  • WiFi features and Android Lollipop

Hi, A few weeks ago, I bought a Canon Camera. One of the main reasons for why I chose it was because you can connect the camera directly to any android device and copy your pics and videos. Unfortunately, this feature is still not compatible with any lollipop device. As a matter of fact, the firsts android L development preview were released on July 2014, i.e. 7 months ago. I've seen another post for this same issue (here), but there's only one reply from Canon on Dec 24. So I want you to please give us an official answer of what's going on with this and when is going to be released.
    Thanks for your promptly solution.

First and foremost: this is a user forum, you're not going to get an official statement on anything here.
Second, what camera are you using, what app?
My Galaxy S5 hasn't been updated yet, but a look at the EOS Remote app says it supports 5.0 (Lolipop).  I see from some of the comments that there's been some issues since the update, but that's par for course for any major software change.  Regardless of the first Androids being released with 5.0, you can't expect third party manufacturers to stay current with state of the art, especially on this sort of thing.  The general public with "old" devices - that is, ones not purchased in the last couple of months - are just now getting the update rolled out.
Lastly: again, I don't know what kind of camera you have, but my experience with the 6D is that RAW files are way, way, way too big to waste time with wireless transfer.  I love WiFi for controlling my camera and seeing Live View, but when it comes to downloading I simply pull out my SD card and stick it in my computer.  Just a thought.

  • IPhone BT Wifi App - automatic login query

    Hi,
I have the BT Wifi iPhone app and it connects quite successfully to my home network and hotspots.
The only issue I have is that the app does not connect automatically, rather I have to open the app and let it do it's thing!
The strange thing is that I have the BT Wifi app for Android on both my Samsung phone and Nexus 7, and this app does connect automatically in the background. I don't have to open the app; as soon as a hotspot is available the Android app connects without opening the app.
Is there a reason that the Android app connects automatically and the iPhone app doesn't?
    Thanks

As far as I can remember there used to be settings to allow the iphone to connect automatically or not depending on your choice.
It has has been removed on the Android version, I don't have an iphone to hand to be able to check if they are still on the iPhone version. If you go into the App settings it may be that they are still on the iphone app and you need to tick the box to connect automatically.

  • Fios remote app on android wifi only devices?

So many people these days have a tablet. Some ipad, some android. I Dont know how this topic1 applies on ipad because i do not have one.
But i have an android tablet which is wifi only. The fios remote app for android is wifi only. I cannot use it on my phone unless i am connected to wifi.
So why am i asked for the last 4 digits of my phone number?
Unless someone has a workaround for this, i cannot use the app. And to me it would be pretty cool to use this tablet as a remote. Plus i could show my pictures on tv.(assuming that function is stil there)
Ive tried a google voice number but no dice.
So does anyone know whats going on with this?
    Any employees with answers?

  • Android wifi app query

    Hi,
I have installed the BT Wifi app on my Android phone, but when I try to connect, having inputted my user id (email address) and password, I am told I need to be a broadband customer to use the service. Well, I am a customer,  Infinity activated today, (working well so far)!  There must be something very simple that I am doing wrong.  Advice appreciated.

You need to login using the e-mail address that BT gave you, and its password. It may take 24 hours to become active.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • BT wifi app - android

I have the BT wifi app installed and set to auto login to any BT hotspots.I am running android 4.1.2 on a Samsung Galaxy S3
However one annoyance I have is that once the app has logged on to free wifi once, a "ongoing" entry is left along the lines of "BT Hotspot Access Connected to BT Wifi". This is clearly untrue as it persists long after I'm out of range of a such a hotspot, and using completely different wifi, or back on 3G with wifi disabled.
Whilst it doesn't break any networking function, it does take up a slot in the notification bar, and since it's in "ongoing" it cannot be dismissed
If the app is started then the icon/ongoing notification does get removed, but this should happen automatically.
    Known issue?

I think it's a bug with the BTWifi app
I was once connected to a homehubs BTWifi-with-fon SSID. This house was the last one in the area. I then drove 2 miles with views of open fields either side of me. I parked the car and we went on a beach and my phone was showing that the BTWifi app still had a connection!

  • Adobe Creative Cloud app for Android (preview) compatibility?

HI - I notice that Adobe have released an Adobe Creative Cloud (preview) app for Android. This is very welcome as it would allow me to share files across Windows desktop, Android tablet and, if necessary, iPad.
But it says it isn't compatible with my Hudl2 - why?
Could it be because my tablet is wifi only? (I hope not.)

  • WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Boost Mobile Example

    Greetings Earthlings and Android Fans....
Just posted this to my blog and wanted to share a text version here. Check it out if you're looking to tether your tablet to your cell phone. I tethered my Thrive to my Boost Mobile LG Marquee.
From:  Kaio's Klassroom: WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Infrastruct...
Want to tether your tablet to your cell phone, but Ad-Hoc got you down?  How about trying this nifty little tweak that got me up in running in a jiffy!!
I recently got a new LG Marquee Prepaid Phone with Boost Mobile @Amazon and I really love it.  Only problem is, I was spoiled with my last phone because it was rooted to support Infrastructure tethering and I had no idea how difficult and unusual that was.  I've since done some research with my new Boost Mobile LG Marquee, and after a little trial and error (and some lucky Google searches) I have successfully tethered my LG Marquee to my Toshiba Thrive tablet!!!
    Here's what I did:
Mandatory Disclaimer - The following information is for informational purposes only.  Proceed at your own risk!!!  Rooting will void your warranty and could "brick" your phone if you do something wrong!!  So if you damage your phone, or any of your tech, that's on you.
NOTE: If you don't have an LG Marquee, just search "your phone model" + "root" and you should find plenty of information specific to your phone.  There's always people wanting to do the same thing you are, so it's just a matter of finding the information that's already out there.  Once your phone is rooted, come back here and start on Step 2.
Step 1 -- Root your LG Marquee (You do NOT need to root your Tablet)
The following information was taken from LG Cell Phones Blog and are for the LG Esteem, which is a generic root mod.
    > Enable USB Debugging on your LG Marquee: Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging and check the box.
    > Download and install the LG USB drivers at:  LG Cell Phones Blog You want the file "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1_2.exe"
    > After installing the USB drivers connect your phone to a PC.  On the phone, pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and click on USB Connected.  Set the phone to Internet Connection mode (CHARGE ONLY not Mass Storage).
    > Download "LG_Esteem_Root.zip"  at:  LG Cell Phones Blog.  Unzip the file and double-click on the run.bat file.
Note: Kaspersky Internet Security will flag this file as a Trojan: "Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.ag"  I don't believe this file is a Trojan, per se.  I believe it's required during the root process.  When I let Kaspersky eliminate the file, my phone wouldn't root.  So I decided to run the root program on a secondary computer, just in case.  I disabled Kaspersky temporarily on that computer, and ran the root zip and my phone rooted without a hitch.  I later scanned my phone with Webroot Security and AVG, and neither found any viruses on my phone, so I believe the process is safe.  Technically, rooting your phone probably does involve a Trojan hack, hence why Kaspersky flags that file.  However, I must reiterate to proceed at your own risk.
Just in Case -- How to Unroot Sprint LG Marquee:
Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.  Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one.
Step 2 -- Verify that you have properly rooted your phone with this nifty free app: Root Checker Basic
If you did everything right, you should get a message that says "Congratulations, this device has root access."  If you fail to get that message, go back to Step 1.
Step 3 -- Download the Android WiFi Tether for root users app
Currently, the only version of Android WiFi Tether that worked for me was 3.1-beta7.  The newest version doesn't work properly with tablets, so be sure to get 3.1-beta7.  Here's a link and QR code for easy access: WiFi Tether 3.1-beta7 apk
Step 4 -- Configure WiFi Tether app:
I've tried many settings, but these are the only ones that have worked.  Start the app and grant Super User Permissions.  Then Click Menu to get into the app's setting.  Inside the Settings, do the following:
    > Change Device Profile to: Samsung Galaxy S
    > Change Setup Method to: Netd (Master)
    > Enable WiFi Encryption: Check box to Enable
    > Change Pass Phrase to: any 13 digit password of your choice.
    > Change SSID to: any name of your choice.
    > Change Channel to: 4 (2427mhz)
    > Disable Update Check: Check box to Disable.
    > Click your phone's Back Arrow to Exit back to the app's Main Screen
    > Touch the WiFi button onscreen to start tethering.
    > Grant Super User Permissions
Note: If you get Error Code 67, Click Dismiss.  If you update, I don't know what will happen; my guess is it will disable the ability to tether.  But if I click Dismiss, my tethering is Enabled, and works perfectly.
Step 5 -- Grab Your Tablet & Start Tethering
    > Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Check the box to Enable WiFi > Click WiFi Settings > Under WiFi Networks, find the SSID for your tethering app that you entered in Step 4 above. > Click on the SSID of your tethering app > Enter the 13 digit Pass Phrase you created in Step 4 above and Click Connect.
That's it!  Congratulations -- your tablet should now be tethered to your cell phone!
Now that you're tethered to your cell phone, be smart, and DON'T download a ton of gigabytes.  Just be smart about it, and you should be fine.  Remember, tethering to your cell phone probably goes against the terms of service with your cell phone carrier, so DON'T abuse the privilege.
Now that you're the envy of all your friends, why not test your data speeds: SpeedTest App - FreeMy data speed test results with my Toshiba Thrive tablet tethered to my LG Marquee:
    Download:  855kbps   Upload:  302kbps
That's pretty great for a 3g no-contract cell phone with unlimited data.
    Happy tethering everyone!
    Go forth and Androidify!
    Hugs, Kaio

  • In Case you hadn't heard --- KINDLE APP FOR ANDROID NOW IN MARKET

That's right.  If you haven't already heard seen or downloaded it, the official Kindle App for Android is now available.  I have it now and I synced it already and woah.  cool.  Just glad to have it.  With this I can activate on my wife's account and we can share her books and she has my Kobo account on her blackberry.  So we now only have to buy books once.  I am sooooo  Happy.  Now for Barnes and Noble and all my bases are covered.
So far I am loving Aldiko for free books they seem to have a broader selection of public domain material than anyone else at least in a useable format.
I love Kobo because it is a fairly well rounded market and soon to expand from what I understand with the agreements with Borders in place.  I tend to like open source and platforms that don't lock me in to using one company's device to use all my media.  I prefered to use my phones as MP3 Players instead of getting an iPod and I prefer ePub to kindle format because it is available on more devices, even if it apparently means that for some of the less popular technical material I like to read sometimes I have to wait a little longer or specially request it.  Just about anything else is available.
Kindle App, because my wife has a Kindle and has bought several books that I want to read but feel **bleep** buying again since she already bought it.  I don't like removing DRM's so until Kindle switches to ePub or one of the ePub readers supports Kindle as well what is it azw format.  I forget.  Then this app is a necessity.  Anyway, just thought I would announce it since I don't see a thread for it yet.

No problem.  I figured this would get more fanfare than this.  I have been waiting for the barnes and noble app as well.  I can't understand what is taking so long since the Nook runs Android and it is essentially an app that is on it that allows you to read why not just release it on the market.  It would make a lot of people happy.  I love Kobo myself but B&N has some stuff you can't get on Kobo.
Lots of good reading apps now on Android B&N is the only biggy still waiting I think.

  • BT WiFi App for Linux

I use a Linux laptop in central London, I'm surrounded by BT WiFi hotspots but can rarely stay connected for more than 5 minutes. Repeated login is tedious and the landing page always usurps the web page being used when the connection drops.
I think I need a linux equivilant to the android BT WiFi app. Does such a thing exist or can anyone recommend an alternative?
    Cheers all,

    Hello,
Sounds like too many connections fighting for too small a space..
Try changing MTU from automatic to something like 7891
Might help a little. Or scan the available networks and choose the one with the strongest signal..

  • Small App Development for Lollipop Know How

    Hi Guys,
Let me introduce myself, i'm hansip87 that is known for my own Small App for Sony Xperia device such as Media Viewer Small App and Fast App Switcher Small App. With this post, i only want to help any other small app developers about developing small apps for Lollipop and so on.
I contacted Sony Mobile Developer team to request Small App API SDK for Lollipop. Unfortunately they have no plan to update the Small App API to Lollipop. Instead, they give me a workaround to compile the project with Lollipop SDK. Here are the steps from them:
    Step1.
Change the ProjectBuildTarget from "Sony Add-on SDK 3.0" to “Android 5.0.1”. (A build error occurs temporarily then)
    Step2.
Include a path of the “(sdk root dir)/add-ons/addon-sony_add-on_sdk_3_0-sony-19/libs/com.sony.smallapp.jar “ to the “java build path” in a project.
Now all these steps are OK IF you don't use proguard. If you do, please add this line to your proguard.project file:
    -libraryjars (sdk root dir)/add-ons/addon-sony_add-on_sdk_3_0-sony-19/libs/com.sony.smallapp.jar
That way will ensure that your Small App can be compiled correctly.
Hope this post helps other Sony developers. Cheers!

As much as we appreciate the post - I have had to remove the links as per the forum rules ref advertising your own apps and or site etc

  • Z1 no actualiza a versión Android lollipop

Hola me pasa en mi z1 que no me deja actualizar a Android lollipop, ni a través del celular ni por pc companion. Saben que hacer o porque es??

For info this is the response I received from Spotify.  Rather disappointed with it as in my mind (and I expect other peoples) this is a critical piece of functionality that is no longer available and they haven't even aknowledged it as being significant.
Looks like it's time to cancel Spotify and change providers.
Thanks for getting in touch with your feedback.
This sounds like a great idea, thanks for sharing! Please feel free to share it on our ideas board.
You can get other users to show their support by voting on the idea. We’ll keep everyone updated on its status. Maybe your idea could even make it into the app some day!
We're always looking to improve and your feedback is critical for it, we're also working hard to comply with all our subscribers' needs, I cannot assure you we'll work directly on the lock-screen functionality for Android Lollipop, but the more supporters your idea has the more chances we have of updating it faster.
Let us know if you have any other great ideas or feedback.
If you need additional assistance drop me a line and I'll be happy to help you.

The emulator can run out of space for applications - so if you have other applications deployed to the emulator remove them and then try again.

The file to download the app for Android is not working from my phone--it says that the file isn't there. However it does see the one for the Iphone (even though it can't use it). I've tried it multiple times and continue to get the same message: "NOT FOUND The requested item could not be found". I also tried through the Market application on the phone but ended-up with the same result.
I'm very computer literate and am pretty sure the problem is on your end. If this is the case then no one can download the app. I considered that perhaps because it's still in Beta that it was removed due to some other type of software issue. I would really like to use Firefox on my new Droid (2.0); when with this be available?

Firefox will not appear in the Market for most phones with incompatible hardware. You can check if your phone is supported here:
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
Even on some supported devices, a bug in the Market software prevents Firefox from showing up. This may be related to the fairly recent Android Market app update. If you go to Settings/Applications/Market and choose "Uninstall" you can uninstall the update, and then search for and install Firefox from the marketplace.
Or, if you have a supported phone, you can download the app directly by typing this address into your phone's browser: http://bit.ly/fxbeta3
(Note: To download the app directly for an AT&T phone, you will have to search for instructions on "sideloading" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)
