Bug in Street View

When using Google Maps on a desktop Mac, we can click the Street View button and see a clear indication of streets that have been imaged: they are outlined in blue on the map. Click anywhere on one of these streets and the Street View window pops up.
In the iPhone 2.2 version of Google Maps, the map gives no visible indication that Street View is available. If you search for an address, the dark grey results flag may contain the man-in-a-red-circle button. Click it and you transition to Street View. But this feature is unreliable, as I discovered when I looked for my mom's condo on Miami Beach:
9309 Collins Ave, 33154
No red button for Street View. But the button is available if I search for an address right next door:
9312 Collins Ave, 33154
There is a Street View image right in front of my mom's building (at 9309), but the iPhone version of Maps does not find it. Yes, I can drop a pin and get the icon. But my point is that the software cannot reliably tell me that a street has been imaged, unless you enter one of the "lucky" addresses.

mcastorena, you could use an adjustment to your attitude. For your information, we are currently trying to sell my mother's condo, and it is useful to be able to provide the Street View imagery to potential buyers (so they can view the neighborhood). I checked the location to see if her address was visible in the iPhone version of Street View, and discovered it was not. This looks like a bug to me. Your reply was not helpful in any way whatsover.

  • Cursor won't show in text fields, Google Street View mouseup not working

My wife and I have nearly identical computers and update Firefox whenever a new version comes out.
Lately, only on her computer, when she clicks into the address bar or into a text field, the cursor sometimes does not appear. In some other text fields it does appear. In the address bar, whenever you click in it and then type, there is no cursor, and the entire address bar is always overwritten.
In Google Street View (I think it uses the Flash player), she can start dragging, but then the mouse "won't let go" - it is as if the mouse up command is ignored. I have to drag the mouse outside the picture area and then back in, or the dragging will continue.

  • Cannot move Google Street View screen

Firefox 3.6.24 will not allow me to move around in Google Street View. I cannot pan around from a fixed position as before. It works on my iPad2
    Mac OS X 10.6

Streetview probably works for most people.
Try using Internet Explorer IE does it work ?
If it works in IE but not Firefox it could be a Firefox or FlashPlayer issue.

  • Flash 11.1.102.55 crashes IE8 on Google Maps / street view

Since the Flash update to 11.1.102.55 I have had repeated crashes of my 32 bit Windows XP SP3 system.  They typically have happened in Internet Explorer 8, 32 bit version (updated with latest MS patches).
Sometimes the IE8 lock ups can be cleared by using task manager.  About 30% of the time, a machine power down/ reset is the only solution -- the screen freezes (mouse won't move, clock stops, Ctrl-Alt-Del won't work).
The machine is a Lenovo Z61p with 3Gb available memory.
I have been able to repeat the crashes by going to Google maps.
    Example:
    1. Go to Google Maps
    2. Look at Arlington National Cemetery in regular view
    3. Move the "Street View" stick figure to one of the Panarama photo points.  Screen with show photo view
    4. In the shrunken lower right corner map view, expand the map view to cover half the screen.
Things may get dicy about now.
    5. Try moving the stick figure on the map.  OR try expanding the photo to full screen.
I get repeated lockup at this point.

Try using a different browser. I use Firefox which you can download from here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/
If you don't like the "Tabs On Top" layout, you can move them to below the location bar by simply right clicking a blank part of it and then click the menu items called "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently appear below. Other tab layout options can be found in this support article: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars
There are no issues with Google Maps as far as I'm aware.

  • Using Google Maps Street View on My MacBook Pro

Recently, I have been getting "Plug-In Missing" in the place of a video in a blog post. Also, when I try to use Street View in Google Maps I get a box that tells me I need to install Adobe Flash Player 10 or later to be able to use Street View. Should I try to download and install Adobe Flash Player? What could I use to be able to use Google Maps Street View and/or to play videos?

I found my reply elsewhere - you have to uncheck "contacts" and then recheck it. Kinda idiotic, but there you have it!

  • Street View (google maps) not working on Firefox with SNA

I have a problem with Firefox when trying to use Street View in Google Maps. It basically kills the browser by being extremely slow. Now, this happens only when using SNA acceleration (default), but not with UXA or GLAMOR (just removed on latest update or xf86-video-intel). Everything else works fast and good with SNA, including WebGL in Firefox. Moreover, with Chromium I don't have this issue: Street View works fine with SNA.
This is an Intel based laptop with Gen5 Intel graphics (and in case it matters, I use KDE desktop):
    # cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep SNA
[455944.801] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Ironlake (gen5) backend
Anyone else noticed this? Any idea of what can be the problem?

  • HT5429 What happened to street view?

Is street view not available in maps with iOS6?

Street View is only supported with Google Maps, which as replaced with Apple Maps in iOS 6.
Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.
Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

  • Street View in Maps-Can't find

I recently got my iPhone 3G and i've heard that with software version 2.2 that you can see the street view on Google Maps application. I can't seem to find out how to access the street view. Am I just blind or is there a setting that needs to be switched on first? Thanks for the help.

It is only available in certain places (where they have mapped Street View data). When you plot a point (have a Pin) when you click on the pin, if you see an Orange person icon in the bubble that pops up (and not greyed out if it is there) then you can click that person and it will switch to Street View.
To test, try a search in Washington DC.

How do I use street view in apple maps?

You don't. Street View is a Google Maps feature, so you have to use it in the free, downloadable Google Maps app.

  • In google maps I cannot go to street view as I can in my other browsers. It tries to but quits and then says "done"

Google maps has street view where you can virtually put yourself on the street and move in 360 degrees of rotation and move in any direction to see the address you just looked up as it appears if you were standing in front of it. It used to work in earlier Firefox but in 3.6.9 it tries to but quits before it accomplishes the task stating "done" in the bottom lower left on the taskbar(?) then leaves a blank white screen. All necessary plug ins have been installed; Adobe Flash Player, Java, Shockwave. It works fine in Google Chrome and explorer but Firefox is my browser the browser I use over all others.

If you use extensions like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flashblock</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

  • Google Maps does not show street view or choice of map or satellite on 4.01. IE does.

I installed 4.01 on XP. Google Maps opens with satellite view. I cannot find toggle for maps. Street View is not available.
These still show up on IE8. VPike.com which is powered by Google Maps works fine.

    Are you using Adblock Plus?
