Bug in iPhoto v6 when using Mail

Bug in image quality when sending photos with Mail.
Description:
I click on Email icon in iPhoto, and then choose Medium as the quality, that's when iPhoto tells me that the Photo Count = 1, and Estimated Size = 122Kb. And then the Mail app opens, and I see the same photo inside the message composition window, and now Mail tells me that the Message Size = 55Kb (on the status line at the bottom). And When I send that photo to myself, I receive a photo which is about 40Kb in size, and the photo looks just terrible... how can it look good at 640x480 with only 40Kb?
Is this a bug, or I can change the jpeg quality somewhere? My friend has a 2-year old iMac with iPhoto 5 and when she sends me pictures the same Medium size they are closer to 100Kb each
We did a little test: I sent her the same photo in original size, and then she sent me back the Medium Size, and it was around 90Kb. How can I fix/change this, or am I cursed by this BUG in iPhoto v. 6? or a bug in Mail?
Thanks.
MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Misio:
Even though iPhoto said the final size would be 122 KB for a medium size, my test, a 4.2 MB file came in at 68 KB. Another test with a 2 MB file was estimated at 122 KB but came in around the 68 KB size. I think the 122 kb value is hard coded into the application as an approximation only before compressing and not really a bug. Maybe a poor approximation, however.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Hello All,
    I hope that someone can help me with this issue. I am using MAIL to send photos via the iPhoto button. Everytime I try sending a photo using this method, the computer freezes up and I can't even forcequit, restart, open up AMON..nothing! Someone please explain to me why it is doing this and what possible solutions there are. I looked on the forums for a previously posted issue, and I wasn't able to find anything. Thanks in advance for the help.

    I have no crapware; I also don't have any anti-viral software because when I bought my Mac the guy said I didn't need it.
    I usually have Mail, Calendar, Stickies and Safari going.  If I launch iPhoto, my system totally slows down, almost to the point that I almost give up waiting.

  • Why do I get a spinning wheel when using Mail

    Recently I have noticed that I get the rainbow spinning wheel when using Mail.
    I have upgraded to Mavricks
    This seems to happen when looking for an address
    Also when I attempt to move emails from inbox to another mailbox this does not happen.

    A general cure for Mail problems is Mailbox > Rebuild.  Don't know if it applies to your problem but it shoud not hurt.
    P.S.  Have a current Time Machine or other backup before attempting any major software updates or rebuilds.

Have I set the connection between Hotmail and my Mac incorrectly? It was very automated so I don't know what I did incorrectly. Can anyone out there give me a tip?

  • When using mail on my iMac, my folders disappeared.  Using OS X Yosemite v 10.10.1 and Mail v 8.1 How do I get them back?

    When using mail on my iMac, my folders disappeared.  I am using OS X Yosemite v 10.10.1 and Mail v 8.1 How do I get them back?

    The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
    In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.

  • Thin flickering white line at the very top of screen when using mail

    using an imac 27 inch, new...
    there is a thin flickering white line at the very top of screen when using mail.
    usually when sending a mail or when the cursor moves over a link ( in apple mail )
    the flickering line is just under the very top menu bar which has the date on etc...
    anyone else had this or know how to fix it?
    cheers

    I am facing the same problem. In fact mac book pro 13 retina was in the 14 day period so I got it retuned today, after directions from the apple telephone support. However, the new machine I got in exchange has the same problem or flickering line under the menu tab.
    The only relief it seems is the fact that it's not a hardware problem probably. I also think so because if I do a full screen which essentially means there is no menu bar, then there is no flickering white line.
    Hope apple fixes this. Sad to notice this drop in apple quality, and yet not fixed.

  • IPhoto-originated email using Mail sends no text

    When using the email feature from iPhoto 4.0.3, a new message window opens in my default mail program - Apple Mail - without the photo in it. The attached photo does, however get emailed, even if I can't see it.
    The real and far more irksome trouble is that whatever I type in the message is simply discarded, and all that goes out is the attached photo. I verified this first by checking the contents of Sent folder as well as sending test messages to myself. If I check either or both titles or comments, those are included, but no other text that I enter.
    The workaround, quite clunky, is to save to Drafts, then open the draft and enter the text there and then send that.
    I can't find anything in prefs for either application that addresses this. I have quit and relaunched and restarted. All no good.
    Any ideas on why iPhoto combined with Mail is mucking up like this? Advice would be much appreciated, which i suppose is a pretty common sentiment around here....

    Thanks for your reply. No, no mistake, i'm running 10.4.6 and iPhoto 4.0.3. When I downloaded v.6 it told me that it was uninstallable owing to there not being a qualified version present on the drive. So, it does not appear that 10.4 got me iPhoto 6 -- was it supposed to? My computer and Apple seem to hink not. And any other ideas as to why this should be happening? I don't feel like spending the money to upgrade to v.6.

  • When using mail icon i get a blank screen with No message selected on the RH side. Top left is the word thread in  black . all other buttons are greyed out except the send new mail one. Cna anyone help?

    Email does not appear when using the mail icon on the home screen. I get No message selected showing on the rh side of my screen with the left hand third of the screen blank. Buttons on the top line are greyed out except the new mail one. The word thread appears in black on the top left hand side of the screen The only way out is to close the screen. all other apps work okay.

    Hello calverone,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    To start troubleshooting this issue where the Mail application is not appearing correctly on your iPad, I'd like you to please force the Mail app to quit, and then restart your iPad.
    iOS: Force an app to close
    Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    Have a great weekend,

  • Mail adapter fails when using Mail Package Format

    Hi.
    Using XI 3.0 stack level 9.
    When i set up the mail adapeter to Use mail package format (by ticking the "Use Mail Package") checkbox I get the following error :
    "error occured: [2005-09-14T09:42:46Z] unable to call the mailer; com.sap.aii.messaging.srt.BubbleException: Failed to call the endpoint  [null "null"]; nested exception caused by: com.sap.aii.messaging.util.XMLScanException: expecting end tag: Mail, but found Subject at state 1".
    The scenario is basic : file in mail out.
    File coming in has the structure :
    <ns:Mail xmlns:ns="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Mail/30">
      <ns:Subject>Sap test</ns:Subject>
      <ns:From>SAP</ns:From>
      <ns:To>[email protected]</ns:To>
      <ns:X_Mailer>Outlook</ns:X_Mailer>
      <ns:Content>Contect</ns:Content>
    </ns:Mail>
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Rodney,
    try to use the following structure...
    <ns:Mail xmlns:ns="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Mail/30">
      <Subject>Sap test</Subject>
      <From>SAP</From>
      <To>[email protected]</To>
      <X_Mailer>Outlook</X_Mailer>
      <Content>Contect</Content>
    </ns:Mail>
    The namespace should only be included in the Mail tag. On our side it works fine with the mentioned structure.
    Hope it helps...
    Regards,
    Lars

  • When using mail on my ipad, can I hide the left hand column so it is easier to read the mail

    Can the left Hand column be hidden when using an ipad for mail?

    If you holding iPad in landscape orientation then no, if you hold it in portrait then the list of emails/folders should automatically hide when you select an email

  • Default Mail Font ignored when using "Mail this webpage" in Safari

    This is not really a problem but more of a puzzling irritant.  I often use the "Mail this webpage" option in Safari (the small envelope icon in the tool bar) which opens a draft email with the then-current webpage's URL already embedded in the text area.  Prior to Mavericks when using this option the draft note triggered by Safari reverted to my default Mail font already selected via Mail's preferences pane.  Just as I would want it.  Ever since Mavericks though, when I click the envelope icon it brings up the draft email with the URL as before, but the text font for that note defaults to Times, not my previously-selected default Mail font (Lucinde Grande just for clarity).  So to stay consistent with my other email styling I have to manually click the draft email's Format button, select Lucinde Grande, and then begin typing.  I can find no place in either Safari's or Mail's preferences or options where I can change the default "send an email triggered in Safari" font. Emails originated in Mail properly use the default Lucinde Grande font.
    Once I go through the above and send the note, if I later repeat the same "mail via Safari" acion, the new note is again defulting to Times and I have to go through all of the above again.
    A companion oddity is that when I go through this and click the Format button once, nothing happens.  I click it a second time and then the font selection options are presented.  This happens consistently on 3 separate installs of Mavericks in our house (two iMacs and a MBP), and it has been this way from OS 10.9.0 through the updates to the current 10.9.2.  Any ideas, or anyone else experiencing this?  Thanks.

    This is very annoying behavior.
    I have a sudo work-around, although it's really just a different set of steps. If you use the new Share button (square with arrow icon) than the resulting email consists of a url at the top and text from the page below that. The first line of the email (empty) and the url are in the default mail font. Now just delete the text that was added from the page.
    I use this method because it seems like if I do it the other way the new message will sometimes go back to Times when I hit Return a couple times.

  • Bug in HttpServletRequest.getParameter when using anchors (#)?

    When using
    response.sendRedirect("getParameterError_display.jsp?parm1=blurb&parm2=moreblurb#myanchor");
    to redirect to a jsp, a call to getParameter in that JSP for parm2 returns "moreblurb#myanchor" rather than "moreblurb".
    I thought originally that I was building the URL incorrectly but IE5 navigates correctly to the anchor point in my HTML.
    Is this a bug in getParameter or am I doing something wrong?
    Many Thanks, full code below.
    getParameterError.jsp

    Output
    The paramaters are:
    parm2 = moreblurb#myanchor
    parm1 = blurb

    I get the same problem in Tomcat 4.0.1. Fixed it by terminating the param string with "&".
    e.g. instead of
    String newURL = "getParameterError_display.jsp?parm1=blurb&parm2=moreblurb#myanchor"; try
    String newURL = "getParameterError_display.jsp?parm1=blurb&parm2=moreblurb&#myanchor";This worked in IE6 and Netscape 6.2. Hope it works for you.
