  • Can't get "Edit Colors" to work in Illustrator CC

Hi. My boss just added Illustrator CC to my mac.
I'm not sure why, but I can't get "Edit Colors" to work in Illustrator CC.
When I select an object and try to reassign colors in the "Edit Colors" menu, the submenus are greyed out.
It works fine on Illustrator CS5, so I'm not sure what the problem is in CC.
Is this a bug or just a limitation of the CC trial period?
Can anyone please help with this?

OK, so Trial Period isn't the problem? Thanks for that info.
I'm working with customer supplied files and often have to reassign colors to artwork for different projects.
I can assign colors with the color panel, but complex designs containing multiple pieces and layers can take for-ev-er to reassign colors that way.
Like I said, "edit colors" works fine in CS5, so I'm trying to figure out why it's not working in CC.
Appreciate any help the forum members can provide.

  • Junk Mail: applying custom rules disables junk database

Using default settings my junk mail filter works most of the time. But there are several persistent streams of spam that never get recognized as junk, and custom rules would identify them easily. But everytime I try, suddenly all the other junk that was being flagged comes through to my in box. I've selected "Trust junk mail headers in messages" and "Filter junk mail before applying my rules" but it has no effect.
Also, the minute I add custom rules, "Erase Junk Mail" greys out and cannot be selected anymore. I have to first send my junk box to trash, then erase my trash.
I've read the help files and they don't address this at all. (Same problem in 10.6)

Don't have 3.0 on my computer but go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences.
The click on Junk Mail then on Advanced and see what color is chosen in the setting and the conditions under which it is set.

  • Illustrator CC: Changing Document Color Mode + Edit Colors

Let's say I'm going to export a PNG.
If I switch the Document Color Mode from CMYK to RGB, IS IT THEN NECESSARY to also Edit/Edit Colors/Convert to RGB, if I'm just going to select each element and assign specific RGB values anyway?
In other words, is simply switching the Document Color Mode to RGB sufficient before manually assigning specific RGB values?
I'm thinking Edit/Edit Colors/Convert to RGB or CMYK is just relying on Illustrator's best judgment. Am I correct?

Color management needs to be set up in a way that it works as you want it to. Don't turn it off.
BTW: actually you can't turn it off. It is so deeply integrated in modern software that it will always work somehow.
Have all the numbers you set up in your colors be transferred correctly into the PNGs? Then don't worry.
When converting your document from CMYK to RGB all color values get converted: object colors as well as swatches. No need to use the Edit colors function.
When using File > convert to RGB resp CMYK document color mode, Illustrator applies the rules you have set up in Edit > color settings. That is: the profiles, the conversion engine, the intent.
Change one of the settings and you get different colors.
If you need to use specific RGB values, first convert the document color mode, then set up the color swatches and apply them to the objects.

  • Custom rule unexpected behaviour ("check comments demo")

The standard "check comments demo" of DM3, via Tools > Design Rules > Custom rules.
That rule fires on all tables. The warning is a bit unusual. It's the name of the rule, but I have been expecting one of the ruleMessage-s that are programmed in the code...
    See the screen [http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/8080/20110530163257001.jpg|http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/8080/20110530163257001.jpg]
Can you help me fix that?

I see you have copied text from library and put it as script. Script and library are used/evaluated in different way - function has return statement, last expression is taken as return value for script.
In your case - you just need to invoke the function defined (you have definition, no usage):
    checkcomments(table);

  • Conserving black limit on output with Edit Colors

    Hi there,
I'd like to try and solve a problem I often face when I come to ouput my illustrations..
Normally, what will do is go into inDesign and look check the black seperations at 300% and if there is too much black present I create a selective colours layer in photoshop and reduce the blacks levels.. but using this technique I find that a lot of the image detail is lost (the blacks become grey and the whole contrast of the image is flattened)
After searching around I've seen in Photoshop that it's possible to change the colour profile preferences (Edit > Colour) then the drop down next to the CMYK profile and then personalise (I hope this is the correct translation but something to that effect)
Once I enter the CMYK personalise settings I'm presented with the curves showing the ink limits (the default total ink value is 300%)
The problem is that once I apply the profile to my saved TIFF and re-import it into inDesign there are still black areas at over 300%.
Is there a way to limit the black density to 300% using this or another technique ?
    Thanks in advance

I’m afraid you might be misunderstand some things.
If by »Edit > Colour« you mean »Edit > Color Settings« that will refer to a subsequent change of Color Mode, for example when changing an RGB-image to CMYK with Image > Mode > CMYK Color.
If you want to change an image’s profile you should instead use Edit > Convert to Profile.
But those custom profiles are usually pretty unsatisfactory.
It would be better to use a decent proper ICC-profile; for the FOGRA standard (relevant in Europe) for example there are versions available with 300% Total Area Coverage.
But if you work on CMYK files you always risk exceeding the TAC with Blend Modes, Adjustments etc.
So you might want to consider working in a proper RGB-file and separating a copy at the end or even placing the RGB-image and separating on pdf-Export in Indesign.
Could you post a sample image?

  • Feature Request: Custom Rule

    Hi,
I like to see a new feature in Adobe Kuler. Kuler allows us to create custom color shemes ignoring the rules such as analogous, monochromatic, triad etc. But once we swtich to Custom rule, all handles will start to move freely and there is no option available to lock the handles and then rotate to define more schemes based on the same custom rule. It will be even better if we can save a particular rule as we save the color schemes.

+1 for this. There should be a lock next to the colorwheel which would freeze or unfreeze the position of the arms so that one could first set the color positions in custom-mode, then click the lock and be able to rotate the entire setup (rule) around the colorwheel, as is possible with the other modes.

  • Custom Rules Engine

Is there a good pattern that I could follow to create my own rules engine. My requirement is that I have a lot of business rules, but since they are kind of static I don't see the need to use a rules engine. These rules don't change and I need high performance. I want to write my own custom rules engine. Are there any sample designs or code that is available anywhere or could someone suggest how I should go about creating my own rules engine which can be maintained easily and also allows some flexibility.
    Thanks
    aaugusty

    Hi aaugusty,
My requirement is that I have a lot of business rules, but since they are kind of static I don't see the need to use a rules engine. These rules don't change and I need high performance.
The default thinking of Rules has been usage of XML. So that we separate the static data from logic. Although the rules are etched in stone, they are easily readable and editable.
I want to write my own custom rules engine.
Persoanally written/owned rules engine means maintenance cost is more. Performance will be more at the start. Might deteriorate during maintenance.
Are there any sample designs or code that is available anywhere
A search in google got me a lot of links. See if you find this useful
    http://www.fawcette.com/javapro/2003_08/online/xml_yboglaev_08_01_03/
Looks like java has a Rule Engine API as a R&D work.
or could someone suggest how I should go about creating my own rules engine
The above answer holds good for this too.
which can be maintained easily and also allows some flexibility. "
I tried to do something like this using only java code. After finishing the voluminous work. I was given a lateral thinking of using a script engine!!!!! What I say could be non conventional, but its really a crisp work. You can have rules data coming from XML and java scriptlets doing all of the simple logics using those data. Processing of your data and script is done by a Script engine. The output may be in xml. There are Script Engines available for download. That satisfies your requirement of creating, maintaing and operating RULES. There need not be an engine at all. And not much java too. Easy to manitain and higly flexible. Because you are using only xml and scripts.
    Good luck.

  • Custom Rule - Problem in passin values From Rule Container to WF Container?

    Hi Guys,
I am having hard time passing values back from my custom rule. I have created a custom rule to determine the agents in PFAC which takes in the Person number as import element of container. It determines the Manager as agent and I am passing Managers Person Number back to workflow. If he dont approve the Request then it will be passed to his boss. In this case I will pass this imported Mangers Person number back to rule so that his boss will be determined as agent. I  have created ZRULE function module. I am passing value back from Rule container to Workflow Container using following code.
    swc_set_element ac_container 'SUPERPERNR'  lf_super_pernr.
I have created a element SUPERPERNR on rule container and workflow container as well .The problem is in the Rule container I am not able to create SUPERPERNR as export parameter. The tick mark is grayed out and there is no option for setting it as export.
My question is do I have create a Export element on Rule container or Not? If i just write the code
( swc_set_element ac_container 'SUPERPERNR'  lf_super_pernr ) will it set the value in WF container? In my case it is not setting. I have to bind the values from rule container to WF container and if My rule container element is not allowing me to click the tick mark as export how can i pass value of of rule container back to WF Container?
    Please help me guys.
    Thanks,
    Manish.

    Hi Manish,
Same scenario I have developed in my system. This all steps I did in my system.
    1) Created a Z function module which takes import parameter (Parameter name = 'EMP') in the
        format 'US100123'.
    2) This in turn fetches back the supevisor or boss as an export parameter (Parameter name = 'BOSS') in
         the format 'US100245'.
    3) This function module is attached to a BUS object(SWO1).
    4) While attaching this function module to BUS object you need not do any manual coding it is done
        automatically.
    5) Implement, release and generate this BUS object.
    6) Create a new variable in your workflow (Parameter name = 'ZSUPERVISOR') for storing the value
which is returned by the Z method.
    7) Create a new task.
    8) Put in your BUS object name, then your Z method name, select background processing checkbox.
    9) Press save, it will ask for transfer of missing elements, select yes.
    10) Then you will see a green button below your Z method name click on it.
    11) Top portion contains your Z method variables, below to it you have the import parameter window in
this window you should have &EMP& -> &EMP&., below to import parameter window you have
export parameter window in this window you should have &BOSS& <- &BOSS&. (This is method
          binding).
    12) Now click on enter button then click on back button it will generate the task binding automatically
         just press yes.
    13) Now click on binding exist button.
    14) Here you have the Workflow container variables as well as the system container variables.
    15) In the import parameter window left portion is for your workflow variables and right portion is for your
method variables. In my case i had sent workflow initiator and fetched his supervisor. The Import
parameter binding was &WF_INTIATOR& -> &EMP&. and the export parameter binding part was
          &ZSUPERVISOR& <- &BOSS&.
    16) Save the task and run the workflow.
    Regards.

  • How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text?

How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text? Please help! I'm technologically challenged.

Most forms (99% or more) are created for simple text input, where you cannot change anything.
The creator of the form could allow Rich Text input (which allows you to change font, text size, color, etc.), but frankly I have never seen such a form, and I wouldn't know how they look.  But I'm sure they would show some kind of controls to alter the text appearance.

  • Looking for Pre-Rendered Editing / Color Grading Workflow suggestions.

Looking for Pre-Rendered Editing / Color Grading Workflow suggestions.
All my material is rendered via RenderMan, our resolution is 1280x544, and our format is generally .exr in 32 bit space.
Our editor has been converting over to 32-bit tiffs, and using Apple Intermediate Codec for editing, mostly for speed concerns.
We need to re-vamp our workflow so that we can edit our footage, and then do color grading of the edit head to tail to smooth the look between scenes. We want to do this in Color, being fed by Final Cut Pro's timeline.
We want to keep our bit depth as high as possible when coming into Color.
My question is, does anyone here have any workflow suggestions for doing what I am talking about.
I wasn't sure if we should just export and EDL from FCP and try to get Color to load our single frames from that. Or if there is a special Quicktime wrapper we should be using, or converting our 32-bit .exr files into some other format more readily available for using in Color?
Any thoughts would be great, thanks in advance!

You're not going to get anywhere beyond 10-bit. That's it.
Try encoding to 10-bit LOG dpx if you need upscale RGB.

  • When i am trying to edit the Variable in the Business Rule?

    Hai Guys,
When i am trying to edit the Variable in the Business Rule , I am getting String Error Message? Guys any one have any idea about the String Error Message

Oh, so you're talking about an Essbase substitution variable.
Try to surround the variable value with double quotes if it contains spaces.
It's weird because its supposed to accept any value.

  • Non-editable Color for TextInput

    Hi,
Is it possible to set up, in a CSS, the backgroundColor of a
    readonly text input?
So whenever it's set to readonly (editable=false) its
    background will automatically
change to the color set up in the CSS.
I want to do something like this:
    TextInput{
    theme-color:haloGreen;
    color:#005FA9;
    readonly-color:0xF5F5F5; // or "non-editable-color"
    Cheers,
    Jarrod...

you must completely fill in the background in a non-opaque color.
I doubt the 'non-opaque color' part might be a typoI think it is a typo, otherwise, like you, I don't know what they are trying to say.
Just using setOpaque(true), does NOT make a component opaque. It simply tells the the RepaintManger not to search the ancestor tree to find an opaque component. This makes painting more efficient if it doesn't need to search all the way up to the content pane of the window. By setting the opaque property you are guaranteeing that the component will paint its own background in an opaque color.
For example a JPanel is opaque and its paintComponent() method will invoke the fillRect(...) method to paint the background whatever color is specified by the setBackground() method.
So if you do panel.setBackground(Color,RED) this is valid.
However, if you do panel.setBackground( new Color(255, 0, 0, 128) ); this is invalid because you have set a background with an alpha value that results in a transparent color. In this case you will generally see artifacts in the background of the panel. If you want to do this, then you must also use setOpaque(false), so that the background of the ancestor component is painted first.

Fixed an incorrect reference from "non-opaque" to "opaque".

    Hi,
Document Number and Document Type are the input paramers for my custom Rule ,
When documents changes Based on condition(RA orVA) Only my workflow needs to be trigger. for that i have provided the condition in Basic data tab of my workflow. after that if it is a RA send a mail vendor (one activity step and i have used this step as Background) then it should go for PR USER  for Approval( for that i have created one Custom Rule and  mentioned in user decision tab).
I have passed binding form workflow to Rule  Document Number , and Document Type.
Swhactor table i am using in rule.. am geting the correct USER here when i simulte(test this RULE).
What is the relation from event contaner to workflow container here?
    Regards,
    Siva
