[Bug] Bad algorithm to mark SMSs as read

I use so much my phone connected to my laptop... so I receive and send messenges on Ovi Suite. But is very annoying that when I disconnect my phone many messenger were not marked as read and this is why:
1. If one contact is already selected when you receive a messenger that message is displayed but never marked as read and the contact and the messenger will remain in bold, double clicking it will mark it as read.
2. If 1. happens several times until you double click that contact the last message will be marked but the others will remain in bold, and you can't do nothing to marked them but to change the view from contacts grouped view to time line view and mark one by one...
3. Balloons doesn't highlight in bold even if they are unread.
4. All these result on a bad sync of the read and unread messages with the phone. Leaving the phone with unread messages that has been already read on screen and replied.
Suggested Solution: anchors in balloons and scroll events could control if you read or not messages in the balloons view.

  • How can I mark ALL mail read in Mail?

For the past few months my mail program has constantly said that I have two unread messages in it. I have gone through every folder on there and selected all the messages and marked them as Read but there is still a "2" on the icon in the Dock. It's not a huge deal but it's been kind of bugging me since it seems like it should be a simple fix. Anyone have any ideas for how I can get rid of this? Is there a "Master" way to to mark all messages read in the Mail program, in case I'm missing some somewhere? Thank you in advance.
I'm not sure if this helps but the email account that it says the "2 unread messages" are in is a school Outlook account. I have tried deleting the account and readding it and the same "2 unread messages" notification is still there.

In mail enter "unread" without the quotes, in the search box. HIt the Enter key.
You will then see a new item appear, "Status: Message is Unread"
Select this status and all your unread messages will appear.

  • How do I change the default from"Mark message as read by date" to "Mark message as read"?

When I migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7 I downloaded & installed a new version of Thunderbird (v4.10.2) and retrieved my Mail files to the new profile. Everything seems to be working properly except that whenever I close an open message I get the "Mark messages as read by date" popup which has the current date but wants me to specify a starting date. This didn't happen in my previous installations (I've used Thunderbird for years). Options / Advanced / Reading & Display has "Automatically mark messages as read" checked and "Immediately on display" set, but I haven't found anything that lets me choose "Mark as read" rather than "Mark as read by date". How do I turn the "by date" off?
    Thanks --

'Mark Message as read by Date'
This can be invoked by right click on email in list and select 'Mark' > 'As read by date' to invoke the 'Mark Message as read by Date' pop up window.
If you are reading an email in either the Message Pane or in a new tab and press the 'C' key, this will open the 'Mark Message as read by Date' pop up window.
So can you tell us exactly how you are ''closing'' a previously unread message.
Do you select an email in the list so that it displays in the Message Pane? Then you do not need to close it because this will auto happen when you select another email in the list.
OR do you double click to open an email in a tab. Then how do you close it? There are some options on how to do this:
    # Do you click on the small 'x' located in the tab?
    # do you use 'Ctrl'+'W' ?
    # Do you right click on tab to show drop down options and then press 'C' key?
I notice that there is a similar action - pressing of 'C' key.
If you do not right click to get drop down, but instead just use 'C' key, you will invoke the 'Mark Message as read by Date' window.
Can you check what it is you are doing

  • The easiest ways to mark topics as read

Just like a big email inbox, the way to stay organized on the Community is to know what’s old and what’s new. You can manually mark messages as read or, even better, you can let the system do it for you.
To automatically mark topics as read:
    Sign in to the Community.
    Open your account settings.
    Select Preferences> General.
Select one of the two automatic settings, depending on your preference.
If you prefer getting a bit more hands-on, that’s fine too. You can also mark discussions as read using the forum and topic options.

  • Email mark all as read feature in OS5..?

Very annoying to have to open each and every email to show marked as read. Thought for sure a "mark all as read" feature would be in OS5, but doesn't appear so at first glance. Any answers?

    bbfc wrote:
Go into Mail, tap Edit, then mark the messages you want, tap Mark on the bottom and tap Mark as Read.
The same can be done to mark messages as unread.
However, when having around 200 unread messages (could be 500 as well), a “mark all as read” option would not be too much asking.

  • Remove "Mark All as Read" button with Group Policy from Outlook 2013

Under the Folder tab in Outlook 2013, there is a "Mark All as Read" icon. How can I permanently delete this icon? I remember doing so with Outlook 2003 / 2007 through a Group Policy setting. Not sure how to take care of that with Outlook 2013...I
think I need an ID code? I've tried right-clicking the icon and choosing Customize the Ribbon, but you can't remove the "Mark All as Read" as a single icon, you have to get rid of the entire Folder tab. Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes, we can disable the “Mark All as Read” button in Outlook 2013 by using control IDs. Please follow the steps below to achieve the goal:
    1. Press Windows key + R, type gpedit.msc in the
    Run command and press Enter.
    2. In the Group Policy Management Editor navigation pane, locate
    User Configuration >
Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2013 > Disable Items in User Interface > Custom
    3. In thedetails pane, double click to open
Disable command bar buttons and menu items.
    4.
    Choose Enabled, and then choose
    Show.
    5. In the Show Contents dialog box, under
Value, enter the control ID for the command that you want to disable. The control ID to disable
“Mark All as Read” button is 1906.
    6. When you have finished entering control IDs, choose
OK, and then choose OK again to exit the
    Disable commands dialog box.
For more information about control IDs, please refer:

    Hope this helps.

  • Mark All As Read not working

  • Message filter to mark email as read does not work.

I have set up a message rule to first mark the message read and then move to a folder. Thunderbird moves the message to the correct folder, but it is still marked as unread. I'm using Thunderbird for Windows and I'm using Windows 7. Also, Thunderbird is up to date. Thanks.

    I have the same issue!!!
    Exchange 2010 SP3 fully patched.
If I read emails one by one, they show up as read on webmail/outlook. But if I use the Edit -> Mark All -> Mark as Read it will still show as unread in webmail/outlook
I wonder if the IOS command that is used to mark all as read is not compatible to Exchange?

  • How to mark all mail read?

It's one of those *** was Apple thinking issues. No, you can not mass delete emails. It's one-by-one only. Sorry.

  • Mail will not mark messages as read after being opened

Mail will not mark messages as read after being opened... the blue dot will NOT go away, no matter how many times I open the e-mail.
It's a simple pop account. I AM able to mark messages read with the message menu item (mark as read.) I also have nothing synced with it, no iPhone, no IMAP accounts, no .mac account, nothing.
But this is a real pain to have to do manually, when it used to happen automatically upon clicking the e-mail, it opening in a window to read, and then closing it.
All was working fine up until the 10.5.7 update. I hoped the 10.5.8 update would fix the problem, but no change. Everything else is working perfectly (I do the permissions repair/disk verify procedure before and after each update.)
Can't seem to find anyone else with this problem in here either, through search or just going through hundreds of messages.

    Okay, then lets try this:
    1. Select all your messages in the Inbox; then use the contextual menu or the Message > Mark menu to mark them all as Read.
    2. Quit Mail.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file.
    4. Restart Mail, wait for the index to rebuild and retrieve any new email you might have, and see if the problem contineus. Hopefully it will not.

  • Marking Messages as Read

ARGGGGGG!!  All I wanted to do was to mark all of the messages in the Notebook forum read and then move on to the Desktop forum.   However, when I was on the page that showed only the subcategories for Notebooks and I clicked mark all messages read, it marks EVERY message read in every category!!!!  Any chance that their could be an option for marking read only the subcategories in one section without it clearing every new messages in the forums?
    Thanks!

I don't always have the time to go into a dozen different forums and mark them all as read individually.  It also doesn't work to set my profile up to mark all messages as read when I log off as I may be in and out of the forums and not always get the chance to see everything before I have to log out again.  Would be nice to see the ability to mark just the notebook/desktop/printers or feedback section as read.

My iPhone just loaded 1600  emails dating back over two years from one of my accounts. Is there a way to "mark all as read"?

Your Comcast accounts are POP (unless you enrolled in the Comcat Beta test of Imap) so they won't sync at all. Either enroll in the Beta test or don't use Comcast.
Your iCloud account is Imap and should sync just fine, unless you have set it up incorrectly.

  • IPad doesn't mark email as 'read'

    Hi,
So, I have 3 devices on which I can read my emails: A Macbook Pro, mid-2010 15", an iPhone 5s and a iPad 2.
When I receive emails on my macbook, there are some rules that filter out the spam emails. The rest I read and save to icloud folders or delete.
But, when having done this on my macbook and returning to my iPad, the iPad still sees every email as 'new'.
That and a break from using my ipad has now caused my ipad mail having around 500 emails... But all of those emails have been read and handled on my mac.
My iphone only has the icloud account configured, but that's working fine. (I have multiple email adresses, from gmail, hotmail and exchange)
How can I get my iPad to sync properly? Because handling all those emails twice is very annoying and time-consuming...
    - Lisa

I'm having the same issue, only with my school email powered by Gmail. I had it working fine as a POP account but wanted to switch to IMAP after Gmail was updated. Now, every time a new message comes in, it stays marked as Unread, regardless of what I try to do. I've marked it as read on the server using Webmail, but still no luck. I then deleted the account and created it again. Now the message shows up as read. So, I sent a test email to see if the problem still persists, and it does. Seems any messages that were unread on the server as of creating the mailbox as well as any new messages subsequent are effected. This is becoming very annoying. On top of that, I can't even delete these messages. I get an error stating:
"The Account path /Users/xxxxxxxx/Library/Mail/[email protected]@imap.gmail.com is not writable. Please chage the Account Directory field in the Account Options tab to a writable directory."
I cannot find any such Options tab inside Apple Mail. Can anyone think or suggest a remedy for this?

  • Mark threads as read or unread

Is there a way to mark individual threads, or all threads in a "view" as read or unread?
If not, I think that would be a useful feature.

AFAIK, there isn't a way to currently do this in a quick bulk operation. I agree that this would definitely be useful.
If I want to mark a bunch of threads as read, I'll just double click on the expand caret next to the thread to open and close it (quickly enough so that the thread doesn't actually expand), which will mark it as read. I don't know of any way to set threads
    back to unread though.

    3 choose one email
4 choose the mark button, but keep pushing the mark button
5 while holding down the mark button, uncheck that chosen email
