Bug ! - ATV doesn't preserve iphoto folders

I have @30,000 pictures in iPhoto... and of course, sorted into folders...
But ATV doesn't preserve that when it syncs... everything is flattened, alphabetized, and the most recent albums at the end...
Its totally silly and this isn't just a missing feature.. I see this as a bug ?
Whats up with this Apple ? Why don't you let me be able to find my pictures the way I've organized them on my Mac ?

So the ATV doesn't recognize the folder hierarchy that I've created within iPhoto
Accepted
The albums just appear alphabetically, and I usually have no idea where pictures are, because the albums aren't even listed chronologically.
Mine certainly doesn't do that, yes the tv ignores nested folders, but it lists the albums inside them in the order they appear in the folder in iphoto, furthermore it lists the contents of the first folder first and the contents of the second folder second and so on. It doesn't list them alphabetically at all.
If you don't like them listed that way then change the way they are listed to one you like. (Just drag them into the order you want).
I want my albums to appear slightly differently on the tv than in iphoto, this presents no problem to me at all, as I say I can have my photo albums in any order I choose.

  • ATV doesn't recognize iPhoto Library

    Using iTunes to sync by choosing my iPhoto Library doesn't work as the iPhoto Library is dark and can't be chosen.  Also ATV doesn't recognize my iPhoto library which is how I realized I had a problem.  All other functiondsof ATV work fine; i.e. movies, etc,  This just seems to be a sudden problem as everything worked fine before.  Is my iPhoto file corrupted in some way?  What do I do?
    iPhoto version 9.2.3

    Location:  /Users/jberns/Pictures/iPhoto Library
    I have run the Repair Database utility by holding down the Option and Command Keys while opening IPhoto
    I have tried turning Home sharing on and off.
    I did not do anything different.  All other functions of ATV work nicely.
    When I try to choose the iPhoto Library it is not active (faded)

  • Copying iPhoto folders to CD for TV viewing

    I'm looking for a way to copy 6 mos. worth of iPhoto folders with jpegs and TITLES to a CD that I can play for TV viewing. The real problem is getting the folders with titles out of iPhoto in jpeg form so they are catalogued. Any suggestions?

    The tip refers to the file "Library6.iPhoto" that is in the iPhoto Library folder. That's the file that often gets damaged or corrupted and makes iPhoto think there are no photos in the library or that the files are missing but the thumbnails are there. I just select it and type Command-D to make a copy of it which ends up as "Library6 copy 1.iPhoto". When I need to backup again I delete that file and make another copy of it.
    For protection of HD problems and really losing your files I suggest an external Firewire HD. An 80G drive is not that expensive and can hold your iPhoto Library folder and, in general, your entire User folder. That folder contains all of your important, non-replaceable files. The system and applications can be replace
    That being said DVDs can be used with iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option to burn multiple rolls to disk in the iPhoto format. This will allow you to mount that disk in iPhoto like this to copy back those rolls into a new library is that were necessary. As you get a number of new rolls you can burn another disk. Or use a CD and burn fewer rolls as they are added. That preserves the keywords, albums they were in, comments, etc. You can also burn slideshows.
    The external HD is the easiest and quickest way. By backing up the entire iPhoto Library folder (i.e. copying it to the external HD and then keeping it current with a backup program like Synk, you can avoid most any catastrophic crash on your HD. I don't have my external drive running all the time. I only turn it on and mount it when I have some backups to perform.

  • Replacing hard drive ... can I save my iWeb and iPhoto folders?

    Hi, I'm giving in my MacBook Pro for repair tomorrow. Is it possible to save what I have in my iWeb to transfer over to a new hard drive as well as my iPhoto folders?

    Is your Macbook going in for repair because the HD is broken?
    Then it is not possible to get back your file's If the HD is damaged and doesn't work, then you can't get your file's back easy. There are some company's who can do this, but those costs a enormous lot off money!
    Is the HD is going to be replace for a bigger or faster drive?
    Yes, then you can put the HD in a external encosure. This will make it possible to acces the disk with the USB or FireWire port on your Mac.
    This is a nice and cheap enclosure:
    http://www.cooldrives.com/usbesal2hadr1.html
    You can always try to put a broken HD in such a enclosure. Sometime's you are really lucky and can still get back the file's.
    Always have a back-up off your important Data!
    Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • Iphoto folders(organized) transferred to photoshop?

    Due to my occupation I have to use a PC. I have photoshop on both Mac and PC.
    1. Is there any way to transfer my iphoto folders and pics to windows and keep the organization I have?
    2. Is there anyway to keep organization of iphoto folders and pics and transfer to photoshop on my existing mac? I was thinking maybe the transfer to windows would be easier if I could transfer my folders and pics to photoshop mac. Then transfer photoshop folders and pics to windows.
    Basically I would like to keep my organization of pics in iphoto, photoshop mac, and windows. Is there an easy way to do this.
    Or once you go iphoto you never go back.........?

    Articaine:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you copy only the Originals folder and its contents from your iPhoto Library folder to your PC you'll have all your original image files in folders that represent the rolls in iPhoto. So if you want to do some additional organization before copying to the PC select files your want to group together in the main library and the create a new roll with them.
    You can rename the rolls from within iPhoto so that the subfolders in the Originals folder have more meaningful titles.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Bug: IconUIResource doesn't paint an animated ImageIcon

    I was recently playing with Icons and found that javax.swing.plaf.IconUIResource doesn't paint an ImageIcon that contains an animated GIF. Found the reason in these bug fixes.

    [http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4215118]
    From that, I could arrive at a workaround: extend ImageIcon to implement the UIResource marker interface and use this class instead of wrapping an ImageIcon in a IconUIResource. Interestingly, NetBeans autocomplete revealed the existance of sun.swing.ImageIconUIResource which I determined to be a direct subclass of ImageIcon, with two constructors that take an Image and byte[] respectively.

    Animated gif is working fine for me.
    You can check the delay time between the images in the gif, to see that it's not too short.
    Here's a simple example:import java.net.URL;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import javax.imageio.stream.ImageInputStream;
    import javax.swing.ImageIcon;
    import javax.swing.JDialog;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    import com.sun.imageio.plugins.gif.GIFImageMetadata;
    import com.sun.imageio.plugins.gif.GIFImageReader;
    public class AnimatedGifTest {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            try {
                JFrame frame = new JFrame();
                frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JDialog.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                URL url = new URL("http://www.gifanimations.com/action/SaveImage?path=/Image/Animations/Cartoons/~TS1176984655857/Bart_Simpson_2.gif");
                frame.add(new JLabel(new ImageIcon(url)));
                frame.pack();
                frame.setVisible(true);
                // Read the delay time for the first frame in the animated gif
                GIFImageReader reader = (GIFImageReader) ImageIO.getImageReadersByFormatName("GIF").next();
                ImageInputStream iis = ImageIO.createImageInputStream(url.openStream());
                reader.setInput(iis);
                GIFImageMetadata md = (GIFImageMetadata) reader.getImageMetadata(0);
                System.out.println("Time Delay = " + md.delayTime);
                reader.dispose();
                iis.close();
            } catch (Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();}

  • IPhoto folders vs albums

    Some iPhoto tutorials show how to first create a folders, and then create albums in these folders.
    Why do you need folders. Can you simply create albums of photos??

    Actually the question is totally in the context of using iPhoto
    iPhoto folders vs albums
    His later comment is trying to understand how iPhoeo works - and yoru suggestion is not at all helpful and as I pointed out may lead to an inexperianced user destroying their iPhoto library
    Your answer is confusing and dangerous
    the answer for using iPhoto as the OP requested is
    That is NOT using iPhoto and at best has no effect on iPhoto and at worst would lead one to move photos around within the iPhoto library thereby destroying their library
    The correct answer is that in iPhtoo (the context of the question) folders simply can not hold photos - you make albums of photos and then make folder to hold albums for organization
    Arguing and posting poor, misleading or incorrect suggestions is really not a good idea and helps no one

  • IPhoto folders are all messed up and my pics arent showing up correctly..

    I tampered with the iPhoto folders...I renamed files and moved things around thinking I was organizing things.. but now my photos in iPhoto arent working correctly. Some photos show a thumbnail but dont open.. and all I get is a gray screen with an exclamation mark. Other photos open but at very poor quality.. around 32KB instead of the 1.6 MB that they should be!
    What can I do to fix this problem?
    Also, my computer seems to have 5 copies of all my photos. One copy that is the original... another that is smaller and then more random copies. How can I get rid of those copies.. I've got like 2,000 of them! Ahhh..
    Somebody please help! Any suggestions??

    Hi Diana,
    #1 Two Apple kbs for you to read
    Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
    #2 It seems you moved photos around and some thumbnail photos from the Data folder were put in the originals folder (photos open at 32k) and the ones missing (renamed by you). This is how it is supposed to be in the Finder;
    iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
    As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
    It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
    Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
    When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.
    There is no way to recover from this except to start over with just the original files. This would entail creating a new library, going through the old library and finding all the full sized images and deleting the thumbnail images
    #3 Here are the instructions for creating a new library. BUT remember that in your case it is not as simple as importing the Originals folder again as you moved photos around and in and out of the wrong folders. You are going to have to find all the originals and delete the smaller thumbnails of the same name (unless the originals were overwritten by the thumbnails when you moved photos around because an image has the same name in all the folders (Data, Original and Modified).
    close iPhoto
    -drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    -launch iPhoto and create a new library
    -double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
    -the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
    -the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
    -Drag these two folders to the desktop
    -If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
    -If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
    -If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
    -If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
    -the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
    I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
    Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
    1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
    2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
    3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

    Why doesn't my iPhoto library sync properly to my iPhone and iPad? I have already tried deleting the iPod photo cache. I sync the entire iPhoto library, which includes about 8,000 photos. The Events and Albums never match up, with many missing photos in most albums and events.
