Bug in Search/Replace in InDesign CS4?

Question

I have a large amount of bibliographical data in a document, organised into 5 columns, which are separated by tabs. As I knew I'd want to do a fair bit of editing on the data in the second column, I set up the first and second columns on separate character styles. They're not actually typographically different from the rest of the data in terms of font and size etc., just called something different as I thought I could then do a search and replace by character style. I cannot get this to work in CS4. I set up the search term (looking for a lower case 'v' and changing it to superscript) and it says it can't find any. I place the cursor before one it should have found, it finds that one, and I can change it to superscript, but then it won't find any more. If I remove the character style from the search term, it finds them, so it must be something to do with the fact that I'm seaching by character style. I am doing something wrong, or is this a bug. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's driving me nuts wading through hundreds individually.

Firstly make sure that all the column you want to search has the character style applied appropriately.
Secondly make sure you select "Search: Document" in the Search options.
I just tried it here in CS3 and it worked fine.
Perhaps you could try rebuilding your preferences
Or deep clean your InDesign file
