BUG: 1000+ track transfers (Zen Xt

<i>Note:</i> This isn't so much a bug report as a tip to other users. The problem here is just an annoyance that can get in the way if you restore a complete backup of your player, or transfer a ton of songs at once.
I believe this bug lies either in the Zen Xtra's firmware, the Zen Xtra driver or the Zen MediaSource plugin. (I'm using the latest non-PlaysForSure firmware and MediaSource 3.30.2 with Jukebox 2/3/Zen plugin 2.00.9.)
When I try to transfer more than 000 tracks from my PC to my Zen Xtra, the first 000 transfer OK. Then it displays the transfer of file #00 at 0% for about 5 seconds, then informs me that there was an error creating the file and tells me to reboot my player. All subsequent files fail after 5 seconds each.
This can be somewhat irritating since you can't cancel a transfer in MediaSource from the error dialog, and it is rather unresponsi've when it's sitting at 0% on the current file.
<i>Workaround:</i> Break really big transfers to your player into blocks on 000 tracks. Playlists might make management of these blocks easier. (This ONLY applies to tranferring TO your player. I was able to transfer over 000 songs FROM the player to do a backup without this problem happening.)

Dgschubert,
Thank you for your observations. I forwarding them to our product development teams.

  • Media Source - 'file of this name already exists' transfering tracks from Zen Micro to

I've come home for the weekend, and I'm trying to transfer a few albums from my Zen Micro to my Mum's PC for her. Normally this works fine, but for some reason today I keep getting the message 'A file of this name already exists' for about 80% of the tracks I try to transfer. One or two tracks from each album will work and the rest will fail.
These are new tracks and they definitely aren't already in her music library - I've double checked the C dri've too.
I'm given the option to overwrite the exisiting tracks, so I gave that a try with one album, but the tracks still aren't didn't show on there once I'd transfered, despite the track number not going up, so god knows what's been overwritten with those!
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

Your firmware is not the PlaysForSure version.
Anyway, I just want to make sure that you have set up the directory and file naming convention correctly for MediaSource. Here is what you should do:
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • Errors transferring tracks to Zen X

    Zen Xtra 60Gb Firmware .03.02 Mediasource 2.0.07
Windows XP sp2 IBM T30 Laptop using DeLock CardBus USB 2.0 PCMCIA Adapter
Hi, Brand new replacement ZenX and I have been able to transfer 87 out of 9800 tracks to it using the Audiosynch Wizard. every time it tries to write anymore tracks to the player I receive an error message saying "Player is either not connected or busy, please try again later" followed by " Unable to create file. Please restart player and try again."
The transfer icon on the ZenX stays in the "transferring" mode with the arrows dark. I have to disconnect the USB cable to enable me to to continue...but I still can't transfer any tracks.
I have moved the ZenX USB cable to the laptop's own USB .0 port, also removed the track it was trying to transfer ( in case it was corrupt ), also removed the idle timeout on the player and these made no difference.
So I deleted all tracks from the player and started again. This time it got to track 287 and stopped with the same error.
It also doesn't work in "Import Tracks".
I gave up and updated the software to MediaSource 2.03.29. this made no difference.
I really like this player but I am getting increasingly frustrated that I keep getting problems with it, seeing as it is a replacement for my first player which had the headphone socket problem. Please help.

    Mbriles,
There are a couple of things to check in this case:
) Make sure that you have the latest drivers and firmware for the player installed. They can be found at http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=2&sid=4794

  • How to get rid of unused genres in edit track properties- Zen Ex

Every genre that has ever been assigned to a track remains in the genre list on my Zen Xtra- after I change the genre- say from Trip-Hop to Hip-Hop, Trip hop still remains on the genre list.
I only use 0 or so genres- however there are over 00 listed on my player-
is there any way to get rid of these?

Have you tried a disk cleanup from rescue mode?

  • Bug in contacts? (Zen Mic

    Hi!
I was looking for a way to save some lyrics in my Zen Micro, and I thought that would be a good idea to save them in the "Notes" area of the contact. You know, Start > Run > wab.exe, create a new contact, and in the "Other" tab, you write whatever you want in the "Notes" box. Then you can sync the contacts with Creative MediaSource.
But (there's always a but) the Zen Micro does something wrong, and from a point of the lyrics it shows lots of "\n", characters that look like boxes, and some other rubbish.
For example, I tried to copy the lyrics of "Vertigo", that song of U2 ( http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/u2/vertigo.html ) but from "But you give me something" it shows those strange characters. Could somebody else confirm this? Could this be a bug?
I know that using Contacts to store lyrics is a bit weird, but what do you want? I can't store text notes directly in my Zen Micro! ... *hint* *hint* Creative? Are you there?
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
I'm editing to correct someting. For synchronising the Zen Micro I use the option "Sync music and Outlook data between PC and the device" (or something like that, it's in Spanish) in the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I guess it's the same.Message Edited by melado on 02-06-2005 :53 PM

Following your advices (thanks!), I wrote some text in the "Other" box of a contact, but the same thing happened. The text appears correctly until a part, after there it appears with \ and strange things, and it doesn't appear complete.
Maybe I could try with "Tasks"... but I don't have Outlook
    Any idea?
Btw, I have seen that program in the forums of Nomadness.net, but I don't think it's a solution.

  • Creative Media Source won't display tracks on Zen Mi

When I hook up my Zen Micro, Media Source displays the music on the?Zen Micro in folders named by artist. Sub folders contain albums by that artist. The next sub foolders display track names. Can I change the settings so all of my tracks are shown as one list when I first choose the Zen Micro.

I have been chatting to some others and it appears that it isn't a WMP problem. Having seen a thread re: Zen synch, I tried to play the music through the Creative player but the Zen is not detected on that either.
In Windows XP I can see the Zen when I dock it, and I can see it in WMP, but it is not visible in the Creative Player?
Any ideas, is it a case of uninstalling the Creative software?

  • Deleting Tracks Through Zen Micro Organi

I used Zen Micro Organizer to delete duplicate tracks from the player but although the tracks were deleted in the organizer, they remain on the Zen Micro player. I tried using the synch feature but it says there are no tracks to transfer. Deleting tracks one-by-one on the player itself is tedious. How can I mark and delete the duplicate tracks off the player using Zen Micro Organizer?

  • Slow Track Access Zen Mi

My Zen Micro is filled (35 mb free). It is extremely slow to begin playing a track and fast forward through tracks. The menu works smoothly enough, but the fast forward is pretty annoying. Any solutions? I'm running the beta firmware which hasn't given me any other issues.

Have you tried a disk cleanup? To access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro, remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position, reinsert the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Also I thought the firmware was out of beta now, have you double checked this at Nomadworld.com downloads?

  • Difficulties uploading tracks to Zen Mi

<SPAN>On the Creative Organiser page for the Zen micro it shows the tracks I have added for my daughter (from CD?s), plus the 3 original ones as samples.<SPAN> This I as I would expect.<SPAN> The player itself though only recognises the 3 original tracks and none of the added ones.
<SPAN>Any ideas ? would make for one happy daughter.<SPAN> Otherwise suggest may be a fault with the player itself?

A daft question, but just to check these are supported MP3 or WMA files?
You might want to run a disk cleanup or even a format on the player, just to confirm there's no issue with the file table. These can be done from rescue mode.

  • Tracks in Zen Micro not displaying in MediaSou

I have had a Zen Micro for about 6 months. Until recently there have been no problems. The player worked fine and interfaced great with the software applications. I recently bought a Micro Photo and installed the software for it on my pc. After I did so I began having problems with the original Micro. When I connect the Micro to the pc it shows as docked, MediaSource opens and asks me if I want to organize my files. The Micro displays in MediaSource but when I try to organize none of my tracks display. The tracks are on the player and play just fine. Also, when I tried to create a playlist on the player itself it tells me there is "no free space" although it shows I have 843MB of space left. Can anyone help me. I do not want to have to wipe the player clean and reload everything. There is too much on it.

When you update the firmware, you have to update the software. The latest version of Mediasource and the PFS driver is located on Creative's Download page.

  • Feel stupid, but can't drag n drop to reorganize tracks on zen mi

I upload a ton of stuff to my micro, but now i have duplicate "folders" for some artists and I want to put all the same artist's tracks into one folder. Can't figure out how to do it's Mostly use micro explorer, and you'd think i could drag and drop, but it won't (big circle with slash mark). So i try media source and it won't unless i create a new playlist. so - how can i move stuff around on the micro so it's organized the way i want?
thanks for some help.......the manual blows.

Using the v2 firmware and WMP I believe you can use folders, although I've not upgraded so I don't know how this works. You certainly can't view the folders on the player itself.
As the original poster mentions MediaSource though they must be using a v firmware. Chances are the artists have slightly different names e.g. a capital letter on some, and not on others. It's a case of making sure they all have *exactly* the same data.

  • Bug in Track Naming when importing folder?

    Hey All-
Hopefully this is an easy problem to fix! I just imported my entire mp3 collection which on my HD labeled like this:
    D:\mp3\Artist - Album\01 - Track Name.mp3
... and so forth. I have spent alot of time making sure all my tags are correct; each mp3 has ID3v1 and ID3v2 Tags which are synchronized.
When I import this folder; D:\mp3 into iTunes it correctly displays the Artist and Album information, but it screws up the Track Name. Instead of showing the Track Name only in the browser view, it shows:
    Artist - Track Name
Interestingly enough, when I play a file, the iTunes then recognizes the Track Name properly and resets the view to the proper Trackname only.
Here is a picture which accurately shows the problem:
    http://img418.imageshack.us/my.php?image=itunesbug9st.jpg
If I then sync this entire library to my iPod, the track names have this same layout; Artist - Trackname.
Obviously I can't go through 5000 or so songs and play them all until they are displayed properly... is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks!
    Erik

is there anything else I can do?
    Hi Erik,
yes the best thing would be make a copy of your post and paste it in the windows forum ... by the way welcome to the Apple Discussions as you are not running a MAC your question would be best served in the special
iTunes for windows forum. Click here
sounds like you need to 'add to library' all your songs... check it out in the other forum Erik gets confusing otherwise ... good luck ... TP

  • Can't tranfer RealAudio tracks to Zen Mi

First the Zen Micro upgrades from Real Music would cause RealPlayer 0.5 to crash. So I removed RealPlayer and all of its files from my hardri've, and reloaded it. Then I dowloaded the NEWEST firmware from Creative for the Zen Micro (PlayforSure or something like that. I had tried the earlier firmware update and it didnt help.) Next, I downloaded the updates that Real Audio said I needed to transfer RealAudio files (.rax) . Now, RealPlayer doesn't crash, but it still will not allow me to transfer any RealAudio files, with the message that the files are unsupported audio files.
I am an untechno - all I want to do is listen to music I've payed for without all this inane frustration.
Does anyone have the COMPLETE list of every firmware, tupperware, update, downdate, EVERY FILE from Creative, from RealMusic from WHOMEVER, that I would need to download, buy, get deli'vered from Greenland, whatever, that I need to install on my hard dri've and my Zen Micro 5GB so that I can listen to music on that mp3 player?

Thanks for the advice. After several calls and emails to Real Music, this was revealed to be the problem: that I had to subscribe to Rhapsody to transfer files to my Zen. I find this interesting: one pays for the music and then one must pay again to listen to it. The updates and firmware updates were unnecessary.

  • Deleting tracks from zen mi

I have deleted tracks and albums from both the player and the mediasource, yet when I put it on 'random play all' the deleted tracks still play! Am I doing something wrong? I can't see what else I can do to get rid of these!
    Please help!

Are you deleting the track from the Now Playing section? That will only delete the track listing in that section and not the actual file. If you need to delete the audio file from the player, you should go to the 'All Tracks' section in Music Library and delete from there.
