Buddies show as offline

My buddies showing as offline when they are actually online and their status is available. their computers in iChat show that I am also offline. what are we doing wrong?

There are several possibles on this.
1) In iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security tab (For AIM based logins) you can set who can "See" you.
If you have Allow Buddy List Only or Allow Specific people other people will not see you as On-line. As a Consequence of this you will not see them as On line either.
2) Is the reverse of this. Your Buddy either has not added you to their Buddy List and has the same settings or you have not added them.
3) Any form of Mispelling.
This includes Typos...
... but mainly about Adding @Mac.com Buddies as MobileMe (@me.com Buddies) This is less common in iChat 5 as you have to type the name in Full. In iChat 4 and Earlier you had to Chose the "Type" of Buddy that they are.
AIM Buddies (Those registered with AIM directly) rarely need anything after an @ symbol although it is possible to register an Email Address as a Scree Name.
4) Adding Jabber Buddies to An AIM based List or AIM based names to a Jabber list.
As most Jabber IDS look like email Addresses and the AIM servers allow @mac.com and @me.com as well as other emails it is easy to enter a name (The AIM servers never tell you whether the Name is valid or not as long as it is in the correct format)
As the Jabber servers are non centralised they have no way of knowing if [email protected] is based on a Jabber Server call Mac.com.
5) Sometimes at heavy usage periods the Login servers at AIM are out of Sync an you may not see all your Buddies as On Line.

Hi,
I hope someone can help me. I am running Lion with latest combo update. I used to log in as a .mac address to iChat but friends of mine are saying that the last week or so I have been showing as offline. I can still talk to them on iChat though. I today tried the same name with the .me extension and I show as online. The buddies obvioulsy have to be re added.
A freind of mine has the same issue with his AOL account. I was wondering if this is a Lion update issue? I have deleted the .plist files and such that have been suggested in other posts. It has run on this macbook for years with no issues until the last week or so, not sure exaclty when I was starting to show as offline.

Hi,
This can depend on where your and the name you have are in relation to each other and the end cycle of MobileMe.
I will try to make this clear.
Any @mac.com name will work in iChat as a Valid AIM Screen Name (Original Trial account, Paid for account or Lasped account)
AT the launch of MobileMe any @mac.com could be linked to the new @me.com name that you were given if you had a Paid for account.
For Mail Purposes the names were/are interchangeable but for Logging into AIM they are two different names.
(they were/are linked for Apple ID purposes using the same Password and being able to acces the same Apple areas (iTunes, Apple Discussions etc.) )
Since June 2011 MobileMe has been in a sort of run-down mode.
Some of the services have already disappeared but the final Paid For accounts will run out in June this year (2012 for late readers)
People are being encouraged to set up iCloud Names (which also end @me.com)
These can be linking other Apple IDs (non @mac.com and @me.com names) to the new iCloud Issued @me.com name.
So...
Adding an @me.com name to iChat is in fact adding new Screen Name (it will have no Buddies until you add them)
I have noticed myself that older @mac.com names I have (I have set up trial accounts in the past) show up in iChat as MobileMe IDs.
It is the same in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars

The Orange arrow and text shows wrong icon for an @mac.com account
The Red shows a Jabber account identified as a MobileMe account.
For some reason the Green has a misnamed account (it read @me.com in the details when it is in fac an @mac.com name)
Deleting the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist should get ichat to refresh the Login to AIM when you restart iChat (it is this action that recreeates the .plist).
This in turn shoould change the Status setting as iChat then defaults to being "Available".
One reason that this might not happen is s second Login.
Second computer, same iChat/AIM details.
Different Mac User account on your Computer using the same AIM/iChat Account details.
Different App on your computer.
Logging in via AIM Express or AIM AV on line in any browser on Computer or phone.
(once this is done, leaving the page will not log you out and a default Login period takes over - it is 2 weeks !!)

Everyone shows as offline?

My iChat started doing this yesterday - I login, and it shows all buddies as being offline. I'm using an AIM screen name to login.
If I use my .Mac screen name, I don't have this problem. Only with the AIM one..
I've quit iChat, restarted, switched between accounts, nothing helps. There's a doc on the support site about this and it says to go into Preferences > Privacy > and change to "Allow anyone"... but this doesn't work. It says if that doesn't work, to go do it in AIM Express. It doesn't work after that, either.
I'm also having the error where it randomly logs me out, logs me in, logs me out, and repeats this about ten times within a few seconds, then an error message occurs: "You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time". I noticed someone else posted a topic about this not too long ago, and they said this only happened once they got a Netgear router... well, we just got one a few days ago.
Lastly - even when iChat shows me as disconnected.. people can send me chats and we can carry on a conversation! I have no idea what to do.

Go to the Security tab and check they are not all listed in the Block list.
If on the off chance you think the Buddies you set up for the @mac name will be shown in the new AIM Name they will not be.
You can use the AIM for Mac, Export ad Import feature for that.

Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box.

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

I have a pc running windows 7. I got an Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi and the printer is now plugged into the Airport. The wireless router works fine but the printer shows as offline in control panel and in word. The printer is a HP LaserJet CP1525nw.

This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
*Settings I have Enabled*
5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

I am trying to network my hp deskjet 6940 printer via a new win 7 64 pc. The printer is visible but shows as "offline" and will not respond.
Can the hp deskjet 6940 printer operate over a lan using a win 7 64 pc?

Since the site says the driver is already in Windows 7, then a different method of adding the printer will need to be performed to get the driver from Windows Update.
First, uninstall the printer from the Windows 7 system.
1. go to devices and printers and select Add Printer at the top.
2. Select Add a local printer.
3. Create a new port with port type Local Port.
4. The port name will indicate where the printer is located. The format will be \\<computer name>\<printer share name>. Leave out the < > symbols. For me, this would be \\mycomputer\printer.
5. The next screen will show a list of various printers. Click the Windows Update button to update the list to the most current.
6. Select your model printer from the list.
The rest of the prompts should continue from there without any issue. I do not have a photosmart 7760 to get the rest of the prompts from there, but it should work after these steps are completed on the Windows 7 system.
If the printer was added using the network option, then it won't work on Windows 7 and there won't be an option for the driver since a network driver doesn't really exist for the printer since it is not natively networked.
Selecting the network option is usually selected in this process and it appears to not work with printers that are shared from a computer. This process tricks the Windows 7 system into running the printer as if it was actually connected to the printer, but the port name directs it to the host computer.
Let me know what happens.
I did find these steps here in jimbo45's post. I did perform the steps with a different computer and printer successfully, but it should work in this scenario as well.

When iPad is off and not connected to internet, you'll will not be able to track, lock or wipe the iPad.

When you open a project you need to point PPro to the new media location and relink

Hey,
My girlfriends iphone 4 got stolen, as she didnt have the find my iphone feature enabled (my bad) She has since bought a new one and the first thing i did was turn this feature on using my mobleme account. However 90% of the time her phone shows as offline. I have tried restarting the phone, as well as turning on and off airplane mode. As well push notifications are enabled.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solution that im missing?

Messages showing as Offline

Using Mountian Lion on my iMac and my messages keep showing as Offline.
I have opened the messages window and the conversations can be there one minute then suddenly just change to Offline.
I can send messages when it is in this state but no messages arrive.
The only way to resurrect the messages and conversations is to force quit the application and then re-open. Does anybody have any ideas or experience of this?

Launchpad show "server offline", but the server is running

Greetings,
I have a MS-Server 2012 Essential and it work very fine many years.
But now the Launchpad on my client is showing "Server offline"!
I have installed Teamviewer on my server and I can connect from the internet to my server.
Also a ping to my server works fine.
But the Launchpad and the path \\<Server-Name> in the file explorer does not work.
Can you help me, where I can find the error?

Firefox does not have a built-in "Run" option on downloads for security reasons. If you "Run" an item, your anti-virus/anti-spyware may not have an opportunity to fully examine the contents until it is already installed on your hard drive. Result: damage, if infected, is already installed on your system.

Gmail smtp showing as (offline) on Mail 7.0

Hi guys,
I am running Mail 10.7 on OS X 10.9 Maverick, on my iMac 21.5"
I have gone through all the steps involved in setting up my primary Gmail account on Apple Mail. It was working fine for 1-day, and then on the next day, I could receive messages but could no longer send messages. They just sat in my Outbox and the smtp.gmail.com just showed as offline.
So I tried setting up the SAME Gmail account on my MacBook – and no problems there, it works fine.
I have tried a) checking the permissions via the Disk Uility, b) deleting the password from my Keychain Access and c) reinstalling OS X 10.9 – and nothing has helped.
Is anyone having the same problem, and found a solution?

Select Edit SMTP server list from the popup.
Select your account. Click on the Advanced at and enter your password. Check in Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar to see if you get green lights for SMTP setting for the account.
It's not uncommon to find extra SMTP servers listed. When you remove account, Mail does not delete. You might need to do some clean up.
Gmail seems to work best in Mavericks is you delete and start clean. See
