Bug in Firmware v5.0616.2.0.3 of N70

I don't know, if the firmware-engineerings of Nokia also reading this forum . . .
Since v5 of the firmware of the N70, i discovered 2 problems:
1. When sending a portrait-picture via mms, de picture is crippled to landscape ! :-(
2. The "Series60Skin" in the Z:\System\skins-folder, is NOT VISIBLE in the Themes menu, and this theme can't be used! :-(
I hope, those 2 bugs could be solved in the next firmware-update of the N70

BUG REPORT FIRMWARE 5.1.7  PLEASE FORWARD TO SUPERVISOR.
The spa-3102 has the following two bugs.
When the unit sends a hook-flash to the fxo port it:
    a)      does not send the hook flash to the fxo port  for PSTN Hook Flash Len:  Instead it uses a very short pulse of about 100ms or 1/10 of a second.  It should honor the PSTN Hook Flash Len configurable parameter of .2 – 1.5 seconds.
    b)      Does not change the line voltage from –7 (off-hook) to –48(on-hook) during a flash-hook to the fxo port.  Instead it varies the voltage only by about 2.5 volts.
This was reported as early as June 07 to linksys support.  It is reported they agreed and would fix in the next firmware release.  There is info that firmware 5.2 being released and is this fix in 5.2 and how can I get it.

Although the problem is still not solved, at least I now know WHY the problem is happening... and Apple's Firmware Update is NOT to blame!
Through a series of coincidences, I was actually lucky enough to get in touch with the engineers in Apple's Airport firmware division, and they were helping me to nail down this problem.
Turns out that Apple takes great PRIDE in the fact that they are one of the VERY FEW manufacturers who make routers that behave properly in this regards: they SPECIFICALLY test for their Airport Extreme routers to allow you to connect to servers behind the NAT by way of the public WAN IP address of the NAT box. This is the way that apparently the NAT/DHCP specification is SUPPOSED TO WORK! You're SUPPOSED to be able to connect this way, if you so desire.
So what was causing the problem on my network, then?
Something I hadn't thought about... the Vonage Linksys RTP300 router that we're using for our Vonage VoIP service. Turns out that this router does NOT support clients behind the NAT connecting to servers behind the NAT by way of the public WAN IP address.
Linksys is to blame, not Apple!
And apparently, this feature may have actually been working in an earlier
firmware update, but apparently, Vonage AUTOMATICALLY pushes firmware
updates to RTP300's, apparently without user notification:
    <http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=1066&category=90&nav=5>
And a forum thread on vonage-forums.com seems to indicate that the 1.00.60 firmware in the RTP300 started getting pushed to customer units on or before 1/26/06, making it less than a month after Apple shipped the 5.7 firmware update for AirPort Extreme Base Stations:
<http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic10915.html>. So if the problem cropped up then, it's possible that I accidentally attributed it to Apple when really the RTP300 got a firmware update around then too which may have broken this feature (assuming it was working before then).

    I am using WRT54G V5.
The Access Restrictions function won't work properly when using firmwares 1.01.1 and 1.01.0. Ports can't be blocked by using the "Blocked Services" in this function.
Now I have to switch back to 1.00.9 to make the port blocking work, but there is a DHCP server issue which could only be fixed in 1.01.0 or above.... Could someone fix this BIG BUG and roll out a new firmware????

  • Intel SSD 320 Series 8 MB Bug neue Firmware?

    Hallo,
    http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/documents/ht074473
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-SSD-8MB-Error-on-Current-4PC1LE04-Firm...
Ich habe schon den telefonischen Lenovo Support angerufen, aber die konnten mir nicht weiter helfen.
Wo bekomme ich jetzt die neue Firmware LE06 her?
    SSD Modell: SSDSA2BW160G3L
    Notebook: T420s

  • ZEN MICRO: "Lookup Artist" bug in firmware 1.01

I bought my Zen Micro on 4 Dec, the Limited edition with 2nd battery. Black. Installed firmware was .00.6 (if memory serves).
Now that I upgraded to the latest to the newest firmware ZenMicro_PCFW_US__0_03_PDE.exe I believe I'm noticing the following bug:
Whenever I'm on a track (e.g. in "Now Playing", Selected Music, ...) and use the "Options>Lookup Artist" function, the only album displayed, is the album of the track that was acti've. I believe that before the firmware upgrade, this would display ALL the albums for the artist of the selected track.
I can't revert to previous firmware, to confirm this. Anyhow, this behaviour, if not a regression bug, is still a bug in that it's not expected behaviour.
Anyone able to confirm that under firmware .00.6 this works differently?
Anyone able to confirm that under firmware .0.03, this function works as I described above?
I'm intending to send this to Creative Support soon.
I'd like to add that I really enjoy my Micro otherwise. (Well, with the exception of the less than promised battery life, but I don't want battery life to become the topic of this thread).
    # crossposted also on European forum.

I can't really comment on any firmware other then 2.00.2 because I updated to that ver immediately after getting the micro.
On mine, if I'm in the "Now Playing" screen on a song and I try "Lookup Artist", I get a blank screen with just the artists name at the top. If I then choose "View All" from menu, I get a blank screen with just the artists name also (unlike if I were to go from the main menu/music library/artists/artist name/view all/ which would give me a list of all song by that artist. I'm assuming it should work the same way irregardless of if I'm doing it from "Now Playing" or the "Music Library".
I also found if you hit "Back" from the "Lookup Artist" screen the Zen takes you too the main menu instead of back to the "Now Playing" screen where you were. However, if you are on "Now Playing" and choose "View Details" then "Lookup Artist" and hit "Back" it will return to "Now Playing" where it should.
Another bug I found was if I add "Random Play All" to the main menu (or use if through Music Library/DJ/Random Play All) the Zen will come up with a message "No Tracks In Music Library" and erase whatever current playlist I have in memory instead of random playing all tracks on the Zen.
A couple things I should mention that may help. My Mp3s have had all of their ver 2 - ID3 tags removed so there is no ver 2 information in them. All my Mp3s have ver - ID3 tags with only Artist, Title, and Genre information filled out (all other fields are blank). So I'm assuming the blank album field is the reason I never see anything listed under Albums (it would be HELLA nice if the Zen defaulted to showing track names under an artist instead of albums so you didn't have to then select "menu/view" all to see all song titles, or at least add an option to view track or albums by default in System/Player Setting)! This would ROCK!

  • Bugs in firmware for Nokia 3250!!!!!

Hello! My name is Paul.I am from Ukraine. I am Nokia 3250 user. There are lots of bugs in this smartphone which have to be corrected in the latest version of the phone software. The first thing to correct is the problem with the working speed. I mean that the phone is very slow. Some times I need to wait for a 30 seconds to turn on a menu, musical player, camera etc. Another thing to fix is the voice, because it became worse in phone software v 4.14 comparing to 3.21. The voice in Games and aplications is also bad. Also there are some problems with camera. As for me the main problem in it is that when I take a picture of a book or copyboook or simple page theri is a big orange spot in the sentre of rhe picture and also the picture not very clear. Then there is a problem with the Real Player. When I am watching video there the sound is going quicker then the picture. But that's not all.... I think it would be better to improve video editor. Because comparing to the phones of other brands there is lack of functions there. The thing to do about the phone is to do some improvments about the menu, maybe to provide more functionality.
    Thanks Paul!

  • Strange boot bug; open firmware not working

    Hi!
I have a powerbook Alu 15", 1.5Ghz. It runs OS X 10.4.2 with the latest security update. My problem started last Saturday.
The problem is that my pb will not restart nor boot on its own. The computer makes its usual chime, the hard-disk starts to spin for a few second, and then stops suddenly before anything is displayed on the screen (the display does not even light-up). If I press the option key after or before the chime, and keep it pressed, or the shift key, or the c key, or the t key, or the command-option-p-r key combination, or even the command-option-o-f key combination, the behavior is exactly the same: the disk starts to spin for a few second after the chime, and suddenly halts. The computer appears to shutdown on its own before the boot can even start.
Here is the strange part: the computer boots normally if I press the command key (this key on its own is not suppose to do anything). It also works if I press the command-s or command-v key combination. No other key combination seem to work.
Except for this strange boot behavior, the computer works flawlessly. I did not have any kernel panic for at least a year, the computer did not crash recently, everything works fine except for one small detail on which I will come back at the end.
I've tried to fix the problem by the following actions:
    1) Clean install of Tiger with a new partitioning of the disk; I even zeroed the entire disk. This did not change anything so the problem is probably not OS related.
    2) Reset of the PMU with the four finger salute: shift-control-option-power combination. No effect except that I lost the date/time information. Hence the reset worked.
    3) Tried to reset the PRAM, but the command-option-p-r key combination does not seem to work.
    4) Tried to load the open firmware with command-option-o-f, but this does not work either.
    5) Memory seems ok. I have 1x256M of Apple RAM + 1x1G of RAM bought from OWC. I've had the OWC RAM for about a year without any problem. Anyway, I removed the 1G module and tried to boot on the 256M Apple module alone. Exact same behavior. Then I removed the Apple module and put back the 1G module. Exact same boot behavior. So the problem is not with my RAM, unless both modules have simultaneously developed a malfunction.
    6) Tried to run the Apple hardware tests. However, for my machine, these tests come on the install DVD, in a special hidden volume. To boot on this special volume, one needs to boot with the option key depressed, and to select the boot volume from the open firmware interface. But this does not work on my machine, the computer seems to shut down before this interface can be activated!
So this problem is very strange. I can live with having to press the command key for booting my machine, but I would sure like to know what is going on here. Is the problem hardware related? Perhaps, but as I said, the machine works flawlessly except for the strange boot behavior.
Is the problem related to firmware? I think that this is the most probable option. What do you think? Maybe, the firmware got slightly corrupted? Maybe a bit got flipped in the flash memory? Is this possible? I guess so. But, what can I do? Should I contact my friendly local repairman?! I have to admit that this option scares me a little bit for such a strange problem. I would need an Apple engineer with boot related experience/expertise!
Now, here is a little bit of further information. I don't know if its related, but it is also very strange. I work with a dual screen configuration. Usually, I connect my screen and then I wake up the computer. Last week, I noticed that if I connect my second screen live, the system detects it automatically. I guess this is new to Tiger? Anyway, the strange behavior is that the computer then asks me if I want to sleep, restart or shutdown my pb, as if I had pressed the power button. But I did not press this button when I connected the dvi connector >:-o
    Many thank

    Hi Scott!
Almost every time the PowerBook woke after sleep, I got the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message.
I get this message upon wake only rarely, but every time I plug or unplug a display live.
The strange behaviour was tolerable, so I've lived with it for several months. But then when checking out the PowerBook discussions, I read about the failing lower RAM slot problems, and just out of interest, checked out my System Profiler....
Ok, so the good news is that my pb may continue to work for several months
My lower RAM slot appears to be ok for now.
Interestingly, I'm sure that the start-up problems began when I started using my PowerBook with a 23" Apple Cinema Display (a pink hued one, but that's another on-going saga) - and you too have mentioned that you use an external display, so I wonder if that's part of the cause of our start-up problems.
Yes, I've noticed the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message just a few days before noticing the strange boot problem (not sure if the machine booted in between). I use ViewSonic displays (one at home and one at the office), and several different projectors in different class rooms. From what I read, it is plausible that there is a link between this problem and the dvi port. Could it be that the boot sequence of mb is affected by a hardware problem on the dvi port? But not when a press the command key?!
Anyway, my machine is no longer under warranty, so I intend to live with the problem for as long as possible...
But I've been doing more regular backups since then.
Best wishes to you and your (almost) new machine!
    Marc.

  • Bugs in X121e firmware

I have noticed the firmware/bios of the ThinkPad X121e has had some issues from the start. Some (sometimes newly introduced) issues have been resolved as should be clear from the changelogs, but still many rather serious or annoying bugs seem to persist
I might be a good idea to collect various experiences with issues appearing to be firmware-related.
To kick it off (for the E-350 models):
    1) The setting for 'Fn Key Lock' is not consistent after resuming a suspended computer. (for more details look at this thread on thinkpad-forum.de or on this forum.
     2) It appears the EFI settings/BIOS can be disturbed critically if more than a certain amount of data is written to the EFI boot option catalog ((using windows' boot editor or linux efibootmgr/efivars) for example when multi-booting  or swapping boot loaders/changing operating systems). The result is a computer which cannot add new boot loaders even when deleting previous ones and not being able to save various BIOS-settings. With some bad luck this could lead to an unbootable situation.
I have noticed the firmware/BIOS team can respond quickly to errors (for example the password bug* was fixed quite fast), that is why I am a bit surprised a bug lik 1) can persist for such a long time.
Have others noticed the same/additional (probably firmware related) bugs?

firmware 1.16 has just been released, unfortunately it addresses none of the issues...

  • Bug in Macbook Pro firmware (2009 mid)

    Dear all,
Recently, I bought a new Macbook Pro (2009 mid model). I found that there was a problem in illuminated keyboard. Logically, the backlight of keyboard should be darker if the light source of surrounding environment is strong. However, it is totally opposite!! The backlight of the keyboard will turn dark if the light source is weak!! I guess it should be the bug in firmware.

    Fatpandapanda wrote:
Logically, the backlight of keyboard should be darker if the light source of surrounding environment is strong.
I don't think that's true. In bright light, the keyboard backlight is off. When the light sensor detects that ambient is below a certain lux value, the keyboard backlight is activated. When the ambient light is +just below+ that value, there is still a fair amount of light in the room - in that case, the keyboard backlight needs to be relatively brighter to be effective. When the room is pitch black, the keyboard backlight should be relatively dimmer, since less brightness is required to see the keys if there is almost no ambient light. The same is true for the display - the brighter the ambient light, the brighter your display needs to be.
What should happen, for example if you're in a brightly lit room with a dimmer switch - with room light at full brightness, the keyboard backlight is off. As you dim the lights, at some point the keyboard backlight will come on, and be at it's brightest (or as bright as you have the setting). As you continue dimming the room light, the keyboard backlight also gets dimmer. When the room light is all the way off, the keyboard backlight is at its lowest brightness.
However, if what's happening is that in bright room light the keyboard backlight is still active, that is a bug (if everyone with your configuration is experiencing it), or a glitch (try a PRAM reset), or a hardware problem with your machine (call AppleCare).

  • Bugs in Nokia ME firmware v3.0705.1.0.31

I've found some bugs on firmware v3.0705.1.0.31 RM-133 for the N73 Music Edition, thought they are worth mentioning for possible resolution in the next revision for the ME:
If you have auto-redial turned on which doesn't actually work, instead when dialling a number if the network gives a recorded message or the number is busy (network busy tone), the phone doesn't allow you to hang up by pressing the end key. In the UK, my operator's announcements and busy/error tones time out but whilst over on holiday in Norway and roaming on NetCom, I had to reboot the phone to end the recorded message!
Another issue is with the Bluetooth, when using the phone in Bluetooth mode through the CK-7W car kit. The phone doesn't drop the car radio mute when ending the call, resulting in your car radio remaining silent or in 'call' mode.
I've also found is that when the phone is in the car connected to the CK-7W via the pop-port and the screen is lit, if someone calls and they end the call, then the lights go out! Pressing any button on the phone will re-activate the backlight and it will then stay on continously again. If you end the call by pressing 'end' before they hang up, then this is not a problem and the backlight stays on.
Something else I've noticed on the N73 versus the 6680 I used to have is that the sound quality of calls through the pop-port on the car kit does not sound anywhere near as good as you'd expect from other Nokia's like the N70 or N80 etc. Music from the player sounds fine, it's just the call quality that sounds very shrill and tinny.
    Cheers
    Neil.

  • Updated firmware of Creative Zen Nano P

Questions?. Why do i need to download new updated firmware every now and then?2. WHat is the disadvantages if i don't download new updated firmware every now and then?3. What is the difference of the updated firmwares found in creative download section and the DAPJukebox website?4. Which is has the best quality firmwares, the creative download section or the DAPJukebox website?thanks?

All software regardless how good the quality control will have bugs.
Firmware is just software that is stored in the hardware on your device. New firmware is often released by a company to fix bugs or possibly add functionality that could enhance the use of a device.
But it is also possible that a new firmware update might add a new bug or two. (a rare occurance)?Sometimes (unfortunatly) new firmware upgrades can end up removing a feature.
For example it appears creative was under some legal pressure to remove the radio recording feature from there devices. On the ZVM, it was removed in one firmware upgrade, then in a later one it was replaced. On the Zen Nano Plus it was removed in the latest firmware upgrade (which is actually a bit old in calendar terms right now), but they have not released a later version that adds the recording back in. So in the case o fthe Zen Nano Plus, an firmware upgrade could be considered a bad thing.
If you require and use the radio recording functionality, then upgrading to the latest version (to fix some minor bugs) could end up crippling some of the functionality of the device. Normally when new firmware is released, there are notes detailing changes in functionality, bugs fixed, and even bugs that still exist. By looking at the information you can determine if you want/need to upgrade to the latest firmware.
Since there is some inherent risk in upgrading a firmware, most people don't upgrade firmware unless they need the new functionality or are experiencing a bug of some kind on the device that the new firmware might possibly remedy.

    2. Calls made and I couldn't hear the ringing tone but the receiver's phone rang.
    3. Calls received and I can't hear the caller but they could hear me.

  • Nokia C3-00 Firmware Updating issue

I am trying to update my Nokia C3 from V 4.45 to V 7.20 through nokia software updater. After 10 min remaining timer shown, I get an error message "Software update failed. For optimum connectivity, your USB cable should be...". I tried updating on desktop and laptop too but it gives me same error. Any idea how to resolve this issue?

Hello nokia, i am very much dissapointed by updating my nokia C3-00 firmware version from v4.65 to v07.20. In previous update of v4.65(which was my first update) everything was working great, but now after updating to v07.20 it shows so many bugs. Even the apps don't run at all, and displays 'application error' all the time. Bottom line - I request to nokia software engineers to take some sudden action and please provide us ( nokia lovers and believers) a new bugs free firmware for c3-00 as soon as possible. Thanks
