Bug in the German version of Numbers?

Hi
Is it possible that the German version of Numbers 08 has a bug or am I doing something wrong:
If I enter a formula via the forumla-button/more formulars (in German: Funktion/ Weitere Funktionen) with more then 1 input value it shows me something like:
=SUMMEWENN(firstvalue;second;third)
But that doesn't work. I seams that I need to replace the semicolons with commas to make it work:
=SUMMEWENN(BERECHNET,"=1",GESBETRAG)
Has any one made the same experience?
Cheers
Petr

This bug is likely related to Swiss number formats. In Germany they use comma as the decimal separator, so a semicolon makes there sense for separating formula values, but it breaks the formulas on a Swiss German system.
To fix it the "hard" way but for good (at least until the next update, that is), go to
/Applications/iWork '08/Numbers.app/Contents/Frameworks/SFTabular.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Ge rman.lproj/functions.strings
1. Duplicate this file first, name it e.g. "functions~original.strings" and leave it in the same location as a backup. (You may also want to make a backup zip archive of the whole Numbers.app if you're not very sure about hacking hidden files and you're afraid that you could mess things up...)
2. Open the original file in a plain text editor, TextEdit will suffice.
3. Scroll the document to the line that says: "ABS_FORMAT" = "ABS(Zahl)";
4. From there, select the text to the end of the document (command-shift-downarrow).
5. Open the Search & Replace window (command-F), enter "; " as search string, enter ", " as the replace string. DON'T FORGET TO ENTER THE SPACE BOTH AFTER THE COMMA AND SEMICOLON!
(EDIT: The reason for that is that you DON'T WANT to replace the semicolons at the end of each line!)
6. In the Search/Replace window, hold down the Option (Alt) key, and klick the button that will now say "In der Auswahl" (In the selection).
7. Save the file, overwriting the original.
8. Put a copy of the modified file somewhere to your Home folder (don't forget to note its original path into its Comment field), so you can reuse it for subsequent Numbers 1.0.x updates, since we don't need to hold our breaths that Apple will be too fast at fixing this bug...

No. serial numbers are platform specific and since you are not on the latest version, you cannot even make a language swap. you would have to buy the CS6 upgrade to do so.

  • I upgraded to the new Numbers, but when I try to open an edited spreadsheet, I get this: "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet. You can download the latest version of Numbers from the Mac App Store." Help!

When I check for upgrades, my computer "No updates available" and says "OS X Update Version 10.9.2 installed Mar 9, 2014."
When I go to the app store to get the new Numbers, it says "installed".
I shut down and rebooted my computer, but I still get the message that says I need new Numbers to open the spreadsheet that I want to open. I can open other spreadsheets, those all work.  I just can't open the one I want.  Please help. I need the data on that spreadsheet TODAY!!!

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of numbers on my mac. Everytime I save and then try to reopen that document, I receive a message telling me that I need a new version of numbers. Also, when I try to sort the date column, it sorts out of order. The last version sorted fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.
Respecting to the second question, you will get better answers in the Numbers for OS X forum

  • I've updated to the latest version of Numbers but there's one file I can't open.  I get an error message "You need a newer versions of Numbers to open this file."  Help!

I've got an important file I need to access.  I had no trouble on 9/20 and today I am told I need to download the latest version of Numbers, which I'd already done.  I'm not having trouble with any other files.  Help

  • My JPEGS are no longer being copied over to Finder.  Only a random fraction are copied.  It use to work perfect.  Is there a bug in the updated versions of iPhoto?

My JPEGS are no longer being copied over to Finder.  Only a random fraction are copied.  It use to work perfect.  I can move them 4 or 5 at a time, but it is very time consuming.    Is there a bug in the updated versions of iPhoto?

OK - here is what I've done in the past.  As I want to be able to save my photos on  a DVD that can be read by both a PC and a Mac, I am burning them in Finder.  I start by downloading into IPhoto.  I'll flag and edit the ones I want to print or post to the web.  After that I want to take all the keepers and move them from IPhoto to various files I create in the document  section of Finder.  I've done it both ways in the past, copy and paste or just drag over, all the files would transfer over.  Now there may be dozens of pictures that do not move over - very random, in one case there were only 6 photos and the 3 vertical ones did not copy over.
I'm wondering if this is a software issue or if there is just too much data being moved around.  FYI there are 2 Nikon cameras I use and the files from both do this.
    Thanks

  • How do I change page orientation in the latest version of numbers?

IT seems that each subsequent update of I works removes features that I found VERY helpful in the past. I cannot seem to find a way to format the page in the latest version of numbers.

In the "Print Setup" mode (after selecting menu item "File > Print..."): you can change the page orientation:
This will not change how you see things on the screen while it will affect how the content is paginated at print time

  • How can I work in 'print view' in the new version of Numbers

I've just upgrade to Mavericks and am using the latest version of Numbers. In the previous version I was using I was able to work in "Print View", it made pagination so much easier. I can't find that option in the new version. Is it possible?

It seems to work differently from previous incarnations.  If you Hit Cmd+P it takes you to a print setup screen where the document can be set up. You can then print or just hit "Done" to take you back to normal editing.

  • There is no "Great Britain" in the German version of icloud.

Hi, I use the German version of icloud. In the address section there is no chance to choose "Great Britain". I cannot type it either. What went wrong?

That's great! But hopefully it is still afloat as my son lives there.
And no: There is no England, Wales or even Scotland at hand. The map seems to be totally blank in this area. And guess what: As I tried Great Britain: the next available country in this list was chosen. It is Malaysia.
I am grateful for your support and I do love Your humour!
    Cheers.

  • The new version of numbers will not start - it used to work and now I have spreadsheets that I cannot open. Any ideas?

It seems to have stopped working after installing the new version of iMovie.

You need to do as Jerry suggests because after the upgrade you very likely still have the old version of Numbers on your Mac. The new Numbers 3.1 is in your main Applications folder. The old version is in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09.  You can use both versions.  But you can't use the old version to open a document that has been created or edited in the new version (or in Numbers for iOS).

  • With the new version of numbers, 3.0, how can I stop the spread sheet from scrolling horizontally without reducing the size?

With the new version of numbers, 3.0, how can I stop the document from moving horizontally?  When I scroll up or down I find it annoying that the document might shift to the left, and then I have to scroll it back to the right.  The only way I've found to stop it from moving horizontally is by reducing the document down to about 50%, but then I can't read the document.  I prefer having the document set at 125%, but then the bottom horizontal scroll bar shows up, and then the document can shift to the left if I'm not exact with my scrolling up or down.

    Hi Nels,
Please update your profile. Numbers 3.0 will not run on Mountain Lion (10.8.x)

  • Can the latest version of numbers [mountain lion] import data from filemaker version 12

can the latest version of inumbers [ mountain lion ] import data from the newest version of filemaker 12 ?

i want to import a filemaker database [ version 12 ] directly into inumbers [ latest version ].
m/s excel 2011 only allows the import of filemaker database - thru version 11 .
since excel does not offer compatibility to filemaker version 12,  im looking to see if the lastest version of numbers provides this ability.   ? ? ?

  • Does the latest version of Numbers have macros?

Does the latest version of Numbers include the ability to create macros?  Thanks,

Like any other app on the Mac in Numbers 3.0 you can do basic "GUI scripting" by which you can have AppleScript (placed in an Automator service or workflow or just as a "standalone" AppleScript) do the equivalent of clicking menu items and issuing keyboard commands like command-v and so forth.
That can be convenient as far as it goes. You can attach the script to a keyboard shortcut and use it, for example, to insert the current date in a cell (something the designers forgot to include as a menu pick in the current version).
But Numbers 3.0 doesn't have AppleScript support like the old version, where you could get the values from specific cells, do things with them in a macro-like script as powerful as you want to make it, and "push" the results to specified cells.
Would be nice if they brought that functionality back.

  • Does the latest version of Numbers have anything like Excel's goal seek?

Does the latest version of Numbers have anything like Excel's goal seek?  I frequently use goal seek to solve non-algebraic equasions for an unknown.  Thanks.

I went through the installation where the bar shows the percentages downloaded and installed. Once it shows 100% it asks me to click Finish. I do. Then I go to yahoo to check and it continues to show that the plugin is missing and that I need to download Adobe Flash which I thought that I just did. Am I missing something in terms of installing??
