BUG: DNG Converter doesn't adjust to increased dpi

I am using Adobe DNG Converter 6.3. My Computer runs Windows 7 x64 SP2, all updates installed.
My screen resolution is native 1920*1080 on an 18" notebook screen. Text appears very small and is hard to read, so i adjusted the dpi settings to 125%. Using these settings Adobe DNG Converter is not usable since the window is not resizable, this is definetly a bug (See screenshot, showing the main window, though DNG Converter is in German).
I do not know where to file bug reports for the DNG Converter so i post this here.
regards, mike s.

Forget it, I got it.  Had to select the entire folder with pics to be converted, not the individual pics! Hopes this helps someone!

  • DNG Converter Doesn't Recognize RAF Files

I work in RAW with a Fujifilm X-E1, and Photoshop CS3. Since I got the camera almost a year ago, I have been successfully able to convert RAF files to DNG files using the Adobe DNG Converter so that I can use the files with CS3 - until I downloaded the latest version of the firmware for the X-E1.   Now DNG does not see the RAF files, so I can't convert them.   When I point DNG Converter to the folder with the RAF files downloaded from the camera, Converter says "No items match your search," but the files are definitely there.   I am using the latest version of DNG Converter (8.2).   What is wrong?

Actually I found the problem in an earlier post.   If I point DNG Converter to the correct folder, it will convert the files in the folder even though it doesn't show the individual file names on the screen.  Silly programming, but that's how DNG works now, I guess.

  • Bug: DNG Converter 8.6 ignoring XMP files

There seem to be a severe bug in Version 8.6 of the DNG Converter.
It just does not take over XMP data from sidecar files anymore into the generated DNGs.
As a result the previews embedded into the DNGs are flat as well, any former edits are not being applied.
Up to version 8.5 everything worked as expected, this behavior is new in 8.6.
I don't know, if this is the right place to ask - but Adobe, please fix this ASAP! Thank you!

Thank you Rob and done: Bug in DNG Converter 8.6 - XMP data does not get applied

  • DNG Converter Doesn't Recognize NEF for D7000

I have been lon time user of Adobe DNG Converter with Olympus E-500 but I recently got the new Nikon D7000. I have Elements 9 and I am using DNG Converter 6.3.0.79. I download the Elments Verison of the Camera Raw update that came out in December 2010. When I open up my DNG Converter it doesn't recognize any of the NEF files on my camera. I must missing somthing but not sure what it might be. Do I need to add a profile somewhere for it to see the NEF extention? I am bit at a loss.
    Thanks for any help

What do you mean by reinstall? Do I reinstall PSE 9 and then apply the patch or do I just do the patch again? I have installed the patch a couple of times and nothing is different. There is something wrong with the installation because now my Olympus RAW files do not show up either and they did as of yesterday prior to the installation of the 6.3 update.
And yes I can load the NEF into Elements but I like the batch convert option for RAW files.
    Thanks everyone for your help.

  • Adobe DNG converter doesn't work.

I tried reinstal DNG converter many times and i instal latest GPU driver, but still not working.
always i saw only this and i can't click to browse or to any other button.
I have win 7 (64.bit) and last DNG converter (8.7)

Definitely a video driver problem, then.
Go update your video driver from the web site of the manufacturer of your video card, not through Windows Update or the MS site, those are nearly always outdated.

  • Bug in Adobe DNG Converter 7.2 RC

Adobe DNG Converter 7.2 RC (for Windows) keeps missing files. When pointing it at a folder containing many raw image files to convert (and providing a different folder as the destination for the converted files) then it won't always find all the raw files. There are no files besides the raw image files in the folder ... umm, with the possible exception of the hidden Bridge cache files, .BridgeCache and .BridgeCacheT. The destination folder initially is empty.
When this happens then I have to re-do the conversion, with the same source and destination folders selected and the Skip source file if destination file exists check-box ticked. Then DNG Converter will collect and convert the raw image files it missed in the first run. So far, I never had to perform a third run, but I frequently have to do two runs to get a folder's raw files converted. For example, in my most recent attempt there where 966 raw image files in the source folder (of the type Sony ARW, along with XMP sidecar files), and DNG Converter found 954 files in the first run and the remaining 12 in the second. The bug also occurs when the folder contains mixed types (Sony ARW and Leica DNG in my case). There is no error message or any other kind of hint that something is going wrong, so you have to check the result manually. The status line at the top of the Conversion Status window teling the number of files to convert will report the number found; if that's less than the number of raw image files available then you'll have to start a second run when the first is finished. It's easy to miss the problem, and then you may end up with some files not converted!
So far, the bug inevitably occurs when there are many raw image files in the source folder—i. e. more than 400 (and up to 1,200). When doing several attempts on the same source folder then the set of missed files will vary, i. e. it's not always the same files that get missed. It is not even always the same number; the number of missing files varies between, say, 5 and 20, i. e. approx. 0.5 - 5 % of the number of files in the folder. It seems that if the number of raw image files in the source folder is small (say, less than 300) then the bug does not happen. In my last successful attempt, I converted 263 files of type Leica DNG, and DNG Converter found them all on the first attempt.

Does it matter what hard-drives the files are on, whether they are missed?
No, it doesn't. There are two physical SATA hard-disk drives installed in my machine, and the error occurs no matter where the source files are. It also does not matter where the destination folder is. Usually it's on an external 3.5" drive connected via USB 2.0, but I also tried the internal drives, to no avail.
    ssprengel wrote:
Does an older DNG Converter also miss files?
Gosh! To my surprise, yes it does! I just tried DNG Converter 7.1, 6.7, and 6.6, and they miss files just like 7.2 RC does. They didn't back when they were current ... or at least, I never noticed.
This seems to indicate that the culprit is not DNG Converter 7.2 RC but my machine. But then, my machine and the hard-disk drives (including the external 2 TB 3.5" USB drive) are the very same I am using for years now. I didn't change the operating system; it still is Windows XP SP3. I am also still using the same cameras as I always did for years now. The only significant things that changed recently (besides DNG Converter) are Photoshop 13.0.1 and Bridge 5.0.1.

Hi,  I've just purchased and installed an upgrade from Lightroom 4 to 5.  It doesn't seem to handle raw files authored with a new Nikon D750 camera.  I spoke to the sales rep about this and he gave me a link to the 8.6 DNG converter page with instructions to download.  8.6 only works with Mac OS 10.7-10.9, according to the page.  I'm running Yosemite, Mac 10.10.  Please can you tell me my options?  Lightroom 4 worked beautifully with my older cameras' raw files so I would like to continue using the application.  What should I do?  How soon will Lightroom 5 be able to deal with raw files from a D750.  Many thanks, Adam.

Until the next version of Lightroom is released, you need to use the DNG Converter version 8.7RC to convert your RAW photos to DNG and then import the DNGs into Lightroom.

  • I have a Canon 6d and would like to convert my raw ( CR2) photo's into dng files. Adobe DNG converter 8.4 doesn't recognise the CR2 files. How can i solve this?

i have a Canon 6d and would like to convert my raw ( CR2) photo's into dng files. Adobe DNG converter 8.4 doesn't recognise the CR2 files. How can i solve this?

It is possible that you are not following instructions correctly in the DNG converter. The DNG converter interface asks for the FOLDER that contains your raw images. Choose the folder, but don't open it. After you have chosen the folder, click on the Convert button. The DNG conversion process should start.  Does that help you?

  • BUG? "Convert to DNG" is not skipping current DNG but instead converting DNG to DNG.

I selected 50k images to convert from NEF to DNG. After DNG conversion, I have it selected to delete the NEF. Among the NEF in the archive are DNGs that were previously converted by LR upon import. ISSUE: I'm seeing DNG files in the trash (mac 10.9.3) meaning LR is not skipping the current DNG files but actually converting the DNG to a new DNG then trash the original DNG. This has to be a bug.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37390809/dng-to-dng.mov [35MB] (in action - select DNG, "convert to DNG", DNG is made and original tossed in trash)

OK - It makes sense that LR would convert a DNG to a new DNG if it's
    1) going from lossless to lossy
    2) if the embedded JPG preview changes (xmp changes require JPG update OR JPG embed size has changed)
Hope that Adobe considers ammending the spec or using the spec to check for flags that would note what state the current DNG is and compare to the command given so that DNG->DNG conversion when "convert RAW files" is selected would SKIP over files that already fit the target output.
My current solution is to simply filter my library for "file type" = Raw then apply DNG conversion to this filetype effectively skipping all DNG files in my 200,000 shot archive.

  • Loupe in Bridge doesn't display DNG images created using DNG Converter correctly. Why?

I have noticed recently an anomaly in Bridge when viewing DNG files that are created by converting my Nikon NEF files to DNG using the DNG converter. Specifically, when clicking on the preview image of a DNG file, in order to open the loupe, the 100% image seen in the loupe remain fuzzy, whereas when clicking on a preview of the original NEF file the 100% view in the loupe is sharp and clear.
I am using DNG Converter version 4.6.0.3, and it also occurs when using version 4.4.1. I am using Bridge version 2.1.1.9.
I have no reason to believe that Bridge is at fault, since the loupe function does work properly when viewing the NEF file. It would seem that there's a problem in the DNG conversion.
However, despite this anomaly seen in Bridge, when I open the DNG file in Camera Raw, it is perfectly normal at 100% or any magnification.
I have tried re-setting the JPEG review size in the DNG converter, but that makes no difference.
What's going on here? I don't want to keep both the NEF and DNG versions, for reasons of space, but I'd like the loupe to work correctly. Help, please?

Try to recreate the thumbnails for that folder.
Use the latest version of the converter (5.4)

  • Preferences Change in DNG Converter 4.6 Doesn't Persist

I am using DNG Converter v4.6.0.30 on a Mac running OS X 10.6.2 and I'm noticing that preference changes do not persist in the next session.  I'm trying to change "embed original RAW file" and the next time I run the program, the setting is unchecked.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program (moving the preference file to a difference location).  After reinstalling the application, there is no preference file in the ~/library/preferences folder.
I checked the contents of the com.adobe.DNGConverter.plist file and it only contained items pertaining to Default Folder X (for example, one of the items was DefaultFolderX:NSNavOpenPanel:column.width).  I relaunched DNG Converter and the preference file was created, but it only contained one item - bplist00—_&NSNavBrowserPreferedColumnContentWidth#@g@.  I reopened DNG Converter and selected "embed original RAW file" and then closed the application.  I checked the preference file and it still did not have anything pertaining to "embed original RAW file."
How can I get DNG Converter to "remember" the preferences I selected?
    Thanks,
    Rocky

You do need ACR 8.4 for the A5000.   I would buy Elements from Adobe not the Mac app store so upgrades work better.
The DNG Converter should work, though.  You need to single-click on the folder with the raw files in it, rather than open it to reveal the raw files.  They are grayed out because the DNGC needs to work with a FOLDER not a file, so if you can see the files, then you’ve clicked down into the folder and go back up one, and just select the folder name.

  • Photoshop CS3 doesn't open dng-files converted with the adobe dng converter 7.4

    Hey Guys,
i got a new camera - sony alpha a57 - which produces arw-files. for being able to work with these pictures on my photoshop cs3 I converted the arw-files to dng-files. now adobe bridge shows only the converted dng-signs, but I can't open them to work on them.
does anyone have an idea what I could do to use these files?
    thanx,

    Hi,
Sometimes when using the dng converter one needs to set the compatibility settings to the version of camera raw you want to open the files with.

  • Confused - DNG Converter RC for RAW files from d810 - doesn't work...

    hi everyone -
sorry for the stupid question, but i've never had to do this before. i read somewhere here that if you download camera raw 8_6 and dng converter 8_6 you can convert raw files from d810. i just tried that with the dng converter and it says that the files are not recognized.
what am i doing wrong? can someone help me figure this out?
    many thanks in advance.

The first thing to point out is that the release candidate will not recognize the new small raw format. You'll have to shoot the full-sized raw images. The other thing to be aware of is that, in the DNG converter, when being prompted for the location of your raw images, it is asking for the FOLDER. Choose the folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter will convert the raw files contained within that folder.
If you want to shoot TIF, you would probably have better image data to work with than you would with JPEG images. But it still wouldn't be as flexible, and you wouldn't have as many options as you would shooting raw. Try the DNG converter with my suggestions and see if it works for you.

  • DNG converter 7.1 doesn't see  NEF files

I've been using a previous version (4.5) of the DNG Convertor without any problems.
    I downloaded 7.1 version after buying a Nikon D800.
However when navigating to folders the program sees NO  files (D800, Nikon  D3, RAW, jpg.  or otherwise) saying "no items match your search" once the folder is opened.
Please help.  Computer is Windows PC running Vista Home Premium.

    Jim,
Please see my response to your answer on the adjacent posting - just to reiterate, I can see and try to select a folder I know to contain NEFs, but the program says "no folder selected" so that's that basically it and I can go no further. I've been using an earlier version of the dng converter which behaves in the way you outline with no problems at all. However I need the new version for D800 NEFs. I've tried to post a screenshot of the window where I select a folder. - I see the image isn't very clear but I've selected a folder outlined in blue on the left in the browsing window and the large window says "no items match your search"

  • I downloaded DNG Converter 8.7 and as a standalone app it doesn't see RAW files from my 7D Mark 2.

I don't want to upgrade from Elements 11 yet.
When I got my 60D I had to install the DNG converter and after a few uses, Elements 11 started to see them too.
    On a 64 bit Win7 PC.

When you use Select the images to convert, you don't want to actually open the folder, just click on the name of the folder in Content Pane of windows explore, not in the Navigation Pane.
