Bug? Can't unlock security settings

I am trying to change the security settings of my Mac running Mavericks.
Whenever I click on the "unlock" button, there's a short flicker of that button – but no unlock dialog comes up.
This is strange and very annoying. Does it work for you?
Repairing access rights doesn't change the situation.
Jason

I had a similar problem?
When I tried to open the padlock, it showed me the password dialog, but shook "no" at me every time I entered the correct password.
I went to the Users & Groups pane, unlocked it successfully (same password), then went back to Security & Privacy, and it unlocked this time.

    Keep in mind (and Acrobat will alert you to this fact) that protections that you set in Acrobat are enforced by all Adobe products but the 3rd-party PDF Viewers may ignore them. There are even Web sites that will strip protections that you set in Acrobat. This is not a reliable technology these days. Acrobat keeps it mostly for backward compatibility for those users who use only Adobe Acrobat/Reader.

  • Can I alter security settings for multiple users of fingerprint reader on iphone 5 - i.e. if i allow my daughter to set her fingerprint, can I stop her from accessing itunes store to make purchases???

    My daughter wants to access my iphone 5 by adding her fingerprint. Can I alter the security settings so that she cannot make itunes purchases etc?

    Not if you want to be able to continue to make iTunes purchases too. You can lock out access to iTunes store using Restrictions (which always needs a passcode to change, Touch ID won't work for changing/removing Restrictions) but that means no one can use any of the restricted features.
    iOS has no concept of multiple users with differing access levels like this. Touch ID stores multiple fingerprints, but they're supposed to be all from the same person, the device's owner, not multiple users.
    You're going to have to buy your daughter her own iPhone... ;-)

  • Can not set security settings explicitly

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a workspace(library) and a folder via APIs and need the program NOT TO INHERIT security setting from the library to the sub folder.
    Given below are my attribute for the workspace creation and folder creation respectively,
    Attributes for the workspace:
    NamedValue[] wsDef = WsUtility.newNamedValueArray(new Object[][] {
    { Attributes.NAME, workspaceName },
    { Attributes.DESCRIPTION, workspaceDesc },
    { Attributes.SECURITY_CONFIGURATION,
    WsUtility.newNamedValueArray(new Object[][] {
    { Attributes.GRANTS, wsGrants }}) } });
    Where wsGrants,
    contains row with
    NamedValue[] wsReaderGRPGrant = WsUtility.newNamedValueArray(new Object[][] {
    { Attributes.GRANTEE, attr[0].getValue()},
    { Attributes.ROLES, new long[] { readerRole.getId() }},
    {Attributes.PROPAGATING, Boolean.FALSE}});
    Attributes for the folder:
    NamedValue[] fDef = WsUtility.newNamedValueArray(new Object[][] {
    { Attributes.NAME, folderName },
    { Attributes.DESCRIPTION, folderDesc},
    { Attributes.HAS_EXPLICIT_SECURITY_CONFIGURATION,Boolean.TRUE} });
    With these setting, the sub folder still inherits security settings from the workspace.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks,
    Tenjuka

    I haven't tried to create this sort of setup using code, yet. Some thoughts though...
    In what order are you performing these steps? One of things I've observed is that when using the Content UI, when switching from Inherit to Modify, the base security configuration starts out the same as the parent. Are you still seeing the "inherit" switch set to on your subfolder?
    Another thought, it would appear that you are setting each GRANT to be non-propagating for the user being added with the READER role to the workspace. This would imply that only accounts added in with this should not propagate to the folder that isn't inheriting. Are you seeing these additional readers?
    Is the workspace security configuration set to CONFIGURATION_FINAL? Are you supplying a security configuration for the subfolder after providing the HAS_EXPLICIT_SECURITY_CONFIGURATION attribute for the folder? Perhaps the system doesn't like having a null security configuration when it's been instructed that there is one.

  • X1 Carbon - Can't unlock Bios settings

    Hi!
    For testing purposes I've set an supervisor password and set a lock on the Bios settings. Since then I can't access the settings because I'm never asked for the supervisor password. Biometric features are enabled. So when I restart and press F1 I get into the bios without beeing asked for a password but I can't change values there.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi WhiteThinPad21, welcome to the forums,
    ensure the system is totally shut down, no restart, hybrid sleep or hibernation state and then press and hold F1 when you start the system. Enter the supervisor when required and after that you should be able to change the settings.

  • Can't unlock security & privacy pane

    Hi Guys,
    Running Yosemite 10.10.2.
    I am trying to unlock the security and privacy pane in system preferences. I provide my credentials, the padlock unlocks briefly, but then locks again. I have a password on my account and have even tried setting up a second test account (also with a password).
    Any suggestions?

    There are 2 work arounds for this issue
    1 Set a password for account then security/privacy tabs will unlock like normal
    2 Without password set you can click to unlock then when authentication box appears use return to ok it and immediately click on any security/privacy tab you literally have a split second to do this but it works
    This issue has been apparent in:
    10.10
    10.10.1
    10.10.2
    This has helped some people though this is first I have encountered the wont unlock with with admin account password entered

  • Bug/vulnerability in wifi security settings

    Hi there. I have an iPhone 4S. On about 21 January it was suddenly unable to connect to a WiFi access point at work to which it had always been able to do. So I tried to connect it to my personal WiFi access point which I always carry and to which I have been able to do since I set it up lst year. This also failed along with my connecting to my WiFi access point at home. I then read about Apple iPhone 4S WiFi issues (some prevailing since last year in September). I then disabled security on both my personal and home WiFi access points and my iPhone was able to connect. What seems strange is that an iPhone does not have an option to setup WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK or any other WiFi security option.
    Is anyone aware of iPhones WiFi security bugs which seem to exist currently. Resetting the network settings has not helped. My iOS is at version 6.0.1 and is up to date according to my iPhone.
    So is Apple going to release a patch to this WiFi security issue?

    Hi there
    I'm wondering if the following is happening to you.
    When in Acrobat, you are viewing the document differently and able to make edits. When you are opening the PDF from RoboHelp (or more accurately, the browser) you are presenting it from the PDF reader and not Acrobat. Thus you have different capabiities.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can you maintain security settings with the pornographic sites are already on your computer and an 8 year old is using it. Please contact me and tell me ho

    My 8 yr old granddaughter uses this computer and while I was looking for a way to get rid of yahoo after deciding to dump Firefox because it is constantly quiting I was in the registry and found Yahoo in an area that is filled with pornographic sites. Not knowing how to get rid of this site I deleted the entire section. Looking at your browser doesn't do anything to address this problem and I WILL NOT use a web browser that does not have some type of security for sites that I DON'T WANT MY 8 YR OLD GDAUGHTER LOOKING AT! So buck up and get it done to prevent this.

  • I can not unlock Security preferences

    I have suspision my computer was hacked. I want to switch "Fire Vault" on but the system doent allow me to do so.
    I am pretty sure the password I am putting in is correct, but the response is negative.
    What to do?
    Also, is it a correct move to switch on "Fire Vault"?

    I assume you mean FileVault. If so, that will encrypt your hard drive so that nobody can access the data without knowing (or being able to guess) your login password. This is the only thing that will prevent someone with physical access to your computer from being able to hack your system or access your data.
    However, if your computer has already been hacked somehow, this won't fix anything. What makes you believe your computer has been hacked? It's extremely unlikely that it actually has, unless someone untrustworthy has had physical access to your computer or you have installed some kind of malware. If you can describe the symptoms you're seeing, we can give you more accurate instructions for helping with your issue.

  • Can't unlock security and privacy pref general panel

    Trying to tell the system to open an app anyway; but it won't let me unlock the lock icon
    Any solution?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application System Preferences.
    Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
    If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
    Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Yosemite, Security Settings Does Not Unlock

    Hi,
    I am trying to change my security settings so unapproved software can be also installed. However, when I click on the lock, it does not unlock after I type in my credentials and I am an admin on my computer.
    Can anyone help with this?
    By the way, is there a way to make this text box I am typing in a little less wide? As it is I can control the height of it but not the width of it and my sentences are a mile long before they scroll down to the next line. Shrinking the width of my browser doesn't affect this either.
    Thanks.
    Farzad

    I found my own answer to this problem.
    I don't have a password associated with my own account on my own computer.
    And if you leave the password field blank when trying to unlock security
    settings, it won't work. You have to have a password to be able to
    unlock the security settings.

  • Maxtor OneTouch III cannot disable password (security settings)

    I have a question regarding my iMac Intel running Leopard and Maxtor OneTouch III for use with Time Machine.
    It was a back up before and was connected with my iMac G4 running Tiger.
    Now the iMac Intel shows the Maxtor, but everytime the iMac shuts down and get started again, the system ask for my password.
    With the post here under from Jan 19, 2008, I give it a try by connecting the Maxtor III with my iBook with Tiger, I'm not able to disable Security !! I can go to Security settings, but the field "disable password" is grey and I cannot select it.
    Has anyone the solution? Thank Frank

    Re: MLeopard and MAXTOR one Touch III 350Gb external Hardisk

    So here's what you do if you're drive is password protected, and you just upgraded to Leopard and your Mac isn't finding your drive:
    If by chance you have the CD that came with the drive great! Or if you have a copy of the installers somewhere, it should contain the exe's for Windows. I had a copy on my Mac, copied to a thumb-drive, and installed the Maxtor OneTouch Manager on my Windows machine. Ran the installer, restarted, then connected my drive, which by the way is formatted for Mac, the Manager launches and asks if you want to reformat for Windows, say no! Then, you will be prompted to input your password to unlock the drive. Unlock, then go to Settings, and disable Security. You will be prompted for your password again. Now that you've unlocked it, unplug and plug back into your Mac, and BAM! You got your drive working on Leopard! See ya!!

    These don't seem to be errors as much as a log of the activity of the software.
    How did you install the software? If there is a installer one option might be to uninstall it. Or use Spotlight to find all the Maxtors, or check Maxtor forums.
    There's Google as well with this first hit:
    Blog Quote:" If, like me, you upgraded your Powerbook to Mac OS X "Tiger" only to find it crashing every time you plugged in your Maxtor OneTouch firewire disk, fear not. The solution turns out to be quite simple.
    If you have the following kernel extensions in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder, then move them out to the desktop and reboot:
    IOFireWireMxBt.kext
    MaxtorPowSecDriver.kext
    The backup software is Retrsopect Express - can you find that?

  • Security settings STILL failing

    i've posted about this many times with increasing anger. i've only had one response, altho repeatedly, which told me (also repeatedly) a "fix" that (also repeatedly) never worked.
    i am getting SICK of skype claiming to have decent security measures, that can be opted into by clicking a few easy buttons WHICH DON'T WORK. i am still getting random messages from random strangers despite having the option clicked that only known contacts can contact me.
    is there even anyone from skype on this stupid forum? if so they are apparently ignoring this problem which i know from previous posts others have also had.
    so if anyone from skype is here, please listen, and take note: you, as a company CAN NOT promise security settings if they repeatedly and apparently unfixably fail. it's really bad company policy.  either fix it, or don't promise it.
    i'm seriously thinking i'm gonna just give up on skype because it's driving me up the **bleep** wall. it's a useful service to talk to friends but not at the expense of getting stupid chat up lines from random morons WHO AREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO SEE ME!!!!
    PLEASE sort this out. and if i have one more reply from theuberoverlord with an apparently foolproof fix that DOESN'T WORK AND NEVER HAS, i will scream. got that?

    That screenshot cannot answer the question regarding your server's security.
    Sure, there are elements of security which are answered by the authentication methods supported, but thats a fraction of the number of issues you need to consider.
    For example, disabling LOGIN and PLAIN authentication is a start, but even Kerberos doesn't insulate you from a dictionary attack, where an attacker just tries combinations of usernames/passwords and hopes to get lucky.
    Then there's the question of what other protocols you're running. Securing one doesn't help if you leave a dozen others insecure.
