Buffer overrun in IE and Firefox

Can't see any mov in browser from trailers.apple.com (or other web sites). Received error buffer overrun. I've reinstalled QT 7.2, 7.1 the same. Do you have any ideas?

William
I have run into the same problem - Firefox and IE under Windows tend to place the snippets higher up the page - sometimes blocking text in the blog.
The "solution" that I have found is to insert a shape that is about 1/3 bigger than the snippet. Then, I position the snippet in the lower 2/3's of the shape. You can see this in some of my entries on my website: http://www.kilayko.com

  • Duplicated images and buffer overrun detected.

I Have a problem that after moving some images around and adding a backup drive to my system, 3.2 now has 3 copies of all my images resulting in nearly 18000 images. when I try to use the program it starts ok but as soon as you try to scroll down a page of images or jump back on the calender it crashes with a buffer overrun C++ error and closes. very frustrating!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times but my catalog with the multiple images is still there. how do I delete the entire catalog so I can point it to the one source file I want??
    Thanks
    Richard.

    Hi again Richard,
Then this will be relatively painfree for you. The computer might have
to do a bit of work but that's okay :)
Uninstall the application as you would any other application and then
delete the catalog. This won't affect the images because it is merely a
database indexing the location of your images.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter
    Edition\3.2\Shared_Assets\database\odbc
If you want you can just delete the folder with the Photoshop Album
Starter Edition files, but do this AFTER you have uninstalled the
    application.
Reinstall now and it should recreate the catalog. Of course you will
need to have it find all of your images again, but you'll notice that
you will be back to 6,000 rather than 18,000 images that you when this
    started.
    Cheers

  • Quicktime and itunes will not open - buffer overrun in quicktime

I cannot open Itunes. It says it needs quicktime. quicktime will not open. says buffer overrun. reinstalled both itunes and quicktime. both used to run prior to updates. Help.

Quicktime was working on my Vista computer up until a short time ago. I believe one of the Microsoft updates crippled it. I have looked at several forums and read the other threads on this site and from what others have described I really believe now that Microsoft did this with one of their updates. There are many problems with Vista all due to Microsoft trying to force developers to use only their products. Unfortunately they are squeezing us customers really hard.

  • Tunes7 error and Quick time Buffer overrun

itunes doesn't want to launch. In the beginning it stopped after accepting the license and then closed down with this error: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I was reading about similar problem and somebody advised there to try to open Quick Time P. That person had no problem to lunch Quick Time but I do have it. When I try to do it, the program closes down with the message: Buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs’ internal state…maybe it’s because I’m international but I have no idea what does it mean.

that sounds like a broken QuickTime to me. that would cause the itunes launch message that you're getting.
first head into your Add/Remove Programs, and try to uninstall your existing QuickTime.
if Add/Remove won't let you remove QuickTime, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, we'll try to slip a fresh quicktime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
go into Add/Remove, select itunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly this time?

  • Buffer Overrun Detected with Windows XP

I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime. It looks like everything installed correctly with Qickttime, but I get a "Buffer Overrun Detected!" error window when I try to open it, and it sometimes causes Firefox and/or Internet Explorer to crash. Any ideas?
I have tryed Uninstalling it then reinstalling it but that dosen't seem to help. I also have installed a buffershield but that dosen't seem to make a diffrence either.

Bumping, I am having the same issues; however, it is just even trying to open quicktime. I am now having issues with itunes due to this. I am not able to uninstall it either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Buffer Overrun Detected! C:\Program Files\blahlblahblah

Every time I exit Quicktime after playing a *.mov file or anything else I get this:
    http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f291/Lawnmower233/QuicktimeBufferOverrun.jpg
The Firefox Quicktime plug-in works fine. It doesn't crash anything and I don't get this error with it.
This only started on my new pc. My old HP Pavilon with Windows XP Home Edition SP2 never got this when using Quicktime. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

    you can try this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5533686#5533686
Quicktime.exe rewrites permission to this key.
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime\Recent Movies
When another user logs in and launches QT, that key's permission is changed. So when the original nonadmin user tries to launch/close QT, they will get the Buffer Overrun error. Delete that key. It'll get recreated on the next launch.
What I did was I gave everyone Full Control to this key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime
The error above does not appear for Quicktime 7.1.3
If you are the only user for this PC, then I'm not sure what the cause is. Did your old HP PC also have Quicktime 7.2?

  • Buffer overrun is about to get run over

Are you receiving the now infamous buffer overrun issues when viewing videos with QuickTime?
I am, too. I am sick of it. I am even more sick of Apple's failure to address the issue. This has to be the most common problem posted in the forums, yet the QuickTime support site returns zero results for a search for buffer overrun.
That is going to change. I am a software engineer and I solve these sorts of problems for a living. I need QuickTime to work. I am going to use the resources at my disposal and do my best to determine what the problem is since Apple is apparently incapable of doing such.
You can help. I am looking for data to help identify what the source(s) of the problem may be.
IF you are one of the unfortunate souls that receives the "Buffer overrun detected!" issue while watching videos in QuickTime, please provide your data as a response to this posting to aid in my research. I know this is a lot of work, but if you are as frustrated as I am, won't it be worth the hope of a solution?

  • Quicktime 7.2 - Buffer overrun detected!

The quicktime player 7.2 often crashes down, when i play a quicktime panorama-movie. An error alert appears:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Buffer overrun detected. Program: C:\Programme\Quicktime\QuicktimePlayer.exe. A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
Firefox plugin falls exactly the same. With the last version 7.1.6.200 i had no problems like this one.
The panorama-movie can be viewed at:
    http://mia-net.gotdns.org/bianca.html
    (the last one)
or directly (attention, large file 7,05 MB):
    http://mia-net.gotdns.org/movies/panorama4-gr.mov

That's my excact problem, only I don't have the pro version.

  • Buffer Overrun detected - Microsoft Visual  C++ Runtime Library

My computer, an HP 3400+ with XP home edition has been running fine. I decided I want to watch movie trailers in HD from Yahoo Movies web site and it says I need to upgrade to Quicktime 7 in order to run it. Now it works fine on my laptop so I know it works. I click the "Download Quicktime 7 to view HD" button and go through the process. It goes fine. I reboot and try to run Quicktime and I get this message.
"Buffer Overrun detected - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Program Quicktime Player."
On Explorer and Firefox it still has not recognized that I downloaded the new Quicktime 7.
I am able to right click the Quicktime icon and go to the preference but I can't run the program. I even ran the install and did the repair button but no luck. I find no answers on the net.
    Any ideas?

You will find help on this site: http://pabsungenis.livejournal.com/94683.html
I did ... well it didn't get as complicated as there since in my case the QT installer worked and fixed the problem.

  • MHT files cannot be sent using Eudora email - buffer overrun error

Previous Firefox versions allowed quick email forwarding of website url addresses. The current version defaults to generating an MHT file and when Eudora 7.1 is selected as the email preference, the following error message appears:
    " Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files(x86)\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."
It would be much easier just to continue email forwarding of the website url address

hello wmsharpe, there should still be an "email link" option that you can place on your menu/toolbar once you go into the firefox customizing mode: [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]]

  • Clean install v4 - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Lib "buffer overrun detected" error

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library "buffer underrun detected" has only started to occur after installing v4.
i realise plugins etc. might be out of date so i clean installed[no bookmarks, no preferences, install directory cleared etc.] same deal.
firefox does not "Crash" in the traditonal sense (ie. "not responding" generic Microsoft window appears and u must select to close process... this... is different. i get the dialog box about the buffer overrun (and can quite happily continue to stream video/audio from the site i am on, until i click "ok" on the error and firefox craps itself... also at the point of crash and dialog box appearance i can no longer access new webpages- and the process stays in the list of active processes after clicking OK and must be killed before it can be relaunched... )
p.s. of the two types of crash i have experienced thus far, the buffer overrun is FAR more prevalent.

A buffer overrun appears usually, when adding more information to a buffer than it was designed to hold,
Please restrt your system in safe mode do a scan, check for disk consistency..

  • Issue with running QuickTime Windows.  Buffer Overrun Error - C++ Library .

Initial problem was Buffer Overrun Error (C++ Library) when clicking on QuickTime after installation. IE. QT would not even open. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831875#appliesto
    I took these steps:
    1. Tried to uninstall QuickTime by itself (it failed).
    2.
    3. Manually deleted apple, itunes and quicktime from the entire system (where ever it let me).
    4.
    5. Manually took out from the registration the apple stuff.
    6.
    7. Left the items in the recycle bin (in case there were any real issues and I needed something restored).
    8.
    9. Performed a registration cure (RegCure).
    10.
    11. Took off my entire Anti Virus.
    12.
    13. Dropped down separately the QuickTime and separately the iTunes on desktop.
    14.
    15. Tried to install QuickTime from one of the two saved files on my desktop, but encountered a serious fault
    16.
    17. It needed the QuickTime Installer to remove QuickTime itself, else it crapped out and nothing happened. This complained for a QuickTime.msi file which was a problem.
    18.
    19. Went to the recycle bin and restored only components which were marked QuickTime Installer.
Removed the QuickTime instead of Repair.
Went to the website and Installed QuickTime 7 directly.
It opened on the desktop after installation.
Installed iTunes separately from the desktop and it opened directly.
    Rebooted my pc.
    Enabled all my Security (McAFee).
Opened one by one the QuickTime and Then the iTunes.
Created a computer restore point with a narrative for the future.
This was a very difficult task and required a lot of steps. I am glad you helped me with the removing part. Its great to have everything working again on my pc.
I hope this was helpful - it took me ageges to fix.

I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. Matter of fact, it's the first time in years that I've run across this kind of 'problem' when using non-beta software from a major player. Too bad. This really reflects poorly on Apple's credibility.

  • Buffer Overrun in iTunes 6.0.3.5

I'm sure many of you have been getting this error, but there is a buffer overrun error when I try and watch any newer movies in either iTunes, Quicktime, or on my iPod (.m4v). The iPod simply freaks out and I have to reset it, while iTunes says that it has encountered an error and needs to shut down. Quicktime gives a more specific error saying:
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Quicktime\QuickTimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
i'm sure this vulnerability is being worked on already, I just wanted to see if anyone else is having the same problem.

Yes, same problem here with iTunes 6.0.4 and the Quicktime bundled with it. Both programs encounter a buffer overrun at the same moment in a "Desperate Housewives" purchased video.
Will try to play it on my home computer tonight. If I can't watch the last 12 minutes of the show I'm going to be upset I paid $1.99 for it.
