Bug in multicam

I've 8 cam to synchronise (without timecode), i make the multi cam and when i choose "synchronise with the control angle" the window (the right one)  become very little 5% only !
Another editor with the same MacBook Pro retina has the same problem.
I've tested the bug of the "sync clip to reference angle" on a new and fresh installed MacPro 2013, on Imac an Macbook pro and it's always the same thing. I've to resize the right window and as soon as I pass thru the second angle my window become small again.
Test made with, Pro res 422 from evs, dvcpro HD, or H264, always the same problem...see the video
http://youtu.be/pXKYmVFrVeU

Another problem to report :
I'm doing intensive tests for a producer who's wondering what NLE software he has to choose for it's new macPro making long (1 to 2 hours for TV) multi cam edit. I'm conviced that FCPX is the best one for this exercice but another thing annoys me. After the import of 6 90mn clip of Apple pro res 422 from EVS, FCPX render the waveform and same thing after creating the multicam, not really a problem. I begin the edit everything work like a charm, half hour edited. I begin again the next day and then I hear the disks activity (lots of things read or write), that's not time machine, no software running exept FCPX. If I stop FCPX, the drives are silent. There is no render in FCPX, monitoring show me 100%. I met two times this problem on a macbook pro retina and on the new macPro with a fresh install of FCPX.
Any experience, explanation ?

  • Some Serious Bugs in Multicam

Why has nobody fixed these major bugs? Makes the multicam feature Complete **** and unusable.
I have 3 cameras on a wedding shoot. Synced em all up using PLural Eyes, make a multicam sequence and dropped it in there. Enabled multicam. So not only does the audio not work only (only left channel), but the multicam is completely full of crap! My third camera wasn't on the whole time, it was short clips. So whenever my third camera would shut off, the fricken multicam desides to always switch to the default camera as soon as the third camera goes off. Who the heck would do that? Causes more problems. Not only this, but if my third camera goes off, the video display goes red and DISABLES my choice, I can't switch to a second camera! Why would I want to switch to my second camera? Well my third camera went off, which by defualt, the multicrap decides to go to defualt camera, which happens to be the third camera, so it goes to a blank screen! and the multicrap outlines a red box which disables my camera and I cant choose another camera until the third camera comes back on! What balony crap coding  nonsense is this?

I am not having this issue. ever.
and i even don't always have continuous video in the default track, i've just edited a concert shot with 4 cameras, all of them turned off sometimes due to various reasons, but no trouble to sync them, so i had holes in all 4 video tracks,
i just went back to the project to try to reconstruct your "bug" and failed to get the multicam to stop.

  • "Play in to out" bug with multicams (cc v7.2.2 and v8.0)

When looking at the audio waveforms for a multicam in the source panel, if I then set an in&out mark, then hit "Play in to out" it plays the previous in-to-out. This is really annoying when I'm trying to pull clean soundbites out of multicams. Anybody else notice this? I've observed it on multiple systems running os x 10.8.5 & 10.9.2

@Donna – actually there is a preference for enabling/disabling "Ungroup Remembers Layers" in the General Preferences of InDesign.
But it is not revealed in the UI. You can only access it by scripting. Here the code to set it to false (not checked) in ExtendScript/JavaScript:
    app.generalPreferences.ungroupRemembersLayers = false;
Note: Thanks to a hint by Olav Kvern, I could find it in my OMV* of the ESTK** after forcing the ESTK to create new OMV xml files by removing the old ones.
It's over my head why the ESTK isn't doing the update automatically, if a new dot version is installed over the old one.
Maybe someone here can shed a light on this.
It seems to be a bug in the ESTK, because the ESTK is only showing the wrong app version wheras if you ask for app.version it is telling the right one:

  • Dynamic Link Bug on Multicam?

I've edited some footage using multicam in the usual way, i.e. create a sequence, embed in another sequence, turn on multicam etc.
I've then copied the resulting edit in to another sequence (not embedded, just copied) to drop it in to an assembled program.  I'm now trying to stabilize a couple of shots but I've hit a problem.
    The sequence goes as follows:
    [ Clip 2 ] [ Clip 1 ][ Clip 2* ] [ Clip 1 ]
The clip I'm trying to stabilize is Clip 2* (the third one above).   When I right click and tell it to replace with an After Effects Comp (so I can use Warp Stabilizer) it launches After Effects but puts Clip 1 (the part of Clip 1 that was under the chosen Clip 2 in the multicam) in to after effects and not clip 2.
How can I get Clip 2 in to After Effects as a Comp?
To clarify, this would have been the multicam source tracks
    [ Clip 2 ] [ Clip 2 ][ Clip 2* ] [ Clip 2 ]
    [ Clip 1 ] [ Clip 1 ][ Clip 1* ] [ Clip 1 ]
So it's [Clip 1*] that's going to after effects and not [Clip 2*].
    What am I doing wrong?
    [  Mac 10.6.7,  CS5.5  ]

Hm-m-m... I can't actually recreate your weird AE output...
Well, lets try to move step by step...
When you right click on you clip in PrPro sequence, AE brings into two comps:
    - the first one is precise representation of your replaced clip in terms of time - it starts and stops exactly where you need;
    - the second one is representation of your nested Multicam sequence.
I assume, when you disabled eyeballs of unnecessary upper layers, you applied Warp Stabilizer onto your Master AE composition.
So, we should have got something like this:
Third clip in my example is replaced with stabilised AE comp.
Now select and right click previous clip.
AE brings into two comps again:
    - the first one is precise representation of your next clip in terms of time;
    - the second one represents your nested Multicam sequence and absolutely identical to what you might have seen when replaced your very first clip.
Although you may check of whether the playhead is in right position by just switching between appropriate Master and Nested comps tabs - they are linked in terms of time, treat nested comp just for bringing proper camera view back by disabling eyeballs of unnecessary upper layers.
Apply effects on Master comp, and here we are with two replaced clips:
If you were able to upload your PrPro project or a sample, which caused such a mess in AE comp, I would try to play around.
UPD: looks it's impossible to properly attach images after certain layer in the thread...

  • Bug causing multicam angles to disappear

I've seen several posts on this topic but none that provided a solution or workaround other than recutting my multiclips back into my sequence.
all of the multiclips in my sequence are missing all but their current angle. The original mutliclips in the bin have all angles, but when I match frame or try to switch angles on the onces cut into the sequence, there's only one angle there.
Trashing render files and turning off and then on the video track didn't work. Any other suggestions out there.
I'm looking at a 25 minute string out that is now useless and has to be recut unless I can fix this bug.

Jerry has solved the problem for me. Very grateful - but in the process of checking my work to see if I had uncollapsed my multiclips I made a discovery that certainly confused me and led to my problem.
Its about terminology - I think of the multiclip as being the five cam display I see in the Viewer. I thought collapsing and uncollapsing refered to that - doh!
In this context, FCP calls the result of multiclip editing "the multiclip" and when you collapse a multiclip you collapse the timeline edits and you do this by SELECTING ALL THE TIMELINE EDITS. It's possible to only select some or one of the timeline edits and collapse or uncollapse just it. Thus when I selected all the timeline I discovered that both collapse AND uncollapse where choice options. My problem was I had only collapsed parts of some of my Multiclip edits - I have several in each projet. Moral of this tale: SELECT ALL the Multiclip edits on the timeline to collapse or uncollapse a Multiclip.
    Thanks again Jerry

  • Multicam Sequence Error

I have a 3-camera multicam sequence that is 26 minutes long. I've gone through and edited the sequence, cutting between cameras. But for some reason when I close my session and reopen, the sequence changes at 15:48. What happens is that camera 2 and 3 are dropped, and camera one becomes a freeze frame. The first part of the sequence is fine, but it just changes at 15:48 every time.
I can't figure out why this is happening, and I've already re-cut the sequence twice only to have the same problem. Anyone else experienced this before?

There does seem to be a bug with multicam and Premiere Pro CC.

  • More multicam weirdness - CC

Okay... I have an unusual multicam with an even more unusual problem.
We are making short videos for a Spanish class.  These are mostly three cameras with additional, non-sync audio for each of the main actors.  Each video is shot in short takes with a little overlap that need to be put together in a multicam sequence.
I used the new audio sync feature to (successfully!) sync up about 70 files.  They auto sorted into a dozen different multiclips and, for the most part, Premiere was close to perfect!  This is wonderful since my Spanish is "no muy buena"!
I opened each of the multiclips in the timeline.  It is important that I include the audio from each of the actors so I turned all of the relevant audio tracks on.  I selected the best take from each multiclip and pasted these into a new sequence with the intent of making that into a multicam sequence the old fashioned way.  I suspect this is my problem.
When I drag this new nest to the new item icon I get a single video and audio track and all of the audio tracks play at once (all very good).  BUT when I enable the Multi-Camera most of the audio tracks (all of the useful ones) go away even though they were happily playing muxed in the nest before I enabled Multi-Camera!
Any ideas on why this is happening or how I could proceed differently?  I'd really like to use the multi-camera feature but it will be difficult to edit each little piece and then bring it into a finished sequence.
Here are some screen grabs to help:
My original, hand-made, nest called "ALL_techshop"
The new item created when "ALL_techshop" is dragged onto the new item icon.  All of the audio channels that I have turned on paly simultaneously
Enabling the Multi-Camera turns off all of the useful channels:

There may be a new cool simple way or button to take care of this, but if I understand your post correctly...did you try option+selecting just the video tracks only and then right-clicking and selecting "nest" then right-click again and select multi-camera>enable. That is how I used to do it on CS6 and it worked recently on CC. That way your video is nested all on one track but your audio remains untouched. I don't know why when you did it some of the tracks turned off. Might be something simple that's not being toggled on or off, not sure. But you can try what I suggested for now and see if it helps.
HOWEVER...please be aware before you start your multicam edit that there is a huge, giant, ugly, ridiculously unacceptable bug with multicam in Premiere Pro CC right now that has essentially broken the multicam experience. If you don't know about it, read about it below or you may be left losing hours of editing work:

  • Multicam quirks in Premiere CC

Anyone else seeing inconsistent and quirky behavior with new multicam in Premiere CC?
For example, my normal workflow is to have the multicam/program window on my right hand monitor and the timeline open in my left monitor. I drag the playhead in the timeline through the project, watch what the various camera shots are, and cut to cameras as needed via a ctrl+click, adding transitions when necessary. In CS6 this worked very well.
However in CC a couple of issues have come up that makes me wish for CS6, unless someone has some suggestions. All video is running from an adequately speedy external RAID. Usually working with Canon XF video and AVCHD clips.
The new "combined" program and multicam view doesn't pan out. I have an external SDI monitor and under CS6 I could see the final video, effects, transitions and everything on the external monitor. Now with CC when I'm in "multicam mode" I CANNOT see any effects, transitions, etc., just the raw cuts between camera views. To see effects and such I have to temporarily drop to "non-multicam" view (via button or shift+0) and then switch back. Probably someone is going to say "you shouldn't do it this way, you should first go through and choose your camera shots then go back through and add effects" but I don't care...I use to be able to work this way in CS6, why can't we in CC? Maybe I'm missing something.
There are a lot of playhead and multicam edit quirks introduced, possibly as a results of the new combined multicam window. When dragging the playhead in the timeline frequently I'll stop dragging, tap spacebar to hit play, and the playhead will jump back in time to some spot 10-20 seconds back. I can't explain this nor does it seem to happen in any reproducible way. To make matters worse if I'm dragging the playhead and find a spot I need to switch cameras I'll stop dragging, select the camera, only to cringe and find that the playhead jumped back 10 seconds and now my camera edit is in the wrong place! I tried to mitigate this by dragging the playhead in the program/mutlicam window (instead of the timeline window), but I don't like this because the audio waveform isn't right there in my line of sight anymore and also it introduced new gremlins. Quite often I would ctrl+click a camera and the yellow "select" rectangle would remain on the previous camera. But in my timeline and external monitor the new camera is showing! Erk, this little bugs are very annoying.EDIT: After more testing this bug is easily reproducible. WIth a multicam sequence drag the playhead in the timeline window far down in to the sequence and immediately hit spacebar, drag back near the beginning and hit play. Doing this repeatedly will eventually cause the playhead "jump" back to a previous position. It does not seem to happen when dragging the playhead in the multicam window. It does not seem to happen when in non-multicam mode and dragging the timeline playhead. So end result: the "jump" bug happens when in multicam mode and dragging the timeline playhead.
When switching between sequences very frequently the newly selected sequence will be marked "red" under the workbar and nothing will show on the external monitor. But if I quickly switch between multicam and non-multicam and back to multicam the red will dissappear and everything is normal.
Any tips would be appreciated. I'm not quite ready to dump CC since there are lots of appreciated performance improvements (spanned AVCHD clips are rock solid so far...fingers crossed).

  • When using Multicam in CS6 how do I choose which source file the audio comes from?

I've noticed when using the Multi-cam window to create edits, the audio does not change when I select the different video sources. How do I select which source file the audio comes from?

It doesn't make sense why the multicam source sequence only uses one track of audio. Was this by design? The issue with this as in my situation (and because I didn't know this) I recorded all my source videos with the music tracks on the right side which is what I'm using to cut my video with. Not being able to hear this while I'm cutting is really frustrating. There's a reason I separate dialog on the left side and music on the right. There should at a minimum be an option while setting up the multicam to choose more audio options. Even in the audio clip option settings, those don't seem to work when a clip is put into a multicam source sequence.
The other issue is when you bring in the audio after the fact or even before, there's no way to sync timecode with audio to the multicam sequence. When I create the Multicam source sequences in my project bin, I choose sync with timecode, not in points, because the record decks I'm using are all locked with a TC gen during the shoot.
Maybe I'm missing something, but there seems to be either a bug with multicam or a design flaw. Even in the help documentation, it states multiple audio tracks can be brought in with the multicam sequence, but only track one is enabled by default. I've never been able to have the MC sequence bring in more than one track of audio no matter what the audio settings are.

ok in laymens terms I create a multicam sequence using four video tracks and four audio tracks. Normally the start of the sequence would have all the video audio tracks in, however I have started by editing single clips in time line 1. After a min or so I then import all the multicam footage to time lines 2,3,4. So the the actual sequence starts with clips on a single timeline as oppossed to all 4 video and sound tracks filled.
I multicam edit them in a new sequence and on final go to export but it fails. and it fails giving an "unknown error" message because the start of the multicam only has clips on one timeline.
However if I go to the synced sequence (original sequence) copy all the single edits at the beginning, then go to the multicammed sequence and paste these clip straight over the same clips in the multicamed sequence it then exports ok with no errors. I have to do this with every multicam edit I do which is a pain.
now the text above say if I repeat the same process in CS5 not CS5.5 there is no unknown error message and no need to fiddle about copying and pasting so why so in CS5.5?
I know your gonna say simple just do your multicam in CS5 but my main bought plugins and effects are for CS5.5 including native Canon MXF support and AVCHD support so I need the CS5.5 really. its bugged and needs fixing.
    Better?

  • Multicam Editing Bug!!

So I have a project that is using 3 HD cameras and a Zoom Audio recorder for the master audio track, the project is about 35 mins.  All the cams and audio were synced up perfectly, however the problem is....a shot from the camera showed up again in the Canvas but the shot I want shows in the Angle Viewer at the same time.  Yes, the Canvas shows a different shot other than what is selected in the Angle Viwer.  The Angle Viewr has the correct shot but the Canvas/Timeline does not....this is the second time I seen this happen, before I had to completely start my edit over again and it has me livid!  I wonder why this is happening....anyone??  I this a known bug?? Please help I'm going crzy with this!!

strange bug. i dont know how to fix it, but a work around might be to make manual edits when you stop and go back, instead of using the multicam edit window.
can change keyboard shortcut for "Add Edit" , default is ctrl+k, but if you change it to something easier like just s for split or c for cut, then you can work faster. just have to be in the timeline window for the shortcut key to work.  after making edit point, select new clip in multicam to use. this might stop it from changing the camera angle of the previous edit.  locking the audio track or selecting the video clip sequence will keep it from adding an edit to all tracks.

  • 4k & 1080p footage in a multicam edit bug

This happened when I mixed 4k and 1080p footage in a multicam edit and on the multicam inside my editing timeline I changed the "Spatial Conform" to none so I can edit my 4k angle a bit more. When I change it back to "fit" everything works fine. Stupid bug  Is there any fix to this?

It appears to me that this is just a glitch in the display in the angle viewer, and it does not affect the output. If so, while mildly annoying, it is not a showstopper.
Anyway, try resizing the angle viewer a little and I expect this to disappear.

  • 2014 Multicam bug

Playback with a multicam timeline in 2014 can skip, stutter and hang. Our project worked perfectly fine before we updated to 2014. A bug occurs when changing a shot. Double clicking a multicam clip on the timeline, which loaded the five cameras being used, into the source monitor. Changing the camera for one of our clips, and it didn't matter what clip was used, began a playback issue. Playback in the sequence began to stutter and skip. Playback progressively gets worse if you try to ignore the problem too.
WORKAROUND: If a multicam clip is loaded into the source montitor, be sure to (Close All), in the source monitor. Thereby clearing out the cams that were loaded into the source monitor. We seem to have had success with playback in our multicam sequence and hopefully your playback will be nice and smooth again too.
    Have a great day!

There are now 3 versions of "2014," 8.0, 8.1, and now 8.2. Are you saying that you were on 7.2.2 and now you're on 8.2? You can find info on the version in "About Premiere Pro."

In the future, please try to avoid updating any project midway through it. It's best to complete a project in a single version of Premiere Pro. Same goes with OS. Don't update that until your project is complete.

Does the same problem happen with a brand new project and not one that you updated?

  • Viewer doesn't display correct frame from multicam. Bug?

I'm able to create a multicam clip no problem for 3 clips.  I've assigned my clips Camera Angle names and used Camera Angles for ordering the clips and automatic / audio synching to create the multicam clip.  When I view the clips in the Event browser, playback in the Viewer is fine and matches if I switch angles, etc.. The angle editor is also all good.  I then add the multicam clip to the Timeline to begin to make edits.  In the Timeline, even before I try to make any through edits, i.e. cutting to a different angle, the viewer is no longer in sync with what is shown in the angle editor, which is correct.  I even went back and removed all keywords (favorites) and analysis keywords (One Person, Medium Shot etc). in case they were causing the issue somehow.  I deleted the multicam clip, and re-created it, no problem.  But the viewer in the Timeline continues to be incorrect, though the angles are correct.  So playback and export show the wrong frames.  I should add that the audio is fine (which is from my primary clip), but the video (which is also from the same angle), continues to be incorrect.
Has anyone else encountered this or have an idea what would cause the playback in the Viewer to be out of sync when the multicam clip is just fine?

I've found the solution to this issue with Sastry's suggestion.
I had all the subreport section suppressed based on if the date value is null.
When i changed the subreport links to all parameters field and un suppress all the subreport sections, the data is displaying as it should be.

  • Bug in Premiere Pro CC Multicam?

So, I'm getting a bad issue in one of my multicam sections. I'm running Creative Cloud applications on Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
I have 5 or 6 seperate multicam sequences and the issue occurs on only one of them, which makes me think this must be a glitch. What happens is I cut the sequence and choose my angles. However, whenever I render or restart the project or send to Media Encoder, I get something that is hard to describe. It seems that for some of the angles, it switches to the start of the clip (where I marked an In point). From the screen cap below, it seems to put these arrow to indicate that the clips that are starting from the In point of the multicam sequence and not the point in time where I switched angels. I have fixed 3 times and still no success. Well, it actually seems like it is working, but then I try to encode and Media Encoder does the same thing. Very strange.
Has this occurance happened to anyone else? Is there a workaround?

Ok, I think I figured out a workaround. I haven't had to use it yet, but I think it will work.
    1) Make a sequence where you place all clips on the timeline lined up (I mark In points to sync). So Cam A (or 1)  is on the bottom and the Cam D (or 4 or whatever your last camera) is on top.
    2) In the Project window, select the clips and "create multicamera source sequence" and sync by In points.
    3) Drop the multicam sequence in a new blank sequence.
    4) Go back to original timeline and put the timecode filter on the top clip and make the "Timecode Source" to pull from "Media".
    5) Go to the sequence with your multicam in and drop the timecode filter on that, but this time, set the "Timecode Source" to generate and enter the starting timecode that you generated in step 4.
    6) Duplicate the multicam layer and unable the one you won't switch angles on. Make sure to cut both video tracks if you're cutting for content.
So, if Premiere decides to go whacky on your multicam footage, you can at least replace the multicam sequence by:
    1) Enabling the clip with timecode.
    2) Going back to the original sequence and copying the individual source clips.
    3) Drop them above the multicam sequence with cuts and the unabled multicam sequence for timecode.
    4) Use the multicam text to replicate the cuts and angles.
This is really, really, really time consuming, but at least it's better than telling your Producer that there is a delay on the project until Adobe fixes their software.
What do you think? Does this workaround make sense?
    Or, Plan B: Use Avid.
    Thanks,
    Tom
