BTX Bluetooth Extender
The other day I ordered the BTX Bluetooth Extender from BT-1. It is supposed to extend the bluetooth range by up to 100 feet (30 meters).
I am currently running a Mac Mini with OS X version 10.6.2. I have a wireless Apple keyboard and a wireless Magic Mouse currently connected to the Mac Mini via bluetooth and everything is working perfectly. This is connected to the internal bluetooth set-up in the Mac.
The BTX dongle that you plug into a USB slot is supposed to override the internal bluetooth set up in the Mac and all bluetooth devices should sinc with the BTX automatically when plugged into the USB slot.
When I plug the BTX extender in, I lose the connection of the keyboard as well as mouse and they do not connect to the new bluetooth device. I've tried powering up with the BTX in as well as turning the keyboard and mouse off then on and still nothing. I've shut down and powered up with the BTX in and still no connection. I've also set the Bluetooth software in the PC to search for all devices just before I plug in the BTX and even after I lose the keyboard and mouse it is still scanning but no connection.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Miles
As mentioned, when the original bluetooth connection (from within the Mac Mini) is up and running I am paired with my mouse and keyboard and everything is working fine. Under the bluetooth options I get:
"XYZ's Computer" is the name Bluetooth devices use to connect to this computer.
When I plug in the BTX extender into my USB slot I lose my pairing on the mouse and keyboard and I get:
"FLC-BTMDC746" is the name Bluetooth devices use to connect to this computer.
So I think the device is being picked up and is overriding the Mac Mini's internal bluetooth. It is just that I am not able to pair my keyboard or mouse to the device.
Thanks
Miles

I have connected a belkin Bluetooth receiver to my home stereo and unable to control music through my iPad and iCloud I love it except the range is very limited is there an extender or another option then I can use so that I can move around the house more easily?
You can use the Apple AirPort Express which has an audio out to plug into your stereo. You can then play music from your computer or iPad/iPhone.

I am buying an iMac to AirPlay mirror on my big screen TV with AppleTV (2nd generation). But my TV is located far away from my iMac and I won't be able to use my magic mouse or wireless keyboard via bluetooth connection. I know I can use an app to simulate both mouse and keyboard, but I really need to use the actual devices.
I wish there was a way to pair them to my iPad or iPhone, via bluetooth, and control my iMac via network. It is a cheap solution, as I wouldn't need to buy any other device. I believe all these devices, without modifications, have enough technology to be able to work as I've imagined. The only need was to adapt the software.
Is there a solution simple as this one, or do I have to buy a Bluetooth extender in order to use my magic mouse and wireless keyboard? If so, which BT extender do you suggest and what is its range?
Thank you!If you are still under warranty, contact Apple to get it serviced. You can also visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it looked at.

Can't pair bluetooth keyboard with apple tv
just updated Apple tv and it can't discover my bluetooth keyboard
I wanted to use an older, unused Apple Bluetooth Extended keyboard (this one originally came with an iMac G5, white keys, clear casing) but it refused to pair. Several times, the Apple TV said "pairing" and spun the gear wheel for several seconds and then the keyboard just dropped out of the list on the TV screen. No pairing code was ever given. I then tried it with a newer aluminum short keyboard and it immediately game me a 4-digit pairing code and completed the pairing.
As a test, I successfully paired and un-paired the older keyboard with my Mac Mini. No problems, seemed to work fine. Then tried it again with the Apple TV. No joy. -
Can't pair Auvio 1500465 Bluetooth MusicTransmitter with Apple TV
Hi. I can't pair the Auvio Music Transmitter with Apple TV. I've gone to settings, Bluetooth on Apple TV, placed the Auvio in close proximity, but the AppleTV keeps searching without success. The Auvio pairs easily with my iPhone and iPad, and I've turned those connections off while trying to pair it with the TV.Any suggestions?

On my MacPro, I am using a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse, but the range is only about 4 or 5 feet. I want to sit on my couch and work (about 10 feet away) but the mouse and keyboard is slow or disconnects.. Is there a way to extend the range? Would super new batteries help? or is it in the MacPro that is not reaching out? Thank You.
For some reason my first post never appeared. Take Two.
Do this. it was the best $2.40 I ever spent for a cable.

I had some extra wireless routers and was able to use the antenna from an old D-link,
I now have great BT. and my magic mouse runs great. I did a test and I get BT up to two rooms over. over 60 ft. -
Can I use an airport extender to wire into a Bluetooth dvr?
Can I use an airport extender to wire into a Bluetooth dvr?
Potentially yes. For example, you can configure an 802.11n AirPort Express as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this mode, the Express would connect to an existing Wi-Fi network and its LAN port would be available to wired clients for network/Internet access.

HT1310 How do I extend the delay to support Bluetooth keyboard use?
When using the startup manager (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310) and a BT keyboard, the keyboard never associates fast enough to catch the Option key (if it makes a difference, I run my mac with full disk encryption). How can I extend the window of opportunity for the option key?
I should probably be a bit more clear
When the machine boots, and I hold down the option key, it will fail - straight to the full disk encryption password dialogue box. If at this point I restart the Mac, the option key will work the second time and allow me to select e.g. my Boot Camp Windows partition.
My theory is that both of these events occur somewhere before OS X is loaded, and that the BlueTooth keyboard and mouse are visible by the smart boot / openboot system. Some of this must be true because I can use the keyboard and mouse within the smart boot menu to select which boot option to use.
What seems to be happening is that the BlueTooth pairing event is taking longer than the 2 nanoseconds that the system waits for keyboard input before trying to load the default operating system.
What I'm trying to work out is whether the boot can be delayed in some way to allow for the BlueTooth pairing to occur at the boot menu level and the option key to be pressed. We know that this does occur the second time around, so it's simply a matter of time, and would make the whole boot system that much less painful.
In the meantime, I'm going to much around with something called Boot Champ, which seems a bit of a hack but hey, if it works, right? -
GetConnectionURL returns null in Bluetooth Application
Hi,
I am trying to make my first steps with the JSR-82 API on mobile phones
(Nokia 6680 and Sony Ericsson W800i). I have written a simple program
(see code below), which is supposed to discover near-by devices, search
for a given service (UUID) on a chosen (previously discovered) device
(=server) and then to connect to the server and send a byte (n) to it. The
server should then in turn send n+1 back. All this should be done using
RFCOMM.
The code works fine in the emulator as well as on two Nokia phones and
on two SE phones. It further works, when using a Nokia phone as the
server and a SE phone as the client. However, when using a SE as the
client and a Nokia as the server, the call to getConnectionURL() returns
null instead of a valid URL that can be used to set up the connection
(you can find this piece of code in the ClientThread class). Can somebody
explain me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Michael
P.S.:At first I thought it might be a compatibility problem, but in the
BluetoothDemo program that comes with WTK2.2 the correct URL ist
returned by getConnectionURL() (have other problems with this example
though, when it comes to download images, in particular...).

Optical drive, camera and bluetooth problems with Acer Aspire 7520
Hello everyone
First, my DVD drive just stopped working, it's not being recognized by Arch it seems. This has happened before a few times, but it suddenly started to work. I can open the tray manually, and when I insert a DVD, you can see the led blinking and drive does start to spin, but thats all. I've tried removing and reloading cdrom module with no success. Also, there was a /dev/sr0 before, now it's gone.
Here is the output from dmesg:

Now, the camera issue is a bit different. It worked before with no problems. But now, when I start guvcview, it opens it's main window, and a second window that usually show picture from camera, just appears for a moment and disappears. The led next to my camera turns on, and stays that way. Also, yesterday when I was trying to test the camera, guvcview stuck in a uninteruptible state, so I couldn't kill him in any way. Even after I close guvcview, the camera led is still on, but he is not among active processes. Although in the guvcview output below it says that the device is in use, I don't know how, because I rebooted my laptop and then I tried to run it.
This is what guvcview outputs in console after I start and then close it:

For the bluetooth, I really never managed to get it working. The bluetooth daemons starts with no problems, but hcitool dev shows no devices. I read the wiki, and the only thing I didn't try is the hid2hci tool, I couldn't figure out what to use for devpath argument.

Bluetooth soft blocked, wont unblock
Hello,
my laptop's bluetooth adapter is not working due to the hci0 interface being soft blocked.
Unblocking with
# rfkill unblock all
doesn't have any effect at all - 'rfkill list' still shows
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
No matter what I do, the device just won't unblock. The adapter has been working fine in an earlier installation of Arch.
Howewer, if i boot into emergency mode using the option 'systemctl.unit=emergency.target' on the kernel command line and then load my bluetooth and wifi modules manually, both devices appear unblocked and hciconfig shows the correct info for my adapter. If i then change into a higher "runlevel" in systemd, the graphical ui starts and hci0 is irrevocably soft blocked again.
How do I proceed? How can I find out which kernel modules and/or pieces of software in my boot process block the bluetooth device?
The laptop is a quite dated ASUS F3JC with a BT-183 bluetooth adapter connected via usb.

Many thanksOK, so I think this is pretty much solved, or at least a workaround:
I use E17 (or E18 now I guess), and using econmann GUI I can enable bluetooth! rfkill list now results in
$ rfkill list
0: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: asus-bluetooth: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
2: phy0: Wireless LAN

3: hci0: Bluetooth

It would be interesting to know why rfkill wasn't able to power the bluetooth on, yet econnman was. Any ideas? -
IMac G5 bluetooth + airport + power supply problems - oh and the dvd drive
Yeah, seems like a lot is going wrong with my mac lately. I bought the iMac G5(no isight) model last year around july. I had some power issues (i.e. leaving the house with it turned on to come home and find it off) For the last year though that was all that was wrong. Once I had to reinstall OS X because it would not find the OS X harddrive during one of these power losses, but that was it.
Then about two weeks ago, I came home to a turned off iMac. I thought the power had gone out in my apartment, but the clocks were all right, and to my surprise the iMac would not turned on. Because I am not under warranty I searched online and found an extended exchange program for my emc model. (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/) I made an appt at the apple store and they replaced the power supply.
I got the machine back two nights ago and my bluetooth hardware wasn't recognized. And I now had a new "ink" system preference panel in the hardware section which aparently is some sort of handwriting recognition tablet. It ticked me off, but I just wanted to use my computer.
Well today I came home from work and my computer was acting funny. Everywhere I clicked brought up dashboard. This had never happened before and I had no choice but to force a shutdown. Powered it back up and poof, there goes my airport card. No hardware recognized. Now I have a 25 ft cable running the floor of my apartment. This was cause enough to call apple. I was told to make another apointment to bring the computer in. The guy made it sound like it was no big deal to lug a 30 lb bulky computer 40 miles and through a crowded mall. He also made no promises that the repairs would be covered under the exchange program.
I just wanted to hear any suggestions before I decide whether or not its worth it to bring in the computer. Nothing shows up in system profiler under bluetooth or airport. Should I just lie to the "genius" and tell them that my computer still shuts down randomly? I think that way they would at least replace the logic board (which I think is the problem) before telling me to sell my kidney and pay for repairs. I've tried reseting the SMU, and I looked at the bluetooth and airport cards to see if they had been accidently disconnected during the PS replacement. They are actually screwed into the logic board so I think their connections are efficient.
Oh and about the DVD drive. I have to use two cd's in order to burn a single disc. The first disc I put in the drive NEVER works. It spins for about 30 seconds then starts buzzing like blender and spits the cd back out. The second blank disc I put in USUALLY works, but sometimes it takes three discs. This problem has always been there since day 1, but I don't burn enough cd's for it to be an issue.
Thank you for listening to my gripes. I really don't think I'll make the mistake of buying the first issue of a model.
iBook G4 900mghz, iMac G5 20" 2.0 ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8)OK, first thing -to restore your bluetooth, shut down, unplug for a few minutes and then reboot. Thay usually brings the BT back. You should also repair permissions. Reset your SMU nd your PRAM as well.
Try those four things and please post back,

Question about bluetooth communication between PC and mobile device
I am a newbie of bluetooth communication. This time I need to have connumication between PC and mobile device (mainly mobile phone) by sending strings. PC is acted as server and mobile device act as client.
For using bluetooth in PC, I use bluecove 2.0.1
I have already connected them successfully.
When I want to send strings between them, it is found that it can only do one cycle of communication (client -> server -> client).
For my design, they can communicate multiple times.
I simulate the core class of the system, the performance is fine.
Cound anyone help me to watch the code and give me some advices?

}i haven't worked with devices but only with the toolkit emulators;
it definitely is possible...
u have to send the image as a bytestream and receive the image at the jsp end...
and then reconstruct the image.
the Stream classes in J2ME AND J2SE are all u will require.
also the Image class.
i have not done this but i have successfully sent an image frm a jsp and displayed it on the emulator. -
Bluetooth with os 10.8.5 not working
After updating the system the bluetooth is unresponsive. In the preferences "on" and "discoverable" are checked. I cannot uncheck either of these boxes. What aroused my concern was that my track pad was listed as not connected but the basic functions (pointing, clicking, dragging) worked while the extended multi-finger functions (two finger scrolling, swiping, etc.) did not. At this point, the track pad is no longer working at all. I have reset pRAM, unplugged USB devices, unplugged power, all to no avail. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
SteveBluetooth Assitant has now found the Trackpad but will not pair with it. I have switched the pad on and off numerous times, clicking "Continue" while pad light is blinking, only to get message that pairing was unsuccessful and that I should make sure I am in range of computer ( I think 2 feet is in range) and that the device is turned on and discoverable (blinking green light). Frustrating. Worked great until I did the last OS update.
What is also weird about this is that I cannot turn Bluetooth on and off in the menu bar or in the preference panel. Though I am now able to check and uncheck the discoverable box in the prefence panel now that I threw out the .plist which I was not able to following the update. Something buggy has occured since the update. -
IMac takes 4 minutes to boot up, bluetooth not available
Hello, this is my first post on Apple Discussions!
The day before yesterday we had quite a vicious storm here and lost power for about a minute. My Mac was switched on when the power cut out, but I was downstairs, having some lunch. Unfortunately, I have no surge protection on my power bar / extension cord thing (I know...). I immediately unplugged it, only turning it back on after the storm had calmed down.
Thinking nothing of it, I powered on my Mac and left it unattended for about 10 minutes (so I don't know how long it took to boot up!). When I came back, I was greeted by the login screen and proceeded as usual. However, the next time I powered on my computer, I could not get past the white screen after the chime (no Apple logo). Now, this has happened to me before, so I waited a couple of minutes. Nothing. I decided to power it down (holding down the power button) and try rebooting it, this time holding down the option key (to bring up the partitions), as this has helped me in the past. White screen for a couple of minutes. Impatient and annoyed, I powered it down again. Rebooted holding down the shift key, for Safe Mode. Nothing again. This time I left it on the white screen while I looked for an old USB keyboard, thinking my wireless keyboard might not have been pairing. Little did I know I would have to use this sh***y keyboard from this point forward.
So, I got my keyboard (remember I had left my Mac on the white screen) and when I returned I was pleasantly surprised to see the login screen. I noticed, however, that I could not use my wireless keyboard (I have a wired Razer mouse). So I plugged in the old PC keyboard I found, and logged in. Which is when I noticed the Bluetooth icon was strange; it was greyed out and had a jagged line through it, and when I clicked on it, said "Bluetooth: Not Available".
I restarted my Mac, just to see if the issues would be fixed. Nope. It took about four minutes to start up, and no Bluetooth. I checked the System Preferences and it says there is "No Bluetooth Hardware Found". "No information found" in System Information either.
The problem is that during the white screen on bootup (I always hear the chime btw), I have no control. I cannot enter Safe Mode, see the partitions, reset the NVRAM or PRAM. I just have to wait until I see the Apple logo after about four minutes. After login, everything (bar Bluetooth) seems fine. I have verified disk, and it says it's fine. Verified and repaired permissions as well. I looked and noticed that I have no com.apple.bluetooth.plist file in my library.
I don't know what to do from here! My extended Apple Care has expired Should I install Mavericks? Could that fix my problems? Or should I clean install ML, and then install Mavericks? But if the storm did do some damage, the issue is probably hardware... Please help me.
Thanks, and sorry for the length
PS. I have been having a little trouble with my finder since a while now (months). Sometimes, when I open a folder the CPU will shoot up to 100% and the Mac would freeze for a couple of seconds. Then it would be normal again. I have used up about 1.5 TB (including a Bootcamp partition) from my 2TB HDD. I doubt this is related, but I though I'd throw it in anyway. Again, I apologise for the length.Installing a new OS X over a problematic one will get you a new problematic OS X.
I suggest you run repair disk first. Then I would reset the SMC.
I "think" that some of your problems stem from the power problem you described. No surge protector is akin to (fill in the negative outcome blank). The lecture ends here.
IMHO, you have some hardware problem(s). I suggest you take the computer to an Apple store for diagnosis. Be sure to bring your documentation of the things above along.
