Bug displaying accents in Italian

I''ve been trying to read the following course contents document from the Rosetta Stone product on my android HTC Desire

The problem is, all the accented text is displayed incorrectly so, for example on page 9 (titled 1.2 Continua) there is the following text in the PC versions of the reader
33 Che cos'è?
Questa è una mela.
Whereas on the android version it displays as
33 Che cosi ?
Questa una mela.
It seems BeamReader for Android has it working ok so I think the document is ok. It says in the Android Market that the Adobe PDF reader supports italian, but it seems this isn't the case. Could it be fixed?

Bugged display mode after cable switch

Im using the dvi-vga adapter supplied with the mini with my dell 2005fps. It has been working fine until I plugged in a DVI cable to check out the mini on my TV which has a DVI-in. It worked on the TV but after using that DVI cable the display only shows up correctly on my 2005fps when using a DVI cable.
When I use my VGA cable only the 1680x1050 display mode is bugged. 1600x1000 works like it supposed to but it dosnt fill the screen completely. And this isnt the only computer using the display, so yes I want to use the VGA cable.

Somehow changing those cables did somthing to my displays settings. I did a factory reset on my moniter and Im not having the problem anymore.
I did not make any changes to the moniter either before or durning the problem.

Reader 9.4.6 bug displaying PDFs from Autocad

I've received several architectural drawings produced from Autocad as PDFs. All of them display correctly in Reader 9.4.6 for Windows, but in Reader 9.4.6 for Unix, some dashed lines are missing from the PDFs when viewed on the screen or printed.
When I look at the document properties in Adobe Reader, it shows PDF producer as "Acrobat Distiller 7.0.5 (Windows)", and PDF version as "1.4 (Acrobat 5.x).

- If you about>plug-ins says Adobe Reader, that's what you have (and not Acrobat which unlike Reader is a paid program)
- Reader X provides certain commenting tools. You should be able to add comments and highlight text using commenting tool
- Reader 9.4.6 does not have free commenting tools, there can be certain special PDFs where this is allowed but not generically
- The paid product - Acrobat will let you comment any PDF as long as the author of the PDF has not applied security to the file disabing it
- Both Reader 9.4.6 and 10 are free products from Adobe. As I note earlier in my reply, only Reader X has free commenting. Both Reader X and Reader 9 will let you view and PDFs and comments.
- You can develop plug-ins for both Reader and Acrobat products using the free SDK. For Reader, you need to get a special certificate (available at small cost) that needs to be embedded in your plug-in.

[BUG] Editing contacts with italian language set

This behaviors happens only when WebOS is set to Italian language:
1) when editing an existing contact, it shows up as a blank one, as if I was creating a new contact from scratch. Actually, the contact data is there, but somehow hidden! When changing it (so, actually, writing back from scratch), it does change, but can't see the original contents.
2) When creating a new contact, I can't add a phone number, while I can add other items (email, address, URL, etc). Saving it and then editing it, goes back to point 1. Thus, the only way to save a phone number is dialing it, then saving it from the Phone app.
I have an European GSM Pre, WebOS 1.4.1

First, when you do create a new contact (in Italian), what happens when you try to type in the Phone Number field? Does the cursor appear, or is the field grayed out? Does nothing happen when you tap on the "+ New Phone Number ..." field?
As long as I tap it, the field become dark grey, as it was somehow activated, but when I release my finger it comes back to normal and I can't type in it (no cursor).
Besides that, I can add a new contact. Other fields are working fine, but in the Email address and IM address field, the cursor doesn't appear on the very left (beginning) of the field. It stays almost in the middle, as it's keeping room for a button, and actually if I click on the left, it pops up something like an empty list or menu. Besides this glitch, I can edit those fields.
By the way, the phone number field is the only one that is 2 lines long (in italian). I don't know if this means something, but maybe this screws the interface up.....
Second, what happens if you change your language selection from Italian to English, then try to edit an existing contact? Are you able to see existing text then?
Yes; it works perfectly.
Also, try creating a new contact with your language selection set to English. Are you able to enter a phone number at that point? How about editing a contact created with language set to English while still set to English. Can you see existing data within the contact editing screen?
Yes, everything works fine, as long as english (US) language is set.
Next, switch back to Italian and view the contact created under English. Can you edit existing information without it blanking out?
I can't see the existing information; I can't edit any phone number obviously, because the field can't be activated. If I try to overwrite data by writing on those field that I know they contain data, it doesn't work: name of the contact doesn't change, and editing the email address (ie. writing it back from scratch) adds another address.

BUG : Displaying invalid objects

I am 100% certain that previous versions of sqldeveloper highlighted invalid objects with a red cross. Since using 1.1, 1.1R2 and now 1.2.0 (Build 29.98) this feature seems to have disappeared or is now broken and intermittent.
Also there are occasions when I compile a package and it will display the compilation errors in the compilation error pane, other times it will not and reports an invalid package as compiled without error when it clearly isn't. Please fix this. Its my only gripe with an otherwise excellent tool.

ITunes Store displays everything in ITALIAN

I don't know when this happened could have been a while back and I missed it (haven't used the store for a while) or recently when I installed iTunes 7.0.1

Go to the bottom of the main iTS page and select the store from the drop down menu that you want to be browsing. It sounds like you are in the Italia iTS.

Weird bug displaying all Spaces in 10.5.3

Sometimes when I move my mouse to the "Show all spaces" corner, all the windows appear on my desktop (from all my spaces) as if I had done the Expose command to show all apps, yet I can see that the Spaces background showing the desktop tiles is there. This has only happened to me on 10.5.3. Is anyone else having this problem?

Don't have anything helpful, but I am having the same issue. I did resolve it by turning off spaces then trashing the com.apple.dock.plist file and restarting the Dock process However, when I restart it I have to do it all again. I don't know if that gives someone a lead, but hope it helps hold someone over until we have a definite fix.

Unicode characters with accents won't display in Java Swing applications

I'm using FreeMind (a Java Swing application) and I need to enter classical Greek characters with accent marks. When I type an accented Greek character, FreeMind displays the unaccented character. However, I can type the accented character in MS Word, then copy and paste into FreeMind, the accented character appears.
One of the FreeMind developers indicated this was a Java Swing issue, not FreeMind, and suggested I test with another Swing application. So, I installed jEdit and got exactly the same results. I can paste an accented character into jEdit, but I cannot type it in directly.
I'm using Windows Vista with Java 6 Update 22 (build 1.6.0_22-b04). I also tested on a XP Pro box with Java 1.6.0_18-b07 and got the same result.
One other note: A couple days ago, I was able to type accented Greek characters into FreeMind. But it only worked for a couple days and then the behavior reverted to unaccented characters. It is possible, but I don't recall specifically, that I updated Java during the time and that may indicate a bug in one version of Java but not another.
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

The link you provided does not appear to describe the Greek Polytonic keyboard. (The page also describes using the "Option" key as the dead key. There is no "Option" key on my keyboard. I'm using a Sony VGN-NS140E purchased in Chicago, i.e. standard physical US keyboard.)
Please see http://darindavis.net/languages/keyboard_Greek.pdf for a detailed description of how to use the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard in Windows to produce a complete set of accented classical Greek characters. This method works in MS Word and Notepad. I enabled the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard with:
Windows (Vista) Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Change Keyboards > General > Add > Greek (Greece) > Greek Polytonic
A test that will demonstrate whether you can replicate the error is to do the following in both MS Word (or Notepad) and jEdit (or FreeMind):
1. Enable the Greek Polytonic keyboard
2. Type "\" then "e" which should produce an epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent (ἒ)
When I do this in MS Word or Notepad, I see the epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent. When I do this in jEdit and FreeMind, I only see an epsilon.

Actually, this problem is transient. Sometimes FreeMind or jEdit will display accented characters, other times it won't. Ironically, the first time I recorded the above referenced screencast, a few characters in jEdit did appear with accents. A couple minutes later, I re-recorded the screencast and as you can see jEdit did not display the accents. Between the two recordings I literally did nothing other than stop the Jing recording and start a new one. There is another variable at play here and I can't determine what it is. The most likely source seems to be Java since MS Word and Notepad consistently display accent characters.

Pages breaks words using "Justify text" on certain accented characters

I'm working on a document in Hungarian, and it seems that when I use the "justified text" setting, this puts extra white space around certain accented characters.

In this case, "időszak" should be a single word, and it is, when I write it as "Idõszak" (using õ instead of ő, but this is not the character that is needed there). The problem seems independent of the font that I use (Big Caslon, in the example above).
Is there a way to work around this?

My old eyes fooled me.
I saw a "lowercase o with a tilde" when it was a "lowercase o with double acute"
With your font which is a bit more recent than mine, the missing glyph is grabbed from an other font (I didn't search which one it is).
I didn't got what was in your original screenshot.
I just get a character with a fully different drawing.

Given what I get, I will not call that a bug but a feature that many users (most of them ?) are unaware of.
The operating system does its best to display the character we are asking for even if it is not built in the used font.
This trickery has PROs and CONs.
For your use, I'm afraid that CONs are the most important and that you will have to search for a font embedding the needed characters.
To scan the contents of a font, I uses the free Linotype FontExplorer which displays the defined glyphs in black and the missing ones in red so, it's easy to see if a font fit our needs.

Data display issue in CF all non-IE browsers

The message title was a bit vague for all the factors
involved here so let me explain the problem in detail.
We are running ColdFusion 7, we use Oracle 9i and the
datatype of the field we are having issues with is a LONG field.
The data we are displaying is part of an application that has
an essay field. When we insert the data from the essay into the
Oracle 9i DB i can query the DB and get the correct result in SQL+
and Golden. The results are being stored as ASCII in the LONG
field. In IE displaying this data in any way works fine. However in
Firefox, Seamonkey, Opera or any other non-IE browser I've tested,
when I try to display the data in a text area or a text input even
I get a string filled with □. Also if I even try to output
the contents of the field in a cfoutput I cannot even copy the
string correctly, I only get the first letter.
So if i put in the essay field "Hello world" when I revisit
that page to edit it, it would look something like this
"H□e□l□l□o□
W□o□r□l□d□." I brought this into
ultraedit so I could try converting to see what exactly this
character represents (I had to view source, save the file and open
the saved file since copy and pasting is made impossible by
whatever is going on), and apparently the □ is the null
character.

I am not entirely sure why I am getting a null character in
FF and not IE but I thought it might have something to do with the
fact that ColdFusion defaults to UTF-8 and the value is being
stored as ASCII. This is strange first off because I am not telling
CF to store the value to ASCII anywhere so you would think it would
default as UTF-8. Secondly I tried to force the page to default to
ASCII to see if that fixed the problem with <cfcontent
type="text/html; charset=us-ascii"> this would read the page as
ASCII but for some reason that field still comes in as UTF-8.

Where does the data come from (FCK Editor, MS Word, other)?
This problem happens when I am using a text area, a text
input or FCK editor I submit the data via a form and allow the user
to edit it later if necessary using the same means (i.e. text
input, text area or FCKeditor). But this only occurs on fields that
insert to LONG datatypes. VARCHAR2's are working fine.
If you look at the data directly in the database does it look
fine?
Yes the data looks exactly as it should when I look at it in
the DB.

What popped into my head was that somewhere the data is
double-byte
characters that are not using the second byte so it is null,
then later
on it is being interpreted as single-byte characters which is

enough about encoding and how CF handles it to know how to fix the
problem.

The problem is that I can't get accented characters appear into the From: cc: bcc: fields. For example, when I fill the From field with 'René' it appears as 'RenX' in the From: field. I've set everything to utf-8 but that doesn't seem to matter. When I receive an html text mail, the From: fields displays accented characters as strange codes, like RenA@ or RenX for René.
In the message text itself it varies: it either displays René when the mail is viewed as plain text mail, or RenA@ when the mail is views as html text. How can I get accented characters appear inside email fields too? And also in the body text when the email is viewed as html text?

It comes down to this. Since flash outputs in utf-8 I used utf-8 in here too. But narrowing it down to the most basic part:

How can I make it display René in all headers and message? Both in html mode and in plain text mode?

Best Practices for Exporting with Bug overlay

I'm trying to optimize a bug graphic so as to speed up exports from FCP. I'm working at XDCam 1080i/60 (timeline + footage) and have experimented with different types of bugs, all PSD files. Here's what I've found exporting a 10 min. segment:
No bug = 3 min. export
96x96 pixel PSD of the bug positioned in the corner (semi-transparent)= 15 min. export
1920x1080 PSD with the bug pre-positioned in corner (semi-transparent) = 15 min.
1920x1080 PSD with the bug pre-positioned in corner (opaque) = 15 min.
It seems such a simple overlay shouldn't demand so much reprocessing and take so long. Any ideas how to make this more efficient? I don't want to add a bug via Compressor as I want to retain control of what moments in the program the bug displays.

Render to full before you export and all the times will match. The bug image size does not effect the render time as each frame has to be compressed separately. The only time it will make a difference is if you're scaling and positioning the bug to fit the screen, but if you position and size it correctly in Photoshop it will speed by the render time. XDCAM BTW is a dog to process because of its GOP structure.

Accents issue

i have a little issue with displaying accents in my flash
forms.
The "saving" of information is no problem. When i enter
à é ü ä in my flash forms, they are saved
corerctly to mySQL DB.
When i make a query and retrieve info from the DB, however,
it displays strange characters such as squares or so ...
I have put the below code in my application.cfm (i saw this
somwhere on the net, looking for a solution).
Have you experience this issue?
How can i solve it?

what encoding for the db? what db driver? should be the JDBC
& probably should
add "using useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf8" to the
driver url (advanced

in what? flash or html? squares indicate that the browser
can't render that
glyph using the current font. don't know what you mean by the

Bonjour..Problème sous CC 2014.2, calques 3D aléatoire,bug affichages,stries de pixels,artefacts! j'ai réinstallé,paramétrer mais rien ni fait je doute que cela vienne de ma configue( 3,5 GHz Intel Core i7-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 Mo)
Quelqu'un a t-il eu ce genre de problème? je précise que tous ces bug d'affichages surviennent uniquement en utilisation 3D.

Hello..Problem under CC 2014.2, random 3D layers, bug displays, streaks of pixels, artifacts! I reinstalled, set up but nothing and madeI doubt that this comes from ma configue (3.5 GHz Intel Core i7-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 M 4096 MB)
Anyone has t - had this kind of problem? I should mention that all these views bug occur only in use 3D.
