Bug in Compatibility Update for QuickTime 7.5.5 ?

After installing the Compatibility Update for QuickTime 7.5.5, DVD Player 5.0.1 began frequently hesitating for a second or so, which completely ruined the experience of watching DVDs.
I reinstalled QuickTime 7.5.5 and that seemed to fix the problem.

HipHipHooRay!
Why doesn't Apple post messages on the discussion boards of such things? Especially for those on-going discussions relating to problems/issues that the latest software update will fix? Many of us subscribe to the topic related to our issues and word from Apple would be most welcomed.
Did the update work for you?

When downloading updated for Quicktime 7 and Itunes 10 I keep getting an error saying that files shared by these updates has an invalid signature and that the downloaded has been removed. If I don't get that message I get a message saying that the download was unsuccesful and that in order to download I need to go to tools and then select dowload only. Please help I really want to update my iphone!

Thanks for helping out, but I already tried these steps.
I even tried this on a iMac with similar results. The only difference was that the errorcode was called 2001 instead of 21.
Today I took the phone to www.iphoneambulancen.dk. A guy (in Aarhus, Denmark) that specializes in iPhone repairs. I figured, that given his occupation he'd seen most errorcdes. Two hours later, he called me back, and told me that he had replaced the battery.
So, it turns out that a broken battery can cause this behaviour.
    But thanks again

    Hello,
It seems to be everyone's issue with latest camera - when is Apple going to send an update for the Sony Alpha a55??
Or does someone knows a way around to get RAW compatibility with this model?
    Thanks

The latest mail update for mavericks seems to have a bug where you can continuously scroll down so the mail stream disappears. Usually you get the classic apple bounce but that seems to have dissappeared. Also you can't scroll within the preview of mail on the right of scree. Please fix!

  • Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update for Tecra M7 (kb935280)

    Hi
Just wanted everybody to know: The compatibility update that Microsoft just released as part of yesterdays patchday might do some good for all of us who currently have problems with the Tecra M7 and Vista - although I didn't find out what it should do exactly, Microsoft announces it should improve the support:
see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935280/en-us and get it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=618E24C1-8731-4D04-B0D8-3B4C703EDEE6

    Thanks Floh for this info.
Regarding the Microsoft document the Vista operating system could be not compatible with some common applications.
In single cases you could be not able to install the software or the installed software could causes system instability or the application, or the firmware may not work correctly.
It seems the new Microsoft patch solves some installation problems with different programs. This are definitely good news
I use only the XP due to incompatibility with Vista but I think I will switch to the new OS in the next time

  • At least release a compatibility update for the very popular Nexus 7 before dropping support!

  • Update for quicktime 7.4 fails

Software update this morning asked me to instal Quicktime 7.4 ITunes something, and a security update. ITunes and the Security update installed fine. Quicktime did not, leaving me with a message to try again. I repaired permissions, same thing.I downloaded the complete QT 7.4 dmg , repaired permissions and tried again. Still no luck. Then I put the existing QT in the trash, while noting that get info said it was 7.4. Tried again. No luck. Then I tried to empty trash. It does not empty. I get the spinning wheel forever. The I tried using the terminal to delete ( I am not an expert with it) using
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
This is what I got back in Terminal and the trash still did not empty.
    Andy-Laptop:~ andyjar$ sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
rm: /Users/andyjar/.Trash/QuickTime Player.app/Contents/Resources/Italian.lproj: Directory not empty
rm: /Users/andyjar/.Trash/QuickTime Player.app/Contents/Resources: Directory not empty
rm: /Users/andyjar/.Trash/QuickTime Player.app/Contents: Directory not empty
rm: /Users/andyjar/.Trash/QuickTime Player.app: Directory not empty
I'm not sure I know what this means and would welcome any suggestions/explanations.
There are 2 files on my hard drive called Italian.lproj
one in my mail account, one in my Brother printer driver. I deleted both of those yet I get the same message in Terminal and QT 74. is still in my Trash folder.
Shoudl I proceed to delete anything related to QT is the System and Libary folder and preferences?
Thanks in advance for any advice

"Then I put the existing QT in the trash, while noting that get info said it was 7.4."
Remove QT from the trash & place it back into the Applications folder. You do not need to remove the older versions of QT because somehow when you update the original QT app automatically changes to the newer version.
When troubleshooting did you remove all devices from your computer except for the keyboard & mouse?
Did you restart your computer after you repaired permissions? Have you tried repairing disk & permissions directly from your System Install discs that originally came w/your computer?

  • Can't Use Software Update for Quicktime

I have been trying any different things in order to update the version of Quicktime on my computer. But I keep getting this error.
Make sure you have permission to write to /Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/content/downloads/34/44/061-2834/JJKTR GcgSLYK6xc6wwtrhvFS4S6fHk2Z4L, then try again.
I have tried to repair disk permissions with Disk Utility, Drive Genius, and Disk Warrior but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

Two things to try. Open /Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/ and drag its contents to a new folder on the desktop. Next, select the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate folder, CMD+I, and ensure that the owner is you and that you have R&W access. If neither of those soleve the problem, you might want to update to 10.4.8 (your settings show 10.4.4).

  • Disable automatic updates for QuickTime 7.3 on Vista

Is there any way to disable automatic updates in order to do a corporate deployment?
I've tried playing around with the preference files but no matter what I do it keeps coming up with the update checkbox checked.
From looking at the posts on this forum it looks like Apple doesn't really care about the free version of QuickTime and that's pretty sad because a lot of people use that to evaluate and then go on to purchase Pro, but I guess you don't pop up on Apple's radar until you pay up. Kind of like MS!

The easy solution, then, is either a) to boycott anything that uses QuickTime (as I do, because the player is so annoying) or b) you could uninstall the Apple Software Update program in the Control Panel in case it's doing the update nonsense and ignoring the preference inside QuickTime not to update.

  • Installed update for Quicktime for Leopard.  It indicates successful installation but actually hasnt installed. Did it a few times and also deleted my existing version and all QT preferences.  Still doesnt work.  any ideas?

I have downloaded Quicktime for leopard fo rmy iMac (2 years old).  It indicated successful installation.  Then I purchased Quicktime Pro.  It didnt work.  So tried a download again. The same thing happened.  So I deleted absolutely everything including my old version of QT and also any preference files I found.  I tried again but the same thing happened.  It indicates successful installation but a search doesn't reveal anything anywhere.  I have had no previous trouble downloading any new programmes . They always install with no problem straight into applications.  there is lots of available memory.  Now I have no Quicktime whatsoever.
Any ideas anyone?  Have tried speaking to the apple call centre in India.  He couldnt understand me and vie versa.  No use at all and it cost me a fortune for the phone call.  On the phone for an hour while this chap kept going to his supervisor. Why do companies continue to use call centres overseas?

I have used Firefox since Firefox 0.7 or 0.9 but may have been 0.5. Seems like it was called something else but my memory is not that great.
Before that I used Seamonkey and other variations of Mozilla. Before that I used Netscape. I even have/had a CD that I sent off for with the different releases going all the way back to the beginning (I think).
I was a Mozilla crusader. When I saw someone using IE I would talk to them like they must be dumb until they switched haha. I have converted everyone who is close to me to firefox except my wife and I think she uses IE to irritate me.
I work on the Internet. I spend no less than 12 hours and up to 18 hours a day with my fingers touching a keyboard that is connected to a computer or phone that is interacting with the Internet. I have Firefox on my Android phone, two laptops and my desktop. All of them crash constantly.
When it crashes I lose work and time. Not to mention getting big headaches.
I am very appreciative for the browser and yes I have made money donations. Not saying that makes me good. I look at it more like I am paying for great software.
I never thought the day would come that I would say no more to Firefox. The day has come.
When Firefox first came out it was small, good and fast. As time has went on it has become big, bad and slow. I feel like I am turning my back on a good friend but i can't take the crashing any longer.
I am using Chrome now. Dang I hate to use anything google. Since I can't make my own browser I have to use what's out there and Chrome is fast. Sort of like Firefox used to be... except of course Chrome has all those phone home goodies.
I won't be trying to convert anyone to Chrome but neither will I try to convert them to Firefox.
I am not trying to start a flame war or anything here. As nuts as it sounds I felt like I should tell Firefox bye.
Bye bye Firefox. it was good knowing you

  • I am still waiting for a raw compatability update for my Pentax K-3.  Is there an eta?

I have been waiting since getting it in November of last year.

You're not talking to Apple here, just other users like yourself. No one here has an ETA. Best guess would be soon, maybe the next release.
The last update was Jan 16, 2014: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1717

  • Safe Updates for 10.3.9

About 4 months ago I had to re-install all of my software because of an "update" that basically made it impossible for me to do anything on my mac. I know am getting a list of 11 updates that are available to load. I am wary of all updates now, and was wondering if anyone could look at this list, and psot any problems you might have had with any of these updates. Here is the list:
    Apple Intermediate codec 1.0.1
    Apple Remote desktop LCient 1.2.4
    Cinema Tools 2.2
    Compatibility Update for Quicktime 7.2
    ipod updater 2006-01-10
    itunes 7.7.1
Java for Mac osx 10.3 update 5 5.0
    Pro Applications Update 2005-021.0
Quicktime 7.5 (I had problems with this before)
    Safari Update 1.3.2
    Security Update 2007-008 1.0
Thanks in advance for any insight.
    Cathy

    Hi Cathy,
None of those should be a problem, but let me give you my spiel on Tiger, which will be almost indentical to Panther, (but Tiger's a bit worse)...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • Can't download update for Mac onto PC

I'm trying to download the update for Quicktime Macintosh 7.3 on a Windows computer and put it on my flash drive to install at home. I can't get to the download link. everytime I do, it takes me to the Quicktime page showing either XP or Vista and doesn't have a link to go to the Macintosh version. The download is about 50MB and my home computer is on dial-up. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

You did not mention for which OSX version for which you are trying to download the update(s).
    Try these:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/QuickTime/061-413 0.20071213.Xy54EQ/QuickTime731_Leopard.dmg
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/QuickTime/061-412 7.20071213.3Ujvo/QuickTime731_Tiger.dmg
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/QuickTime/061-412 6.20071213.wgD6H/QuickTime731_Panther.dmg
My general workaround to Apple's locking me out from cross-updating on the different platforms-from your Macintosh, navigate to the Apple downloads site, start the QuickTime updater download, and record the source URL when the download starts. You can then cancel the download on the Mac, take the source URL to your Windows machine, and use it to download the file onto your Windows machine. Then transfer the *.dmg file back to the Mac, and you are updated.

  • QUICKTIME 7.1.3 SECURITY UPDATE FOR WINDOWS? Where is it?

How do I get the security update (2007-001) for the WINDOWS version of QuickTime? Do I just download and install the standalone player again?
As an IT professional who is constantly trying to stick up for apple in a pro-Microsoft world, I find it ridiculous that there is no mention of how windows users can protect themselves from this security flaw, at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304989
It only talks about the OSX version, and the updater in the windows quicktime player just tells me it's up to date with 7.1.3... but 7.1.3 is the only version affected by the security flaw!
    The bug:
    http://projects.info-pull.com/moab/MOAB-01-01-2007.html

The solution for Windows clients is un-acceptable. This is a critical security flaw that could result of remote code execution and possible system compromise.
We cannot sit back and expect thousands of enterprise users to manually go out and update QuickTime. Worse yet if they didn't enable the updater when they installed QuickTime.
A separate downloadable patch for QuickTime for Windows needs to be made available ASAP whereas it can be deployed via existing distribution methods just like we do all other "Critical" security updates.
When will a downloadable patch be available?
If not, our only recourse may be to force the un-install of QuickTime as an unmanageable product.
