BTSport Free on SKY

BTSport isn't available via my local transmitter so I E_Mailed BT to ask if they knew if and when it would be available.
No response from BT, not even the usual " thank you for your enquiry !! ".
SKY offer installation, a box and card for for £175 for their " Freesat on SKY".  Contacted SKY two days running and asked if
I would get BTSport with the " Freesat on SKY" option.
Couldn't give me a straight answer, just the " no agreement reached ".
Maybe that means an agreement will be reached and when it is BTSport will NOT be available via SKY.
The "online" option doesn't work for me, maybe my PC is too old/slow/not enough memory 'cause it can't be BTSports fault,
look at the investment they have made.
All is not lost in my quest for BTSport, does anyone have a 420ft tower I could put my antenna on ??

Thanks for the comment..
The " basic " package I was offered was £21.50 per month = £258 so I figured the £175 deal would save a few pennies..
Maybe there's a package inbetween that I wasn't made aware of.
My plan if I went with that would be to cancel everything from BT except broadband which I worked out at £10.66 a month which is cheaper than the £12.00 SKY are asking.
The jury's out on this one for the time being  ..
Use a cashback site. You will get at least £100 back of that £258 for signing up to sky.
If you wish to record the channels then you will need s a sky subscription of some kind. If you just go for the freesat option then you can get the BT sport channels but you will not be able to pause or record them.

  • Ordering BT Sports free over sky - do I still get ...

Have been looking at getting the new home hub 4 and getting bt sports free on my sky platform.
However, as we are already on bt option 3 (unlimited broadband) and can't get infinity as on exchange line, we can't upgrade to infinity, so the only option is upgrading via having the bt sports over the sky platform, which we want.
But, by upgrading this way and getting bt sports for free over sky, would we still get our new home hub 4 or would I have to pay the £35 as we can't upgrade any other way apart from the bt sports option.

if you get BT sport added to your SKY package the it will just be another satellite channel on the menu - it is already there.  you don't need  a new hub

  • My HD icon on the desktop is showing far more free space than I actually have.

I use a 2011 17" MBP with OS X Lion (750GB HD, 8GB RAM, 2.2GHz i7) and have noticed recently (only since I bought the new OS) that the Hard Drive icon on my desktop shows far more free space available than I know I have. It shows 488GB free of 497GB (with 250GB on a partition for Windows 7 Enterprise) and I know I have about 250-300GB worth of stuff. I've checked several times to ensure it's still there and all my files still work so it doesn't seem to be deleting things randomly. I just want to know if it's a calculation bug or if there's something else wrong. Thanks for any help in advance!

In case anyone reads this wondering if there's a solution, there is: turn off automatic time machine backups, and restart your computer. It turns out I had about 80GB worth of data stacking up between physical backups to external HDs. Apparently it counts as free space because it can be over-written when necessary, hence an elated free space count.
I also did a disk repair on the partition which OS X is on, which fixed some "minor logging issues" but I don't think that made a difference because nothing happened until I cleared the backup cache by turning off time machine. By the way, once I turned off time machine my HD free space sky-rocketed to 576GB of 497GB which freaked me out but don't worry, this is fixed once you restart.

  • Message to Moderator on the multiple errors that o...

I have tried to watch the BTSport 'free service' on a number of devices and have experienced many problems, most of which have been mentioned in the forums. But I would like to summarise my experience. Perhaps you could pass this message on to the chief exec.
I first tried out BTsport on my 2 desktop PCs and a laptop. It only works on one, the other 2 give error messages. The proposed solutions offered by BT do not fix the problem. The most popular is Silverlight corrupt. This is not the case as it works when tested independently, and still fails even when silverlight is reinstalled. Other suggested solutions like clearing caches, reloading etc are an insult to the users intellegence. They don't fix the problem and the problem is still there after 6 months.
Free BTSport product seems to have been marketed for use on PCs and various portable devices, but for some reason NOT TVs. I have a Smart TV with a LAN connection to my Hub. So I can watch TV over the internet using apps on my TV. However I cannot watch BTSport because there is no app available for the TV. I also have a PVR and freeview, but even though the channel is listed, I cannot watch it (even for a subsciption).
So if I want to watch BTSport on my TV, I have to connect the monitor on my portable device, if I can get it to work, to the TV -  and the quality is poor. Failing that I have to buy BT TV to receive it over the airways which means buying youview and throwing a way my new PVR, which with my Smart TV gives me everything Youview gives me anyway!
So I decided to buy a tablet with HDMI interface to the TV. When I watch BTSport the picture is a squashed 4:3 aspect ratio picture on a 16:7 monitor (tablet and TV). BT have admitted that this is a fault and will be fixed sometime in the future. Not to be defeated I was looking forward to watching Liverpool / Man City on Boxing Day so fired it up. Guess what? after about 15 mins the service dropped out and BT Sport app said it could no longer play the video. I tried a number of times to reconnect during the match but it failed to work. I tried again after the match had finished, and lo and behold it started to work again!
    To summarise:
The product has been poorly developed in my view. Thre are a myriad of error codes and BT seems to put the blame on various third party products. Suggested fixes don't work and I think the integration testing of third party products and supporting platforms is very poor. There seem to be many outstanding bugs in the system which need sorting, not fudging. It would appear also that testing on the many different devices is poor - you don't have to test on every coceivable device, you just need to get smarter in testing.
The product has been marketed in a way that severly restricts the ability to watch free BTSport on the TV. In fact it is very restrictive watching BTSport on the TV even if you are willing to pay a subscription.
Is there any chance your service will improve in the future, or will all those that have unresolved problems have to move over to Sky, which on the face of it seems technically superior in every way.

I don't use the online facility much as I have BTTV, but if I want I've been able to use it trouble-free since day 1 using any browser on two Windows 7 laptops. However, I've just got a new Windows 8 laptop and can't get past the VC019 message (Silverlight problem) with any browser even though I've tried all known cures. It's the same with Sky Go.
So I'm stuck right now, though I still have the other laptops if necessary. The problem with ascribing blame is that it seems impossible to establish where the fault lies, though I'll continue researching. It's clearly something to do with the laptop configuration, though whether it's something that BT (and Sky) should have covered is hard to say until the issue is identified.
Silverlight sure seems to have been a poor choice by both companies.

  • How to use Mac Mini's and HD Freeview to capture raw TV satellite feeds in NEW ZEALAND?

Hello, this is my first post on this kind of forum - I am not very tech savy so go easy on me! Ideally I am hoping someone can offer some constructive advice.
I am part of a business that captures television off air as part of an ongoing contract. The system was implemented years ago and consists of 12 capture chains which are set-top cable boxes. They are a mix of Freeview NZ (free) and Sky TV (pay) - both on Satellite (Optus B1 I believe). The boxes are connected to Eye TV 250 boxes which are running through mini mac's (Mac OS X 10.5.4) that all have 1TB drives attached.
We are capturing two hour scheduled harvest stream blocks, and editing the individual programmes out manually, for an average of 15 hours - equivalent to 27GB, per capture chain, per day. While this system works ok it is very labour intensive and we would like to make the system more automated. There are also a few issues which I would really appreciate some guidance or suggestions on:
1/ Eye TV turns the digital signal from the decoder to analog and then back out to digital again because we are using S-video composite cables. Ideally we would like to capture HD Raw signal with little or no compression at all. We could upgrade to the Eye TV HD box but would prefer not to because.....
2/ ...Eye TV creates a proprietary file format (Eye TV specific file) that requires exportation to play in QT or VLC and while you can export as MP4 this takes a considerable amount of time. Up to 7 hours for 1 hour of capture - far to slow for our requirements. Therefore we export as a Mpeg Program Stream which slightly compresses the file and spits out an Mpeg 2. IDEALLY we would be creating H.264 files
3/ We can only export up to 2 hours, 15 minutes of capture (any more than that and the file goes dead (black) from that point on).
4/ Because we are in little old NZ, Eye TV (North American) won't pick up the local EPG (Electronic Programming Guide). This means all the scheduling has to be done manually and the meta data is not captured.
So ultimately we would like a system that captures television with little or no compression of the digital signal, in an H.264 format, with the New Zealand EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) available for both scheduling and metadata, that fits within a Mac system, is not Eye TV (or does not create software specific files) AND is cost effective.
    Goodluck.

Hello & welcome to the foruns!
Maybe I can help with one facet...
Just a quick note for people who use Elgato’s EyeTV on their Macs in New Zealand. I’ve got an Automator script here that will fetch a TV schedule and load it into EyeTV. It takes care of deleting the file it downloads but you might need to open it (use the Automator program) to change where it downloads to.

  • Caller Display Charges

Last year BT introduced a charge for Caller Display. If you took out a new 12 month line contract they would continue to be free. I did this and have not been charged for this service.
I have just received my latest bill and there is a small note opposite line charge stating that I will be charged for Caller Display from mt next bill. Last year when BT announced this charge there was a furore and questions were asked in Parliament.
Will BT be doing the same this year and giving it free if a new contract is taken out?
I also noticed on my bill that I was being charged for BT Sport HD which I have never requested. I recently took out a new contract to continue to get BT Sport SD free on Sky. I know that it had been announced that although BT Sport SD would be free for another year HD would be chargeable. No mention was made of this when I took out the new contract. I have contacted BT and they are removing this charge.
It seems that BT will take every opportunity to put extra charges on your bill and make things as difficult as possible to understand.
    Peter

BT did not start charging for Caller Display until early January 2014 but because I took out the deal for 12 months free caller display on the 11th December 2013 I will be charged for it from 10th December 2014. I wish that I had waited until January 2014 to take up the deal.

  • How do I cancel BT Sport

    Hello Community,
I have the luxury of receiving BT Sport FREE via SKY due to me being a long standing Broadband customer with BT.
Being in my senior years and always looking to reduce costs, I may decide to leave BT when my present contract expires on 27th March 2015.  In the meantime, I wish to cancel BT Sport as I never use it and it may cause complications later down the line should I decide to leave BT.  I received a letter recently stating that if I did not renew my contract with BT on said date then I would be charged £6.75pm for the privilege of receiving a channel that I do not watch.
I just do not want the hassle at my time of life.  Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks in advance.

  • BTSport on Sky - BT Broken Promises.

My daughter &  family have shared our home for 17 years.   We have Two separate BT accounts, Two Telephone numbers, Two BT Infinity packages and both pay by DD monthly.  We also have Two Sky Viewing cards.
My Account  -   I registered for FREE BTSport and entered into a new 12 months Broadband and Calls package which started on the 29th July 2013 and BT Sport was activated on 1st August. I have received written confirmation from BT for both services.
Daughters Account - Tried to register her account ( Different Account number, telephone number, Direct Debit details, and SKY viewing card ) since 29th July and was regularly transferred over the next 10 days to Customer Services, BT Sport, Complaints, Broadband,  Viewing, and the Technical Team. The shortest call was 35 minutes and 3 calls over 60 minutes - cut off TWICE whilst waiting for yet another transfer.  My current monthly telephone bill shows I have been charged for contacting BT on 4 occasions.!!   After I sent an e-mail to Complaints on 6th August,  BTSport was activated on the 9th August and is still active.
My Account  -  Still working up to 11th August when I went on Holiday. Returned on 17th August , NO BTSport but message reading "Call the broadcaster to upgrade etc". Rang BT who promised a Manager would rectify this and would call me back within 2 hours, No one did. Sent an E-mail with the same Incident number to complaints on Saturday evening. No acknowledgement.   Yesterday contacted accounts re possible termination of our contracts. Initial contact Susan assured me this would definately be sorted and said she had referred the matter to Gemma, her level 1 manager who would find out where the problem lay and she would ring me back within 2 hours!! Guess what no contact.
Sent another e-mail today but again no reply.
I have been a customer of BT continuously since 1958 and it is the last resort for me to seek another provider.
BT accept BTSport should be available on both Accounts but seem unable to do it,
Can anyone suggest what else I can do

No we have 2 Accounts, 2 DD monthly payments, 2 telephone numbers, and 2 Sky viewing cards. We have both received letters, mine on 29th July and my daughter on 8th August confirming the free BT SPort pack.
BT agree we should have FREE BT Sport on both Accounts but technically seem unable to sort this. This morning I received a bill of £29 for setting up and one months rental for BTSport for a completely new Account.  I rang BT who asked me if I wanted to cancel this new Account otherwise if I did not pay the Bill would be sent to Debt Collectors.  I was asked to hold whilst they contacted the relevant Dept to sort this out. I hung on for 50 mins and then was cut off.
    I Despair

  • From Sky ADSL to BT Infinity2 - effect on Free eve...

Currently have our phone with BT and we have free evening and weekend calls. We pay monthly via direct debit.
If switching our broadband from sky adsl to bt infinity 2, will we still get free evening calls?
We would like the £50 Sainsburys voucher and to pay for line rental upfront for 12 months so how would this effect the current direct debit? Perhaps pay for everything online then phone to cancel the direct debit? But would this also cancel the free evening calls? I understand this is £2pm so can this just be re-bolted on?

If you contact the BT Options Team 0800.800.030 they should be able to advise you.
If you qualify for the Sainsbury vouchers make sure that you order online as you will not get the Sainsbury Vouchers if you order by phone.

  • Current free samsung TV offer from sky

I have just signed up for the Free TV deal ....At £16 per month (20%discount) its  not a bad deal . Installation on the 16th July.......  10 days after ordering . The Model number the customer service operator told me was HG32ED450 ..........I have downloaded an Instruction manual from Samsung and it is indeed a stand alone Television or can be hooked up to a multi screen hotel system depending on the model number . However , the specifactions seem to indicate that the maximum resolution is 1920 p x 1080 p in one part with reference to 1366 x 768 in another . There are two tables with differing resolutions for 60hz .  In my set of instructions Samsung refer to the TV as either a 450s  or 470s . The latter being the hotel television with the ability to be connected to a computer control system .  It can be controlled centrally and display welcome messages etc . Whilst I am sure the 460 mentioned in one of the posts on this thread is the same TV as the 450s / 470s are you certain it is not full HD ? The instructions that I have downloaded did not seem to confirm either way .   Would possibly cancel if it was not full HD . Cheers everyone !

hi i know this is not about the box but its the closest to TV forum on here as i can find, currently sky are running a offer where when you sign up to TV you get a free 32" TV, dose any one know the modle of this, as a friend of mine is thinking of taking the offer up but is pondering between the TV and the £100  amazon voucher to just put towards a diff TV, 32" is fine for them, as its just for a bedroom if its a decent TV might as well just opt for the TV  Thanks Ash

  • BTSport and Sky Multiroom

BT Sport is working fine on the main box but I am not getting a signal on my Multiroom box. The second box is giving the usual message about contacting the provider for an upgrade. Should this be the case? I had expected the subscription to flow through to both boxes automatically just like all other channels. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Surely it would be beneficial to BT Sport to be available as much as possible right now. I have the same problem with multi-room and contacted Sky regarding it, they informed me that as it was a third party subscription service they were unable to provide the channels to my other room and suggested I contact BT about it. BT don't seem to have much information regarding the issue and as to whether they are able to provide it for free to my other room or charge me another £12 a month for the privilege.

  • Cancelling Sky Talk Penalty Free

I switched to Sky from Virgin in December (tv, bb and landline) and from the off had issues with crackling down my telephone line which is at times so bad that I cant even hear the person on the other end of the conversation. Long story short since December I have had five engineers out to my house from BT openreach (sent by Sky) all of whom have decided that the issue is not in my house and all of whom have visited both the cab and the exchange and supposedly fixed the issue which has shortly returned. My question is this - Im not sure I can be bothered to have yet another engineer come out to do exactly the same as all the others and so will be looking at cancelling my Sky talk contract (but keeping my tv and bb). Now as Sky have ben unable to provide me with the service I have been paying for are they not in breach of the contract that I have signed and consequently I should be entitled to cancel with no termination fee or penalty?

Says it in black and white in information sent to me this week and the girl on the phone did eventually find a manager who confirmed this was the case - maybe depends on what package you've got and I'm not expecting them to action it any time soon....Sky BroadbandYou must keep the Sky Broadband you have chosen for the duration of your minimum term.Your Sky Broadband price will increase by £5 per month if you cancel Sky Talk.Sky Broadband Lite has a 2GB monthly usage allowance.
