Bug in print module in LR2.

Doing a little more testing on the print profile problem.
MacPro 10.5.4 iPF9000 Canon driver 1.30
What I found out is that when going to Print Setup under Color Matching I can choose Vendor Matching and then I can choose CM off in the Driver. If I then hit Print One the print is correct.
If I go to Print under Color Matching I cannot choose Vendor Matching. Both selections are grayed out and Colorsync is shown as checked. Of course I cannot choose CM Off this way. After I have once gone into the Print and then go back to Print Setup I can no longer choose Vendor Matching and have the same grayed out dialog under Color Matching. And off course the print is not correct this way with the double profiling that is going along.
I am providing this information if anybody cares or knows enough about CM here to know what I am talking about. After 20 years of doing color printing I think I know what I am talking about. So, if you don't care to hear this information, so be it.

I also have noticed is that when you choose Print One and then go back to Print Settings the Color Matching choice option are grayed out and ColorSync is the default.
After working with many other software producers (a lot of it beta testing) it is really frustrating dealing with the denial and stonewalling that goes on at Adobe. This was pointed out to them when LR 2 was still in beta. (Maybe it still is)
Interesting that this default Color Matching selection is in PS, but in PS it defaults to vendor matching with CM off as the option.

  • Bug in Print Module, LR3.6, custom package

    Hi everybody,
    After two days of unequal fight with Print Module bug I hope I finally pinned it down.
    Hope it saves someone time
    I have my photos usually cropped in DSLR format (2:3)
    Printing I use often two popular formats 13x18cm and 15x21cm that are close to 5:7 (first one is 5x7in)
    Initially I was using virtual copies and had them cropped to 5:7 format.
    However this makes a little mess in my workflow and it's time consuming.
    What I found was Custom Package in Print Module.
    Having cell with target size I drag desired photo into the cell and using cmd-key drag this foto to have proper look as the width target format is smaller. So far so good, but ...
    From time to time printed photo looked totally different from what I saw on-screen.
    First of all there are couple threads about that problem. I visited them but they remain unanswered

    There are visual samples there of what happens.
    Photos in JPG file that was created from LR look differently than in LR. Photos in file are bigger or/and wrong positioned within the cell
    What I managed to find is:
    Everything goes fine until photo is rotated by 'Rotate to Fit' function. It happens in my case only with photos that have the same orientation that template.
    Example:
    Template is set on A4 borderless format set to portait (Page Setup... button).
    Two cells 14,85cm height x 21cm width (A5 format). First one over second and both in landcape position.
    When I drag photo cropped in Landscape orientation such a photo is rendered properly.
    When I drag photo cropped in Portrait orientation it's atutomatically rotated 90 degrees (couterclockwise) by "Rotate to Fit option" and that is when **** happens.
    Final print (to file or printer) shows that user dragging is omitted in render. What's more if "Photo border" is set to on, photo in this cell is not reduced. Instead of this (as far as I can see) photo border just crop some part of picture.
    If I switch orientation of the A4 page from portrait to lansdcape, magically photos that are cropped in portrait orientation start to render good (they are not rotated now) while those in landscape start to render wrong.
    This looks 99% as software bug.
    I'm using LR3.6 on mac osx 10.6.8
    I'd like someone to follow it and to check if the same happens on different Mac or Windows.
    Cheers
    Robert

    Confirmed in LR 5.3, OS X 10.9.1.
    Screen display is fine, user repositioning is ignored when printing if page is in landscape mode and the image is rotated 90° (Rotate to Fit on). A4, Epson printer. Bug also appears in PDFs generated via the "Printer…" button. I didn't check JPEG export.

  • Minor bug in Print module (numbering of Contact Sheet pages)

    I have selected one image from the Library or the film strip, went to the Print module and selected "5x8 Contact Sheet" from the Template Browser. On the top/left corner, it states "Page 1 of 2", while obviously there is one page only. Adding more pictures to fill in multiple pages, and moving from one page to another, the indication on top/left is recurrently wrong, e.g. indicating Page 2 of 2 when I am on 1 of 2. Numbering in the lower right rectangle is correct, instead.

    Lightroom automatically wraps text under the thumbnail in contact sheets. The Text Template Editor does not allow you to enter line breaks. So, if your Filename is long enough to fill the first line, the caption will start with the second. If not, you can tweak the template somehow so that it looks the way you want.

    Also it should be noted that selecting the cancel button in the Print Settings dialog brings about this behavior were it defaults to using colorsync and the Color Matching options are grayed out.
    Close and restart LR2 and then you can have the Color Matching option back so that you can select CM off in the printer driver. Just do not select Cancel.

    These issues (Dark prints, wrong profile handling, color shift, ...) are persisting since 1.3.x!!!!
    Only for some! I use LR1/2 for printing all the time, and its great. Near-perfect color matching, incredibly useful printer presets, great resizing, etc, etc. But I use V64 and Epson printers.
    Have you reported your particular problem to Adobe Support?

  • LR2 + Vista 64: Crash when opening the profile list in the Print module

    I apologize if this is has been reported/discussed before. I use LR2 on a Vista 64 machine. When I want to select a printer profile in the print module, LR crashes. The "preference list" of profiles is empty and I expect LR2 should open the list of all the profiles installed on the machine
    . I did not have this issues on the same machine with the beta version of LR2. Is this a known issue ? Is there a work-around ?
    Thanks,
    Franck

    I have solved the issue by uninstalling and then re-installing all the ICC profiles at the OS level. I am not quite sure why but it did the job. Interestingly, the beta version of LR2 that was still installed never stopped working.

  • Text watermark opacity different in print module

    In the print module of both lr4.1 & lr3.6 I find that the print module changes the opacity of a text watermark (to less, by about 20-30%) than what it is in the library & develop modules.  Is this some kind of operator error or is it a bug (or feature? )in lr?  If operator error, how to fix?  OS for 3.6 is MacOSX 10.6.8 & for 4.1, 10.7.4.  Documentation pointer(s) are quite welcome.  Thanks

    I could see that being useful too.  As it may not make the final release, and we wouldn't want the request to get lost in beta land, might I suggest adding it as a suggestion on the Feature Request forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family where it can easily be tracked?  If you post the link to your request here, others can also vote on your request.  If you search there, you may even find similar requests that you might like to add your vote to.

  • Help me format text overlay in print module

    I would like to print my photos with Caption field on one line and Date field on the next line. I would also like to change the font to something else. This is easily done in the slideshow module, just make two text overlays, position them where desired, pick a font and all done. Is it possible to do in the print module though? It seems as though only one overlay can be done. This is fine if I can force a line break, but I cannot seem to figure that out. Ctrl-Enter fails to work as does putting in the html code for a line break. I also cannot figure out if it's possible to change the font of the text overlay in the print module. Is what I wish to do possible? If so, how do I accomplish it? Many thanks!
    Bonus points if it's possible to right justify and to bold the Caption field but leave the Date field in regular typeface.
    I've also attempted this with the Identity Plate; it has all the formatting options I need, but it does not appear as though metadata can be displayed there, am I wrong?

    Hopefully this will be improved drastically in the final release of version 2. In an earlier thread, I asked about printing that used to work in Lr 1.2 and stopped working in Lr 1.3. An Adobe engineer replied it was a known bug. I am also a pro photographer and love Lightroom. jc

  • Print Module templates layouts do not update on the fly

    Print layouts do not update on the fly when attempting to choose between various Print Module>Template Browser> Lightroom or User templates. This occurs in all three Layout Styles. The very first layout chosen in Single Image/Contact Sheet, Picture Package, or Custom Package is the permanent 'default' and cannot be changed. The Preview will show as expected however any image stays stuck in the very first layout I chose after installing LR4 beta.
    For example, I first chose Template Browser>Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size, and Layout Style>Single Image/Contact Sheet. Clicking through any other Templates (Lightroom or User defined) will alter the preview but not the layout display in the Print window. Same problem in either of the other Layout styles. I have been trying for days to rectify this, but it seems somehow more difficult than LR3. and not what I expect.
    As a comparison, using the same steps in LR3 works perfectly as all print template/layouts can be changed on the fly as expected. I have no problems generating different layouts in LR3 and have been using LR print module since version 1 without this issue.
    Is this a bug or are there any extra steps or workarounds I have not discovered? Any other testers seen this?

    Update with more info. What am I doing wrong, if anything?
    Print layouts do not update on the fly when attempting to choose between various Print Module>Template Browser> Lightroom or User templates. This is not a hang since the layouts do not change after the initial choice no matter how much time elapsed.
    iMac OS 10.6.8. 8GB RAM.Processor Intel Core 2 Duo. NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS.
    The steps as follows:
    1) Lightroom 3.6 & LR4Beta exist side by side.
    2) LR4 Beta> Print Module;
    3) From filmstrip choose image;
    4) Template Browser> Lightroom4Beta Templates>Maximum Size;
    5) Preview displays as expected;
    6) Layout Styles>Single Image/Contact Sheets
    7) Template Browser> Lightroom4Beta Templates>click through any other templates (Lightroom or User defined);
    8) Image layout in main window does not update;
    9) Previews update;
    10) Layout Style>Picture Package;
    11) Template Browser>Maximum size is then automatically shown, however the template in the main window is actually (1) 7x5, (2) 2.5x3.5;
    12) Any further attempts to change the layouts regardless of Style Layout choices are not successful.
    13) Close LR4Beta>re-open LR4Beta;
    14) Repeat test;
    15) Print Module layouts do not update on the fly as expected;
    16) Close LR4Beta and all applications;
    17) Reboot iMac.
    18) Open LR4Beta only;
    19) LR4Beta>Print Module>Template Browser >Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size;
    20) Image displays in main layout window with Template and Preview display as expected;
    21) Choose different image>Template Browser>Lightroom Templates>Maximum Size;
    22) Click through templates, layouts DO NOT update in main window although previews do automatically update.
    23) CONCLUSION - In Lightroom 4 Beta>Print Module>Template Browser, image layouts do not change after initial choice as expected.
    I posted this on Photoshop.com as a problem.

  • How to Position Identity Plate Overlay in Print Module?

    When I print portraits, I want to include my name and date overlaying the portrait in the lower right hand corner. Currently I have to open the file in Photoshop and add this to the portrait. I saved the text information (name and date) in a transparent tiff and imported the into LR's print module identity plate. The problem is that the graphic is displayed in the middle of the portrait. Is there some way that the identity plate overlay can be positioned exactly where I want it (the lower right hand corner)?
    I recently did a portrait sitting for a large family reunion that involves seven different family portraits being printed in 4 different sizes. If I could position the identity plate exactly where I want, this would save me a lot of time instead of having to add this in PS.

    Hopefully this will be improved drastically in the final release of version 2. In an earlier thread, I asked about printing that used to work in Lr 1.2 and stopped working in Lr 1.3. An Adobe engineer replied it was a known bug. I am also a pro photographer and love Lightroom. jc

  • Color management: Adobe RGB 1998 issues in print module

    When printing to a JPEG file from the Print Module, I've noticed that the "Adobe RGB" profile differs substantially from the "Adobe RGB (1998)" profile supplied with Windows.
    When viewed with Photoshop, the "Adobe RGB" images are much more saturated than the image previews from the Lightroom window. Photoshop displays the same "Adobe RGB (1998)" profile for both files.
    I have tried to reinstall Lightroom, but this has not solved the problem.
    It seems that when selecting "Adobe RGB", Lightroom is in fact converting the image to sRGB, but embeds the "Adobe RGB (1998)" profile.
    ICC profile selection: http://julianchoquette.com/fichiers/forum/lightroom-color-a.png
    This will output files that look like the previews in Lightroom: http://julianchoquette.com/fichiers/forum/lightroom-color-b.png
    Profile selection pop-up: http://julianchoquette.com/fichiers/forum/lightroom-color-c.png

    Yeah that is completely different. My guess is that this is the bug I mentioned before. It should not happen but clearly does. It works normally on my system (I just tried again).
    >Note that both dialogs do not display exactly the same name for the Lightroom provided Adobe RGB profile. http://julianchoquette.com/fichiers/forum/lightroom-export-dialog.png
    That's normal and doesn't mean anything. On my computer it actually says "AdobeRGB" without the (1998) that yours shows but I believe that's simply a difference between the Mac and PC version. You can try whether it does the same thing if you select prophoto. But somebody with Vista x64 and LR 2.3 should try the same thing to see if this is a bug specific to the PC version of LR.

  • LR3 Print Module: printing to profile - unable to change Color Matching

    Hi
    I use LR3 in 32 bit mode (there is no 64bit driver for HP DesignJet 130n).
    I always print to profiles. In LR2 I had to make sure that in the PrintSettings the option Color Matching was set to "Vendor Machine", because although I saved this setting, LR never remembered.
    Now with LR3 the option is again set to"Color Sync" but this time it cannot be changed.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Bruno

    Bob,
    My problem is exactly what you say: you must find the appropriate place in the printer interface where you can disable all color management performed by the printer driver.
    In OS X (10.5.) I know only of two places where I can handle Color Management: "Print Settings" and "Profile" in the LR3 Print Module.
    By default LR3 sets the Print Settings "Color Matching" to "Vendor Machine" if I choose "Managed by the Printer" for the Profile.
    By default LR3 sets the Print Settings "Color Matching" to "ColorSync" if I choose a custom printer/paper profile.
    Where/what is "the appropriate place in the printer interface where you can disable all color management performed by the printer driver" ?

  • LR 4.3 Print Module + Dry Creek icc Profile = jpeg that Apple SW won't open

    Greetings,
    I have used Dry Creek Photo's (http://www.drycreekphoto.com/) Costo printer profiles successfully for some time with PS and they seem to work fine for soft proofing in LR4... but when I select one of those profiles in LR's Print module for export to jpeg[1] the jpegs produced cannot be opened with Preview, Color Sync, Safari, seemingly any Apple software in OS X (I've tried with both Snow Leopard and Lion).  The jpegs do open in PS and browsers like Chrome and Firefox.  If I open the files in PS and then save them with "Save As" the saved files open correctly in Preview, etc.  Also, other icc profiles (like Adobe or sRGB) seem to work fine.  I do not know if the printers at Costco can read the problematic jpegs or not.
    Can anyone expain what's happening here?  Am I doing something wrong?  Is this a LR or Apple bug?  Will the jpegs printed from LR's print module be usable on Costco's printers?  Will I have to "launder" everything through PS (which would I would obvioiusly rather not do)?
    Thanks!
    [1] Files printed at Costco need to be in the color space of the printer for Soft Proofing to work since unless it's changed recently Costco's printers ignore embedded profiles.  See, http://www.drycreekphoto.com/icc/using_printer_profiles.htm

    This file (it's just a screenshot of this browser window "Printed" from LR4) is an example of one that will produce the problem described in my OP: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36072/Misc.%20Forums/test1.jpg
    It was produced with Lightroom 4.3 on OS X 10.6.8.  It is using this (http://www.drycreekphoto.com/icc/Profiles/IccFiles/Florida/Costco-FL-Lantana-Gls.icc) icc profile (picked at random to maintain my anonyminity). Trying to open that image with any Apple application on either OS X 10.6 or 10.7 fails for me.  I can successfully open the file in PS, Chrome and Firefox in both 10.6 and 10.7 without issues.  On OS X 10.7 I get the following dialog when trying to open it with Preview:
    Doing "Get Info" on the file results yields this:

  • Save As function not available in the Print Module

    Out of nowhere, the 'Save As' function isn't available in the Print Module.  I have updated to 4.4, restarted Lightroom, etc.  I can still export the images, just not save as a jpg.  Can you help?

    kwhitworth7,
    There never was a <Save As> function in Lr, not in the Print Module and not anywhere else. Not in Lr1, Lr2, Lr3 or Lr4.
    Lr does not do <Save As>. Lr works with a database, called the catalog, and every step done in Lr is automatically and instantly saved in the catalog. There is no need for a <Save As> - there is not even the possibility of a <Save As>.
    <Save As> means that you save the image file itself (under a new name). Lr does not save anything in the image file (except xmp data and you cannot save the xmp under a new name). This is simply not possible.
    What is possible - as the previous posters have pointed out - that you create a <Saved Print> in the Print Module. This saves the print in the catalog and adds it to a Collection.
    It is also possible that you save your print as a JPG. To do this select <JPEG File> in the <Print Module / Print Job panel (right side) / Print To> (you have to click on the small double-triangle, see screen shot:
    Then click on <Print to File ...>. You then get a dialog box (which is part of your OS) where you select a location for the JPG-file and indeed you have to give this file a name.
    And, yes, that is a "save-function".
    Are you saying that when you click on <Print to File ...> nothing happens?

  • More text options in Print Module

    It's frustrating to be able to do just about everything in LR - but not quite.  I'd like more text options for the printing module.  For example, when I'm printing a limited edition print, I put the edition number in the bottom left corner, under the image, within the border of the print.  The title goes in the middle, slighty larger font, and then possibly a watermark.
    I can use the Identity Plate to create a nice looking title, but the Photo Info will only print in the middle with no options for positioning it anywhere else, or no options for other fonts.

    I would second this proposal..... with a serious passion.  I think it is unbelievable that Adobe will not provide us with the option to print the metadata with our images.
    The current metadata print options are in the dark ages, a joke and an insult to anyone trying to put a proper caption on a printed image.  For example, one cannot currently control the postion or font of a basic caption, never mind a considered template which might incorporate copyright, date, author, etc..   I also make folios (ala Lenswork).  Unfortunately, a detour to PS also means that this must be done manually, rather than using a template.  Adobe have all the tools to make this work, many of them are in the Slideshow module, so already the code is inside Lightroom.   It is so sad that a company like Blurb can provide these tools free of charge in free software, but Adobe seem incapable of providing these basic features.  I was disappointed they were not in version 1, frustrated when missing from version 2 and  apoplectic when not in version 3. I might excuse the omission if I could build a template in PS which allowed me to place text from the metadata into a formattted page layout, but this is not possible either. So despite the fact I have purchased both Lightroom and Photoshop, and paid for upgrade after upgrade of both products, this basic facility is still missing.
    I can only deduce that people in Adobe print images in two modes.
    1) a lonely image in approx middle of the page with no text formatting or
    2) an image in draft mode with a caption and a name plate and uncontolled other text in ad hoc placements (totally unsuitable for presenting to a client).
    I would put this requirement ahead of so many other popular requests (even ahead of requests such as networked storage, soft proofing, etc).  I can mention other software products who do a really good job of printing meta data with images, do serious work on sharpening, etc. for a fraction of the cost of the Lightroom / Photoshop combination. Becasue I am on an Adobe site I will not mention the names of these non Adobe products. If these small companies can solve this problem, surely Adobe can do so as well.
    I also find that I cannot trust the page setup templates that I do create. It seems to me that many of the properties (ie page size, orientation, matt / gloss options) disappear without warning.  I suspect this happens when I have problems printing to networked Epson printers (maybe others, but I only use Epson ...with Windows 7.)  This is very frustrating when my template changes from Matt in to Gloss, with subsequent wasted of ink and frustration and lost time in correcting and re-updating the template.
    Adobe, please finish the Print Module.  I do not want any more glitzy updates to publishing to the most recent social media exchange medium. Can we not get basic printing working first.
    (..... thanks for listening.....end of rant).

  • How can I use the print module to print different size images on one large "canvas"?

    How can I use the print module to print different size images on one large "canvas"? An example would be in Photoshop, go to file>new, and create the size paper I want, and move images of different sizes onto it.
    I was thinking the print module would do this automatically for me.

    You can't, at present. It's been a requested feature, so we'll see if it shows up in a future version, but it's not there at present.
