Bug in moving windows?

Has anyone else noticed a problem with moving windows around by dragging them from the title bar:
It used to be possible to move them off screen right, left, and down. Movement off the screen to the top was prevented, however: The pointer remaining at the edge of the screen, and the window moving no higher than the system menu bar.
Now there seems to be a bug: This upwards movement restriction seems to switch on and off randomly - sometimes, the window is kept on screen as it should be, but a second later, it can be dragged off screen towards the top.
I've had a look and can't find a mention of this anywhere. I vaguely remember there was a preferences option "Keep windows on screen" or something along those lines, but can't find it anywhere.
I'm running 10.8.5 completely up to date.

Support for moving automation is pretty much horrible all around.
If you select all in the arrange window with automation visible, it only selects regions... so if you select all and move stuff, automation not associated with a region will stay put. Selecting automation on its own is difficult because you can barely see what's selected, and using the automation selection tool can select across multiple tracks but not move automation for multiple tracks at once.
Also, adjusting the song start will keep regions in the same place in relation to bar 0, but will move automation... or something.
It makes puppies cry.

    Hello,
    While in floating mode resizing/moving windows results in them not being redrawn till the action is finished.
    Once xcompmgr is not runing everything works as intended - windows are redrawn a ok. Is dwm missing
    some code to support this, or is it yet another xcompmgr bug ?

  • Compiz, moving windows not smooth

    Hello
    I've runned in to a little enoying problem, when moving windows on my desktop while compiz is activated the animations isn't too smooth, nothing extreme but not perfect. But when enabling the compiz Benchmark they're smooth, It feels like compiz isn't refreshing often enough when the benchmark isn't enabled.
    Is there a setting to change the update interval for compiz somewhere? Anyone who have encountered the same issue?
    Thanks
    // Lazze

    Hello again
    I've just found out how to make compiz a bit more smooth and I thought it would be best to post it here if someone else encounters the same issue.
    To make compiz more smooth just do:
    Open CompizConfig Settings Manager.
    Go to General Option and the the Display Settings tab.
    Uncheck the Detect Refresh Rate checkbox and move the Refresh Rate slider to max.
    Moving it to max may increase the usage of your gpu since it will render the screen more often, lower the Refresh Rate a bit if it seems too high.

  • Moving windows is jittery.....

    Moving windows around by clicking the top edge looks very jittery to me. The movements are not smooth at all. Looks like a refresh phenomenon except I'm using an Apple Cinema Display with no refresh adjustment.
    When I grab the bottom right corner of a window, as if to resize it, I can move that corner all around as fast or slow as I like and the movement is super smooth.
    Also noticed that scrolling with Mighty Mouse is very jittery and choppy. All this seems like the computer is on a 1/4 second refresh rate. It seems a function of time rather than a function of distance or speed. The farther and faster the movement the choppier it is. Go slow and you have
    relatively smooth movements.
    As if the processors are extremely busy all the time. Activity monitor shows stopping and starting of various unknowns constantly as always. Nothing new there.
    Moving any desktop items also demonstrates the jitters and same unsmooth movement as above.
    Any thoughts???

  • Moving windows in spaces has lag

    there is a very noticeable delay when moving windows between spaces. although it’s not really a problem, it is disconcerting.

    Bumping this because it's persisting for me. Has anyone figured out a fix? It's like there is a rubber band between your mouse pointer and the point on the window that you're dragging in Spaces, such that as you drag around the window follows the mouse but kind of bounces and lags as though the rubber band were stretching. And it almost like they built in some Newtonian inertial physics into to. It's not really just a lag per se. But it's definitely annoying.

  • Moving windows without the use of a mouse

    Is it possible to move windows around the screen without using a mouse? I mostly use keyboard shortcuts to navigate around, but if a new window opens on top of a previous one and I need to be able to view both, I find myself reaching for the mouse. Is there an alernative?
    Thanks in advance!

    Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    tell application "Finder"
    set bounds of window 1 to {55, 278, 837, 696}
    end tell
    You can use the Command+Tab shortcut to navigate to the Script Editor and Command+R to run the script. The four numbers refer to the corners of the window, with the first pair being the location of the upper left corner and the second pair the lower right. Many applications use the same syntax for moving windows.

  • Fitting an SSD to the T420, and moving Windows to it WITHOUT a reinstall

    Hi there,
    I'd seen some threads around about the T420's suitability for an SSD in the WWAN slot. Well I've just received my T420, and had ordered one of the Intel 80GB mSATA SSDs. I spent this evening moving the Windows install from the 500GB hard drive to the SSD, and didn't need to reinstall. I don't know why Lenovo don't offer the SSD as an option!
    So I bought the 80GB Intel mSATA SSD from Ingram Micro; you can just fit it into the wireless WAN (i.e. 3G slot) in the T420 - took about 5 minutes, and you just have to tuck the aerial leads out of the way when you put the bottom back on. The BIOS detects the SSD without a problem.
    M'colleague Pete suggested the trick to avoid a reinstall of Windows 7. In brief, we shrank the HDD's Windows partition down to 50GB, created a mirror of it on the SSD, then rebooted off the SSD and removed the mirror.
    In some detail:
    1) make a recovery disc before you start (I didn't but I know this stuff!);
    2) defragment your C drive (right click under My Computer, go to Properties->Tools and choose defragment). Took about 45 minutes to finish on mine;
    3) go to Computer Management -> Storage -> Disc Management;
    4) right-click both the SSD, and the internal hard drive, and convert both of them to Dynamic Disks
    5) right-click the larger of the two windows partitions on your hard disc, and shrink them to the size of your SSD (i.e. 74GB if you want to use the whole SSD for Windows) - wait for that to complete;
    6) create a mirror of the first two partitions on the hard drive, mirroring them to the SSD (i.e. right-click each partition, click Add Mirror, and choose Disk 1 as the destination);
    7) wait for the mirrors to complete (i.e. the Rebuilding... message will go away).
    8) start an administrator-mode command prompt (go to Start, type "command" and click the "Command Prompt" option while holding ctlr+shift);
    9) type "bcdedit /enum" and note the long number associated with the SECOND boot option. Then type "bcdedit /default {xxx}" where xxx is the number. For good measure type "bcdedit /timeout 2" to make sure you see the menu and can fix a mistake manually;
    10) reboot the system - before it comes back you'll see the windows boot loader menu - choose the second option (should be the default), which is to boot off your SSD
    11) when windows comes back up, you can go back to the Disk Manager and choose "Remove mirror" for disk 0, and you can reclaim the space. Hooray!
    That is about the minimum that you need to do to move the partition and get it to boot.
    I wasn't sure how to tell windows to install a bootloader on the SSD, and completely disengage the hard drive from the boot process, but I'm sure someone will fill me in.
    NB I've not tested the above sequence PRECISELY, as I had some further fiddling to get my Linux installation to work, which isn't relevant to the above trick. I'd be interested to know if it works for someone else - as I said, please make sure you have your recovery DVDs and backups handy just in case.

    You could have used Intel's Clone tools. My experience is that you are better off following the prescribed method of using the rescue disks to do a reinstall. The system seems to boot faster that way.

    Windows cannot boot because of missing/corrupt hal.dll! Help!

    Hi,
    make sure you have disconnected all non-essential external devices (printers, scanners, external harddisk) prior to installing BootCamp Windows.
    Leave only mouse, keyboard and display connected.
    Make sure that your XP CD is either retail or OEM/systemBuilder version and not a manufacturer-bundled one.
    Also make sure that the CD is 'clean' (no dust, no scratches, etc.).
    Use the BootCamp Assistant to revert back to one single OSX volume.
    Use OSX Disk Utility to Verify your harddisk and repair permissions.
    Retry the XP installation from scratch.
    Generally using NTFS is more likely to not getting the 'missing hal.dll' error.

  • Mac Pro - Scrolling/moving windows Really Jerky and delayed....

    Not sure what's happeneing here... This is a brand New Machine, with ProTools 8 Installed as the only major program. There are ProTools Cards (HD2) and a BalckMagic Decklink HD Pro.
    When ever I open a new windown In Finder, Safari, or any other program, the scrolling function is extremely jerky, delayed, and unusable. Moving a window around on the desktop is the same. Otherwise, computer seems fine. ANy ideas onhow to deal with this? This simply can't be right. Myn Other Mac Pro (2008) works just fine.
    Thanks,
    Todd A.

    Are there updates for BlackMagic or ProTools to be more compatible?
    When did you last run Disk Warrior?
    Any problem installing and updating software or drivers?
    Can you do a clean install or have a backup copy and try?
    Last and least desireable, try with just basic hardware and system.
    Your 2009 has a later build of OS X that still isn't out publicly. It should and could be used on your old Mac Pro and you could test it there. But your system from the 2008, that won't run properly at all on this system.

  • JDev 10.1.3 Prod Bug in Structure Window when using PL/SQL and Stored Types

    Using JDev 10.1.3 build 3673
    When loading/editing a PL/SQL package with code like the following:
    rec := NEW Record001Row;
    Where Record001Row is a stored type on the database gives an "Error Expecting ;" in the JDev Structure Window. Once the above line is commented out, the PL/SQL program structure appears in the Structure Window. I can then uncomment the above line and the structure of the PL/SQL program stays, but the "Error Expecting ;" still appears.

  • Moving windows in Jaguar

    I have been using Mozilla Firefox and frequently notice that when I move one browser window to the side so I can look at another browser window, the window pops right back to where it was, several times in a row. It may do this with other applications too but I'm not sure because I'm in the middle of using Firefox at the moment. I have 10.2.8 OS. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to be doing to make it easy to slide a window to the side without it bouncing right back to where it was immediately after I slide it? I feel like this must be something everyone knows how to handle but me.
    Also, I am a little afraid to buy a new Mac in the future because I keep running into weird problems like this that I never encountered with Windows. The software always has to be upgraded when I upgrade your OS and that's too expensive for me, and they're constantly changing the operating system without back compatibility on software. These glitches worry me. I think I read of something similar happening with iTunes in OS 10.5 while researching this window moving problem.
    I guess I'll keep having to remember to "eject" external firewire hard drives in Mac because they're not as plug and play as in windows. I'm going to try to justify the added expense of getting a mac but I have to look at the problems I'm adding for myself if I keep having a mac. I've had macs since system 7 but I feel like I keep getting getting suckered in some ways and that it may not be so superior to windows as they like to market it. I just was at a recording studio yesterday where they had a windows and a mac with Tiger and protools on both; naturally the Mac wouldn't boot properly and no matter how many times they tried to reinstall protools it wouldn't work, so they have to reformat their drive and lose all their applications. The windows machine had no problem at all. Didn't make me feel very confident about again investing in another mac such as the Mac Pro or Mac Book Pro with leopard, especially since Leopard is not compatible with protools. But that's another story, just an example of things that are making me less than sure I should buy mac in the future. Plus Apple used to not make you pay extra for support and now they do.

    I have now downloaded MacJanitor 1.2.1 for Jaguar. But I have no idea how to use it or what the "cron scripts" are. I have looked at some references to them in the Read Mes for the MacJanitor. But I'm not sure why I never heard of them before or how to use the "cron scripts" or what they are.
    I also don't know if this 10.2.8 update you mention is something that would have been updated with my automatic updates normally?

  • Swing Applet Repainting during moving window

    Hi,
    I've run into a problem with my swing JApplet. One of the elements of my GUI is a JLabel that contains a single Image. After the GUI is created, a seperate thread changes the image and prompts the JPanel containing the JLabel to repaint().
    Now, this works perfectly with the AppletViewer using java 1.4.2.03. However, when I run the applet through Microsoft's Internet Explorer using Sun's VM 1.4.2.03 plugin, I notice a problem. If I take the window containing the applet and (assuming it is NOT maximized) move it around the screen, the JLabel's image will not always be drawn at the correct place. It will often overlap some of the other GUI elements.
    I read something that Threads and Applets don't mix which suggested using the SwingUtilities.invokeLater() function, but I need this Thread to sleep() and didn't know how to make it do so because I never see the Thread class through the invokeLater() method.
    It solves the problem if rather than have the JLabel repaint itself, I have the entire applet repaint itself, but this is not the ideal solution. Is there any way to determine when the window containing the applet is being moved and then force the applet to repaint itself entirely? Am I going about this wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    B. Danny K.

    The content pane of a JApplet is a JPanel. So you need to use the getContentPane() method and cast the Compnent to a JPanel before you can use revalidate(). However, as you have discovered 99% of the time a validate() also works.
    Note, that is you are using a BorderLayout then you should be removing the old component before adding the new component.

  • Bug with probe window?

    I was doing some debugging in LV 2012  (not SP1) and discovered this.  I have been able to duplicate it in 2011.  LV 2009 and LV 2010 do not show this problem.
    1. Run the attached VI (saved as LV2009 so you can try in different versions.)
    2. Place a probe on either the timestamp wire or the iteration terminal wire.  You will see the values update.
    3. Right click on the data on the probe window and pick Open Window.  This creates a separate window and shows the data updating.
    4. Move the newly opened probe window.  Now the separate probe window stops updating.  The value in the master probe window stops updating.  Also the bubble on the wire that shows the probe number disappears.  The front panel continues to update like it should.
    In LV 2009 and 2010, the probe windows continue to update  In LV 2011 and 2012, they do not.
    I searched the forums and could not find anyone mentioning a probe bug like this.  Please verify the behavior and issue a CAR# if you agree it is a bug.

  • Problem moving window with pointer

    I'm having an odd problem with the finder. I'm running 10.4.7.When I click on the title bar of a finder window, or any application window to move it on the screen, I am able to move the window in any direction except down. The window stops moving, and the pointer continues, leaving the window behind. If the pointer then happens to "land" on anything selectable, it will pick that up instead. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Moving windows to other 'Spaces' on a Mac

    Hi everybody,
    I've found a couple of annoying little things in using CS4 compared to CS3, the main one being that I can no longer move windows between the OS Spaces like you used to.
    I click on the header, type the shortcut for the space I want to move to, and the screen goes to that space but the window doesn't go with me.
    Does anyone know how I fix this?

    I've tried that and I can move the windows across that way fine ... which is a big help, thanks.
    It still won't work the other way though, so has anyone else had problems moving them across with the shortcut?
