BUG: Constrained Layer Rotation

If I select a layer and Free Transform it (or Transform>Rotate... doesn't make a difference), if I hold down my shift key and rotate, everything is fine up until 165.00°. Keep an eye on the "options" toolbar (that runs across the top of the program). The next increment should be 180°, but instead, degrees resets to 0°, and both the horizontal and vertical scales are inverted (to be -100% in this case). This is mathermatically correct, however it seems like a bug because it doesn't really make sense for this to happen, and free rotating unconstrained doesn't cause the same problem (you can get to 180°).
This is a problem that stems back to earlier versions of Photoshop, as I was able to reproduce the issue within CS5, too. Not a high priority bug, but something that definitely looks like a bug and could cause confusion or minor problems. Especially now that there is that rich dynamic cursor feedback (that shows the angle in degrees near the cursor... the same type of overlay that you see when you resize a brush) which also shows 0° at 180°.
Thanks, and let me know if you need clarification.
PS: I'm on Windows 7 running 64bit Photoshop CS5 and CS6.

Glad we could figure it out
I will forward it as feedback but i believe this is how it's designed to work. The magnetic charging connector is made for our docking stations (we don't sell any magnetic charging cables) and when you connect a charger to this port it will also set Android in docking mode. This is why you may see apps reloading themselves when you connect a charger to this port. It's Android going to docking mode.

  • Free Transform Rotation Issue - Layer rotates/moves by itself after clicking on it?

Hey all.  Since the last update, I have been experiencing this weird issue while using Free Transform.  Sometimes, after I invoke Free Transform and then click on the layer I am transforming, it seems to rotate by itself.  Usually clockwise.  It happens really quickly.  It's almost like my mouse cursor is off center when I click on the layer and the it's like the layer rotates to match the location of my cursor.  It's so weird and quite difficult to describe.  I have also experienced the layer moving quickly to the right after clicking on it while in the Free Transform state.  I have tried 2 different mice and experienced the issue on both of them. I have also tried different mousing surfaces and experienced the same thing.  It doesn't happen every time but just sometimes.  It started doing it since the latest update.  It's really annoying.  Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

  • How to make all arts in a document layer rotate?

Open a new document in AI (CS5/CS6), and then draw some arts (rectangles), given an original point (such as 0,0), now I want to all arts in current layer rotate 30 degree around the origin. How to realize it?
    Thanks in advance.

In AITransformArt.h you'll find AITransformArtSuite::TransformArt(). That's the method you'll want. You just need to build the appropriate matrix using the methods in AIRealMath.h -- with an AIRealMatrix -- and then apply that to all the art you want affected.

  • Bug in layer resize.

I reported a bug today I feel could do some nasty thing to document when you use resize() to re-size a layer. Particularly if you have used suspend history.  It looks like resize for some unknown reason backs the document up one history state before doing the re-size.  I have tested this in CS5, CS6, CC and CC 2014 all fail the same way. Nasty Nasty...
I can program around that bug if history states are being recorded for the script.  However I like to suspend history state recording in scripts so that its easy to back up in history after the script is used if need be.
However that bug can destroy the document and also remove prior history states in so that its impossible to recover the document from history for prior state has been replaced with the recording of the use of the script. How many states are removed would depend on how many .resize(); the script did. Nasty Nasty.
Here are some screen of the bug in action. The fist before and after look the way the script is designed to work. However I did an extra select all before using the script. You see its no longer in history in the after.
The second before and after same as first without the extra select all note a guide line has been removed.
In the third before and after I changer the order of my of steps before the script I first drag out the guides then place in the image.  You see that the image has been removed the wrong layer has been resized and the place removed from history.  Nasty Nasty.
The script works when history is not suspended for I programmed the script to work around the bug... http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/FitImageToGuides.jsx

Yes I tested CS5 its there.  I never install CS4 and lost my CS3 because of disk drive crashes.  Did not test CS2 for CS2 selection bounds does not work and I would need to add my work around for that bug.
I only have two machine on my I7 Windows 7 system I have perpetual CS5 and CS6 installed and on my workstation also Windows 7 I've installed my subscription versions along with CS2.  There are differences between CS6 13.0.1.3 and subscription version 13.1.2.  Adobe seems to have given up on being backwards compatible starting with CS4.   Even Bill Gate's realized Bugs were bad for business has them exterminated Adobe does not seem to accept that bug are bad for business. So now I have CS2, CS5, CS6, CS6 CC and CC 2014.  I use file system links to add plug-in and script so all installed versions us the single copy of the add-ons I install.

  • Bug report: [layer mask] editing colors

Sometimes it appears that the white/black color combination that is automatically selected in layer mask editing may override the selected color combination outside of layer mask editing.
    Example:
    1) Open Photoshop.
    2) Select two colors: white/white.
    3) Create two blank documents, each with an empty Layer 1.
    4) In one document, add a layer mask to Layer 1. The colors should have been automatically switched to black/white as the layer mask is selected.
    5) In this document, use the gradient tool to fill the layer mask with black/white.
    6) Switch to the other document, and notice that the color selection is again white/white.
    7) In this other document, use the gradient tool to fill Layer 1. Notice that the layer is filled with black/white instead of white/white as selected.
    Tested on: PS CS6, Windows 7, 64-bit.

On further testing I think the issue may not be directly related to layer masks at all.
Basically the issue is that the Gradient tool colors don't update to the 'default foreground/background colors' in cases where it seems that they should.
One example of such a case (as illustrated in the original post) is when the Gradient tool keeps the black/white color combo used for a layer mask in a previous document after switching to the current document where a non-masked layer is targeted and the default fg/bg colors have correctly reverted to white/white.
    Example:
layer mask targeted in doc1 - notice synchronised Gradient and default fg/bg colors
after switching to non-masked layer in doc2, Gradient is still black/white although default fg/bg colors have reverted appropriately to white/white
Bug or not, it's something I wanted to point out as it seems inconsistent.

  • [BUG] ClearScan TouchUp "Rotation" bug

    Hi,
ClearScan is awesome when it works.  On seemingly random pages I get this error:
Accumulated text within the attempted selection area is rotated other than horizontal or vertical. TouchUp cannot create a text selection.
Since I rely heavily on the touch up tool (mainly for changing font color) this is a major deal breaker.  Please help.
    Alan

I found a work around to this problem for those who have previous versions of Acrobat.  The bug seems to be only with Acrobat 9.  If you open the same document in Acrobat 8 you can use the touchup tool without issue.  So the work around is this:
    1. install Acrobat 8
    2. install Acrobat 9 (compatibility between the two is not officially supported but I haven't had issues yet)
    3. use Acrobat 9 to OCR with ClearScan
    4. use Acrobat 8 to TouchUp the clearscanned file
Obviously this is a work around, not a solution.  We need the bug to be fixed.

  • A Bug in layer effects?

    Hi,
Hopefully the animated gif is self explanatory. (edit: looks like animated GIFs don't work so have included each frame as a separate image).
I have used a layer effect to draw a stroke inside the border of an image and all I would like to do is to hide it at a certain point in time.
If I hide the layer effect it does exactly as I would like.
But if I try to reduce the opacity to 0 then instead of viewing the image behind it crops the image.
My only solution appears to be to set the stroke OUTSIDE the images, but I would REALLY REALLY like to avoid this as there are many, many precomps from photoshop that I've produced with the stroke inside.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
AE CS6, by the way. 11.0.2.11
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thanks Szalam,
I took your advice & upgraded - now running 11.0.4.2
Crossed fingers and tried opacity again.
    No luck
Thanks for the suggestion anyway — like you say it was worth a shot.
If any one else has any recommendations, or workarounds i'd be very glad of them.

  • A bug?  Layer styles change or dissappear when you flatten/merge layers.

Does anyone else experience this problem in CS3?
An example for me would be,
right now I have an outer glow with noise applied to something but when I flatten the few layers I have in the file, the noise simply disappears or the glow becomes faded. With other layer styles, there might be a change, too, but usually the effect just weakens in color when i flatten the layers.
any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

I either used too many words or too few, but I'm not really sure.
The specific layer style combo and layer merge I am talking about is simpler than you might imagine..(see the pictures I posted of the results of the merge.)
Yellow outer glow at full opacity with 100% noise, merged down with a single layer. (and that single layer does not have anything other than a fill in it)
When i merge the two, (both blending modes are set to normal) the noise then disappears and the glow fades. It really does not have anything to do with how close or far away the "view" is.
    Trust me, I tried it.
I even used a microscope and a telescope..
    It doesn't change anything.
In other words, the layer styles always look okay regardless of how they are viewed, UNTIL you flatten or merge them.
So to finally answer Buko's question, the answer is no.
And I did actually take into consideration what D.Katz said about possible interference with the appearance.. view needing to be at 100 to even judge what's going on.
The problem I am experiencing only occurs the minute one layer combines with another layer that has a layer style(s).
If you compare the two images I posted, you will see that there is a very large loss in quality rendering the layer style not even worth using in the first place.

  • Icon Editor bug - random rotations

While editing icons with the new icon editor in LV 2009, I keep finding that my icon (or selection, or layer) rotates when I type the letter "r" into a layer name.  Are others seeing this?  What tool do I need to have selected to avoid this?  I've installed the icon editor update and this bug is still there.
Also, is there some way to define the default VI Icon layer to be something other than a white square with a black border?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have noticed this, too.  In fact, it's pretty easy to reproduce.
Open the icon editor and show the layers page.  Now select a layer.  At this point pressing "r" should rotate the layer, which makes sense.
Now, click in the layer name, which un-highlights the layer, and any time you type an r it will rotate.
There are some other issues with rotate: if a selection or layer goes outside the icon canvas, it will be trimmed permanently (not so great if you wanted to flip it 180 degrees).
As for changing the default icon background, I'd suggest making some templates for general use. You can save templates from within the Icon Editor. The first thing I do when editing an icon is delete the default layer and select a relevant template I've made.  Or you can just use the filled rectangle too.  If there is a way to change the default icon, i'd be interested in finding out.

  • X-rotation bug?

When doing a 3-d rotation is appears that the x-rotation is on the global X-axis, not the layers axis while the other two rotate the layer's axes. The easiest example of this is to rotate a shape or solid on the Y-axis 90 degrees then rotate the other two axes. The X and Z axes appear to merge into one.
Is there a work around for this, aside from redoing my whole projects using the orientation?
A zipped project can be found here:
    http://www.zeveisenberg.com/dropbox/Rotation.aep.zip

A 2D layer always rotates around what becomes the Z layer when the layer becomes 3D. X and Y rotation (not orientation) is always around the X and Y axis of the world while the Z axis and therefore rotation in Z remains perpendicular to the XY plane. If you take a close look at what is really going on when you rotate you'll discover that rotating Y to 90º doesn't really cause X and Z to merge, it's just point where X rotation according to the world lines up with the Z axis of the layer.  This is the difference between orientation and rotation.
You'll clearly see that the layer rotates relative to the world and not relative to the layer when you try other angles.
I've attached some arrows to your comp so you can see the effect. This isn't a bug, it's the way the 3D world was designed.
The only way to use rotation properties to animate rotation relative to the layer and not to the world is to press the W key, make sure local axis mode is selected, then grab only the X or Y axis of the layer and drag. You'll notice that when you grab X or Y all of the rotation properties change, but when you grab the Z axis only those values change.

  • How to make a stationary crop for a rotating layer

I've got some rotating/spinning layers in my video. I'm having the darndest time trying to crop these so that they don't leave the bottom and top boundary of the the video. For example, I have a long rectangular shaped object that spins 360 degrees. When this layer rotates into a vertical position it overlaps the bottom and top margins. (i'm using a 16:9 format) So I guess I need to know how to create some sort of mask or opaque layer or margin that will hide part of the spinning layer. Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
there are many ways to achieve that and some of us have free generators that could be used for that purpose too, however, using a Color Solid from Effects tab>Generators>Matte is a viable option.
What you need to do is drag the Color Solid onto the timeline, above your rotating clip, then highlight the matte and in the Motion Tab (Viewer)Crop the Bottom as you wish(in the matte controls choose color, black I suppose). Now duplicate the matte, place it above the first Color Solid and either reposition the black matte as needed or reset crop controls and crop Top.

  • Auto rotation lag in home and lock screens

Currently my ipad mini 2 is experiencing a minor bug on its rotation. I have tried to reboot, force reset, erase the device and even restore the device through itunes. The auto rotation is extremely slow only on homescreen and lockscreen. The problem will be solved only hard reset or reboot is done, but after a period of time of usage (few hours), the problem occur again which is permanent until the next reboot is performed. The current iOS version is on 8.1.3. I have also found one of the display unit in an outlet, which is ipad mini 3, having the same issue. Is this a software issue or hardware? I have tried to send my ipad into the service centre, the problem still exists. The video provides an evidence for about the problem reported. Thanks. http://youtu.be/xsseXJNxOAo

Thanks for posting the video of the issue. Is this after restoring from a previous backup or from a restored as new state? If you're using a previous backup to restore the device, I would personally test the device fully from a restored as new state. If the issue only occurs when being restored from a backup, the issue is likely with the backup. Sometimes, backups can contain odd glitches that can't be resolved except for not using that backup.
I do find it very odd that you found a display unit that also had the same issue however.
Try enabling the "Reduce Motion" setting under Settings/General/Accessibility
Also try enabling "Reduce Transparency" under Settings/General/Accessibility/Increase Contrast
These two settings seem to generate the biggest performance hit on the fluidity of the screen rotation. I'm not saying they will help or resolve your issue however since that kind of lag is something I've never seen before, even on my mini 1 (I now have 2 mini 2's).

  • 2 vegas masks in same layer. wont seem to work?

    Hello Adobe Creative Forum!
I am having trouble with making my masks in the same layer rotate in vegas.
when i try to set rotation, then pull the time marker to e.g. 5 sek, and set it to 1x, it doesn't make any points between 0 and 5 sek.
I am fairly new to AE, but i have been troubleshooting for some time now, without finding my mistake(s).
Can you maybe try to take a look at my file, and see whats missing?
    https://copy.com/cBaFKEmt2ZB0H6IL
i haven't set rotation on this file(on any of the layers), but i have been trying to time it several times without luck.
thank you very much in advance :-)

Works without issues here, but of course setting both effects to render on transparent makes no sense since the second will eradicate the first. Set it to Over. also masks need to be set to None or else they will clip the layer of course, which can also make effects disappear.

  • IPhone 6 Plus full of bugs

Why are so many bugs with iphone 6 plus? IOS 8 is so bad and full of bugs! Screen rotation issues, dropping calls, horrible signal, internet slow and wifi signal problems! This is one of the worst phones i ever had on life. I changed from android to iphone because it is supposed to be better but im so disapointed that i will return my phone before 30 days trial! So i can go back to galaxy... Unless apple fix every single bug in IOS 8.0.2....... So disappointed

I suggest you try to restore as new before jumping in to install 8.1 in the hopes that that might solve the problem. That will "flush" the system and instal a "clean" copy of iOS 8.0.2. Sometimes problems are due to corrupted software and that problem is only solved by a clean restore. You can then synch your content (digital music, movies, apps) back to your phone.
If, by chance, the system software is corrupted, installing 8.1 might  not solve the problem, but make the situation worse. So I suggest you try the step approach to rule out any problems now before you instal 8.1. If after you restore as new and the problems persist, then install 8.1. If that does not help, then as I have said before, it could be a hardware problem.

  • Changing axis of rotation in timeline animation.

Hi guys I am working on creating a logo with animation, and I am struggling to make a layer rotate without wobbling off of axis. I doing a transform in the timeline, and moving the anchors to the direct center of the screen when I am rotating the layer in transform mode in the timeline to save the animation. Although the layer rotates perfectly when I do it manually to before adding a point on the timeline, when I hit play, the layer wobbles out of axis. Do you guys know how to change the axis of rotation on a layer animation in the timeline?

What I would try to sove the problem would be to create rasterize layer version of your odd shape layer and add a couple of very transparent pixels so that the retangle layer's bounds would be centered over the center of the round circle part of your shape layer.
