Bug in Music-Library on Artist Name ?

Hi,
i am using the latest Version of iTunes (10.2.2.14) and using German as language.
There seems to be a problem with sorting by Artists:
Example:
Artist "Die Fantastischen Vier" is sorted under 'F' since it looks like iTunes removes 'Die' for sorting (same as in englisch with 'The').
That is ok so far, but if I import a new song with this Artist, i find it under 'D' !
So I have two Artists now, all the old Songs under 'F', all the new Songs under 'D'
Has anyone got any idea how to handle this bug ?

Connect your device to your computer.
On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under "Devices".  Then on right Pane, click the "Music" Tab, make sure "SYNC MUSIC" tab is checked.  Click the SYNC button on the lower right Window.

  • Can't update the info for my music (e.g., artist names, ratings) on iTunes anymore.

I used to be able to update the info for my music (e.g., artist names, ratings) via iTunes, but it doesn't work anymore. In the past I'd change it in the music tab underneath my phone's tab. Using one band as an example, it's all spelled exactly the same on my computer in both music tabs (under my phone and on my computer), but it has various spellings still on my phone. Also, when I rate a song on my phone, it no longer shows when I plug into iTunes. I rate songs 1 star if I want to delete them later but it just doesn't work anymore. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance.

I agree that it should work. But for some reason it does not.

However, I don't understand why you want to keep songs with incorrect info and then correct them on the phone every time you add them to the phone. Most people would want to do it one time.

  • Organizing Music Library by Artist by Song (Not by CD)

Is there a way to organize your music library by Artist then by song alphabetically without creating a playlist? I know you can orgainze your whole library by song alphabetically and also organize by artist and then by CD/album alphabetically but I want by artist by song alphabetically.

Hi there. What I've found useful in this instance is going into Get Info for either a specific song or for the album and deciding how I wanted the album or specific artists to be categorized.
iTunes is very literal and drills down to capture the minutae of information embedded in a song track instead of skimming from the top.
When it comes to compilations, I highlight the entire album and then when at the Get Info window, uncheck the Compilation check box.
Then I think about how I want to categorize an album and either change the information in the Get Info window per song or wholesale, per album.
    I hope that helps

  • Bug: iTunes Music Library Not Showing Song Name Category

As the title says: the iTunes Music library does not the track/song name category.
I realized this after clicking "Auto Size All Columns" after a fresh install of iTunes. The track/song name disappears from the current view, and isn't an option when right-clicking the categories.

  • Nano7 changes my library's artist name

i edited the  artist info in my library  so that "john cougar"& "john cougar mellencamp" are all consistently titled "john mellencamp".
on my iphone, this works great.  there's just one artist entry for him (even though his albums have 3 different variations of his name).
however, my nano7 overrides my changes!!
on my nano, he has 3(!!!) different artist entries.   this is very frustrating when i want to shuffle through his entire catalog at once (and why artist name has to be made the same on all his LPs.)
my library is displaying "artist name" as i want it to.  so this must be a nano issue rather than a library one.
what setting do i need to change on the nano to correct this?

    i figured this out.
while i previously had changed "artist name" so that they would all be the exact same, you also must also change "album artist" to be consistent too.
fyi, this is a great webpage to help with this sort of thing.

  • "Get Info" Issues when updating music without prefilled artist name, album name, etc

Hi there, trying to change track information such as artist, album name etc...when i do this, it allows me to change it on the get info tab, but then when i save it, it doesn't actually save and reverts back to no info and then in itunes, i cant sort by artist. it only has the track names way at the bottom with the track numbers and they are all mixed up with other like tracks...also, when i add a complete album, i cant actually change individual tracks at all under the get info tab. i have to select all of those tracks on that album under the recently added tab and then attempt to change them. when i do the individual tracks, it is not changeable at all. please help!

  • Orginizing your library by arist name.

Im trying to organize my library by artist name. When I do the the names that start with numbers (ex. 50 Cent, 2Pac, Etc) our on the bottom. When I put them on the top the Z's come after. Is there any way where i can put these names that begin with numbers before the names that start with A's. Thanks in advance for the help.

That's all part and parcel of the new sorting rules that have been introduced in recent versions of iTunes.
To workaround it, you will have to make use of the also recently introduced Sorting tab that is described at the bottom of the above-referenced article.
You can get an entry to the top of the list by prefixing it with aaaaa in the appropriate Sort field.
Information you enter in the Sort fields will not change what is displayed for those items, only how it is sorted.

  • Auto Synch with music library?

    Three questions actually:
1)I have single directory containing all my songs: D:\Matt\My Documents\My Music. I've told iTunes this under iTunes Music Folder Location and it appears correctly there. BUT a secon persond also uses the PC and has their own music library under their name.
iTunes has included songs from this other directory and I don't know how or why - any suggestions?
    2) I'm always adding/removing re-tagging songs in this directory. How do I get iTunes to simply synch with whatver is there and ditch anything that's been removed?
    3) The dirctory had 10,000+ songs but iTunes only shows around 8,000 - any ideas why? ALL files are .mp3.
    Hoping someone can help

I'm guessing these both have the same answer. It sounds as though you are doing things with your music files outside of iTunes, such as adding or removing files and retagging them. iTunes has no folder watching function. If you add files to the directly and not to iTunes, it won't know they're there. If you changes tags using another program, iTunes may not see the changes. You can often force it to but selecting the track on which you made a change, selecting Get Info and then pressing the ok button in the resulting editing window. Seems easier to me to just change the tags in iTunes.
If you're doing all your file manipulation through iTunes, then you may need to dig a little deeper to find the problem.
    Best of luck.

  • How do I sort music in the iTunes library by Genre followed by Year instead of Artist Name?

I am currently using the iTunes Library to organize my music. I find that the library by default arranges music into folders by Artist Name. Is there any way to first make it arrange the music by Genre and then by Year instead of Artist Name within the folders? Since I have music in different languages and use this music in other music software as well, sorting by Genre will be extremely helpful. I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks in Advance!

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.
If I missed your intent and need, let me know where I went wrong.
    Good luck,

  • HT2470 Why won't Itunes store my music library in my User/Music Folder, if I select my user name as a storage location in Itunes, Itunes creates folders for artist name right in my user folder, instead of in my user/music folder

Why won't Itunes store my music library in my User/Music Folder?
If I select my user name as a storage location in Itunes, Itunes creates folders for artist name right in my user folder, instead of in my user/music folder.  This gets especially annoying because if I tell Itunes to store my "media" in my user/music folder, Itunes will then create a folder named "music" in my "music" folder and will also create additional folders in my user/music folder location to store other non-music media in as well. It is very annoying to see this lack of affinity for folders between two Apple created programs.

  • I just started up with my IPod, I download music to my library and I accidently changed the artists name in an entire category.  I can't figure out how to undo it. I read the edit help stuff but I can't select the item I need to edit

I just started using my IPod and I downloaded my library.  I accidently changed the artist names for an entire genre category and I can't undo it.  I read all the edit help stuff and I either can't select items to edit or I'm an idiot and I can't figure it out.  I keep trying and I get a pop up that asks me if I want to change multiple items.

Did you ever resolve the iCloud problem.I am in the same position and its driving me mad!!! If you have a link to an solution I would appreciate it.

  • I just highlighted and changed the artist name of about a hundred songs in my library.  This was an accident and I want to change them back. I can't "undo" or search for artists' names online. Any way to fix this? They are still highlighted.

These were all songs I had ripped from old CDs, lot of which, I no longer have. I can't remember that artists' names for all these songs.  They are all "oldies" from the fifties and I just accidentally changed the artist for all them to Fats Domino. I'd had them all highlighted because I had done a batch change of their genre to Oldies. I couldn't tell that they were all still highlighted after that change because I could only see two of the songs at the time that I changed the artist name.  Is there any possible way to undo this?  All the tracks are still highlighted from the naming operation. I can't search for the artists' names online because I didn't purchase them from iTunes.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I found one other way to do it.  I just deleted them all out of my iTunes library. Now I can re-import them from Window's My Music file with the original artists' names intact.
    Thanks for your help, Matt!

  • Music Artists' names appear as lowercase on my phone, but uppercase in iTunes?

    Hi,
So I have quite a few artists whose albums I've decided to put on my iPhone 5S and for some reason their names are showing up as all lowercase. At first I thought the ID3 tags weren't correct, but after using two ID3 tag editors (alongside the iTunes "get info" screen), I found that the tags weren't the issue. I also thought it might've been the actual phone itself; perhaps the software was corrupt, but I actually had to get my phone replaced today because the screen was lifting and after syncing to my library at home and looking at my Music app and seeing the artist field still reading as all lowercase, I figured it wasn't my phone. So what could it be? It's really strange seeing some artists cased correctly like "Grace Jones" and "Sam Smith", while also seeing others cased incorrectly like "prince" and "fka twigs".
Please help me figure out what is wrong with these artist fields. I have tried the following to no avail: restarting my computer, updating iTunes, deleting iTunes plist files, reinstalling iTunes, deleting and reading songs into iTunes, editing ID3 tags, changing the artists' name to something else and then back to the correct name, restarting my iPhone, and hard resetting my iPhone.
To clarify, the artists' names all read in correct case on iTunes, and only read in all lowercase on my iPhone.
    Thanks in advance!

  • My Itunes library is messed up. Wong titles. Wrong albums. Wrong everything. EX. I play a song by avenged sevenfold but then it plays a song by eminem. Song titles dont match what they play and neither does the artists name

My Itunes library is messed up. Wong titles. Wrong albums. Wrong everything. EX. I play a song by avenged sevenfold but then it plays a song by eminem. Song titles dont match what they play and neither does the artists name. Can I restart everything from itunes? I know this sounds cunfunsing, (and it is) but yeah.
Once again to try and clarify, The song(which itunes says is by artist, band, person, etc) is mixed up with another song out of my libary.
If there's something you dont get ask me!!! thanks

I'm experiencing the same issue. Not only do I get a messed up library, but since I've let iTunes handle my music files, they too have been shuffled around - placed in different album folders and sometimes given names of other songs... With quite a large library, the cleanup makes me feel a bit like Sisyfos pushing the rock uphill - it's a never ending story. Only positive side of this is that I get to play a lot of music quizzes while guessing who plays the song that is disguised as eg. Buddy from De La Soul, and then afterwards try to track down the real 'Buddy' as this has also found another folder to hide in...
Shazam has come to the rescue a few times so far...
