Bug: DNG Converter 8.6 ignoring XMP files

There seem to be a severe bug in Version 8.6 of the DNG Converter.
It just does not take over XMP data from sidecar files anymore into the generated DNGs.
As a result the previews embedded into the DNGs are flat as well, any former edits are not being applied.
Up to version 8.5 everything worked as expected, this behavior is new in 8.6.
I don't know, if this is the right place to ask - but Adobe, please fix this ASAP! Thank you!

  • Adobe DNG Converter can't recognize any files

    Hi All!
I'm new here and would very  much appreciate help.
I am running a Mac OS X 10.04.11 and would  like to open .CR2 files (native file from my Canon 500D) in PS4      / Bridge  CS4. My problem is that although I have downloaded the Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 5.1  update as described  here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4057,  the DNG Converter can't recognise any files at  all (they are greyed-out  when I go to select any folder). I also followed these steps from the aforementioned link (well at  least I hope I did it right, I found the reference to step 4 slightly  confusing):
To install with Adobe Creative  Suite 4 or Photoshop CS4:
Automated installation on Mac or Windows®:
    1. Select "Updates..." from the Help menu
    2. Follow the on-screen dialogs to download and  install the latest  available Camera Raw update
    Manual installation on Mac:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open the Finder.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home  folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new  folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need  to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download  into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge.
Is that version the right one for CS4?
Only Finder and the Canon Software can preview my .CR2  files, Photoshop still gives the message: "Could   not complete  your request because Photoshop does not recognise this  type of file." and   Bridge only shows me a generic RAW thumbnail. This message also  appears in PS when I double-click on the  Camera-RAW.plugin. I also  restarted my computer,  but that didn't fix it.
Can  anyone help me out please? I'd urgently need a solution.
    Thanks in advance!

I now uninstalled the older 5.1 version and  instead installed the DNG Converter 6.3 separately and it works  perfectly.
About the Camera Raw 5.6 update: I also downloaded the plug-in  (which I think should be the last version CS4 supports) and can now open  my .CR2 files in PS, Bridge previews them too. :-)
Is it advisable to keep both, .CR2 as well as .DNG files? Why is it  that my .DNG files are lighter than the native .CR2?
    Thanks again!

  • Fix for Camera Raw 5.7 ignoring .xmp files?

I have a problem, some people seem to have: From a certain date on, every sidecared .xmp gets completely ignored. Camera Raw as well as Bridge seem to ignore them. They get created, whether I open them with Bridge or CR. Someone suggested I could fix this problem by associating the CR2 Format with Bridge or Photoshop (CS4), it worked for a while... if I opened it with the Windows Explorer. Opening a CR2 with Bridge netted in the same result: .xmp gets created, but gets ignored by Bridge and Camera Raw. Now even that fix doesn't seem to work: Neither CR nor Bridge want to acknowledge the files.
Is there a fix for that I'm unaware of?
    €:
It seems I have found the problem: Someone mentioned it might have something to do with the timestamp of the files not being correct. I checked the date and time of my camera and realised I haven't changed the time, as Daylight-saving changed. Now the .xmp files read correctly. Perhaps that is some use for other people.
    €, Update2:
I checked several things: If the modified time of the file lies in the future (here 1hr.), Bridge and Camera Raw have a problem recognizing the .xmp cause it seemed to have been created before the Photo was shot/modified last time. I took the pictures at 01:05pm (the were timed at 02:05pm). CR and Bridge ignored all .xmp-files created before 2:05pm. After 02:05pm, everything worked fine again.

Good to hear that the matter is acknowledged.
I had such cases. I think it was the renaming of old files. Not sure.
Many things can go wrong. Whatever triggers it. It woulld be great to have the option (checkbox) to enforce the (re-)synchronisation of an existing xmp file with a given Raw and/or dng file.
    Best regards, Peter

  • BUG: DNG Converter doesn't adjust to increased dpi

I am using Adobe DNG Converter 6.3. My Computer runs Windows 7 x64 SP2, all updates installed.
My screen resolution is native 1920*1080 on an 18" notebook screen. Text appears very small and is hard to read, so i adjusted the dpi settings to 125%. Using these settings Adobe DNG Converter is not usable since the window is not resizable, this is definetly a bug (See screenshot, showing the main window, though DNG Converter is in German).
I do not know where to file bug reports for the DNG Converter so i post this here.
    regards, mike s.

Forget it, I got it.  Had to select the entire folder with pics to be converted, not the individual pics! Hopes this helps someone!

  • Adobe DNG Converter Problem - Won't recognise files!

    Hi
I have downloaded Adobe Digital Negative Converter as a way of converting Nikon NEF files from a Nikon D3000 to DNG so I can edit them in Photoshop CS3. Currently the images from the D3000 won't open in CS3.
When using the DNG converter, on clicking on the 'Covert' button it is coming up with the following error message:
"The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files". The source folder I have selected contains the Nikon D300 NEF raw images I have downloaded from the camera.
Any help on this would be gratefully received. Am I carrying out the process as I should do? I cannot see that I am doing anything wrong!
    Many thanks
    Carl

You must be using an older version of the DNG converter. Click on the button "About DNG converter...", it should show 5.6. something, or higher.
    Download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

  • How do I get latest DNG converter to recognize Fuji RAF files?

So, I run Macbook Pro.  Snow Leopard 10.6.8  Downloaded latest version of Adobe DNG.  It won't recognize any raw files.  Including Fuji XE 2 raw.  I thought it should be able to.  The XE 2 is listed as a supported camera.
My hope was to convert the XE 2 raw files to DNG to open in LR 4
What am I missing?  Thanks for any responses.

The most common problem new users have with the DNG converter is when they browse using the converter to locate their raw files. Often they will double-click on the folder containing their raw files and will be notified that there are no files to convert. The key to using the DNG converter is to choose the FOLDER containing the raw files, but don't open that folder. When you choose the folder then the DNG converter will convert all raw files in that folder and put them wherever you choose to have them put. If you only want to convert certain files then you need to locate those files with the DNG converter closed (not running) and drag/drop those specific raw files onto the icon for the DNG converter. If either one of these suggestions don't help then please let us know and we will try to figure out what is happening.

  • How do I open RAW images from T1-XMG CR2?  Adobe DNG converter will not recognize these files.   HELP?

How do I open RAW images with T1-XMG CR2? I have adobe DNG converter but it will not recognize these images.  I have had no problem with converting other images.  and ACR will not recognize them either.  Help!@

The screenshot did come through once I added the period between dropbox and com, making URL:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/o7q829t2n3uuuqg/screenshot%202014-07-01%2012.36.28.png
The screenshot shows the first raw file is named T1-XMG_3306.CR2 which probably corresponds to a normal raw filename of IMG_3306.CR2.  It is not clear where this name came from.  I guess it is possible that you’ve entered in a renaming template in LR’s Import panel that replaces the initial I or _ with T1-XM and so the files are renamed.
What I have asked for is not a screenshot of your filenames, but one of the CR2 files, itself, which you can upload to dropbox and post a link to.  You should use copy/paste to get the link into a message, rather than typing it in, if at all possible.
This is because it was my understanding that these oddly-named CR2 files don’t work, and I wanted to look more closely at them to see if they were recognizable as some other type of file.
Do you have a raw file named IMG_3306.CR2 that these files correspond to?

  • DNG Converter Doesn't Recognize RAF Files

I work in RAW with a Fujifilm X-E1, and Photoshop CS3. Since I got the camera almost a year ago, I have been successfully able to convert RAF files to DNG files using the Adobe DNG Converter so that I can use the files with CS3 - until I downloaded the latest version of the firmware for the X-E1.   Now DNG does not see the RAF files, so I can't convert them.   When I point DNG Converter to the folder with the RAF files downloaded from the camera, Converter says "No items match your search," but the files are definitely there.   I am using the latest version of DNG Converter (8.2).   What is wrong?

Actually I found the problem in an earlier post.   If I point DNG Converter to the correct folder, it will convert the files in the folder even though it doesn't show the individual file names on the screen.  Silly programming, but that's how DNG works now, I guess.

  • I edited RAW files as DNG's and need the xmp files- are they embedded in the DNG files?

I was editing for someone else and the like the xmp files to see the RAW adjustments- I edited them as DNG because that is how I'm used to doing it. Now I know but they want me to supply the xmp files which did not write. Is there a wat to do this or do I need to re edit them as RAW's?

DNG files don't have XMP sidecar files. Everything is written to the header of the DNG. And as far as Lightroom goes, It will be necessary for you to specifically write the data to XMP files. Otherwise the adjustments will only be stored in the catalog.

  • Can anyone use DNG Converter 8.3 with ARW files?

Just from installed DNG Converter 8.3 on my MAC running Mavericks and it installed and runs OK.  Problem is I wanted to convert Sony ARW files to DNG from my A7R.  Adobe states support for A7R but when I select a directory containing ARW files they are all greyed out.  Anyone got this to work?  Am I doing something stupid?

It does recognize all raw files up to the latest group of cameras, but the preferences must be set to create a .dng file that is compatible with your version of Photoshop.
Perhaps I misunderstood your original post - I interpreted it to say the DNG converter created .dng files, but they were not readable by Photoshop.

  • Ignoring XMP File in PS "Automate" Function

I have an action that converts RAW (CR2) files to JPEG files while adding several water marks to each file.  I use the File-->Automate command to do this.  The RAW files are put in a separate folder which then contains both the CR2 and XMP files.  The Automate command runs fine but at the end of the Automate run, I get an error message that essentially says that the action could not process the XMP files.  That's not a big deal because the RAW files were correctly converted, but is there a way to keep "Automate" from trying to process the XMP files (which MUST be in the folder with the CR2 files in order for my edits to take effect.)?  I would like to keep the XMP files as "side car" rather than embedded.

In the automate>batch dialog, at the bottom where it says:
Log errors to file, change this to stop for errors and see if that
    helps.
If that does not work, you might try the image processor, under the scripts menu.
If you use the image processor, uncheck the save step in your action.
You can specify a save format in the image processor dialog.

  • Will the dng converter deal with CR2 raw files from Canon 7D?

Mine does not. If there is an upgrade, please remind me where to obtain it.
    Thank you -- ML

Yes, the Canon 7D has been supported since version 5.6.
You should always use the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, currently version 6.2.

  • DNG Converter 6.4 does not recognize any RAW files

    Hi,
I have updated DNG Converter from 6.2 RC to 6.3 and 6.4. DNG Converter 6.2 RC from Adobe Labs recognizes all my RAW files (Canon PowerShot S50, PowerShot SX1IS, EOS 400D). The official releases of 6.3 and 6.4 do not recognize any RAW files of these cameras.
I select a directory, where the raw files are located, but DNG Converter tells me that no files where selected. With 6.2 RC, I select the directory and everything just works fine.
    What's wrong with this picture?

    Ahh, I forgot:
System is Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, patched up to date.

  • DNG Converter Not Recognizing .CR2 Files

I have a new Canon EOS 5D Mark II and CS3, so I cannot view the CR2 files from the 5D in Bridge in their native format.  I read all the posts and upgraded to ACR 4.6, then upgraded the camera profiles to those in the ACR 5.2 package (the one that includes the 5D Mark II).
I then read that I need the DNG Converter to generate DNG files from the CR2 files, so I have installed DNG 6.3.
Problem now is that the DNG Converter will not recognize any CR2 files on my machine, neither the new 5D Mark II CR2 files of my old Rebel CR2 files.  When I navigate to a folder containing CR2 files with DNG it says "No images have been selected" in the "Select images to convert" section of the GUI.
I have no idea what to do, I need to get the DNG Converter working to view the files from my new camera in Bridge.  Help!

I wish I could say your solution worked - but it didn't! I have a Canon T2i, the very latest version of the  Adobe "converter" (8.4) - and it refuses to recognize/find any Canon RAW (i.e. CR2) files. My desktop is 2 years old with lot of horsepower, Win 7, plain vanilla etc.
Step 1: Folder Selected ("Bonaire 2006")
    folder selected.jpg
    2. When I press "Convert", I get:
    No CR2 files recognized.jpg
    Another view of the problem:
after getting this: (BTW "Bonaire" is stuffed with CR2 files). Same problem all folders
no items match your search - say what.jpg
I've used a thousand utility programs for any number of purposes - something is amiss here - prompts or not!
