Bug in Portal308 HLW Tutorial

When you try to install the latest portal tutorial the import of hlw30_trl_sso.dmp fails with a "column not found" because the portal30_sso.wwutl_sso_transport_table$ and wwutl_sso_tx_person$ tables are missing the SUBSCRIBER_ID column. I altered these tables and added the new column but this causes several packages to go invalid:
portal30.wwsbr_imt_services
portal30_sso.wwutl_api_ssotransport
portal30_sso.wwutl_new
only the portal30_sso.wwutl_new package can be compiled but the other two must be modified. The problem is though that these packages are wrapped and Oracle doesn't ship the source code.
So if anyone knows how to get a hold of Darren McBurney or Vanessa Wang both of Oracle and notify them of the problem please do so - thanks

We're using the latest version of 9iAS/Portal 3.0.8. but apparently the subscriber_id column was added to the portal30_sso tables after this release and that is what ya'll are developing against. Is there a patch to fix the sso tables or do we have to wait for 3.0.9 for a fix.

Is there a bug in the WebService tutorial for JDeveloper 9i?

In reading through the JDeveloper 9i tutorial for building a web service, the final step generates the DateTimeServiceStub.java, but the testing that follows does not use this class, it uses the DateTimeService class.
I built a Web Service based on the this tutorial and when I test with "MyClass.java" it works fine, but when I try to use "MyClassStub.java" it throws the ClassNotFound Exception below:

BUG!: JDeveloper 11g Tutorial code is incomplete.

I am attempting the complete the JDeveloper 11g Tutorial from the Fusion Developer's Guide for Oracle Application Development Framework
After adding all the latest jars available from the ADF Installer to the StoreFrontModule I am left with 10 errors all of with seem to be the result of missing methods (especially findByAltKey) from both Oracle packages and the tutorials code itself. Is it a bug in Sun's Tutorial example!!!!

Hello everybody! I donno whether the following Tutorial example code is buggy or not but it won't run under j2sdk 1.4.2 and also under 1.5 as smoothly as Tutorial says(only the 1st line prints but not all). You can find the code:

The author made a "bonehead" error - s/he hardcoded a newline character ('\n') when writing the invoice1.txt file. Since this is a UNIX/Linux character, it will not cause an error when run there - BUT - when run on an OS that doesn't use that convention - Windows, etc - it results in an incorrectly written file.
This illustrates a code portability problem; don't hardcode!
I leave as an exercise for the reader the correction of the format of the total dollar amount.

* The timer is started using creditCardReportTimer.start(). But it is never stopped.
* context_onException() calls callback.onCreditReportDone(). One problem is the
Java client do not accept call back. So the onCreditReportDone() call result in
another exception. context_onException() is invoke again. This causes an infinite
loop and eventual crashed the WLS.
Step 8: Client Application
* The Java statement
if(context.getCallbackLocation() != "")
is not a correct way to test for empty string. Use String.length().

You had mentioned that the timer was started but never stopped, the
following is a snippet from the Investigate.jws available in the
applications/samples/tutorial folder.

I'm trying to make a Bug Database

Hi there,
I am trying to make my own bug database app using Objective-C(I will try and work out the Core Data part later - sticking to the code now).
So here goes.
I have created the code to add a column;

That works. But I have two questions;
1. How do I clear the table of all columns on startup?
2. How do I add contents to the table! I don't have a data source, I just want to add things when in the application.

P.S - I can't understand why there is a formatting issue in that code.

The tutorial is based on having a list of "VersionReleases"... and each VersionRelease can potentially have many CommitMessages... so the interface has the two table views. One table view shows you the list of all the VersionReleases and then when you've selected one of the VersionReleases the second table view shows you a list of all the CommitMessages associated with the selected VersionRelease. In addition, each CommitMessage has several pieces of data associated with it (the message, creationDate, and isCommitted attributes). And when you select one of the "CommitMessages" from the second table view then it's data items display in the remaining fields.
But based on your screen shot it appears that you want to create a list of Bugs to track... each individual bug item will have one notes field, one date founded and one platform (and also one bug name). But there doesn't appear to be a list of several items associated with each bug (like in the tutorial where there's a list of CommitMessages associated with each VersionRelease). So there doesn't appear to be any reason to split the information related to a single bug report into two different entities.
So (assuming I'm understanding your screen shot correctly) in essence you don't need the "VersionRelease" entity. Your interface looks like it could be handled with one entity similar to the "CommitMessage" entity from the tutorial. Sort of like you removed the "VersionMessage' table view from the left side of the tutorial window and then moved the "CommitMessage" table view from the top right of the window and instead placed it along the left side of the window where the first table view used to be... that gives you essentially what your screen shot displays and eliminates the need for the two entities.
Your "BugEntry" entity could contain a name, notes, date and platform. The table view on the left of your window would display a list of all the bug names (like the "CommitMessage" table view displays a list of commit messages in the tutorial), then depending on which one was selected the remaining fields would display the notes, date and platform of the selected bug.

Broken links to database stored gif's

I installed 9i AS 1.0.2 for NT and immediately after that the hlw-tutorial files. Now some (not all) links are broken, e.g. in the hlw navigation bar the link to the "home" (http://servername/pls/portal30/docs/249.gif). The file 249.gif is stored in wwdoc_document$ with a pathid of 209. As I didn't find an appropriate table in user_tab_columns resolving the pathid: does anyone know where this pathid is resolved or - even better - what the cause of that error is?

I have the same problem. Without any known reasons the links to many items are broken. These are not only gif-images but all items which are created or linked in a content area. When i click on such a broken link-item the following error-message appears:

Where does one sync iPhone with the new iTunes? The button to get to iPhone disappears after a few seconds.

I downloaded the new iTunes tonight (11/30/12) and it is significantly different but there is a problem with the icon for finding the iPhone in order to sync. They have either made this significantly harder or there is a bug. The video tutorial was no help on this point. Thanks.

Start game with space bar

My project is almost complete except for this last little thing that's been bugging me. A tutorial I followed had you start the game by clicking a button but I would like to change that to pressing the spacebar starts the game. I tried:

ADF 11 - Oracle Developer Day 28.05.2009 Online Tutorial Problem/Bug

I've completed the tutorial and discovered what would seem to be a bug.
I've reproduced the problem in a new simpler application.
Its a bit long but here we go.
The situation is :
Two panel splitters one inside the other, one vertical split and one horizontal split dividing the screen into a 3 parts, a left column and a right column split into a top and a bottom.
ADF BC have been created using the Departmetns and Employees tables from the HR schema.
In the left column there is an adf read only form bound to Departments with navigation controls.
On the right at the top there is a read only table (with row selection) bound to the Employees view in the Departments view (master-detail)
On the right at the bottom there is a form bound to the Employees view in the Departments view (master-detail)
Using the left column read only form I navigate to Department 50 which has employees 120 to 199.
The Employees af:Table shows employees 120 to 191 without scrolling.
Using the scroll bar on the employee table I scroll to the bottom of the employees table (now employees 128 to 199 are showing)
I then select on employee 198
The form at the bottom right correctly positions on employee 198 however the employee table re-positions on employee 190 !
Using the scroll bar I scroll to the bottom of the employees table (now employees 128 to 199 are showing)
Employee 198 is selected.
I select employee 199
The form at the bottom right correctly positions on employee 199 however the employee table re-positions on employee 191 !
I repeat the same process but selection employee 193
The form at the bottom right correctly positions on employee 193 however the employee table re-positions on employee 185 !
It would seem that the employee table scrolls up the exact number of rows that need to be scrolled down in order to show the last table row.
Added to that when the tabel re-positions it would seem to be re-fetching its data...
Can anybody explain what's going on or confirm the above observations?

there is an attribute "displayRow" on the table to set what should be shown after refreshing the table. Set this to "selected"

BookDBAO bug in JavaEE tutorial bookstore1

In the JavaEE tutorial example bookstore1, BookDBAO is a java bean stored in context scope and used by all threads. In BookDBAO, the not thread-safe EntityManager em is used by all threads to db actions. I think this is a bug since EntityManager is not thread-safe.

invalid target release: 1.6seems like the version of Java you have installed is too old. Install the latest Java 6 JDK and make sure that its bin directory is the one added to the PATH system variable, plus is the one set in the JAVA_HOME variable.
That is basic Java stuff by the way: I hope you are familiar with Java (not only the language, but also the tools!) itself before you try to dive into Java EE development. If not, you'll probably end up being very confused and frustrated.

JasperReports Tutorial: Missing Record Bug

A few customers have pointed out a bug in the Generating Reports and PDFs From a Web Application tutorial at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/reports.html. I have to admit that I am somewhat embarrased that I never noticed that the first record is missing from the reports.
I am trying to get the fix pushed out this week. In the meantime, for those who are using code from the tutorial, you should know that you need to either call beforeFirst() or execute() on the rowset before passing the rowset to the JRResultSetDataSource constructor.

E71 : Tutorial bug

Just started investigating new E71, and seems there is a bug in the Tutorial app. (Menu>Help>Tutorial) : Several topics cause the app. to end (crash) without showing info. e.g. Keys>Power key. Perhaps there are missing topics, because I also notice that where one of these "crash" topics appears in the middle of a list, lower topics actually launch the topic above them in the list e.g. anything below Calling>Dialled numbers.
Am I the only one suffering this? Seems relatively trivial, but then does not inspire confidence : if a simple app. like Tutorial is bad, what chance complex stuff being good?

I noticed that too. On my E63 tough, it works fine. These tuts are a bit silly. The manual is better documented and even then there are settings I can't find. The connections and buttons on the side are not described in the Dutch version.
