-fi netgear dg834g adsl router, which is connected to internet; my imac has not an airport card so it connects to the router with the ethernet port. Now, I have the airport express: what i'd like to do, is to connect my playstation (or pc) to the ethernet port of the airport express, but in another room. The poin is, Airport as to act as Wds and i know my router doesn't support it: but, if I buy another adsl router, or I add another access point to my router which supports wds, will it work? Cause on Apple support it seems you have to youse an airport base station only to do that. That would be crazy!

    This is in the faq:
    # Question: Can AirPort Express be used for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?
    Answer: Yes. AirPort Express can be a WDS main, remote, or relay station. It can function as a WDS main whether or not you are using it as a router to share your Internet connection (NAT).
    # Question: Can networkable game consoles and digital video recorders join my network via AirPort Express?
    Answer: Yes, if you have the proper network adapters for your devices and have set them up properly. They can connect wirelessly when AirPort Express is your only base station or when it's in WDS mode. They can connect via wire when AirPort Express is a WDS remote (the reason for this is described in the next question). They cannot connect either way when AirPort Express is in client mode.
    # Question: Since AirPort Express only has one Ethernet port, does it act as a LAN port, WAN port, or both?
    Answer: Depending on how you have it set up, the Ethernet port can function as a LAN port (defined as either simple bridging or sharing your Internet connection via network address translation) or a WAN port (connecting to your broadband Internet service provider or upstream router). However, it never acts as both simultaneously in the way that the original AirPort Base Station (Graphite) can. When the AirPort Express is using network address translation, the Ethernet port acts as a WAN port. When it is set up as a WDS remote station, it can act as a LAN port. Assuming that your Internet service provider only gives you one IP address (the most common scenario for homes), this means that AirPort Express can only accommodate wired clients when acting as a WDS remote base station or bridge. Therefore, if you need to support wired clients and only want to get one base station (or router, as it's the routing capacity of AirPort Express that is relevant here), you should get the AirPort Extreme Base Station instead.
    so maybe i'm right,but I want to be sure

  • Wireless adsl router recommendations...best range.

    Im having the same horrible issue's everyone else is complaining about...had a new airport car & new logic board installed but still having issue's. I can't seem to get anymore than 10 meters away from the adsl router without the signal getting so low you can't surf. I've tried without the only 2 things I can think that would interfere (microwave & cordless phone) but it makes no difference.
    I've tried a D-link G604T & a Belkin Mimo G+ and the D-link was better....anyone have good success with any other specific model??
    Im going to take the unit to my place & test the range there & at work as well....just make sure it's not something funny at there place.
    Cheers
    KiwiMR2

    Well I have the unit here at home with me & I can get half way down the drive (a good 20 metres) in windows & still get 500-1000 kpbs speed so that's fine. I can about 5 metres less using the Mac OS. Why might that be??
    So it's probably the location of the router.
    What I have experianced in the last 30 mins is randomly while Im using the mac side the screen goes completly blue for a second or two then bback to normal. Has only done it 2-3 times in the last 10m mins but prior to that it was none stop every 10 secs & I had to re-boot.
    Cheers

  • What ports to open on ADSL router for ePrint

    My HP ePrint printer is behind an ADSL router with firewall/NAT functionality. The printer has an internal ip address.
    Incoming connections from the internet are by default denied unless I open specific ports and protocols on the firewall and do natting to the internal network. What do I need to to open to allow HP to send print jobs to my HP printer at home?

    This setup works for me on a port-based firewalled NAT router with all inbound/outbound TCP/UDP ports blocked from 1 to 65535 except those enabled out of necessity like DNS (UDP/TCP port 53). I added TCP port 5223 (XMPP over SSL) outbound only to the NAT firewall. TCP port 443 (HTTPS) outbound was already enabled. No UDP ports. No inbound. No need to do NAT port forwarding. Port 5222 (XMPP) also works for me but it's unencrypted, I believe.
    It takes several minutes for the ePrint service to get established but it does eventually work. I think the printer tries to connect to the ePrint service on port 5222 first and when that fails it tries 5223 so it takes a little more time to get connected. But, that's just a guess.
    See http://xmpp.org/rfcs/rfc3920.html if you care to know more about XMPP.

  • Keep needing to reboot ADSL Router to open VPN Connection

    I keep needing reboot our ADSL router (Netgear DG834N) in order to open a VPN connection to our server.
    I'm pretty sure this has come about since upgrading to 10.5.2
    Any ideas what the problem might be?

    You don't say if it is PPTP or L2TP.
    Depending on model and firmware DG834x has IPSec VPN server capability built-in. Can complicate thing for L2TP "passthrough" (forwarding). Sometimes routers/firewalls without VPN server built-in is
    more suitable for L2TP forwarding.
    Could be L2TP having problems with UPD port 500 get "stuck" in the modem/router if that is what you use. Otherwise see if there is a firmware revison/update that fix VPN passthrough issuses.
    Also getting GRE prtocol through for PPTP forwarding can be tricky. A "VPN-pasthrough" setting, if available, could somtimes fix this.

  • Could Cisco 1701 ADSL Router supports WIC-1ENET Card.

    Hi,
    I need advise as to if a Cisco 1701 ADSL router could support WIC-1ENET Card.
    My 1701 Router has WIC 0 as ADSL and WIC 1 as ISDN, could the ADSL card be replaced by a WIC-1ENET. I noticed ,that the cards seems to be rivet onto the back of the Router and not connected with SCREWS as other routers would posses.
    Could someone advised as to how i can have this router supports 2 Ethernet NICs or what could be your recommendations?
    Thank you,
    Cisco End User.

    Hello,
    the WIC-1ENET is supported on the 1701, but, AFAIK, only in slot 0.
    It does not support 2 WIC-1ENET cards, only the 1720, 1750, and 1751 do, with a specific IOS release, check out this info from CCO:
    WIC-1ENET- Support for two Ethernet WICs
    The Ethernet WIC (WIC-1ENET) provides the capability to deploy additional Ethernet port(s) in a Cisco 1700 series routers. The initial release of the WIC-1ENET supported only one WIC-1ENET card in a 1700 router. The new IOS 12.2(2)XJ release offers the option of deploying up to two WIC-1ENET adapters in a Cisco 1720, 1750, or 1751 router. A total of three Ethernet ports can be configured. A typical application that requires three Ethernet ports involves using the built-in 10/100 Fast Ethernet port for LAN segment. One of the WIC-1ENET port could be used for high-speed broadband DSL or cable modem connection. The second WIC-1ENET port could be used for a DMZ (demilitarized zone) environment for deploying public Web servers or FTP servers. Hardware modification is not necessary to use the capability of IOS 12.2(2)XJ. The new IOS software is compatible with WIC-1ENET adapters already installed in 1700 series routers.

  • AX as a ADSL router & bridge - would this work?

    I actually use a wired (ethernet) bound ADSL router, and an AXn wireless station, connected to the wired network, which includes an ethernet enabled laser printer and an MacMini used as a backup machine.
    I would like to replace the ADSL router by another AXn, which would use its ethernet port as a WAN port and be connected as a remote WDS base to the existing AXn.
    Basically this would look like this
    Internet (WAN) <---> AXn (new) <........> AX (existing <----> wired ethernet network
    1. Is this feasible?
    2. How should I configure the wireless side of the new AX connected to the WAN ?
    Thx in advance

    2. How should I configure the wireless side of the new AX connected to the WAN ?
    The new AXn's Ethernet port will need to be connected to your ADSL modem by Ethernet cable. If your ISP requires PPPoE credentials (username/password) in order to access their service, you would need to configure the AXn with these credentials through the AirPort Utility.

  • Help needed - tunnel from behind ADSL router

    I have a situation in which I require to set-up IPSec tunnel in between two 1841 routers. This is normally two minutes job, in this case however one of the routers sits on a private LAN behind ADSL router (at the moment there is no reasonable way to get around it).
    Thus:
    1841-1 <-> WAN <-> ADSL Router <-> 1841-2
    1841-1
    FE0/1 Private LAN 172.16.1.1
    FE0/0 Public IP
    |
    WAN
    |
    ADSL Router
    Public IP
    NAT
    Private LAN1 192.168.0.1
    |
    1841-2
    FE0/0 LAN1 IP 192.168.0.1
    FE0/1 LAN2 IP 172.16.0.1
    172.16.1.0-172.16.0.0 require to communicate over the IPSec tunnel.
    Could you please advice me on 1) what is the most practical way to set this up with out loosing sanity; and 2) Could you maybe point me to some documentation that deals with this specific scenario?
    Thanks.

    '1841-2' does not have public IP (it "fakes" to have one).
    IPsec tunnel is fully working now.
    In the process though I have learned that it depends on what ADSL modem you are using to get this working.
    Check out http://kb.juniper.net/KB4715 for example (this is the one I got working).
    You can thus give your Cisco router a private IP behind ADSL router and then follow the steps from the knowledge base article above on ADSL modem (if you have same type available).
    In addition then, on your Cisco router - you require to add loopback 0 interface and give it public IP of your ADSL router (yes - your adsl router WAN interface and loopback interface on your Cisco router have now the same public IP).
    As the last step, on your Cisco router, change tunnel interface: source interface loopback 0 and destination your remote gateway.
    I am going to try different modems, many models can actually do this, but the documentation is often unimpressive.
    It is possible that there are better ways to do this, if so, please let me know.
    If you wish to have more details about the set-up, let me know.
    Thanks.

  • 1841 ADSL Router - Forward GRE/PPTP query

    Hi,
    <br />
    <br />I have a customer that has an 1841 ADSL router as a backup to their main 10Mb ISP circuit. The customer has a windows server that they use for some remote access sessions with GRE/pptp. When the primary 10Mb link is in use, this works fine as the ASA on this link has a 1:1 NAT rule and allows port 1723 and protocol 47 through to this windows machine.
    <br />
    <br />When the 10Mb link is down, the customer would like to still be able to RAS into the windows machine but via the IP of the backup ADSL router (which is also connected to the ASA). Looking at various posts, I found that I need to have a static NAT for port 1723 on the inside to the dialer interface, which I have done - but I can't find how I would forward the protocol 47 traffic.
    <br />
    <br />I've attached a copy of the config from the ADSL router if anyone is interested.
    <br />
    <br />The IP of the windows RAS box is 192.168.247.113/24 on the DMZ of the ASA, which is translated as 81.X.X.X on the outside interface of the ASA.
    <br />
    <br />I hope that this makes sense - please let me know if you need any further information, and thanks in advance for any assistance.
    <br />
    <br />
    <br />1) XXX-XXX-ADSL-02-conf-03-02-09_netpro.txt
    <br />

    IP Protocol 47 which is GRE tunnel traffic. So there is VPN tunnel going through your device and all data going in that tunnel is translated as GRE traffic. You can only have one PPTP/L2TP connection through the PIX Security Appliance when you use PAT. This is because the necessary GRE connection is established over port 0 and the PIX Security Appliance only maps port 0 to one host.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't see ethernet ADSL router

    I'm having a problem trying to connect my new Airport Extreme base station to a one port ethernet conexant adsl router. It simply doesn't see that the router exists.
    The way I have it setup at the moment is the router distributes an IP address to the airport and the airport distrubutes IP addresses to wireless devices. At least that's what's supposed to happen.
    I have an Airport Express connected to the router and that works fine. Connects no problem on its default settings. The Airport Extreme however doesn't connect with its default settings.
    Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? Is it possible the Airport Extreme just doesn't work? I've connected the Airport Extreme to my laptop via the WAN port to set it up and that worked Ok so as far as I can tell the WAN port works fine as does connecting wirelessly. The two just don't talk to each other.

    Try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the ADSL modem, AEBSn, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the ADSL modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    o Power-off the ADSL modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    o Power-on the ADSL modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
    o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
