Buffer Paramater Settings

Hi Experts,
In our Development and Production systems , we have been Observed that ,
Lot of Swaps at Program Buffer (PXA) Especially Development systems ..
Some times we were experianced Lot of swaps  Export and Import Buffers also
When we saw at ST02 There was less Space at program buffer and export and Import Buffers .. , and also extended meory use is bit high ..
Could you please let me know that . If system is running with more swaps ( in St02) , How can we avoid this Swaps ?
Is there any formula to fine tune buffer parameters  like program buffer, table buffer , Export/Import ,Roll area,HeapMemory to make the system up and running  with good peformance ?
and also Paging area .........?
Thanks & Regards,
Praveen.

Hi,
Do you take any ofline backups of your developement system ??? if yes then is it weekly or monthly ????if it is weekly need not to worry as the buffer gets reset as system gets recycled.and if theres no offline backups then u need to monitor it atleast a month...then plan to tune the buffer.
Swaps is the number (counter) by which old  objects in the buffer is over written by the new objects from database .
i would suggest to monitor the swaps for a certain period

  • I/O Saftey Buffer? what is it s purpose?

and is it related in anyway to recording delay slider below. and what would that be used for?
    thanks

well for #1 no, it doesn't affect slider.
For what it is, the Safety I/O is specified in the Latest Breaking News as:
When activated, Logic Pro uses an additional buffer to process audio output streams.
This provides a safeguard against crackling noises which may occur when using very
low I/O buffer size settings. Essentially, it provides a little more time for the CPU to
finish processing the output buffer data.
However I find that it causes plugins to overload quickly when it's on. Some plugs are very aggressive, and I think they're likely breaking some of the new rules in Logic 8. So I have mine checked off when mixing, when recording it may help.

  • Latency Settings of M-Audio Fast Track USB?

The Windows instructions for the Fast Track mentions buffer size settings that can be changed to find a balance between signal stability and low latency. Is there any way to adjust these settings in OS X 10.3? Currently the latency seems to be around 100ms which is useable but noticeable. It would be nice if it could go lower.

    Michael,
The adjustment is made in the GarageBand preferences. In the "Audio/Midi" pane, set it to optimize for minimal delay.
    Hope that helps.

  • Buffer Size - How low can you go

I was wondering if you guys can exchange some information about your Buffer Size settings in Logic and how much milage you can get out of it.
I upgraded to the new 8-core 2.8GHz MacPro a few weeks a go and thought I would live in 32Sample Buffer Size dreamland until the software developers come out with the next CPU hungry beast. But it looks like that a lot of the current Software Instruments bring down the new Intel Macs already to their knees.
    *This is my setup:*
    MacPro 2.8GHz 8-core, 12GB RAM, OSX 10.5.3, Logic 8.02, Fireface 800
    *This is my Problem:*
If I'm looking at one channel of i.e. Sculpture, then all the 8 cores don't do me any good, because Logic can use only 1 core per channel strip. The additional cores come into place when I'm playing
multiple tracks and Logic spread the CPU workload across those cores. So if I set the Buffer Size to the minimum of 32 Samples, then it comes down to one 2.8GHz processor and if he is powerful enough to process that one Software instrument without clicks and interruptions.
    Sculpture:
Some of the patches are already so demanding that I reach the CPU limit when I play chords of four to eight notes with the 32 Sample Setting. If I add some "heavy" FX Plug-ins like amp modeling then I definitely reach the limit.
    _Trilogy and Atmosphere Wrapper:_
Most of the time I have to increase the buffer size to 128 just to play a few notes. These "workaround wrapper plugins" are a plain joke from Spectrasonics and almost useless. There is plenty of discussion in various forums how they pizzzed off o lot of their customers with the way they handled their Intel transition regarding these two great plugins.
    *Audio Interface Considerations:*
The different vendors of audio interfaces brag about their low latency of their devices. Especially Apogee's Symphony System was supposed to deliver extremely low latency. When they demoed their hardware at various Apple events, they played gazzillions of track and plug-ins and everything was running at 32 Buffer Size. I never saw however a demo where they loaded a gazzillions Sculpture instruments and showed that playing with 32 Buffer Size.
*Here are my basic three questions:*
    1) Anybody experiencing already the same limitations with the new MacPros when it comes to intense Software Instruments
    2) Anybody uses the 3.2GHz machines and has better results, or is it just marginal.
    3) Anybody running the Symphony System and can throw any Software Instruments at it with 32 Buffer Size.
+BTW, the OSX 10.5.3 update fixed the constant popping up of the "System Overload" window, but regarding the CPU load with Software Instruments, I don't see that much of an improvement.+

My system is happy at 32 samples with the FF800... This is on the Jan 8 Core with 6 gig RAM, running X.5.3, Logic 8.0.2.
Plugs include - NI Komplete5 bundle, Waves GOLD, BFD2 (thought this would stump it but it's fine with 2.0.4) Access Virus TI Snow.
Safety IO buffer off and the Buffer set to small.

  • Safety I/O Buffer  ??

Has anyone had even the slightest amount of success with this option?
At a buffer setting of 32 I can just squeak buy playing a project with no overloads. According to the docs, the I/O Safety Buffer should give me some leeway when using lower buffer settings. If I select it, the same project overloads the machine in a matter of seconds.
    pancenter-

If you go into Logic and select "Late Breaking News" from the help menu, it will redirect you to a page that downloads that PDF. I believe it's the same PDF that you could download when you got the 8.0.1 update. On page 10 it talks about the I/O Safety Buffer. Here's a little snippet from that:
"When activated, Logic Pro uses an additional buffer to process audio output streams. This provides a safeguard against crackling noises which may occur when using very low I/O buffer size settings. Essentially, it provides a little more time for the CPU to finish processing the output buffer data"
Personally I have had the same experience with is as described by Pancenter. Whenever I engage it I see a very obvious and sharp drop in performance. I have tried it several times with different projects, just messing around, and it has behaved the same way. In fact, I haven't seen or heard of anyone having positive results using it, and it's become one of those things that posters have started asking about when people are complaining of coreaudio overloads. As in: 'make sure you have the I/O Safety Buffer turned OFF!'

  • Problems with iTunes Version 6

Please forgive me if this is a repeat of any kind. I searched on this issue and received way too many responses (mostly irrelevant!). When I try to launch certain radio stations in Version 6. It is sometimes difficult to even bring th station up. I sometimes have to click a dozen times to launch a station. Also, there is no meta data in the Player Window for may of the stations. I have a friend who has Version 4 and everything works great! The same stations I have trouble launching in Version 6, start right up in his Version 4.Also, meta data in that version 4 works for ALL stations!Does anyone know how to resolve these problems?

    Hi beatlepat,
You might want to experiment with the buffer size settings to improve radio reliability. The settings are in iTunes Preferences -> Advanced tab. Try each of the possible "Streaming buffer" sizes to see if any of them reduce the frequency.
Also, make sure your QuickTime Connection Speed is one setting lower than the rate claimed for your Internet link. This setting is in QuickTime Control Panel, exit iTunes before changing the setting.
    Good luck!

  • Print Parameter setting changes

    Dear all,
Where do we change the global paramater settings - Time of printing - General propertes - from Send to SAP Spooler Only for Now to Print Immediately !!!
User default setting already set to print immediately.
    Regards,

    Hi Cheriyan,
I don't know if there is a global switch, but every user can customize his own default.
Use "System -> User data -> Own data" tab Defaults box "Output Immediately".
This default is used for new spool requests or for the spool values in batch jobs.

  • Radio Rebuffering/Connecting annoyance for active window

I don't know if this has been posted before, but if it hasn't maybe a poll could be created to see how the users think about this.
I enjoy listening to the Radio via iTunes. Originally, before I bought my iPod Shuffle, I used Winamp to play my favorite shoutcast stations. I prefer the iTunes interface and that's why I switched to it.
However, there is one major thing that can be quite frustrating. The iTunes window becomes the active window every time the radio station connection needs to rebuffer.
This is annoying since most of the time I'm working on something in another window and then all of a sudden the iTunes window pops up disrupting my work or activities on the computer. I tried switching the window to the mini player but the fact is that it still activates the iTunes window.
I would definately prefer if iTunes could rebuffer in the background (just like Winamp), instead of interrupting the user each time. Maybe I'm not aware that there is a preference allowing this.
In any case, any help would be much appreciated.

You might want to experiment with the buffer size settings as a way to help reduce the frequency of the rebuffering interupptions. The settings are in iTunes Preferences -> Advanced tab. Try each of the possible "Streaming buffer" sizes to see if any of them reduce the frequency.
It will still pop to the front, but if it happens less often...

  • Logic Pro 8, Kontakt 2.23 & Memory usage

    Hello -
*What type of known memory problems might exist between Logic (Logic 8 in particular) and either Kontakt 2.23 or Kontakt Player 2.23??*
*If there are known memory usage issues, what can be done to help/fix the situation??*
My computer set up is listed below. I have not upgraded to Leopard (but did upgrade to Logic Pro 8). By-in-large, Logic Pro 8 works fine. However, I usually "network" the Logic sequencing projects with Muse Research's Receptor (version B) and/or an aging Dell Precision Workstation 650 using Musiclab's MIDIoverLan CP3. This has proven stable for me. For my most recent project, I decided to see how many instrument plug-ins I can utilize within the Logic Pro 8 program (without benefit of this "network" set-up). For this project, I'm using one instance of MusicLab's RealGuitar and 16 instances of +*Kontakt Player version 2.23*+ for a total of 17 instrumental tracks. The instrument libraries used are Garritan's GPO and JABB. With this many individual (not multi) track instances used, the activity monitor is showing high RAM usage. For some of the instruments, I could not use the KS choices (trumpet, trombone) because the extra RAM caused Logic to crash as I mounted more instruments.
I tried adjusting the DFD. Still, there remained high RAM usage and the occasional crash. For some of the crashes, I either got the endless colored spinning wheel or a message basically stating that there was no memory available for the DFD. I am no expert with the advanced workings of Logic and the DFD associated with the Kontakt plug-ins. But I am surprised that using just 17 instrument tracks with this newer Mac Pro computer (with 5 GBs RAM) is causing problems. Sadly, I am not an expert Apple user to be able to tell whether it's the computer or Logic or Kontakt. I suspect, though, its some kind of issue between Kontakt and Logic.
For my audio, I use MOTU's 2408 MK3. For my midi in-put I use M-Audio's Keystation Pro 88. I do not think either one of these devices are causing the apparent memory problems.
By the way. . . before I purchased my newer MacPro computer, I had a similar instrumental set-up using my aging Dell Precision 650 workstation with 2 GB of RAM using Steinberg's SX 3 program. I used the same GPO and JABB sound libraries. It did "challange" the Dell computer (I had to adjust buffer/latency settings to MOTU's 828 MK2 used with the Dell computer), but the computer didn't crash like what I'm experiencing at present.
I don't mind "networking" my computers together in order to use larger instrumental plug-in tracks. But I would think that given the "power" of my newer MacPro I should be able to handle more than 17 GPO & JABB tracks. Yes? No?
*Given my current computer set-up, how many instrumental tracks (using libraries associated with Kontakt or the Kontakt Player) should I get??*
    Thank you in advance.
    Ted

Sadly, I can chime in with the same basic problem. Namely, that
Kontakt2 seems to leak ram. I've watched the activity monitor show
an increase in ram allocation to logic if i simply LOOK at a kontakt
instance. Just clicking on the instance causes ram to be allocated, and no matter how much I purge samples, I just can't retrieve that ram. Once 2 gigs are sent to logic, crash.
The only solution I've found is to save & restart before it climbs too high. I can then work for an hour or so until the ram overflows again. This is obviously a major bug, and I agree that Logic doesn't appear to be the culprit.
Have either of you tried K3? I wonder if the problem is more under control there? There's no way Kontakt will bother to fix this bug
in v2.23 with v3 on the shelves. The question is, how do we know that v3 fixes it without buying it? I've heard reports that v3 is even
    more bloated than v2.
I've recently done a clean install of leopard on a blank drive, and
i'm patiently waiting until NI updates the installers for K2.
Then, i'll have a clean OS, clean newly installed logic 8, and
a cleanly installed K2. Maybe that will help mitigate, if not solve the problem.
I'm almost sure that Kontakt is the source of the problem, but
I've also been told that Intels have serious flaws in their ram
    allocation WITH TIGER.
Some people with G5's have reported having access to 3.5 gigs ram.
Intells can only use 2 gigs with any one app. This was thought to be a problem with Tiger and and Intels. So maybe Leopard will expand the RAM wallet, and then we just have to wait for Kontakt to stop spending so much.

  • [solved] gdm not showing user list and not recognizing gconf

I installed gdm2setup from aur and ran it as root, and since then gdm will no longer display a user browser to select my user from, I have to manually type in the user name and password to login.
I uninstalled gdm2setup, and then did a force reinstall for gdm (pacman -S --force gdm)
Then I rebooted, and as I mentioned, the user browser does not display.
I edited /etc/gdm/custom.conf so that it shows:
    [greeter]
    Browser=1
    ...but still no luck.
I made sure that gconf says that disable_user_list is not true, and it isn't.

  • Two sessions with GT 430

I want to start off by saying that I am LOVING Arch! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful distro!
I am currently trying to get my machine setup so I have two separate sessions, one to my monitor and wired keyboard/mouse, and the other to my HDMI output and wireless keyboards and mice. I have had some success, but am running into a little problem. Right now my wireless keyboards are still feeding to my monitor's session, and I am not seeing any video to my HDMI.

  • Clicks with spdif audio recording

    Let's go with my problem:
While recording from my spdif input to audio track in logic i can hear clicks. These clicks are more frequent as lower is the core audio buffer. I can deduce where around is the problem, but how to solve it? (I'm sure my usual buffer size settings are enough, 64 samples buffer works great with many exs instruments, large cpu load and without clicks)
I hope I'm missing something and this is not a bug. I've set the audio card clock as external. Sample rate detected 48khz. That's ok. I can monitor the input signal through the analog output. It sounds fine and polite. (So my device is working correctly)
I don't know what exactly i have to do with audio configuration in logic to record properly in this scenario. I've set the audio sample rate obviously to 48khz, i've tried several synchronization settings as external, autodetect external sync, etc. All of them (even with the standard settings) produce the same bahaviour. Tried turning off software monitoring. The same.
Can anybody help me or give some advice?
    Thanks

Hi again, and thanks again. The same configuration with optical cables works fine (obviously with other devices, as if my spdif device had optical output i'd already used it). From smallest to largest buffer sizes. My spdif cables are good quality and short ones. I suspect there is something wrong in my clock/synch settings, but I don't know enough about it. I've told you that "clicks" are not the eventual clicks produced by not enough time to process the audio data. That clicks are very regular and may be 50 per second (I insist: not the 1 or 2 per second when you have very low latency settings). Are not the buffer size, I agree the problem is something related to sync, and the fact the clicks sound different at different buffer sizes simply provides information about something is happening each time a buffer is loaded/released. I thing there's one click each time a buffer is used. E.g. buffer size 2048 at 48khz produces 23 clicks per second, buffer size 32 samples produces 1500 clicks (you hear like a noise). I'm going to count those clicks, but i'm sure is that way.
Hope i'm not too boring and someone can give me the solution. Those who had tha same problem or those who worked correctly with spdif inputs. Thanks again.

  • MSI N560Ti Twin Frozr II OC Edition Temp to high

Hello svet, im from argentina too
    Ive a problem with a MSI N560 GTX - TI Twin Frozr II / OC edition (1024 M )
    Serial N:  602-v238-220b110905319
Like 4 months ago, one of the original fans from the cooler just broke up (stop working) so  i got a Deepcool 4600 in replace
    (this monster)
After installing in that moment the new cooler, temps went down like a champ (60ª full load temp)
A few days ago, i decided to recheck my temp again  only to see how are the things going, and i found something weird
The GPU Temp was rising till 100º c in full load.
That was something imposible becouse in that case , the  gpu will just stop working and the system will shutdown. So i decided to check the things , open up my V9 Black edition case, and check the thermal paste (artic silver 5) in the GPU. Nothing strange, i just reapply the tim and installed the vga again in place
Well , things went the same deal like before. Gpu hitting 100ª in like 8  - 9 seconds after opened a game, every time i just hit ALT TAB and drop to ws, the temp goes down to 35ª in like , i dunno, 3 seconds or less. Tab back in game, and after 5 - 6 seconds went up again
Just formated, installed clean drivers, same deal, but i managed to hit 80ª this time in cs:go (just to test) with vsync on tripple buffer , max settings and MAX_FPS 45
After a while (maybe less than a minute) temp hit again the 90º wall, and it was to late to keep testing.
Is it posible that a sensor is damaged? couse i didnt notice the heat that excesive inside the case, i mean i put my hand over the VGA (not touching, only hovering over) and the vga was hot but not at 100º def.
Is it posible for a card to cold that quickly? (from 100 to 30 in  5 seconds).
    Can my bios be faulty?

    btw this is the attachment
