Buffer Overruns

Heyas, My company primarilly uses Linksys WRT54G wireless routers for our customers. However these devices require requent power cycling on our network, it seems that the problem lies with the buffers for said routers being over run by barrages of packets. Has linksys made a firmware update to fix this problem? If not is there another linksys solution with buffer overrun protection? Pls PM me if you have alternatives. Or post the solution here. Thanks!

Ok so now I have compiled jack from the git source, without dbus and this gets rid of the dbus error. I still have the errors with allocating memory and realtime though:

As mentioned above my user is a member of the audio group and the limits are set in /etc/security/limits.d.conf/99-audio.conf so why can't jack use these settings when run as a systemd service?

Initial problem was Buffer Overrun Error (C++ Library) when clicking on QuickTime after installation. IE. QT would not even open. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831875#appliesto
    I took these steps:
    1. Tried to uninstall QuickTime by itself (it failed).

    3. Manually deleted apple, itunes and quicktime from the entire system (where ever it let me).
    4.

    17. It needed the QuickTime Installer to remove QuickTime itself, else it crapped out and nothing happened. This complained for a QuickTime.msi file which was a problem.

It opened on the desktop after installation.
Installed iTunes separately from the desktop and it opened directly.

Opened one by one the QuickTime and Then the iTunes.
Created a computer restore point with a narrative for the future.
This was a very difficult task and required a lot of steps. I am glad you helped me with the removing part. Its great to have everything working again on my pc.
I hope this was helpful - it took me ageges to fix.

I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. Matter of fact, it's the first time in years that I've run across this kind of 'problem' when using non-beta software from a major player. Too bad. This really reflects poorly on Apple's credibility.

  • Buffer Overrun in iTunes 6.0.3.5

I'm sure many of you have been getting this error, but there is a buffer overrun error when I try and watch any newer movies in either iTunes, Quicktime, or on my iPod (.m4v). The iPod simply freaks out and I have to reset it, while iTunes says that it has encountered an error and needs to shut down. Quicktime gives a more specific error saying:
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Quicktime\QuickTimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
i'm sure this vulnerability is being worked on already, I just wanted to see if anyone else is having the same problem.

Yes, same problem here with iTunes 6.0.4 and the Quicktime bundled with it. Both programs encounter a buffer overrun at the same moment in a "Desperate Housewives" purchased video.
Will try to play it on my home computer tonight. If I can't watch the last 12 minutes of the show I'm going to be upset I paid $1.99 for it.

  • Quicktime Buffer overrun in WIndows XP!

    Hi.
I have a problem with Quicktime (7.3). When I try to run the program I have the following error message:
    +"Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtime Library+
    +Program C:\....\quicktimeplayer.exe+
+A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrpted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated"+
It happened suddenly without installing anything. I've tryed uninstalling and installing again but the error still showing.
iTunes doesn't run either. By the way, iTunes doesn't show any error message, it just doen't run.
    Any help will be welcome.
    Thanks!
P.S. My OS is WinXP, not crap Vista.

Here is a Macrumors article about Quicktime buffer overflows. The problem described may or may not be the one you are experiencing, and note the name of the site: MacRUMORS.

  • Quicktime 7.2 MS Visual C++ Runtime Library Error "Buffer Overrun Detected"

HIGHLY DISSATISFIED just shelled out the $30 for Quicktime PRO and I can't use it.
Please help when I attempt to run .mov files captured by my digital camera it begins to pixelate badly only a few seconds in and then stops completely and crashes giving me the error message "Buffer Overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated." The files play normally when other programs w/ .mov codecs installed are used such as Nero, WMP, etc. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate (64bit) with a 1.8 ghz AMD Turion processor, 2GB ram, NVidia graphics. I'm guessing some sort of issue with Windows Vista security and Apple's refusal to be compatible with it -- but I'm no expert.

I'm considering upgrading to Vista. I'd like to see at least an "I don't know why our product is working" response to this question, please.

  • Quick Time (Audio Preferences) fails to launch with buffer overrun error

It all started a few weeks ago, after installing itunes7.0 for windows, and itunes began to annoy me (indeed drive me mad) with an error message :
"an unhandled win32 exception has occured in itunes.exe [3840]" at startup / closing immediately afterwards.
After numerous uninstall/reinstall/clean the registry/system restore attempts I managed to solve the issue-- BUT only for a few days..It failed again and so I went through the itunes support forums even found an entry
"iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes fails to launch with an unknown error"
which suggests that my issue could be solved by :
"Open the QuickTime control panel and select the Audio tab.
In the Devices section de-select the Safe mode (waveOut only) option and click Apply."
But to my surprise, when i selected the Audio tab (and the Audio tab ONLY ) it presented me a "buffer overrun error" which indicated that the internal state of the program has been corrupt and it would be shutting down now..
    It's such a nuisance..!!
Please, help, and your help will be deeply appreciated... !
I have tried to revert to the older version and it didn't work..

let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime one more time. we'll take a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Buffer Overrun Detected! C:\Program Files\blahlblahblah

Every time I exit Quicktime after playing a *.mov file or anything else I get this:
    http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f291/Lawnmower233/QuicktimeBufferOverrun.jpg
The Firefox Quicktime plug-in works fine. It doesn't crash anything and I don't get this error with it.
This only started on my new pc. My old HP Pavilon with Windows XP Home Edition SP2 never got this when using Quicktime. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

    you can try this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5533686#5533686
Quicktime.exe rewrites permission to this key.
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime\Recent Movies
When another user logs in and launches QT, that key's permission is changed. So when the original nonadmin user tries to launch/close QT, they will get the Buffer Overrun error. Delete that key. It'll get recreated on the next launch.
What I did was I gave everyone Full Control to this key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime
The error above does not appear for Quicktime 7.1.3
If you are the only user for this PC, then I'm not sure what the cause is. Did your old HP PC also have Quicktime 7.2?

  • Quicktime problem "buffer overrun detected!"???

sorry if thas has been posted a billion times recently, but i seriously am not that good with computers and can't seem to find a place for help with this. was hoping you guys here could at least point me in the right direction. Also, like i just said, I am not very handy when it comes to computers, so try to keep it plain and simple...
with that being said, I have encountered this problem with quicktime recently, which in turn has caused itunes to not work either. i've tried searching for a fix for days now and have been unsecessful finding anything so far. I heard it has something to do with the new quicktime update not cooperating with some service pack update... im not sure
I tried to delete quicktime but couldn't, now when i try to open quicktime... I get an error message reading :
    Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library
    Buffer overrun dtected!
    program C:\programfiles\quicktime\quicktimeplayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
thanks for any help in advance
    vaio RA710g Windows ME
    sony RA710g Windows ME

I had the exact problem, after I tried updating to the latest version of itune. Now my itune don't work. There are no graphics and no sound. When I open Quicktime it has the exact message "buffer overrun detected...The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated."
I tried removing the quicktime program, restoring the computer to earlier dates, disabling my antivirus program first and downloading itunes on a disc and then updating the program. Nothing Works! I talked to a guy at apple support who said he's not allowed to help me since "quicktime is a free program" then referred me to article "302538" which says to disable some items using the System configuration Utility (msconfig) in windows XP. Tried it and it doesn't work either.
Since this problem is happening to so many people, something is obviously wrong with the itune and quicktime program which is mandatory for my recently purchased $300 Ipod. I've already wasted countless hours trying to resolve this problem with very little support from Apple. Apple needs to address and fix this problem.
Please let me know how to resolve this problem! Thank you!

If i click on the Apple Software Update shortcut the progam updates with no problem.

  • Quicktime buffer overrun error with windows

    Hi
I hope that some one out there can help me!!!! I have tried to install the new version of quicktime 7.4 but it won't install. And everytime that I try to open Quicktime player is gives me an error which reads:
    Buffer overrun detected!
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue exection and must now be terminated.
I have tried to uninstall quicktime and reinstall it several times. I have also used recure to try and fix it. If anyone has any more suggestion other than going to the geek squad I would really appreciate it. I have been trying to fix this for a while. Oh, I did try to go back in the recovery too and that didn't work either.
    Thank YOU

  • Buffer overrun detected in iTunes

When I synchronise photos from my PC to my iPod (5G, 30Gb) I get most of the time the next Error-message in a window named: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtine Library.
The text of the message is:
'Buffer overrun detected. Program: C/Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe.
A buffer overrun has been detected wich can corrupt the program''s internal state. The program cannot safely continue and must now be terminated.'
As a result of this Error-message the program iTunes is terminated and the photo's are not uploaded to my iPod.
Is this problem familiar to you and you know the cause and hopefully a solution, I will appreciate if you will inform me about this. Many thanks.
