Bug in QoS?

Recently upgraded by WRT610N to an E4200. I manually entered all of the configuration parameters and it came up just fine, but afterwards, I noticed that upstream performance was terrible. I ran a speed test, and I was getting ~ 1M of upstream bandwidth now, vs ~ 11-12M on the 610. After troubleshooting for a while and chatting with 2 techs, I did a factory reset and started over with the configs, this time running a speed test in between each settings page. As soon as I turned QoS on, bandwidth was immediately capped at ~ 1.1M up. I created a MAC-based High priority entry for my PC (the only one on the network at this time so there could be no interference from other devices) but no help. I soon realized that the problem was the Auto setting. If I manually set the upstream bandwidth to 12M, then things worked fine. On Auto, though, bandwidth was always throttled around 1M. I have left this in Manual mode for now, but this seems to be a problem. I am running 1.00.03 Build 14 (latest) and have not tried earlier firmware releases.
One other odd behavior. As part of my debugging, I put the 610 back in place as the gateway (talking to the cable modem) and set up the E4200 on a 192.168.2.1 subnet underneath the 610 so I could continue to test it while letting the rest of the family back on the net. Strangely here, there was no issue with upstream bandwidth in the Auto mode with QoS. (1G Cat6 Ethernet connection from the E4200 to the 610N). So, it gets it right with Ethernet to another router (at least close enough) but not when talking to the cable modem (DOCSIS2) directly.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
Disclaimer: I work for Cisco but not at Linksys.

Your uplink speed throttling looks pretty similar to mine.
I suspect the reason this was not reproduced in the lab is the type of connection between the devices. I saw pretty much the same bandwidth in Auto or Manual when the E4200 was talking to the 610N (25-30Mbps down, 11-13Mbps up). Unplug it and plug it into the cable modem, and instant throttling.
I also recently bought a new DOCSIS3 modem for another location and I'll try switching to that and see if it makes a difference. It's a Moto SB6120 with a GE port. If that works my first guess would be the GE vs 10/100 ( what  the current cable model has).
I will post the results in a week or so. Too busy next week to debug this any more ...

  • WRT54G v6 1.01.00 QoS Firmware Bug

I've noticed the QoS settings page has a bug in it. When attempting to enable QoS with Auto Bandwidth, you will not be able to save. You're instead given an error that the bandwidth must be between 64-1000000000.
To get around this, set it to manual and enter a number between that range and then select Auto again. You should then be able to save with automatic bandwidth settings for QoS

Your ringer keeps going off where mine just doesn't ring and now vibrates when it is supposed to be an audible notification.

  • WRT54GS V6 Bug - QoS Bug Firmware v1.50.9

In the QoS section i tried to setup a Entry for my VoIP Packet 8 Phone and when i Enable Qos and under "Device Priority" i enter the MAC address of my VoIP Phone adapter and set the priority to high. I have the Upstream Bandwidth set to Auto and when i click save setting it tells me that the Bandwidth is out of range must be 64-100000. But it is set on AUTO and the Bandwidth box is Grayed out so you cant type in the box.  So it is a Bug for sure.
I can set the Upstream Bandwidth to Manual and type in a number between the 64-100000 and then set it back to Auto and it retains the number even though it grays it out then it will let me save it.
So i guess the AUTO is not AUTO.
    I have firmware 1.50.9

can your wireless pc still see your ssid after the upgrade? after the upgrade you may had reseted the router. what error message are your getting?
Make sure that the wireless settings are all configured correctly.

  • SGE2000 QoS: Ingress Rate Limit BUG ?

I buyed a new unit of SGE2000. Thirst I changed firmware to newest one (3.0.0.18) so I do not know what firmware was installed before.
The problem is that it is not posssible to change Ingress Rate Limit to value lower than 3500...
    Hardware Version
    00.00.01
    Software Version
    3.0.0.18
    Boot Version
    2.0.0.03
    Manual says:
Ingress Rate Limit — Defines the amount of bandwidth assigned to the interface.
For FE ports, the rate is 62 - 100,000 Kbps.
For GE ports, the rate is 62 - 1,000,000 Kbps
    ====
Default value for Ingress Rate Limit field is 3500, while I change it to eg. 512 the combobox is opening with warning information:
"Entered value in highlighted field must be an Integer. Range 3500...1000000"
"Committed Information Rate (CIR)" field allow to put a value down to 64, so it is ok.
    Should I downgrade firmware to v3.0.0.17 ?
    Any help appreciated.

My appologies for the lack of reply here.  I checked with the PM for the product and they asked me if there is a case open with the Small Business Support Center (SBSC) on this issue.  Have you had a case open on this yet?  If not can I ask you to log a case and then respond back to this postig with the case number please?  It seems this is a bug so the product team will need to process the fix for this via the standard problem identification/case reporting process.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lowering my bandwidth (Qos?) setup help needed

In order to better decide if a lower bandwidth from my provider will suffice I'm trying to find out if there's a way I can configure my router to limit bandwidth to a certain speed, so as to simulate what this lower speed will feel like.
Having read several threads on the subject it seems like the "QOS bandwidth management" feature is the way to go, which my RVS-4000 router has. However, even after reading Cisco's configuration guides and other Cisco pages on the subject I'm having trouble setting this up, finding it a bit complicated for a network novice to understand. Can someone please tell me how to set this up?
Enclosed is a screenshot of my router's QOS page.

Yes, this seems to be true if you go to the "manual" set-up method. It failed for me too, several times, because of this. Finally, I even tried to set the TC to Create a network of the same specs of the network I wanted it to join. That failed, as expected, because it caused interference with the existing network on my old AirPort Extreme Base Station. My next try was to connect AirPort Utility to the TC (wirelessly from my MacBook) and retry using the easy set-up method. Lo and behold, it worked, and "Join Existing Network" now appears on its Manual Setup panel in AirPort Utility.
Looks like a little bug in AirPort Utility, having that pop-up menu sometimes missing that item.
So, long story short, my TC had this problem, and now it works.
I'd go through the setup from factory reset again to document it exactly, but the family is using it now, so the best I can do is describe it from memory. If the easy setup to Join Existing Network doesn't work for you, then re-do the setup to Create Network with the same specs as the one you want to join. Then when it comes up arguing with the other Base Station ("I am the master of this network." +"No, I am the master of this network!"+), go back to AirPort Utility and connect to the TC, going through the easy setup again, choosing Join instead. Then it might work.

  • Cisco 2960x - auto qos voip cisco-phone on access ports

After configuring "auto qos voip cisco-phone" on a stack of 2960x switches, we later noticed that after a power cycle (config was saved first) it went missing when doing a "show run" from the interface configs, on one of the switches (g1/0/1-48 had it applied, then after power cycle it didn't show).  However, doing a "show auto qos interface" shows it is still applied to all interfaces g10/1-48.
I try to do "auto qos voip cisco-phone" again on g1/0/1-48, and it shows this:
    SwitchStack01(config-if-range)#auto qos voip cisco-phone
    AutoQoS Error: AutoQoS already configured
% Range command terminated because it failed on GigabitEthernet1/0/1
If I attempt to remove "auto qos voip cisco-phone", it shows this:
    SwitchStack01(config-if-range)#no auto qos voip cisco-phone
    AutoQoS Error: AutoQoS not configured
% Range command terminated because it failed on GigabitEthernet1/0/1
When I do a "show run", it is no longer displayed for the first switch of the stack. So is it still applied to the interfaces or not?   Is this a bug?  Has anyone else experienced this?  This has happened to at least a couple stacks of 2960x's we have.
    Thanks!

It appears to be a bug in the code.  Open a TAC ticket with Cisco and send them the output and the IOS version you are using so they can help you resolve the issue.   Most likely, they recommend an upgrade.

  • WRVS4400N Any chance linksys will fix the bugs?

So, do you guys think there is any hope that linksys will ever fix the firmware on this router? I have to buy some more VPN capable routers and quite honestly I'm debating if I should just find a way to return the ones I already have and buy them all of them from some other company. I'm kind of losing my faith in linksys on this one. I should have never started upgrading from the old ones, people wanted N though. Turns out the N on these things have worse performance than the G on the old ones. And VPN, I don't even know why they bothered with that since it doesn't work. All the interface bugs are pretty annoying as well. FTP going out every couple of hours is fun too.. I would have been happy to fill out a ticket system in proven reproducible bugs. But I'm not going to go through the support idiocy just to 'maybe' get something to the engineers on the other side of them. I'm sort of starting to give up because I need something that works as advertised and I needed it months ago when I originally got these.

Well the FTP issue has been very frustrating for me to say the least. I figured I would place another call to support to get an update. After 1 hour 20 minutes on hold, call backs, and transfers to Level 2 support I was disconnected. I gave them 3 hours to call me back. (they had 2 contact numbers for me.) I called back for another 30 minute wait only to have the tech start the flow chart process of troubleshooting. I informed her I had already been through all the suggested remedies such as lower the MTU, play around with QOS, and IPS. I said "listen this is odvously a known issue since there are 6500+ hits when you google "wrvs4400n ftp" which many link to this forum. She told me they dont know of this issue. I asked her if she read the Linksys forums to which she responded yes. I then said I guess you are not allowed to confirm this issue. She told me that the programmers may be working on an updated firmware, but she knew nothing about it, (but was very quick to have me start to play with settings.)
I would feel much better if they would say we know there are issues with the wrvs4400n. We are working on an updated firmware to remedy the issues.
I dont have the high pitch wine issue and I am not using vpn so my only beef is with FTP.
This thing isn cheep. I have a feeling it wont be too long before there is a class action lawsuit.

  • Catalyst 2960-x Tel 1 and g49, bug

    Hi Cisco Community
I am experiencing a very strang bug or it's just a "feature". We are setting up 3 Catalyst 2960-x (EX5) as a stack. Te 1/0/1 and Te 2/0/1 are bundled as Etherchannel. (works fine "In-channel-group")

  • WCCP bug notice for IOS 15.2.2T

    Just FYI...
I have had two ISRG2 routers (2900 & 3900) hit by a bug in IOS 15.2.2T. TAC has verified it is a defect.
    (SR 621141965)
    Fix;
Downgrade below 15.2.2T , upgrade to 15.2.2T1, or add a SEC license to the router.
    Senario;
If you have an ISRG2 router and only have a IPBase license. (SEC licensed routers are not an issue)
If you are running IOS 15.2.2T
If you use an ACL on the router to select what is redirected to WAAS
All WCCP redirected traffic is "redirect_denied"
    TAC;
    Diabled CEF
Set WCCP to redirect ANY traffic
Tried "ip wccp 61 redirect in" and "ip wccp 62 redirect out" on a single interface
Tried to remove NBAR, QOS, IP FLOW, and other services from the Interface
Nothing we tried would resolve the issue.

I am ready to throw my phone at the wall I am so frustrated by the annoying whooshing sound it emits after I send a text message. Upon calling Apple Tech Support I learned that there is no control setting to fix or alter the sound made once a text is sent.
I want to individually control what happens when I receive a call, receive a text, and send a text. I have no idea why they are all interconnected. This is a basic phone necessity that has been completely overlooked by Apple.
Those of you who have this same problem I encourage you to post about it so the problem is addressed in the next update. For a short term fix just set the phone to vibrate, you lose the ability to hear calls, but gain sanity that would otherwise be lost putting up with the whoosh sound.

  • Problems with QoS between 2950 and 3550 with use of Native VLAN

    Hi!
I try to set up QoS between a C2950 and a C3550, I have provided a drawing that might help understanding the setup.
As I understand it, since I only have the SMI image on the C2950 I have to run a 802.1Q trunk over the leased 2Mb line to get QoS to work. And I DO get it to work, or at least it seems so to me.
What I'm trying to setup QoS on is between a Nortel Succession Media Server and a Nortel i2004 IP Phone.
And when I sniff the port that the Succession Media Server is connected to, I get this output:

    But, then to the problem:
Since the modems I use have ip adresses in them I want to monitor them and be able to change settings in them.
But to connect to units within the trunk, I have to set the native vlan to VLAN 144, which provides the ip adresses I use for the modems, in both ends of the trunk.
But if I do that the tagging of the packets from the IP Phone disappears!
Here's an output after native VLAN is applied:

See, there is noe QoS tagging from the IP Phone anymore.
If I set no switchport trunk native vlan 144 in both ends the tagging is back.
Any ideas? Is this a bug, or just some command I don't know about?
Please take a look at the picture to get a more understandable view of the setup.
    Thanks!

Well, native VLANs are by definition untagged so there´s nothing wrong with that as far as you are getting the expected results. By the other way I think you should include VLAN 402 on your allowed vlan range on Catalyst 3550's FastEth0/45 trunk port, otherwise this VLAN will be completly isolated from the rest of the network.

  • E71 WLAN Bugs

The saga of WLAN issues with E66, E71 and E72 products seems to go back to 2008 or earlier.
Has Nokia actually solved the problem yet ?
I find it very frustrating that I can't reliably connect to our home network or any public ones I try. Generally get the message "No Gateway Reply"  though sometimes I'll get to the first page of a site and then get no response when clicking on boxes to  explore.

After some days, weeks, of messing about I seem to have some clue as to the issue with WLAN bugging E series users.
Though it may not be relevant, I turned ON the UPnP setting in my Netgear Router which one is generally told to turn off.
Turning QoS (is this the same as as WMM?) on or off seemed to make no difference.
The real breakthrough came when using the WLAN at a friend's place where his DLink router is in the same room as I was seated in. Suddenly WLAN worked consistently and quite quickly on my E71.
At home my router is  some distance from my living room. The E71 has always  shown a good signal level for my router but only when I moved as close as possible did it start to connect (albeit slowly).
I have to conclude that the real problem is the E series' wireless insensitivity -- the answer (though it's not really an answer) is that it works within fairly close proximity to the source.

  • 4500 Sup6 Etherchnnel QOS

We are deploying QOS in our 4500 Sup6. When we applied service-policy for queuing on the physical member of the etherchannel, that interface got kicked out of the etherchannel and interface bounced. I have experience applying service-policy (non-queuing)  in etherchannel in other cisco devices at it had no effect in the physical interface or port-channel. Is it an expected behaviour or is it something else, bug? I have not seen in any documentation online that this is the case. Is there any best practice to prevent this from happening?

  • WRT600N QoS Not Saving

WRT600N using 1.01.35 build 3 Does not save QoS settings. -- I enable QoS -- Category MAC Address -- Set a name -- Set MAC address (verified correct) -- set Priority high -- Save Settings Yet, upon refresh the entry is there but no priority? And, no edit button either! See what I mean? http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wrt600nqc4.png So, it doesn't seem that MAC address QoS works

If you want to do a bug report you have to contact Linksys support. This forum is community only.
    Regarding your issue:
    * check the Error Console of Firefox if it shows any specific error messages when you are on the QoS page. Maybe it is a bug in the JavaScript code. It may gives some pointers for a bug report, too.
    * software firewalls and/or antivirus software like to mess with JavaScript. The routers use very much JavaScript. Not fully functional web pages are often due to the firewall filtering some of the JavaScript. Make sure to turn off the firewall on the computer completely or deinstall it or try a different computer which does not have a software firewall installed.
