Bug in newest version of iTunes: last played data not updating after songs are played
I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes on my Mac. The "last played" data is not updating automatically after a song has finished playing (even after waiting for a while). Sometimes in the older versions it would take 5-10 second for the data to update automatically, but even after several minutes, "last played" still shows as if the song had not just been played.

I bet the Last Played was updated after you stopped playing the tracks...IN FACT. if you were watching your shuffle icon, you might have noticed the rotating thingy to the left of the eject symbol, meaning an update was ongoing.
This will happen AS LONG AS the track has "remember playback position" set.

I transfered my I tunes library to my new laptop using a thumb drive. I downloaded the newest version of Itunes to my new computer. My old ITUNES library of songs and books came across just fine. I can play them on the new laptop but they won't sync with my Ipod. The Itunes shows no devices when I hook it up to the laptop. Windows recognizes that the IPOD is hooked up. But no connection with ITUNES. Did I make a mistake in trying to sync my Itunes purchases to the new laptop before transfering the old library into the new ITUNES. If so how do I undo the problem. I am unable to update the newest version of itunes because I need to update my Mac OS X to version 10.6 or later but my computer keeps telling me that I do not have any updates available. I am currently running version 10.5.8
You need to buy 10.6 on DVD.

Just updated to the newest version of iTunes, when connecting it prompts me to update my iPhone to the newest version of IOS; however, when I hit download it says I have purchases that need to sync but where and how do I do this on the newest version? It isn't doing it automatically and I am unable to find the sync button that was available on previous versions of iTunes. I would hate to think that I'm going to lose the many purchases that I've made, someone please help!

I've already tried removing Quicktime from my computer and reinstalling it and that worked once but after I shut down my computer and turned it back on iTunes would not work again and trying to repair the Quicktime program did not work.
Alright, for this, try the following:
1. Follow all steps located here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698 (be sure to grab all leftover files in Program Files and system32).
2. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301).
3. Opens the utility, remove anything for Apple, iPod, iTunes, or Quicktime.
4. Re-download and install iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
If the same error appears after that, do steps 1-3 again, but then go to Start>Search, choose to search for 'All Files and Folders', and search for Quicktime. Delete everything that comes up (except if you see any Java files, as those don't delete properly). Also, if you come across any files that don't say 'Delete', skip them, and if you get an error when deleting a file, skip it as well. Try reinstalling again. -

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music or dlete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

Hey guys,
My dad just got a new laptop that should be beyond capable of running iTunes. He installed it, tried to run it and it wouldn't open. I uninstalled it, re-downloaded it and tried to run it and it's a no go for me as well. Tried to run a repair and nothing. Tried to open it in safe mode and nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what might be gumming it up? His computer has a 1.5 gig Quad core, 4 Gig of Ram, is running on 64bit Windows 7 that is fully updated as of this morning and iTunes is doing jack squat Please help!FYI the sloution which are mentioned above are copied from below link and I just pasted the Information which were required. Tried to sync iPad to new PC; got message that iPad did not have most current iTunes and would I like to update; selected update; got an error message saying a file was corrupt; iPad stuck in restore mode; no pictures transferred to PC; Apple Store Tech said only solution is to restore factory settings to my iPad but this will cause me to lose hundreds of precious and irreplaceable photos and videos; HELP?
You should be able to accept this message, it will cause existing music, photos (not camera roll) and videos (also excluding those in camera roll) to be removed and replaced with those from this computer. All other user data on the iPad will be unaffected.

HT1923 Trouble with newest version of iTunes not updating properly
I tried updating to the newest version of iTunes because I received the Apple Software Update for it. It wouldn't install properly, so I manually installed the newest version. When I tried to open iTunes I received an error message: "APSDaemon.exe - System Error; MSVCR80.dll not found, try reinstalling the software". So I clicked okay and received an error message the iTunes was not installed properly, try reinstalling. Then I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, but received the same error messages about 2/3 of the way through reinstalling. Now iTunes won't install at all. I went to the support page and got the instructions for removing and reinstalling iTunes on Windows 7, but I can't finish the removing steps because Apple Mobile Device Support will not uninstall at all. My husband is having the same issue on his computer. Is this a known issue with the new version of iTunes for windows? How do we fix it now? We really need iTunes on the computers to sync with our phones, iPod, and iPad. Any help would be appreciated...should I contact apple support directly?
Update - I was able to finally uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support component and the rest of the components. I was not able to delete the common files/Apple folder when checking to make sure all the components were removed; however, I think that is because I have an Apple AirPort WiFi Device. Anyway, the newest version of iTunes did install on my computer after following these instructions. So I believe my issue is resolved. We will see...

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I have a windows 8 computer and I installed the newest version of itunes because I used to have an ipod and I have a few purchases that I wanted to listen to. When I try to play them it says it's playing but I can't hear anything. It does not even says it's played the whole way. It just stays at the beginning. It won't let me pause. I checked my computer sound and there is nothing wrong with it. So there must be some software problem but idk what it is. If anyone can help I would appreciated. Thank-you

It sounds like there is an issue burning CD's in iTunes. Is the playback issue only occurring on a specific device and does the disc show up correctly in iTunes? Updated to newest version of itunes and now it tries to update library and it stops responding and won't let me cancel the little update bar that appears. I just want to know how to get it to the point where I can play music again.

I was able to drag and drop songs from iTunes in to Garage Band so I could slow them down to learn how to play them. Since the newest version of iTunes came out I no longer can. Is this a feature that I can turn back on? I really would like to continue to utlize that feature because it makes learning to play songs easier. Any help would be appericated.
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.
