Bug in Captivate 5 with duplicating quiz slides??

Hi,
I have a quiz with 100 questions. I created a formatted question slide, (custom font, etc.) and wanted to duplicate this slide so that I wouldn't have to recreate it for each quiz slide.
The client wants to have audio (Text to Speech) and Closed Captioning visible on each slide. The issue is when I go to duplicate the slide to make a new question slide, I can't change the Closed Captioning text in the duplicated slide as it's linked to the original one.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to create these questions slides by hand each time...

Hello,
I was puzzled by your question and just tried to reproduce it but was able to change the CC-notes on the duplicate slides? Could you explain your work flow? And BTW: what is your version number? Recently a patch was released, most recent is now version 5.0.2.630

  • Conditional Branching with quiz slides not working

Attempting to use conditional branches with quiz slidescauses
the other quiz slides in my presentation to not work correctly. I
am attempting to create a 'test-out' pre-quiz for a segment of
slides in the presentation. I followed the instructions to add
conditional branching per page 46 of the Breeze Presenter User
Guide to obviously no avail. Is there a simple straightfoward
manner in which someone has successfully used conditional branches
with their quiz slides in their presentation?

    Hi,
I had the same issue.Apparently as of now PDF templates do not support conditional formatting for XML Publisher.
See Tim Dexter's response to my query at the bottom of this thread...
Re: Using the '%' operator in microsoft word template builder for XMLP
I could get some conditional formatting to work on the pdf template but only for the form field font, size and styles using Javascript, but I don't think there is a way to display values for the form field based on an if condition...

  • User cannot Click Anywhere to Continue on some quiz slides

In Captivate 4, on some quiz slides, after the correct answer has been submitted, the user must click on the "click anywhere to continue" box in order to move ahead. This happens only on some quiz slides. Others, the user really can click anywhere. And, this doesn't happen all the time on every computer. It usually happens on the same slides but not always. It happens in Explorer and Firefox and occasionally Chrome, but not as often. Haven't encountered the problem using Safari, yet, but have tested it.
I reported it through the report bug link in case it is a bug. All of the slides have the same setting, so I don't know why it's happening on some slides and not others.

    Hi there
Thanks for reporting as a bug. I might suggest that as a work around, you change the captions to read "Click here to continue". At least it would guide the user to the right and expected outcome.

  • Can you make buttons appear "on success" on quiz slide?

I'm not an expert Captivate user and don't know Javascript, so please excuse my ignorance if this question seems strange.
I have a Captivate 6 project with several quiz slides peppered throughout the entire file. In other words, the quiz slides are not grouped together. Each slide, including the quiz slides, has a forward button and a back button.
I would like for users to move forward and backward through the presentation in a linear fashion as they like, and this is working well. However, it would be nice if users weren't able to skip answering the quiz questions. I would like the buttons to appear after the user has answered the quiz question correctly, and then I would like the buttons to stay on the slide thereafter.
Is this possible? Do you have a Javascript resource I could use for the "on success" action, or what other solutions do you recommend?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
When you are talking about the default buttons Back and Next that you find on question slides, you don't have much control over them. As you probably did see they do not even appear as separate objects on the timeline. And I doubt that Javascript could realize what you want.
Try first to understand how the work flow of question slides is designed:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You can drag the Next button under the Clear button (see blog post), normally Next during a Quiz is not needed, since the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) will move to the next slide.
However the Back button is a more tricky button if you really want to have it. Maybe, didn't check it out, try to hide the back button to the user (make it transparent without a stroke) and have an image appear on top of that button after the first step on the question slide. The invisible Back under the image will remain active, it even has absolute priority over other objects.

  • Positioning quiz slide objects

I am working on a Captivate 5 project with many quiz slides. The quiz slides were put into the project by someone else. I need to move the various quiz slide objects (submit button, back button, clear button, question text, review area, hint caption, and so forth).
These objects need to be moved to the same position in all of the quiz slides. I've been moving these objects into place one by one and it is very tedious.
Is there a way to set up a style to move all of these objects on all quiz slides at once?

Each of the objects you mention on the quiz slide are a special type of object in Captivate.
So although Object Styles do not allow you to specify the X and Y coordinates of an object, you CAN just move one of these objects on one slide to the location you want them all to be, and then go to the Position and Size accordion in the Properties tab (Transform accordion in Cp5.5), look for the small dropdown in the top right corner of the accordion, and choose the option to Apply to all items.
The name is a bit misleading because it make you think this will actually apply the positioning setting to every item in the project.  But the fact is that it will only apply it to items OF THE SAME OBJECT TYPE. So although you would never do this for something like text captions in the main part of your project, you can safely do it for things like Submit, Clear, Back, and Next buttons in quiz slides because each of them are actually totally different object types as far as Captivate is concerned.
Note also the option to Apply to all items of same style.  This means you can create custom styles and apply them to just certain buttons or captions if you only wanted SOME items to be positioned in a certain way, while all other items should retain their original positions.

  • Skip audio on quiz slide

    Hello Captivate Community,
I'm a long time lurker / dabbler finally putting Captivate  to use in some "real" projects.
I'm working with a quiz slide and I'm wondering if there is any way to control audio. I'd like the learner to be able to skip audio so I figured I could add a button to hide the audio object but I see that there is no way to add a button to a quiz slide.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Hello Lilybiri,
Thanks for your response. I'm against using the mute button as this is a global setting and would force the learner to unmute for other slides. And I don't think your other suggestion will work for my course flow. My scenario will work like this: Learner arrives at quiz slide and audio plays narrating question and answers. If the learner answers incorrectly they are forwarded to a video remediation. After remediation the learner is returned to the quiz slide to try again. At this point audio plays again and I would like to give the learner an option to skip audio, but I see I am probably out of luck.

  • Why do quiz slides not work in LMS?

Using Captivate 7. Scorm 2004. I added three multiple choice quiz slides to the course, interspersed between content pages, to act as review questions. Each quiz slide has a Submit and a Clear button.
When I reloaded the updated course, now with the quiz slides, to the LMS (Cornerstone -stage environment), the options on the quiz slides are not clickable and the Submit and Clear buttons are missing.
    My settings are:
Completion - based on slide views - 100%
Success - based on slide views - 100%
Quiz - "Optional - user can skip"
      Pass/Fail - 0% required to pass
If Failing: Allow infinite attempts - checkbox (but I've also tried 1 attempt)
    Thanks!

Thanks, Lieve. Actually, I think the reason that the LMS did not correctly display the quiz slides is because it had already marked me as "complete" (I had taken the course multiple times previously.) Plus in all the various versions I re-loaded to our Stage environment, I kept changing quiz settings, etc., and I think the poor LMS was just so confused. So after I made a few more changes to the course (see below) and logged in as a different user, the course and quiz slides displayed correctly.
I made these changes to quiz settings in Captivate:
      - I based completion on only "Slides viewed" -- not on "Quiz is passed"
      - On the "Pass or Fail" settings, I changed "Go to next slide" to "Continue"
and under  "If failing grade," I changed "1 attempt" to "infinite attempts."
I also removed the reportable click box from slide 1.
So I'm not sure which of these changes solved the problem, but the course is working correctly now, thankfully.

  • Changing font size and style in quiz slides

    Captivate v4
Can anyone help explain how I can change the font size and style (italic for example) of the 3 text entries with a quiz slide.
    1. Quiz Name
    2. Question
    3. Answer
When I create a new quiz the Quiz Name is Arial 22, The Question is Arial 18 and the Answer is Arail 12.
I am pretty sure i must have selected these somewhere - but unable to find where and I need to change these to some new default settings, as I am having to amend each slide as I insert it.
    NEL

In Captivate 4 you'll have to select one of these items and change the font size, then Apply to All objects of the same type.  In Quiz Slides the Question Title caption, Question Text caption, and Question Answer caption are all special types of captions unique to quiz slides. So by changing one and then applying to all, you can do all such items in the quiz easily.
In Captivate 5/5.5 you can achieve the same result by changing the Object Style.

  • Quiz slides - editing button actions

    All,
I have a Captivate 3 project with various quiz slides
throughout that act as section reviews. I was able to have the
submit button send users back to a ToC slide; however, I want the
same to happen when they click "Next" on the quiz slides (if they
just want to skip the review). Is there any way to edit individual
    button actions on quiz slides?
    Andy

FYI - Captivate REALLY hates jumping around where scored
quizzes are concerned... it seems to expect each project to contain
a single scored quiz and it expects the user to complete that quiz
linearly. The "Allow backwards movement" option in the Quiz
preferences may allow things to work as expected, but I doubt the
user will be able to "retake" a section once it's been completed.
Captivate doesn't seem to like that, either.
If you continue to have problems jumping back to your TOC,
try breaking everything into individual projects and have your
links open the appropriate project to create your lesson flows.
Captivate has no problem randomly jumping between projects,
and doing so will also allow users to retake a section if desired.
PS - Since you've created your own TOC, I'm guessing you're
not reporting user results to an Learning Management System of some
sort. The "link between projects" approach is typically not an
option in an LMS environment since the LMS usually needs to launch
all files itself in order to create the necessary results reporting
    interface.

  • Random Quiz Slides not displaying in published files when on server

    version 4.0
    Output - swf\htm
    Hello
Have been working on some elearning now locally for a while which combines straight slides then ends with random quiz slides.
Have published locally to c:\ drive and tested the swf\htm files and they play and display fine . However have now published the files to our organisations elearning server so everyone can access and played them back. All works fine till you get to the first random question slide - its just a green blank screen ! The green is the same as the skin I have on the project as a whole.
So basically the problem must be on the server. I have no idea what to try !!
    thanks in advance
ps - just adding this bit, I meant to put it in quizzing forum but didn't . Can't see how to move it now
Also just tried adding a normal quiz slide and that displays fine - its when I am using the random quiz slides from a pool. Thanks

thanks for this - feel a bit thick now !
I had no idea they created separate files. That serves me right for not working in separate folders when I am testing and working in the root of the directory (with about 50 other cp files in it !)as I missed it.
Mystery solved - thanks again !

  • Quiz Slide

I'm having a problem with a quiz slide. This slide is slide 75 in my project. I have the Action set to Jump to slide 61 for both the On Success and Last Attempt, however, when I preview the presentation this slide goes to the next slide rather than to slide 61. I looked at the Branching View and it shows the branch correctly, with this slide going back to slide 61.  I'm hoping to get some help to fix this. Thanks.
    Kim

I have changed my project and am now creating each module as an individual file. However, I'm still having a problem with the branching that I posted about originally. In the current project there are 63 slides. I have read things about the quiz scope and creating an interactive object, but I'll be honest, I was still confused by what I need to do. When I branch from slide 16 (it was in my first post originally slide 61) and go to the branch that begins on slide 25, when I get to the end of the branch where I have 2 quiz slides (slides 29 and 30), the last slide takes me to the next slide rather than back to slide 16 as I have programmed into the success and failure actions for the slide. If you could point me to instructions that would help me understand more about the quiz scope and the advanced interaction panel that would be very helpful. I have also included screen shots of the advanced interactions for all slides. Thanks for your help.

  • Review Quiz skips over the first quiz slide during the review.

I created a project with 2 quiz slides and a quiz results slide.  When I review the quiz at the end of the project it rewinds to the first quiz slide but skips over it and then stops/pauses on the 2nd quiz slide (last slide in this case).  I do not have a transition set for the quiz slides, and the "On Enter" setting is set to continue.  The slide has an infinite number of attempts set for it and the Failure levels is 1.  Report answers is set.  I do not have the LMS reporting set up yet.  I was going to use an internal server or perhaps Moodle if I can get that working.
    Stephen

Did you remove any of the default captions from either of your quiz questions?  If so, delete those quiz question slides and add new ones from scratch.  Then test to see if the issue is resolved.

  • Captivate 4 - unable to bookmark content slides with a Quiz and maintain Incomplete status

When creating a presentation that has content slides before a quiz the Captivate content is recorded as Failed when exited early in the LMS.
I am trying to allow the user to view content pages that bookmark when they ahve to exit the course. This should set a status of Incomplete which will allow the user to return to the last page (slide) viewed and continue. Once all slides are viewed they are then presented with a Quiz that requires an 80% to pass.
I have tried the reporting setting "quiz results and slide views" in Captivate but if I exit on any content slide it is recorded as Failed with a 0 score. The LMS I am using is OutStart Evolution.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    surf_easy922,
As discussed privately - you needed to click the "continue" button at the Quiz Results screen, in order to successfully complete the content in the LMS.  There are a number of options that you can employ to resolve this:
    - Change settings in the Quiz Manager to "Quiz Results, only"
    - Remove the Quiz Results screen and insert your own certificate
    - In this case (because of where the content originated) you should use Adobe Presenter
For building your own certificate - I have written an article on building your own Flash-based certificates for Adobe Presenter and Adobe Captivate.  The article can be found here:  http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/02/certificates/
I am in the process of revamping that article, because it is *very* technical and doesn't need to be.  I think a lot of people are confused (justly so) by the article and really how easy it is to use the template/sample certificates I've provided in the article for their own purposes.  While I am working on that update, here is a walkthough of how you can use any of the sample FLA's in the article, above for your own custom certificate:  http://www.learningconsulting.com/content/adobe/connect/CertificatesInCpPr/CertificatesInC pPr_customizing.htm
Finally, I think for your purposes and based on how you are building your content, you should look at the Adobe Presenter tool.  It is a PowerPoint plug-in that provides the same functionality that you have in your Captivate file (but you work within PowerPoint, so you do not need to import the PPT file - you work directly with it).  Captivate is an awesome tool and should be used for your simulations and more complex interactivity, but in this case Presenter is the more appropriate tool for your needs.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Andrew

  • Captivate 4 Quiz Slides - Misnumbering?

    Hi Everyone,
I am using Captivate 4 after recent Captivate 3 upgrade.
My quiz slides are "misnumbering." They appear fine in Editing mode (i.e. "1 out of 5"), but when I preview them - and even when I publish the project and load it to the LMS, the slides read "1 out of 35" or something like that.
To cap it off, even if the user gets the 5 questions correct, they still fail because of the misnumbering of the questions (for some reason, the system sees them as needing to complete 35 questions.)
Folks - there are only 5 questions. The slides are right in Editing mode. These are my first projects with Captivate 4 (rather than 3), and I'm both dumbfounded and unimpressed.
    Any ideas????

    Hi there
Likely you have Click Boxes sprinkled through the project with reporting enabled.
Tap the F9 key and the Advanced Interaction dialog should display.
Clear the check boxes and you should be golden.

  • All Quiz Slides Automatically Changed (by captivate) when ANY change is made to a Quiz Slide

When I make a change to a quiz slide, captivate automatically adds the "Back" button (which was previously deleted) to *all* quiz slides and extends *all* quiz slide length by several seconds. This is very frustrating to have to go back to every quiz slide (which are interspersed thought the project) to remove the "back" button and correct the slide length. Thoughts anyone?

Did you read that blog post that I indicated in the other thread about questions?
Default pausing point is at 1.5 secs. If you leave the Success/Last attempt action to default 'Continue' users have to wait 1.5secs, never 3 secs.
If you want to reduce the time, you can drag the pausing point bit more to the right to decrement the non-active part (not totally till end). That is the best solution, especially if some users will have to work with restricted bandwidth. Or you use Go to Next Slide instead of Continue for the actions.
