Bug Boot Zen Nano P

Hi,
I have a Zen Nano Plus that won't start any more. When I plug it on USB I see the logo on the screen and I can acces to the memory.
I try the recovery mode, update the firmware (version .0.03): everything goes fine and it says that the update is done. But after updating the mp3 player doesn't still want to start and when I see the details I have :
Current Version
- BOOT manager 0.00.00
- Host link .0.03
- Player .0.03
- Ressource Manager .0.03
Upgrade Version :
- BOOT manager 0.00.00
- Host link .0.03
- Player .0.03
- Ressource Manager .0.03
Why the Boot manager did not update? Is it why my player doesn't want to start anymore?
Thank you.

Is DapJukeBox still acti've? I get a foriegn language web page, or is that it's
Why doesn't Creative Labs deal with this?
This is crazy - I have a brand new ZEN NANo Plus, never even loaded a single song on it yet. Checked for updates and the update hoses my boot manager.

  • Zen Nano Boot Prob

I think this player has an issue with the size of MP3s. I regularly load and listen to fairly large MP3 podcasts, 50-70 MB per file. Just the other day the player was acting like it had a dead battery, it would shut itself off and then when attemping to boot up again it would say "Creative", then "Zen Nano..", the it would shut off again.
I tried a few new batteries and got the same response. Occasionally it would boot and start playing, but as soon as I changed tracks it would shut off again.
It seems I finally fixed it by deleting one of the large MP3s. Player appears to be back to normal now.
I also noticed that some large MP3s have intermittent problems when trying to skip over them. The player will stop responding for a few seconds. This doesn't happen all the time.
Anyway, maybe you guys should look into your firmware and see if there is anything that can be optimized. There's someone else on this board that complained about the same thing. Thanks.
EDITED to say that the problem is back. The fix only lasted for a few hours. There is definitely something wrong with this player... Please check your firmware for bugs, thanks.Message Edited by mocha on 2-23-2005 05:0 PM

Well I guess no one cares or never had this problem, but I can say that now after I loaded the latest firmware the player is back to normal. I don't understand why the firmware would get corrupted but in any case it works now.

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

  • Updated firmware of Creative Zen Nano P

Questions?. Why do i need to download new updated firmware every now and then?2. WHat is the disadvantages if i don't download new updated firmware every now and then?3. What is the difference of the updated firmwares found in creative download section and the DAPJukebox website?4. Which is has the best quality firmwares, the creative download section or the DAPJukebox website?thanks?

All software regardless how good the quality control will have bugs.
Firmware is just software that is stored in the hardware on your device. New firmware is often released by a company to fix bugs or possibly add functionality that could enhance the use of a device.
But it is also possible that a new firmware update might add a new bug or two. (a rare occurance)?Sometimes (unfortunatly) new firmware upgrades can end up removing a feature.
For example it appears creative was under some legal pressure to remove the radio recording feature from there devices. On the ZVM, it was removed in one firmware upgrade, then in a later one it was replaced. On the Zen Nano Plus it was removed in the latest firmware upgrade (which is actually a bit old in calendar terms right now), but they have not released a later version that adds the recording back in. So in the case o fthe Zen Nano Plus, an firmware upgrade could be considered a bad thing.
If you require and use the radio recording functionality, then upgrading to the latest version (to fix some minor bugs) could end up crippling some of the functionality of the device. Normally when new firmware is released, there are notes detailing changes in functionality, bugs fixed, and even bugs that still exist. By looking at the information you can determine if you want/need to upgrade to the latest firmware.
Since there is some inherent risk in upgrading a firmware, most people don't upgrade firmware unless they need the new functionality or are experiencing a bug of some kind on the device that the new firmware might possibly remedy.

  • Cant format/scandisk Zen nano p

    Hello
I'm from Italy. I have a Zen Nano plus Giga since month and it worked well, till now.
Today I disconnected it while transferring a file and the flash memory was corrupted. My firmware is .3.05e and I never tried to update it.
I have Windows98-SE with media storage drivers _07_00_250 downloaded from this site because, even if the box says "win98 compatible" the installation CD refused to run because "this software cant run on windows98" (?!?)
The problem is I cant reformat the player, nor use the scandisk to fix it. In both cases, windows hangs during the operations. I have tried this on 3 different computers, all of them have win98 (with creative drivers) giving the same results. In the past, all of these computers were used to write and read files into the player without problems...
The manual says a driver is needed to format ZEN using win 98, but I think it's talking about the same drivers to read/write the player I'm already have, I'm right?
Also, notice the "format" panel in win98 doesn't let user select the format type (there aren't the voices FAT, FAT32 ecc)
    What can I do? Tanks.
    Alberto.

    I returned it...
I changed it with a Packard Bell Giga FM... just to discover it's near the same machine!
Yes, outside they may look different and the display is very different.
But functions (and defects) are the same:
    Let's compare them... They have:
    -both 20 preset for radio.
-both the FM radio recording capability AS A 4 BIT WAV (what a strange coincidence...)
-both a Equalizer who works with mp3 songs but NOT with the radio.
-both the same system to skip folders
-both a build-in microphone with the same two folders to keep wav files
-both act like as memory pen using the same manner
-both have exactly the same way to update the firmware
...and there are a lot of other coincidences...
Most of all, looking at the Packard Bell support forum, I discover a place very similiar to this, with people facing EXACTLY the same problems like here: the player shut-off on the boot, OR the memory cant read/write OR the player was "killed" during a firmware update.
After some research, I discovered the reason for this.
Creative, Packard Bell (and most of brands, I think) are using the EXACTLY THE SAME mp3 chip made in China. This chip incorporate all the functions you need, you have only to add a nice box around adding the display and the mass memory you prefer... the chinese software is complete: you only need to add a menu to show (or hide, i'm afraid) the functions of this chip...
I'm afraid people waiting for "open source" or waiting for significati've improvements in firmware will wait forever...because the seller don't owns the real core of the firmware, as you see...
Also, people always asking "who sounds better" will be happy to know they all sound well in the same manner
Compared with other players, the NANO looks "cool" and have the "line-in" function carried out... And this is all, folks!
...if only they let me to restore the original firmware I was happy to keep my NANO, but I need the radio recording and the new firmware removes it...
    what a pity...
    Bye and greetings from Italy,
    Alberto.

  • The biggest annoying drawback of ZEN Nano P

I'm very disappointed after few months of using ZEN Nano Plus player.
is that it don't display artist from ID3 tag, but only title from each track.
I'm sure that this bug, is not a such big problem to fix in the firmware by the Creative Developers.
Big request from me to Developers, please fix it!

"I too am dissapointed with my (mega expensi've) Zen Nano Plus. I don't like the fact that I can't navigate/ skip folders (especially as there are cheapers ones on the market that do allow this). So if I want to listen to song 9998, I have to navigate from song through to 9997 to get to the one song?I want to listen to (as my music collection is very big). Please developers can you release a firmware update to fix this?" Instead of having 400 files in one folder, you could for example have 20 folders with 20 files in each, or perhaps 4 folders that each have around ten folders in them which each have around 0 folders in them. i doubt there will be any more firmware updates for the Nano Plus since it appears to be discontinued. The small screen of the Nano Plus limits flexibility of navigation.

  • Zen Nano Plus wont play for more than 5 seconds at a ti

I recently bought a new Creative Zen Nano Plus and thought I was getting a good reliable product. It synced in WMP like it should but when I unplugged it from my computer and tried to listen to the songs it will boot up and start playing a song but then shut off 3 seconds later. I formatted it and updated the firmware and drivers on the player and my computer but it still wont play for more than a few seconds at a time. I tried changing the battery and leaving it plugged in but neither of the above worked. I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Same issue with me - only mine won't even power on now...
I am waiting on reply from customer support...

  • Creative Zen Nano and Musicma

I won some downloads. They are from Musicmatch. I have winodws 98SE. I downloaded the free jukebox. I downloaded a few songs with no problem. I just received a Creative Zen Nano. I installed the software for it. I transferred those songs to the player with no problem. When I tried downloading more songs on Musicmatch it showed that the download was complete, but then it gave me a software error message. It showed that I purchased the downloads, but they did not show up in my playlist. I don't know what the problem is. Do you think it is conflicting with the creative software? Should I uninstall part of it's I had no problem downloading before I installed the Creative software. I hope someone can help. Thanks.

<FONT face=Garamond color=#3333cc size=3>If you have MMJB V. 0, it is known for having many bugs. There are many posts on various forums about the numerous problems. I used to really love the product but since yahoo purchased it, it turned to crap. Sorry I can't offer more advice for your particular problem but just wanted you to be aware of the many bugs and problems.

  • Zen Nano Plus vs. N200: Clicks and pops complete fix

    Hi!
I've seen the new Zen Nano Plus at Amazon. Is the Zen a new player or is it just a N200 with a new name?
I've to know that cause I owned a N200 and sent it back. It had that clicks and po

The Software update helped a lot but didn't fixed the bugs completly at the N200.

Two extra colours (whoo), and apparently another 2 or 3 hours of battery life (then again, the MuVo did exceed the 5 hours stated in all it's reviews, so no change)
They were rebranded due to the Zen being piece models, and the MuVos being 2 part models.

  • Zen Nano Plus bricked by Recovery Tool?

Re: Books on Cd I went ahead and attempt to install the latest firmware upgrade. At this time the upgrade seems to be progressing.
Okay. The player has successfully booted up
Success. After removing Windows Media Player , I was able to install the latest firmware upgrade. I have several follow-up questions. Most important question is #
. I wonder why the Zen Micro Media Explorer is not available to me. It is all grayed out. Any suggestions on how to get it to work
    2. Is the Zen Micro Media Explorer a logical substitute to employing the Windows Media Player 0 It seems to have everything I need .
    3. How am I able to create a new playlist in the device if I cannot access this application
    4. When I select Playlist on the device, I see a message that says: To create a playlist select from the Now Playing context menuWhat is that all about and where do I roam to do this
Thanks very much for your help
Richard One of my new Zen Nano Plus appears to have been bricked by my use of the Recovery Tool, when it was misbehaving. This happended before with another Zen Nano Plus we had, but we fixed that over a year ago and it works fine now.
Actuallly, it's one of 6 my family has - plus we have lots of other Creative products (a Micro, Zen, Vado, X Mod etc). While its almost brand new, its was purchased on eBay in 2008.
Usually the first thing is to update the firmware, and tried the Recovery Tool hoping it had been updated - but now my Zen Nano Plus dows not turn on or get connected, and I tried to PCs and several USB cords and various USB connections.
I undertand a Zen Nano Plus does not have a Recovery Mode but did try usual method.
. Remove the battery, and press & hold the Play button will connectiong to the PC.
    2. Keep pressing play for about 0 second until the New Hardware Wizard starts - that will only happen the first time.
    3. Completete the New Hardware Wizard
I believe it may need to be reformatted, but is not totally bricked and can be repaired.

  • Zen Nano Plus Connection Probl

(2)Zen Nano Pluses. Both using firmware .0.03. One Red, one Black (Click and Clack always want to know what color car they are diagnosing...)
    (2) Computers, both XP SP2 with all updates; one called Dad's, one called W's.
One Zen (for ID, the red one) has been used on Dad's computer without issues for about 3 weeks.
One Zen, new and color Black, works on Dad's computer, but not on W's computer. W's computer will not properly recognize either the new Nano (the black one) or mine (the Red one), in either Creative MEdia SOurce, or Zen Explorer, or Windows explorer.
First, I have read the FAQ's. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Nano software. When I use PB's check odd things appear:
    PB's check:
With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
    ->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
    -->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.
    PB
What appears on Dad's computer, with either Nano, is USB Enhanced Host Controler, USB Root Hub, Generic USB Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Creative Zen Nano Plus USB Device, Generic Volume. Again, either Nano works on Dad's computer.
On W's computer, after just having reinstalled the new mass driver, it is USB2 Enhanced Host Controller, USB Root Hub, USB Mass Storage Device, Disk Dri've. On restart from that, it reads Creative Nano Plus USB Device, with no "volume" underneath it, and the oddball icon is not there. I think the oddball icon is associated with the "Disk Dri've". Once it read under Creative ZEn Nano Plus, "Unknown Device". Also, when I attach a Nano to W's computer, it first seems to see the Nano in the New Device Found message, THEN while it is still attached, it says in another New DEvice Found mesage that it has found a Disk Dri've. It also shows some oddball icon I can't decipher, right next to the "safely remove Hardware" icon. The oddball icon does not appear on Dad's computer.
    Any ideas?

    NEWS!!!
Actually, we have 3 Zen Nano Pluses. Two (the black and the red) have .0.03 firmware. I have never connected the black or the red to W's computer and have it connect properly. In fact, I had just tried (again) to connect the black, it failed, I re-booted. Then, I connected the blue, with the old firmware, and it CONNECTED. I could see it in WIndows explorer as dri've F:, which never happened with either the red or the black with .0.03 firmware.
    So, now what?

  • Zen Nano skips songs between playing

i own 2 zen nano's and both of them have been skipping songs randomly between playing... for example, it'll play -2 minutes of a particular song, then it skips to something else... then it'll come back to the original song...what's going on?
    i've changed batteries and all!!

    >mojitocrazy: thanks for responding to my post... i have a MAC (...)
    >i have 2 zen nano's... one of them is a year old and it has never given me problems and >i've always used the same method of downloading
    >JUST RECENTLY it started acting nuts!
    >the second player is a brand new and is giving the same problem..,
    Hello again,
My NANO worked just for 22 days after I got it...
Then the flash memory corrupted and I was unable to delete/update files...
During the time it was working good, I experienced some mp3 files were incompatible with this player: BUT such files were simply ignored and the first next valid song was played instead. This is not really a shame for NANO because there are a lot of mp3 codec variants so, sometimes even the best player for PC fails to play...
But the strange behaviour of your NANO is not clear to me...
    Theory :
May be the file sistem has logical errors. So, the files are randomly chained and the player is playing some data from the first song, some from the next song and then from the first song again(?)
Long time ago, I had an HDD crash. It was a software crash due to windows halted while writing the File Allocation Table. The result was all my movies, stored on HDD, get mixed togheter! Incredible...
->If you clear the files from NANO and then upload them again in a different order, the songs play bad in the same manner or it depends on the position in the memory?
    Theory 2:
your firmware got damaged in some parts while you was upload mp3 files and now the program is corrupted...
Both cases randomly happened because the NANO firmware is bugged and bad designed in the file handling, I think...

  • Zen Nano: wont start up and it connects to the computer i get an I/O device er

yea i accidently dropped the mp3 Zen Nano on a carpet floor not that high up but i tried switching out the battery thinking the battery was dead but it wont turn on and when i tried connecting it to the computer the computer registers it but it comes up with an "the request could not be performed because on an I/O device error. help would be apreciated considering its my little sisters.

Firmware... that's the program loaded into your Zen that tells it how to do this or do that. Engineers could have hard-wired everything directly into your Zen's microchips, but the good thing about firmware is that if there are bugs (i.e. issues) with your player, you could just update the firmware in your Zen and it'll be fixed (in many cases, anyway). Many devices can be flashed these days because more and more engineers think firmware is a good idea. Motherboards, video cards, DVD-ROM dri'ves, CD and DVD writers, MP3 players, etc. But you really shouldn't flash (that's what the process of updating firmware is called) your device even if there are newer firmware updates for it if you're not having any problems with it.
You can download the latest firmware from Creative's website and flash your Zen to perform a firmware update. You'd better be careful in following the instructions though, as not doing so can result in your player's firmware being messed up, and without it your Zen wouldn't even know how to turn on. If you're not sure how to do it, ask someone experienced in flashing to do it for you.

  • Zen Nano Plus keep shutting d

dear creative support team & community
I own a Creative Zen Nano plus 28MB, which I start to use since Jan 2006.
But since 6 months ago, the device is keep shutting down after uncertain time playing MP3 song or radio. And need several attempt to turn it on (by pressing the power button for 3 seconds). Sometime need to press until minute, or retry it over and over again.
FYI, the battery indicator is full (and i'm doubt it while the battery indicator is always displays full). But the symptom kept happening even I replace a new battery.
I've update it with latest firmware ZENNanoPlus_PCFW_L6__4_03.exe
I'm wondering if this symptom is a bug or what ? Is there any hardware error rather than just software error ?
    TIA

i dunno about a deal anywhere but to look anywhere you would be best to check circuit city, fry's/outpost, walmart pretty much any big "MP3" player stores

Creative ZEN Mozaic EZ300 (firmware .04.02) BUG REPORT:
Bookmarks remembers only current track and position within it. Current list of tracks and position of current track within this list are ignored.
So opening of bookmark opens the list of one track (without previous and next tracks)
Pause + Shutdown doesn't remember position within the track.
So next turning on displays last track in the initial position.
(though Shutdown during playback works correctly)
My previous players was ZEN Nano Plus and ZEN Stone Plus with built-in speaker. I really enjoys them.
I have bought EZ300 thinking it will be even better.
Though impossibility of folder's navigation disappointment me deeply.
The last advantage of EZ300 was bookmarks. But they appears buggy... :-(

    Hi Severov,
. Bookmark, Pause + Shutdown issue
I have a test unit with me and it is behaving as you described. I wouldn't call it a bug but rather your feedback of the product. I am sorry but I will not be able to comment on why certain features work this way or why has it changed etc.
2.Creative Central - issues with creating correct playlists from MP3-filenames with national characters
I am not familar about this issue, I will make a note of this and see if I can find out anything.
    3. What is Creative's plans for new firmware version?
I am sorry but we are unable to comment about?this mainly because such information is not available to us.
