Bug found on ovi suite 2.2.1.23

xp... logged in with a limited account... 5230 v21.0.004... connected by bluetooth
if i check for updates the software give always no updates to install
works well if ovi suite runs under an administrator account

Hey rainbowcrypt,
i feel this is not a bug as we do have some .jar and .jad software installation files available to install in Symbian phones thru ovisuite. This might be the reason for associating the .jar files to ovisuite. As satari told either you could use 'open with' to change the application you use everytime. Or in the same 'open with' option you have one more option to use the same application everytime you use. In this way you can permanently make the .jar files to be opened in java and not in ovisuite.

  • Ovi Suite sync issues

My N95 and PC Suite sync'ed perfectly, then came Ovi. What a pain, however I got used to it.
In the last week I have installed the latest bug fix for Ovi Suite. Now my phone will not sync. Ovi suite sees the phone, and I can message etc from my PC keyboard, but Ovi suite just sits inert when asked to sync. It shows in the various boxes "waiting to sync" but just does nothing and frquently hangs.
    Any solution?

    Hi All,
Please read my post in following link for a workaround to this sync issue.

  • Ovi suite, picture sync, lost gps data

To organize photos in my computer I'm using Picasa.
When I synchronized images with PC Suite 7, they keep the GPS data, and Picasa (and me) can see where I've shot these pictures.
When I synchronized pictures with OVI suite, the GPS data is lost. Picasa does not recognize them at least ...
    Does anyone know a solution?

I have heard that Nokia is fixing this in near future update. So, the solution seems to be "a fix to a bug in new Ovi Suite version".

  • N86 noted detected by OVI Suite, Nokia Music, Noki...

I bought a N86 8MP 3 days back and the package came with OVI Suite DVD. This DVD installed the below software on my PC:
    Nokia Ovi Suite 1.1.243
    Nokia Photos v 1.6.103
    Nokia Music v 1.1.11203.00
My PC satisfies the system requirements for OVI Suite and runs Windows XP SP3.
While OVI Suite seems to detect the phone & displays the Memory status, the Nokia Photos & Nokia Music do not even detect the phone.
I also found that OVI Suite compatibility page on Nokia website not listing N86 8MP as compatible phone... Is that true?
If that is true, why is OVI Suite DVD bundled with N86 8MP Package?
What should I do to resolve so that I can start transferring contents between PC & N86?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shankar

Thanks Cricfancy -- Your response helped... Tried with the latest download of both OVI Suite 2.0 as well as PC Suite 7.1.
The Phone is getting detected properly and so the basic issue seem to be resolved.
The next issue I now have is:
Issue#1: I tried "Copy to Device" option in OVI Suite 2.0's Nokia Music module to copy few MP3s from my PC onto my N86 Phone but it keeps giving an error as "could not be transferred".
I have tried this using both PC Suite USB mode as well as Media Transfer USB mode.
Other details are same as available on the initial post -- I have Win XP SP3 as OS.
Does Nokia Music require specific media file format to transfer from PC to Phone?
Does MP3 files need to be converted?
Issue#2: I used Mass Storage USB option and copied these MP3 files onto the Music directory onto the 8GB memory.
On the N86 phone, I'm able to use "Applications" ==> "Office" ==> "File Mgr" ==> "Mass Memory" ==> Navigate to Music folder ==> Open the specific MP3 and play.
But now I need to physically navigate thru the above path and select each media file individually -- can't get them playing one after another or access thru the Music Player !
How do I configure these media files within Music folder to be accessible from the Music Player within N86 phone?
    Is that not possible?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shankar

  • Nokia Ovi Suite 2,2,0,245... bugs anyone??

This 2,2,0,245  version is an improvement..  Connectivity issues are less likely. More CPU friendly. et many bugs to be still fixed..
I am running an X6  with this version of suite.
    Gripes
Music, It takes hours to transfer my music  that i can transfer via USB file transfer in minutes.
Maps, i went on holidays O/S so i loaded a new country.. the only way i can remove that country is to wipe the whole lot of my maps and voices and re download there isn't an uninstall option.. i am not worried about bandwidth but for users on capped internet plans or slow connections this isn't good..
    Update screen
It tells me that i have an update available for Shazam..  i attempt to install the update but receive an error screenafter downloading..

Tech News - July 23 Nokia chief talks about future and losses
NOKIA chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has urged an end to speculation surrounding his future at the company.
The call came as the world's largest mobile phone maker said its second-quarter profit fell 40 per cent.
Nokia had warned investors last month to expect poor results.
The company has been hurt by its failure to compete effectively in the market for high-end smartphones against iPhone maker Apple and devices based on Google software.
That shortcoming may cost Mr Kallasvuo his job.

    Correct.
    I'm using 22.007
    Thanks for Your efforts here.
One more thing about the issue with ()
It might be phone related. SMS from Phone is also not working to those number. No "Sacking" needed from the Ovi Team... Sorry.
Regarding other issues: Glad You don't have those.
Specially the quick search not working from time to time. Looks like some people do, other don't. You should go ahead and check forums for E-series and read some more about them.
My main issue is the Contact related issues.
The "missing features" I believe You are missing as well...
Surely your search does not handle "Save As" name or include company in quick search (that's from the home screen)?
Lets say you want to call the Helpdesk on Nokia. In outlook this contact is entered with the fields Function/Title=Helpdesk, Company=Nokia. It is saved as "Helpdesk, Nokia" or "Nokia Helpdesk" etc as display name. I don't believe that regular business users 2010 still saves this as Firstname=Helpdesk and Lastname "Nokia" to comply with their phones quick search.
On my HTC when entering "Nok" or "Hel" this contact entry immediately would be displayed from standby mode. In E72 not.
Same regarding categories: Does Your E72 calendar really handle categories other then Nokia standard?
Here's some reading regarding Maps issues with voices.... I've today installed 3.04 Beta and the issue persists.
Really: I haven't got any Hocus-Pocus software on my E72. I'm using MfE for syncing contacts/calendar/tasks. Ovi Suite for syncing Notes. Ovi maps for GPS.
I've resetted a couple of times, both hard and soft resets. No change.
In my opinion I'm using my E72 as any other of my customers would do. Of course I'm not recommending this phone for the moment.
In fact chance of even buying a new Nokia is miles out of sight. To much important missing, to much important not working efficiently.
Lets hope a update addresses this.

  • Bugs in OVI Suite

    Hi,
I have noticed the following gaps/bugs in Ovi Suite. Hope Nokia to fix them. Please feel free to add more.
    1) I download a particular maps using OVI suite. Next time when I connect my device, it does not show the installed maps.
    2) There is no way to see if update to downloaded maps are available.
    3) Message sync is a bit wierd. Why are there still message on OVI suite that I already deleted on my phone.
    4) When I read a message using OVI suite, the indicator light on E72 still flashes.
    5) Why is there an option, contact in mobile and contact on OVI, should it be same.
    6) There is no option to set default number for a Contact from OVI suite.
    7) When a message arrives on phone, OVI suite takes ages to detect it unlike PC suite. The whole idea of desktop client is defeated if one has to read message on phone. Plus the light keep flashing after reading on OVI.
    8) Contacts and messages should be automatically synced to online Nokia account since there is option of login.
    9) Many other points in a similar post, Top 10 reasons not to use OVI.
    Regards,
    Vikas

On the no way to see if update for downloaded maps are available, because the new map updates arent compatible. They would only release new map updates when a new version of Ovi Maps is released as well, and the new maps would be compatible to the new version.

  • BUG REPORT: Ovi suite 2.2.0.245 destroys data when...

After synching my Outlook 2010 x64 calender items to my mobile (Nokia 6300) with Nokia Ovi suite 2.2.0.245, the detail info (notes) on my appointments are gone in outlook.
Really sucks, because all connection details of web meetings and so on, are lost.
Secondly, Nokia Ovi suite has no GUI for the calendar like PCSuite did, to see the calendar details.
You can sync calendar items, but there is no way to manage them like the contacts/photo's...
AND, the sync statistics do not tell what exactly had been updated.
Just the object count of updates... nothing more.
    Any solution to this?

    Hey,
Following r my personal opinions, ppl may hav mixed feelingz about that ...
Nokia PC suite's stability currently is high bcoz, its been there for so many years( at least i heard ppl who'r using it from 6.85.14.1 and now its something 7.1.x.x),  it has got so many updates and its now very stable after so many years, Nokia Ovi Suite is now in developing stage when compared to pc suite.  By saying so i m not trying 2 defend Nokia OVi suite and letting pc suite dwn, not at all....I m trying to b neutral.
As u said, PC Sync report in pc suite will inform the complete modifications done after sync, at this point i would like 2 stress 1 thing, when Nokia Ovi Suite launched intially, it was not having any sync report, but now at least it showing some details(Not as you xpct as that of PC Suite)
So like u, even Nokia Ovi Suite users like 2 see changes in sync report in upcoming releases of Nokia Ovi Suite versions.
    Hope u agree

  • Maps no longer are found by Nokia Ovi Suite or on ...

Recently I unplugged my memory card and then reinserted it into my nokia E71 phone. After reinserting it all my apps continued working however inside Ovi GPS maps doesnt work anymore. I am able to open up the app and it finds my location and relative to my saved favorites it seems to be in the right place, but the streets and terrain did come back!
I hooked it up to nokia ovi suite and got "Can't find maps on your device" when trying to install them back onto my phone.
I have also tried to install the http://maps.nokia.com/ app back onto the phone and seems to install however the full maps never come back.
    Any suggestions?
    Solved!

    @AliveGuy
I am assuming that this version of Ovi Maps is installed upon your E71:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-e71/
Maps needs to be stored upon memory card as really not enough phone memory except for the smallest region; the actual map data is in E:\Cities\diskcache in (16) folders 0 - 9 and a - f, so is unrecognisable as such!

  • Ovi maps data update through Ovi Suite A bug?

Don't know if its a problem but the darn Ovi suite keeps prompting to update the maps data in my N97 mini even I have already done it twice. Seems like it just read and check my phone maps data and just erase everything and download all the data over again. Doesn't seems to be optimized. Should have program the updater check the data files size or date tag and just update those outdated files, instead of everything.  If I have a huge maps data in my phone it'll be a loooong wait.
    Anyone having the same problem?
I'm still getting prompt today to update my maps data. Doubt that nokia tech can update their maps data that fast.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:
    /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Ovi-Suite-PC-Suite-USB-Connection-Problem/td-p/682828
Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

Solution which did not work for me:
    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

After re-starting the computer, I also followed this portion of a suggestion from another post (don't know if it made a difference or not):
"connected the device, waited till all the drivers were loaded.
    Then launched Ovi suite"
     (From /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/E52-Sync-Error-8393f010-838c03ee/m-p/740481)

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...

  • Still the same bugs?! (Ovi Maps, N8)

    Hi!
I'm using Ovi maps lately quite a lot but I have some problems with this software, especially with the usability. When searching the net for bugfixes/help I found an older bug report on Nokia BetaLabs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06/bugreport/23781/top-10-bugs-in-ovi-maps-v-3... and my problems are still the same but Ovi Suite says that I have the latest version (v3.06, Map version 0.2.42.122 on N8-00)
    My problems are:
1.) When searching for an accurate address (Street name, No., ZIP, City name) there is no hit for offline navigation, Ovi maps needs an online search. If I leave the house number out the offline navigation finds the street - Why aren't there the house numbers stored for offline navigation? There is mostly no sense in only finding a street but not the accurate address. As long as I only use the navigation inland that isn't a big problem as I have internet connection included in my phone rate - but it's a problem abroad because of high roaming rates ...
2.) So I have always internet connection on Ovi maps - problem is that sometimes when the UMTS-connection is lost (e.g.. in tunnels) there is a pop-up if I want Ovi maps to connect to the internet. If I choose "Yes" there is some seconds later a new pop-up where I need to choose the connection - That's very annoying! I can't find a setting like "always allow Ovi maps to connect to the internet". There is only a setting if I only want offline navigation (which doesn't work, see 1.).
3.) If there is more than one result I can't figure out what is the difference between the results (except the distance) because the exact address isn't scrolling and the results are only like "Country, State, ...." - I don't see the differences because there is only "...".
4.) I can't scroll through the map once the navigation has started. There is only this mode where I can scroll threw the turns/junctions. Sometimes I like to see where the navigation takes me before I start driving, that is hardly possible without a 'free-map-scroll-mode'.
One last point is the search-process: It is more comfortable to have a step-by-step search for the destination like all major satnavs have (TomTom, Garmin, ...) and bigger on-screen-keyboard because with this tiny letters it is quite impossible to add/change the address while driving.

AUTxRemoteC wrote:Now to the points from my first post:
1.) I've downloaded the maps via Ovi Suite on my mobile. Internet connection is only used for the search, but not everytime, it's only some kB but abroad some kB could be very expensive ;-)
2.) Thanks for this hint but everything was/is configured right as you said. This is more or less a general problem of my phone, maybe it has also something to do with my provider. Not only Maps asks regularly for the connection to use, other applications like the AR-Apps Wikitude and LiveView (from BetaLabs) but also some games are doing the same.
    1. Maybe I misunderstand your question but I have no problem with searches right down to numbers in streets with the phone offline i.e the country, town, street, street number is found and the cursor sits over that exact address on the map. Perhaps it is a problem with your country's maps? In the countries I use the geo data is readily available right down to the individually surveyed plots of land in towns and cities (and hence to numbers in streets).
I often find it quicker to do a search for the country first if it is another country you are searching for the address in, then do the city, street number and name search.
    2. I suspect that you have not barred such connections somewhere in the set up of your phone generally or else for for some app, or perhaps, as you have games, etc loaded, one or more of them insists on "phoning home" as some do and as they have opened a connection Maps asks to use it.
That with Maps 3.08 on an N8 but I do not recall any problems on earlier versions either.

  • OVI Suite 2.0 doesn't sync with Lotus Notes!

I am disgusted with the new OVI 2.0! First it keeps bugging me to download and install it. Next I found out that it doesn't support sync with Lotus Notes. Unlike my Nokia PC Suite v 7.0, it doesn't sync at all with Lotus Notes.
Even worst, Nokia claimed that OVI Suite is the only application available from them.
What am I to do with my calendar and contacts entries on my Notes then? I will not hesitate to switch to a different mobile phone maker if Nokia doesn't fix this problem!

Hi, recommendation is to use Lotus Notes Traveler for S60 application for using Nokia device with Lotus Notes. Lotus Notes Traveler for S60 supports syncing email, contacts and calendar over the air with Lotus Notes servers.
That's recommended way to sync Nokia device's with Lotus Notes.
The Lotus Notes Traveler might be recommended, though I am working in a company that provides Lotus Notes Traveler it is not an alternative for me, since:
    a. The company does not pay the data traffic costs on my phone, so I must cover the cost of use of Traveler from my own pocket.
    b. Traveler have impractical limitations in the range of how long in the future calendar data is sync'ed.
Now, that is my situation, but not all companies does provide or plan to provide their employees with Lotus Notes Traveler, but they allows their employees to choose their phones themselves. You can say I am just being difficult, but they who have no alternatives are not. For them it is Nokia being difficult.
The current solution for most of us is to continue using Nokia PC Suite until it is time for a new phone, and then change to another mobile phone provider, if Nokia still has no new solution for sync'ing with Lotus Notes.
It is not wise of Nokia to remove a feature from its software that have made people loyal so far, and changing to other phones is, as we all know, easy, and Nokia can not afford to lose more customers. As customers most of us can, however, easily live without Nokia. I abandoned Ericsson some ten years ago as they did not provide new features and functions as Nokia then did. Now it is Nokia that discontinues features and functions and is slow to implement new ones.
With the exception of the calendar and contacts, which can be sync'ed as long as the PC Suite works, the Nokia backup solution does not backup much I can not backup by using the memory card and a computer (and/or the USB cable), and it will be a simple matter to drop that back into a mobile phone from another provider, and sync my calendar and contacts into it as well.
I believe Nokia employees reading these discussions should forward their concern to their colleagues and superiors at Nokia, and I know the culture in many Finnish companies implies a relatively flat structure and allows for good contact along the lines of command in the companies, so I believe that can be done.
I would like to be able to continue using Nokia, but I am more dependent on features and functionality than brand.
My postings are done on basis of my own opinions, and are not done on behalf of organizations I am or have been member of, nor employers I have or have had.

  • Ovi Suite is unable to sync calendar tasks with co...

    Hey there,
I found an very bad bug when syncing my N95 and the ovi suite 2.0.
Ovi Suite always crashes when syncing the calendar and I detected that my tasks like "Greet the new guy, over there" were cutted off on the first comma and re-added. So after 5 tries of syncing, I had one complete task and 5 tasks saying "Greet the new guy", without the rest. It was some work to delete these and now Im using the old sync-app from Nokia PC Suite again, which works fine. I hope this will be fixed, because this is the main reason which keeps me away from ovi suite.

PS: I'm syncing with Vista Calendar

    Hi,
Have you checked if your phone has got latest firmware? [My Nokia N95 has got 35.0.002    It may vary depending on your region/operator]  If your phone has got new firmware, update new firmware[Please do take backup of your phone contents]
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=132
Then Nokia OVI Suite too has got latest firmware 2.0.2.42, follow above instrucation from satari too,
then try to check your issue.  Hope this helps
