Bug in PSE8?

I believe I may have identified a bug in PSE8 editor associated with the panorama photomerge function.
What is the procedure to report my findings to Adobe?

Thank you John, it is the same.
I have used a very early version of PSE as well as PS7, and am finding my way around a recently installed version of PSE8.
The error message occurs for me after several photos have been edited, and a new panorama stitch is attempted.  If the program is launched without any previous edits having been done, there is no error message.
The bug having been identified, do you know if Corel is planning to apply a fix instead of providing a workaround?

  • Another PSE 8 Changing Date Problem

    I'm a long-time PSE5 user who has just downloaded the PSE8 trial.
Whenever, I select a photo in the organizer and then go into either full or quick edit, the file properties' date created and date modified are changed to the current date - even if I have not edited or resaved the file. Moreover, if the date of the "unedited" photo had previously been set as unknown ("????"), the date that appears in the organizer is changed to this "revised" (i.e., current) date created/modified.
I can't seem to find a preference that would cause this unwanted change.  Is this a (critical) bug in PSE8 or is there a way of avoiding the problem?

Thanks for the response, Barb.  My preferences box "Use modified date if EXIF data is not found" was unchecked, so that doesn't solve my problem.
Based on the link you referred me to, it looks as if Adobe introduced this unknown date bug in PSE 6 and still has not (and probably never will) corrected it. Assuming there's no fix, I guess my choices are to convert all my scanned photos to a dummy date, stick with PSE 5 (my knee jerk reaction) until I get a new computer which has Windows 7 (which may or may not be compatible with PSE 5) or find another data management program.
It's too bad because I like the way Organizer handles hierarchical tags, collections and version sets - much better, IMO, than Bridge in Photoshop CS3 which I also have.  FWIW, I generally start with the PSE Organizer and use CS3 as my external edititor.

  • PSE8 and Windows 7 Bugs Confirmed by Adobe

After spending over an hour with tech support, the second level technician confirmed that there are currently some incompatibilities with PSE 8 when interacting with other programs inside of Windows 7. Specifically, I have identified (and Adobe confirmed) that neither the Photo Mail nor the Ceiva functions will work correctly. Others (such as mail attachment) do work. All apparently work with Vista and other OSs.
I was told that there are certain bridging files that existed in Windows Vista (and XP) that no longer exist in Windows 7. Adobe is aware of the problem and working on a patch. It's not clear to me why they didn't post this information (and any other known bugs) in the Knowledgebase...but I hope this saves others some time with tech support.
Adobe did not give me any commitment for when the fix will be available.

Very interesting. I DID get photo mail to work when I did the right-click administrator procedure. It did NOT work when I
created a new adminstrator level user though. I'm not sure what the difference is in how Windows 7 handles these.
This did NOT, however, solve the CEIVA problem.
Thanks for the idea. At least I'm more functional now.

  • Problems with PSE8 after upgrading to Windows 7

    Hi,
I was previously using PSE8 with Windows XP. Now I updated to Windows 7 (32-bit Home Premium).
My catalog folder and photos are located in file server folder which is mapped to local drive M:. This drive works normally for all other Windows apps.
Now when I tried to open catalog folder again, PSE8 says: "Failed to Open Catalog. The catalog could not be opened. It is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated". This catalog file was created with same PSE8 in Windows XP.
I tried to go around this first error by creating new empty catalog. Then when I try to import photos (30000 tagged photos) again into new empty catalog folder, I'm unable to select the folder where all photos are located in file selection dialog via File=>Get Photos and Videos=>From Files and Folders. When I click this folder in file selector dialog, this folder just vanishes from the list. It seems that file selector dialog just does not work correctly now in Windows 7.
How I can get PSE8 working with Windows 7?
I did not find _any_ bug fix update releases for PSE8 either from the download pages nor via updates feature in the application.
    .Mikko

I actually managed to find a way around my original problem:
    When following operation fails:
Menu=>File=>Get Photos and Videos=>From Files and Folders
=>(open a network drive folder, in this case it was mapped to drive letter M:)
=>Try to select folder icon from Drive M with folder name "Photos" by clicking it with mouse
    Result:
    Selected folder disappears from list.
    How to go around this:
Menu=>File=>Get Photos and Videos=>From Files and Folders
=>(open a network drive folder, in this case it was mapped to drive letter M:)
=> Write a folder name "Photos" manually to Filename: field => Press Open
    Result:
    Now folder was opened correctly.
So there just seems to be a bug in this PSE8 file selector dialog.

  • How do i create a revolving pic in PSE8 for mac?

I want to have a small gif of 3 pics that revolve every 1-2seconds. it would be 150x100 so pretty small. is there a way to do this in pse8 for mac? thanks in advance.

You create an animated gif by making a layered file (each layer is like one cel in the animation), then using save for web to save it as an animated GIF. However, there's a bug in PSE 6 and 8 for mac that won't let you adjust the animation speed, so you'd be better off using a program like gifbuilder or giffun:

  • LR3 error when import PSE8 catalog

    Hello,
can anybody help me? I used PSE5 for years and like to upgrade now to LR3 (catalog >13,000 pictures). As LR3 cannot import PSE catalogs, I installed PSE8 and converted my PSE5 to PSE8. The catalog works fine in PSE8, I optimized the catalog and already checked for errors (repair) - no issues found. I installed LR3 trial and used the function upgrade catalog. LR3 recognizes my PSE8 catalog and asks to upgrade it. But this doesn't work ! After 5 min at approx. 50%, the upgrade stops with the error "cannot upgrade catalog" and the message that an error occurred but no further info. I can only choose "show in explorer" or "select other catalog" or "Cancel". What can I do to identify the problem? I have no idea. Anybody knows is there is anywhere an import log file?
Thank you very very much for your help!
    Matt
PS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, Intel i7-860 2,8GHz, 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD, catalog on local ntfs drive

    Summary (June 26th)
I started the original post and still have no solution. What is the current status:
    1) The issue happens whether you use PSE7 or PSE8. It seems no solution to convert the PSE7 catalog to PSE8 and then trying to import into Lightroom 3. Users report that this wont help.
    2) Adobe is aware of the issue.
    3) I sent my catalog to Adobe but did not get any solution. They contacted me several times, which was a friendly nice contact with Becky. But the engineers did not contacted me as announced, not even a single time.
    4) The Lightroom 3 Beta tester discount was only valid till June 18th. This option is over now because I did not liked to buy a software that potentially wont work.
    5) I cannot recommend to contact the Adobe support directly via your support plan. Its just awful ! They do not have a clue at all, they do not know about the actual problems. They ask you funny and time wasting questions like to reinstall Windows or reinstall Lightroom and so on. Really annoying in my case was, that the said: "This is a trial, we do not offer support." They never answered my question "How should I try the software, if its not working?" and never offered a solution. Not even offered to contact the engineers or report a bug. The only help I got was trough this forum. Really bad job Adobe. Really really bad. (The software costs ~300 Euro !!)
    6) Thanks to everyone in this blog! We do the job that Adobe should do, testing their software. I loved Adobe and I fully agree that mistakes happen, but the way Adobe handles this is close to unaccaptable (I had really much trouble to migrate from PSE5 to PSE8. Also in this case forget about the support.)
    Best regards,
    Matt

  • Bugs in PSE-8

Since Photoshop Album, I have been using PSE versions 3, 4,and 7 for quite some time. Recently I "upgraded" to 8 (probably mistakenly without searching this Fourm first). I am having a terrible experience, and now wonder if this is general or restricted to me (touches of Woody Alan paranoia).
I made a backup of my pictues (~14'000 * 2 for edited versions), uninstalled PSE-7 and installed PSE-8. No problem. However, since then (April 14) the Organizer crashes all the time (I haven't really tried the Editor yet). Not in any particular order:
    1. It says "Out of Memory", even after working for a releatively short time, so there must be a memory leak somewhere.
    2. Despite regenerating all the thumbnails, when scanning through the workspace odd pictures are shown with a broken link, although "update thumbnail" (ctr-shift-U) fixes this. There is no pattern I can see and no links are broken.
On one ocassion a panarama I had made, and viewed in Full Screen, refused to display at a later date in FS, showing only a broken link icon.
    3. On half a dozen occassions PSE has simply stopped and asked me to send a report to Adobe. There is no obvious pattern here, either, except it seems to be when I am using full-screen viewing, or changing between this and the workspace (with pictures displayed sequentially).
    4. I set up the FS viewing mode with "zoom" transitions and when this finished displaying about 30 pictures it simply stopped at the last one and refused to exit full screen mode. Escape, enter, ctrl-y, crl-c or whatever had no effect. I had to bring up the Task Moinitor (or switch off the PC) to get access to the underlying windows on the screen.
    5. I tried to choose a different MP3 file to play when automatically viewing pictures in full-screen. One worked, but another seemingly equally-good file plays for about 3 seconds and stops (in iTunes or Windows Media there is no problem with any file).
    6. After some odd problem in full-screen mode it left the control bar in the middle of the screen and I coudln't fix this without restarting PSE.
I don't think this list is exhaustive, but I only started making notes when it dawned on me how bad the situation was. PSE-7 did crash occassionally ("Photoshop Elements has detected a problem and has to exit"), but nothing like this situation when I don't think I have managed to use the program much more than half an hour without a crash. And the problem with Adobe is that in the past they have seemed to refuse to provide patches to fix their bugs, but expect you to buy the next version (almost at full price). I wouldn't mind even that so much, except that as in my transition from PSE 7 to 8, there is no guarantee that the new version isn't going to be worse than the old one (I seem to remember that 5 was awful, but I didn't buy it). As I have said before, I would be only too happy to pay for a version with no more features, but with existing ones which have been debugged. Am I the only one with this wish?
Any suggestions (or perhaps sympathy!) greatfully received. Is it a problem with 64 bits? Can one go back from a PSE-8 catalog to PSE-7? Should I simply use Picassa?
    With regards,
            David M.
N.B my PC has 4 processors, 6 GB memory, two disks (system at 10'000 rpm), a Brother colour laser printer connected via USB and an NEC 2560x1600 digital screen (which is marvellous). It runs Windows 7 64 bit with all patches installed and of course A/V.

  • Just bought PSE7, should I return it and swap for PSE8?

I had a brief look for PSE8 being on the horizon but didn't spot anything at the time (I don't know why but something I read led me to believe they were not yearly and regular as clockwork!).
Anyway the reason I was looking in the first place was that Amazon UK sent me an e-mail saying PSE7 was on special offer, so I downloaded the trial and was impressed with what you could do with the product. In the end I decided to get the PSE & Premiere 7 combo pack for £69, which seemed like a good price for two pieces of quality software.
However I now find out that the PSE & Premiere 8 combo pack is out soon, Amazon UK have it on preorder for £101. Now since I was waiting for my trial to expire and my copy of Windows 7 to arrive before installing it, my copy of v7 is still sealed and can still be returned under Amazon's return policy.
Question is, is it worth going to the expense/trouble of returning this version and then ordering the new version for a £32 premium?
Some reviews seem to suggest it's not worth the upgrade - but I'm not upgrading as I've never owned the product, the upgrade price would be around £60 for just PSE or £90 for both - so much more than it would cost me to return and rebuy.
Things that make me think PSE8 would be a good idea include - it supports Windows 7 which I'm getting when released (though I presume PSE7 will still work fine), I have no organisation to my photo's aside from folders relating to what month or event they were taken so I'm liking the idea of better organisation tools (although I don't know how good the PSE7 ones are, or if I'll actually ever get round to sitting down and doing it - I've had tagging programs before that I haven't had the time or patience to use), and the photo resizing thing looks like a cool gimmick (though I don't know if it has that many practical applications).
Things that make me think keeping PSE7 would be a good idea - PSE/Premiere 8 only really have minor changes for the most part, I got v7 for a special discount price and I'd be returning that to get a full priced product (although Amazon is a bit discounted as it should be £115, not £101), some people on this forum have been complaining about the stability of PSE8 and about some of it's new features, v7 is already set on my desk and ready to go, and this time next year v9 will come out that might have huge improvements so I could stick with the cheaper v7 and put the money towards v9 instead.
What do you think? Swap or keep?

but only because PSE8 will continue to get updates/bug fixes for the next year.
The only thing adobe ever updates for Elements is ACR and that usually works for quite a while after a version is superseded. At least so far they haven't been cutting off previous versions when a new one is released, the way they do in PS, so I wouldn't worry about that.

  • PSE8 crashes when I try to email photos using Adobe Email Service

The PSE8 Organizer crashes when I attempt to email photos.  In the 2 months that I have owned this program it has crashed several other times, but the current problem with emailing photos always occurs at the same step in the process.  I have read all the Help topics related to emailing from this program and it appears that my computer is set-up correctly.  The email client is selected as Adobe Email Service.  I have received a "verification code", although I have never gotten far enough into the process to enter it.  I'm able to go through all the steps to create the email (selecting the photos, typing a message, and selecting recipients).  A preview of the email briefly appears, but the program crashes before the hourglass goes away - so I never get to click on "send".
Is there a bug in the program?  Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
    Thank you

Hi Sourabh:  Many thanks for the courtesy of your
response.  Last night I again tried sending a
test image to my wife's computer.  I am pasting a
copy of what comes through.  There is no actual
image but only this "text" of letters, numbers
and characters which I presume is the ingredients
of an image.  I have cut off some of the pasted
message since it is quite long and I only want to
convey a sample so as to show what come
through.  Got any ideas?  Thanks again.  Ed

  • PSE8 - Slideshow not burning

I have recently purchased PSE8 and started a new Album of photos I want to use in a slideshow. But in attempting to created this I have encountered the following problems:
    - Everything works to the point of burning the slideshow. Physically you can track the system as it goes through each step in the process right down to poping the CD tray on completing the burn. The CD-RW used is new and undamaged but through Windows Explorer nothing has been written to the CD. This is the same for and PDF written to a clean DVD. What step am I missing or is this a known bug in the software?
    - The video tutorial suggests that you can burn to both CD and DVD in either format WMV or PDF but my software burns neither. Is this one and the same problem as above?
    - Initially my saved slideshow was stored in a system generated Projects folder visible through in folder view. I must have pressed the wrong button but now I can see nether the slideshow nor PDF creation. How do I get this Projects folder to appear in the folder view again?
    - PSE8 slideshow appears to randomly alter the caption points size when creating the slideshow. When editing is there a automated way to have the system uniformly alter all captions to a nominated point size?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Neil

    - Everything works to the point of burning the slideshow. Physically you can track the system as it goes through each step in the process right down to poping the CD tray on completing the burn. You could try a CD-R (instead of a CD-RW): it may not be  the cause of your problem but CDs are cheap.
There are 2 common causes of a problem at this stage. One is a software conflict with other installed software that does direct access to a CD or DVD disc, and this can usually be resolved by turning off that function in the Roxio or Sonic or other burning software that is installed. The other is an older software driver for the DVD drive.  There was an Adobe technical document describing this situation and if you really need the info I will try to locate that doc on the revamped Adobe supprt site. But read on to my next paragraph first.
Is your objective to create a TV playable video? Because if yes, the resolution of what you can write to a CD from the PSE slide show editor is only 320x240 and for most people its quality is too poor to be useful. I gave up on it several versions ago. So you may want to investigate an entirely different approach.
    - The video tutorial suggests that you can burn to both CD and DVD in either format WMV or PDF but my software burns neither. Is this one and the same problem as above?
No it would most probably not be the same problem especially if you are able to burn to CD or DVD discs using other software.
A PDF file or WMV are additional choices that exist when you make the Save as a File choice for the Slide Show Output. You first save the PDF file or the WMV file to your hard drive and then use your Burning software program (whatever you have installed or came preloaded on your PC including potentially the functionality within windows) to burn it to the disc.
    - Initially my saved slideshow was stored in a system generated Projects folder visible through in folder view. I must have pressed the wrong button but now I can see nether the slideshow nor PDF creation. How do I get this Projects folder to appear in the folder view again?
I don't use Folder View very often. You could switch to Thumbnail view, most recent first and look in time sequence in the time range when you last saved that slide show project or that PDF
Before you look again, go to the View menu of the Organizer and under Media Types be sure that Projects and PDF are checked. (This setting of what types of media are shown can cause problems if you make a temporary change and then forget to set it back.).
    - PSE8 slideshow appears to randomly alter the caption points size when creating the slideshow. When editing is there a automated way to have the system uniformly alter all captions to a nominated point size?
I have not expereinced this problem. Are these captions that you typed within the slide show editor OR are these captions that were entered for ap photo file and then shown in the slide show?
(I don't think there is a way to change ALL captions after they are entered in the slide show).

  • PSE8: Rotated picture isn't saved in folder of the original

I have encountered a strange problem (for me). Whenever I rotate a picture in the PSE8 Organizer which is located on my NAS, the rotated picture is saved in the local folder (which you can define in the preferences dialog). This is really annoying. I can drag the picture (or the complete stack) back to the original folder on the NAS in PSE8. So there shouldn't be an access/right problem.  Is there a solution of this strange behaviour? When I rotate a picture in a folder on the local harddisk, the rotated image stays in the original folder.  Thank you very much!

Yes, your catalog has two entries in the volume table for your network drive that differ only in the case of the UNC path, and this is most likely causing your problems.
Did you convert this catalog from an earlier version of PSE? I know that in PSE 8 Adobe fixed one bug with respect to the case of the path, and I'm wondering if this is another bug still remaining in PSE 8 or whether it was introduced by your earlier version of PSE.
As for fixing this, your only option is to download the SQLite Database Browser tool and modify the internals of your catalog file.  I can give you a sketch of what you need to do if you want, but if you haven't worked with Microsoft Access or relational databases before, it may not be something you want to take on.   And I'm not sure whether the bug might come back to bite you again.

  • Installation error -- PSE8 upgrade to PSE11 on Mac

I purchased and downloaded the PSE11 upgrade to PSE8 for my Mac.  During installation I received an Exit Error, which instructed me to restart my system and reinstall.  I did that.  It errored a second time.  I restarted a second time and reinstalled.  It errored a third time.  I restarted a third time and reinstalled.  It errored again.  I contacted Adobe support via chat and pasted the error message for their review.  They said they lacked the expertise to assist me and recommended I contact Adobe support by phone.  That phone call costs $39.  I paid $79 for the software.  Seems odd to pay a nearly 50% premium to speak to someone about an installation problem, but perhaps that's the world I now live in?
I checked -- my Mac is fully up-to-date on all OS software, no bugs or issues, running smoothly and without problems; in fact, PSE8 runs just fine.
Before I try to return the product for a refund (that should be fun), I thought I would give the world of real tech experts a try at this -- any suggestions, recommendations, or ideas?  Any reasonable assistance is appreciated.

Kevin R 64029 actually our support team would be unable to assist you with anything but an activation failure.  You can find a list of our current supported products at http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/policies/supported.html.
I would recommend you begin by looking at your installation logs to determine the error which is preventing you from installing.  You can find details on how to accomplish this at Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html.

  • Editing with Photoshop CS4 from PSE8 Organizer

I have made numerious attempts to use Photoshop CS4 to edit an image in the PSE8 organizer rather than Photoshop Elements. There is a shortcut to launch CS4 which is Ctrl-H rather than the usual Ctrl-I. CS4 launched and I complete the edit. I do a save as but Organizer retains the Edit in Progress red bar across the image (edited version) and this does not go away even when CS4 is closed.
If I close PSE8 Organizer the Edited file is no longer there, in Elements or indeed in the folder. The same happens whether I save as a jpg or psd file.
Can anyone point out what is going wrong or give me the correct procedure for making this work.
    Peter

Peter I would love to find a solution for you.
There has always been a bug with PSE7 requiring edited RAW images from ACR to be manually imported back into PSE Organizer. This may apply to Jpegs and could have rolled-over into PSE8.
As PSE8 is fully supported I suggest you raise a ticket with Adobe Support through the contact link but it does not guarantee a solution to your problem.
This Adobe tech Note gives further details.

  • EXIF time difference once images imported into Organizer in PSE8

I have been frustrated for a very long time and did some reading on the web - The solution: Sorry it is a bug
in PSE* and cannot be fixed!!!!!
The problem: Once I have imported images into PSE8 Organizer the EXIF time is converted to exactly two hours earlier, i.e. to GMT whereas I am at GMT+2. Note that the time on my Canon 7D and my computer (on windows 7) are correct!!!!!! If I do not use organizer, I do not have the problem!
From what I have read it is a bug in PSE and there is no permanent fix, but really.... How can Adobe not solve the problem?
Will it help if I purchase another copy of PSE8, is there a PERMANENT fix available and if so, what?
I am really frustrated, as I want to use the organizer, but cannit do it as the time is of great importance to me in my wildlife photography!!!!
    Anyone?
    Rudi

Wonderful! This EXIF standard, 2.2, http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/digCam/exifStandard2.pdf explains to me that the original form of the material digitized could be a "slide", "paper", "map" and so forth; so it's a standard for many types of digital still "cameras", not just a standard for typical, portable consumer cameras. EXIF time recording is first described on page 55.
Most of the time (or all of the time for me?), in Lightroom, the "date time original" and "Time Date digitized" has been the same and changing the original date will obviously (?) change the digitized date, too.
    Thanks!
PS: re-reading my post, I don't want anyone to think I was really getting RAW data from my Sony. It's a great little pocket camera but it only produces JPG's.

  • PSE9 Organizer Different thab PSE8

In Windows PSE8 Organizer when you are in the Thumbnail View mode, and thumbnails are totally minimalized, you can grab the bar on the right side of the thumbnail viewing area and navigate from date file to date file. I find that this feature is not in PSE9 ...unless my set up is wrong. How do I get the bar to work the same in 9 as in PSE8?

You can view the differences in PSE 8 and 9 here http://prodesigntools.com/version-compare-difference-between-photoshop-elements-9-8-7-6.ht ml. We welcome your feedback on the products. Please log a feedback or bug from link https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
