Bug in Zen Mi

Ok, to be able to recreate this bug, you'll need to have an artist with at least 2 different albums.
(I'm using firmware version 2.00.2)
I went to "Random Play All", and when the Zen played a song by Metallica, it got me in the mood to listen to one of their albums, so I tapped the options button and selected "Lookup Artist", which, if I'm not mistaken, should take me to a screen equivalent to going to "Music Library > Artists > Metalica", but instead, it would only show the album that contained the song the Zen was currently playing.
So, the option should be renamed to "Lookup Album" or make it really direct me to the page of the artist, containing all of their albums, not just the one that's currently playing. :smileyindifferent:
Right?

Yes, you are not the only ones. I think it with all players. I haven't noticed it as I have it for two days already and I loaded it with lot of music just today. The look up artist doesn't funktion ok. You should get all the albums or tracks of an artist, but you get the album in which the played song is.
I do not like this.

  • Bugs in ZEN Mozaic EZ300 (firmware 1.04.02)

Creative ZEN Mozaic EZ300 (firmware .04.02) BUG REPORT:
Bookmarks remembers only current track and position within it. Current list of tracks and position of current track within this list are ignored.
So opening of bookmark opens the list of one track (without previous and next tracks)
Pause + Shutdown doesn't remember position within the track.
So next turning on displays last track in the initial position.
(though Shutdown during playback works correctly)
My previous players was ZEN Nano Plus and ZEN Stone Plus with built-in speaker. I really enjoys them.
I have bought EZ300 thinking it will be even better.
Though impossibility of folder's navigation disappointment me deeply.
The last advantage of EZ300 was bookmarks. But they appears buggy... :-(

    Hi Severov,
. Bookmark, Pause + Shutdown issue
I have a test unit with me and it is behaving as you described. I wouldn't call it a bug but rather your feedback of the product. I am sorry but I will not be able to comment on why certain features work this way or why has it changed etc.

I am sorry but we are unable to comment about?this mainly because such information is not available to us.

  • Some bugs in Zen MX

I bought the Zen Mx in January of this year. My player contains the last firmware version published: .02.04.
The Zen Mx don?t play? music folders correctly. I maked some music? folder in the Music Imported folder. The playing mode is normal.
I power/turn on my player, go to Music menu and press over Music Imported menu, then Zen MX shows me the music folders than I maked. I press play directly over the name of any music folder. Start to play the first track of this folder. when this first track finish, Zen Mx don?t go to the next track repeat this first song but the screen shows than playing the next track. After Zen Mx will go to next track but the screen ever shows than it playing correctly, it is false because the player is playing the before track than the screen shows. Here, the player never plays the last track.
If after push Next Track button, the player will go to the next track than the screen shows. For example: If the player is playing the 2nd track and the screen show than it playing 3rd track, pushing Next Track the player will go to 4th track. In this example,? the player will play the 4th tracks and the screen shows correctly? than the 4th tracks is playing. After, the player never will repeats any tracks.
If in the previous example, when the player is correctly play the track and the screen shows correctly the track number than playing in this moment; I push the locker or the player acti'ves automatic locker, the track than now playing will back to repeat once and the screen show incorrectly than te next track is playing.
This problems only happends when I push play directly over the music folder name. If I push intro/enter button over the music folder name the screen show tracks list than this folder contains. Everything works correctly, included the locker.
My player is configured in spanish language. When I go to Music Imported and press intro/enter, the display shows me the title of this screen in spanish correctly (M?sica Importada). But if I go into any of this music folders, Zen Mx shows me the track list than this folder contains and after push Back button to back to the main screen of Imported Music, the title of this main screen are ever now in english (Imported Music).
    Greetings.

I tested the problem of the Imported Music Main screen title with French and Italian and its happens the same.
    Greetings.

  • Bug Boot Zen Nano P

    Hi,
I have a Zen Nano Plus that won't start any more. When I plug it on USB I see the logo on the screen and I can acces to the memory.
I try the recovery mode, update the firmware (version .0.03): everything goes fine and it says that the update is done. But after updating the mp3 player doesn't still want to start and when I see the details I have :
    Current Version
    - BOOT manager 0.00.00
    - Host link .0.03
    - Player .0.03
    - Ressource Manager .0.03
    Upgrade Version :
    - BOOT manager 0.00.00
    - Host link .0.03
    - Player .0.03
    - Ressource Manager .0.03
Why the Boot manager did not update? Is it why my player doesn't want to start anymore?
    Thank you.

Is DapJukeBox still acti've? I get a foriegn language web page, or is that it's
Why doesn't Creative Labs deal with this?
This is crazy - I have a brand new ZEN NANo Plus, never even loaded a single song on it yet. Checked for updates and the update hoses my boot manager.

Please note this is a peer forum and Creative's Support staff do not guarantee a reply here. If your issue is urgent, you are within your warranty period and/or you do not get a fast reply here you should contact Creative Labs Technical Support.
To contact support click the Support > Contact Customer Support link on this page.
When contacting Creative Support by email it's important to note that you must reply to the autoresponse email you first receive, as detailed in the email itself. Also make sure to check any spam trap you have on your email system if you have not received a reply.
It's also important if you feel that you have a bug or defect with your product to register that issue directly with support. Don't rely on the forum to raise awareness of an issue.

    General
Where do I get the latest software, drivers and firmware?
Click the link Support > Downloads on this page.
In general, when installing on a new PC you need to download the driver, and some software to communicate with the player e.g. MediaSource, Media Explorer. For players using the v2.xx MTP/PlayForsure firmware drivers are not necessary, but you must have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 0 (this provides the MTP driver).
Important: Even though files are described as updates, none of the software requires a previous version to install. At worst they will prompt you to connect your player to verify you own a Creative product.
Note if you are downloading MediaSource make sure to download and install the relevant MediaSource plugin for your player. If MediaSource can't detect your player this is the first thing to check. For the v.xx PDE firmware the plugin is called the Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin for Creative MediaSource , and for the v2 MTP/PlayForSure firmware it's called Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices .

Have a read of my Nomad Primer, so called as Creative's MP3 player range tend to be prefixed with the word Nomad.

You can post it here (see the petitions listed in Section of this FAQ), email it to support, and/or add it to the public wishlist I host here by
I'm having connection problems with my player
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
What bit-rate should I encode my music at?
Ultimately it's down to your ears what bit-rate you prefer, and you should listen for yourself to determine it. If you ask on the forum you'll get many different opinions.
Make sure to look at the "MP3 vs. WMA" link below also.
How long should my battery last?
For the Zen and Nomad Jukebox players, to get some idea of how long your battery will last for a given bit-rate look at the battery curves thread. Ultimately battery life is dependent on how you use the player, make sure to follow the "why doesn't my battery last as long as expected?" link below.
How long does an RMA take?
Typically 2 weeks. But it might take a little longer, so don't start posting if it's 5 days.
I want to know how people feel about their Zen Micro/Touch/MuVo etc.
There's a long post titled Experience with your Creative player that has many posts from users about their players. Please search back for threads about specific players before starting a new thread.
Where can I buy online music or get legal downloads for my player?
    See this thread.
My tracks don't play at the correct speed e.g. they play too slowly, why?
Chances are they are encoded in an unsupported sampling frequency. The tracks will need to be re-encoded at a supported bit-rate and/or frequency with something like Creative's MediaSource Audio Converter or dbPowerAmp.
Can a Creative player work on an Apple Mac?
It isn't officially supported, but some kind folks out there have written freeware applications to get your Creative player working with Macs. XNJB provides support for the Zen players, and requires OS X 0.3 or 0.4 (check the site for full details). MuVoHelper solves some problems with getting the MuVo to work optimally. The iTunes Zen plugin should support all Zen players. Note if the link to the plugin is broken just Google "iTunes Zen plugin" to find other sources. Also note there's no guarantee that these programs will work with the Mac, so if you have issues you should address your problems to the developer(s) of the relevant program.
Can a Creative player work on Linux?
Again it isn't officially supported, but again some kinds folks out there have written freeware applications to get your Creative player working. There's the Gnomad2 project. And don't forget the Linux forum at Nomadness.net if you are still having problems.
    Tag Based Players
This section covers the players that use a hard disk and work using tags e.g. Zen Xtra, Touch, Micro, Sleek.
My Zen is not behaving properly, won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?
If the Zen is not starting properly or not behaving correctly, first try to reset it. To reset all players except for the Zen Micro there is a small switch on the side of the player typically, that you should press using something like a bent paper clip. Don't use anything sharp. To reset the Zen Micro simply remove the battery and replace it.
If this doesn't work then access rescue mode, and try running a disk cleanup.
Next you should try reloading the firmware/OS, but beware if you are having connection problems also with your PC you may end up with a player that has no firmware and cannot be reloaded.
The last resort is to format the player. This will erase the contents from the player, including the content that ships with the player.
If none of these resolve the problem and you are under warranty you should get in contact with support to arrange replacement of the player.
If you aren't under warranty Creative will still repair the player, which you can arrange by contacting support.
How do I do a Disk Cleanup and/or access Rescue/Recovery Mode?
Refer to the sticky Rescue Mode thread. Disk Cleanup is accessed from this. Note that the MuVo players (with the exclusion of the MuVo? players) do not have Rescue Mode.
How long should a Disk Cleanup take?
It should only take a few minutes, and no longer than 30 minutes. Anything longer than this and there is a problem with the player and you need to contact Creative Support.
How long should a format take?
Only a few seconds. Anything more than a minute and there is a problem with the player and you need to contact Creative Support.
Although I can get into Rescue Mode, I can't select any option, or the options don't work?
If Rescue Mode is not working properly or commands can't be chosen the player is faulty. You need to contact Creative Support.
When are the Zen 20Gb/Neeon going to be released outside of the Asia Pacific region?
Due to popular request the Neeon is launched in the USA, but nowhere else for now. If you want the Neeon then contact your regions Customer Services to request it.
The Zen 20Gb is available from some shops in the USA and Europe e.g. Cambridge Soundworks, and Amazon.co.uk.
Is there a known issue with the Zen Micro headphone socket?
Creative Support have neither confirmed nor denied it officially. Some users have posted purported emails from Creative on the forum saying that the socket has been reinforced, but these have not been confirmed by Creative Support either. The exact incidence of the problem is unknown, but newer players seem to suffer less from it.
Should I buy the Zen Micro or Touch etc. and what colour should it be?
We can't tell you what player to get, or what colour it should be. Look at your collection size and the features of the player (see Nomadworld.com for the product pages) and decide yourself based on this.
Why does my Zen Micro battery drain so quickly?
The standby time (24 hours from turn-off) for the Zen Micro seems to use a lot more power than previous Zens. Creative have released both v (..0+) and v2 (2.20.05+) firmware that reduces the standby time to 4 hours. Make sure to update to one of these if you have a draining problem.
Also see JazzMC's detailed page on this problem.
Why is my Zen Micro/Touch Touchpad so sensiti've and/or difficult to use?
The Touchpads take some time to get used to.

  • Creative Mods PLZ READ T

Ok I know you probably read this alot but what is happening with the zen touch firmware. It was ment to be out Q. then you said Q2 and its now Q3 and its still not here. What are you playing at if u can reel out micro firmware just like that then im sure in 7 months you can make a bug free zen touch firmware packed with features. (You've more than enough time for that). I have created this topic so other zen touch owners can see the progress of the release of this firmware. Any constucti've reply is welcomed.

I too do NOT wish to be associated with any 'bashing or flaming' but would also really like to know a little more please.... why? well this is why..
I joined Napster to go and now pay my ?5 a month in the UK. I joinded To Go so I could down load and refill my MP3 player as many times as I wished too LEGALLY which is a really good way to enjoy lots of music LEGALLY.
I saw their list of players that were ok to use and then more than would be ok soon after a software upgrade.
Great I thought, I wanted to go for one of Creative best players the 20 gig Touch which will be upgradeable soon so I can use it with Napster to go, no point in getting a small 5 gig player, we all know how fast space gets used up these days! so I'll get the 20 gig Touch. I eagerly rushed out and bought myself a Zen Touch for a fairly large amount of money.
When I got it I came here to pick up any firmware upgrades etc to make sure I was ready to go. That's when I picked up on this topic on the forum (boy I wished I read it before) I am really down hearted to read all the 'problems' about the firmware upgrade with the Touch, especially as there is no information forth coming really... and more so beacuse I'm now paying for a Napster service I cannot use....
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.... I just hope that we can get this upgrade soon, please Creative, thanks guys.

  • Bug in contacts? (Zen Mic

    Hi!
I was looking for a way to save some lyrics in my Zen Micro, and I thought that would be a good idea to save them in the "Notes" area of the contact. You know, Start > Run > wab.exe, create a new contact, and in the "Other" tab, you write whatever you want in the "Notes" box. Then you can sync the contacts with Creative MediaSource.
But (there's always a but) the Zen Micro does something wrong, and from a point of the lyrics it shows lots of "\n", characters that look like boxes, and some other rubbish.
For example, I tried to copy the lyrics of "Vertigo", that song of U2 ( http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/u2/vertigo.html ) but from "But you give me something" it shows those strange characters. Could somebody else confirm this? Could this be a bug?
I know that using Contacts to store lyrics is a bit weird, but what do you want? I can't store text notes directly in my Zen Micro! ... *hint* *hint* Creative? Are you there?
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
I'm editing to correct someting. For synchronising the Zen Micro I use the option "Sync music and Outlook data between PC and the device" (or something like that, it's in Spanish) in the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I guess it's the same.Message Edited by melado on 02-06-2005 :53 PM

Following your advices (thanks!), I wrote some text in the "Other" box of a contact, but the same thing happened. The text appears correctly until a part, after there it appears with \ and strange things, and it doesn't appear complete.
Maybe I could try with "Tasks"... but I don't have Outlook
    Any idea?
Btw, I have seen that program in the forums of Nomadness.net, but I don't think it's a solution.

  • Bug Found and Fix Found Creative ZEN XFI Style 32 Gig

9Bug Found and Fix Found> Creative ZEN XFI Style 32 Gig?Hello I was having problems getting my MP3 TAGS to show up on a number of my MP3's.
Whenever I loaded my files onto my ZEN it would show up as a Voice under Recordings.
And the file name would be "MIC and the date file created etc..."
I noticed that these files where all starting with the letters MIC at the front of the filename...
    For instance: Michael_Jackson_Thriller.mp3?? or? Michael_W_Smith_Let_it_rain.mp3
and so on and so on... ANY file that started with the letters M I C? would be thrown in as a voice recorded file and the TAG would not operate.
I have the latest Firmware on my MP3 Player.
The fix was just to change the file name so it did not start with MIC... so i went and switched Michael Jackson to M.Jackson and also switched Michael W Smith to M W smith.
The tag showed up appropriately and I have had no problems since.
It would be nice if there was another Firmware update so that MP3's could start with the letters MIC also I was hoping to bring awareness to this situation for other users.

=Re: Bug Found and Fix Found> Creative ZEN XFI Style 32 Gig?I did three methods of?loading the files.
I used Windows Media Player to sync the files.
I used Creative Central to transfer the files.
These two methods produced results where the file starting with MIC turned into a voice recordings.
I also had problems just copying and pasting the files (using windows explorer).
I have not had any problems with any other file. I normally use MP3Tag to tag my files.
However i even tried using Windows Media to tag the file and I even tried using Creative Central to tag the files.
I tried as many work arounds as possible. But once i renamed the file it worked.

  • Zen Micro Photo bugs need to be worked out - firmware update comi

    Hi,
I've had my Zen Micro Photo 8gb for a month & have discovered some interesting quirks: first, I don't believe mine is defecti've, though I've had problems. I have encountered freezing on both the "Zen Microphoto" logo and "rebuilding library" screen; I scoured this forum and the Knowledge Base for answers, trying all that seemed applicable?- I tried disk cleanup and reboot (leading to rebuilding library freezes), reformats & carefully reloading the latest firmware?a couple of times. I've drawn some conclusions:?) Mediasource software is not working for me; when I switched to using only Windows Media , most problems went away.2) For whatever reason, "rebuilding library" can only be accomplished while my Zen is connected to the computer - should this be the case?3) It seems like the times my screen freezes on the "Zen Microphoto" logo I may have held the "on" switch to the side a little longer than necessary; I'm wondering if this is happening because I'm holding the switch on a little too long?Anyway, I love the size, look and sound of this player, so I hope to keep using it. NOTE: can anyone from CREATIVE tell me if there will be future firmware updates? Thanks

  • BUG: 1000+ track transfers (Zen Xt

<i>Note:</i> This isn't so much a bug report as a tip to other users. The problem here is just an annoyance that can get in the way if you restore a complete backup of your player, or transfer a ton of songs at once.
I believe this bug lies either in the Zen Xtra's firmware, the Zen Xtra driver or the Zen MediaSource plugin. (I'm using the latest non-PlaysForSure firmware and MediaSource 3.30.2 with Jukebox 2/3/Zen plugin 2.00.9.)
When I try to transfer more than 000 tracks from my PC to my Zen Xtra, the first 000 transfer OK. Then it displays the transfer of file #00 at 0% for about 5 seconds, then informs me that there was an error creating the file and tells me to reboot my player. All subsequent files fail after 5 seconds each.
This can be somewhat irritating since you can't cancel a transfer in MediaSource from the error dialog, and it is rather unresponsi've when it's sitting at 0% on the current file.
<i>Workaround:</i> Break really big transfers to your player into blocks on 000 tracks. Playlists might make management of these blocks easier. (This ONLY applies to tranferring TO your player. I was able to transfer over 000 songs FROM the player to do a backup without this problem happening.)

    Dgschubert,
Thank you for your observations. I forwarding them to our product development teams.

    - if I deactivate the alarm and just wait, the snooze function seems to be activated automatically - that's good - but then the snooze function will not work max. 3 times as if snooze has been chosen manually, but only 2 times (max) - why?
    - if headphones are plugged (and the player is off) the alarm will be played through the internal speaker - that's good! But if I then choose Snooze, the player will not play the alarm any more through the internal speaker but the headphones... why?
Just if I switch the player off after choosing snooze, the it will be turned on automatically again and the alarm will be played throught the speaker. Why not always through the external speaker? (or both external and headphones)
All this is not very satisfying, as I have been looking for a mp3-player with alarm and sleep-timer (b/c that are the functions I use almost 00% of the time) and the alarm & snooze does not work as one would expect... :-(
I really hope the "bugs" can be fixed soon...
    Thanks a lot! pacman2

  • Zen bug reports... where to submit? Firmware & Media Explorer bugs

There seem to be two rather annoying bugs (actually, three, but the firmware ones are closely related) - there should be a separate forum for bug submission...
The firmware bugs are related to the embedded graphics and are present in the updated firmware, too.
The first bug: embedding a graphic in an MP3 properly, with tested tools such as ID3Tagger, works fine in any player supporting the image display - but Zen will *not* display the graphic unless the header's "Album" field is filled, too. If the "Album" field is empty in ID3v2 (or v), Zen will never display the graphic.
The second bug seems related to this: if the "Album" field has the same value in more than one file in the same directory (or playlist), Zen will only use the first indexed graphic for all those files. As a result, right now I have 0 various Star Wars themes in my Zen, each file with a different graphic embedded in it - and yet Zen shows the same graphics in all of them.
The third bug is in the Media Explorer: every time the player is plugged, CTPlyLsU.exe loads. But very often, it will load as a new process each time - and it will NOT be terminated after the player is disconnected, but it will stay in the memory! When that happens, every time the player is detected again, a new instance of the process will be started and used. I plugged the player in 0 times yesterday, and I had 0 instances of that process devouring the resources.

Strange, CTPlyLsU.exe is on my system but based on the task manager it doesn't load at all when the player is connected and everything works fine.Message Edited by jpalm on 0-30-200709:6 AM

  • ZEN MICRO: "Lookup Artist" bug in firmware 1.01

I bought my Zen Micro on 4 Dec, the Limited edition with 2nd battery. Black. Installed firmware was .00.6 (if memory serves).
Now that I upgraded to the latest to the newest firmware ZenMicro_PCFW_US__0_03_PDE.exe I believe I'm noticing the following bug:
Whenever I'm on a track (e.g. in "Now Playing", Selected Music, ...) and use the "Options>Lookup Artist" function, the only album displayed, is the album of the track that was acti've. I believe that before the firmware upgrade, this would display ALL the albums for the artist of the selected track.
I can't revert to previous firmware, to confirm this. Anyhow, this behaviour, if not a regression bug, is still a bug in that it's not expected behaviour.
Anyone able to confirm that under firmware .00.6 this works differently?
Anyone able to confirm that under firmware .0.03, this function works as I described above?
I'm intending to send this to Creative Support soon.
I'd like to add that I really enjoy my Micro otherwise. (Well, with the exception of the less than promised battery life, but I don't want battery life to become the topic of this thread).
    # crossposted also on European forum.

I can't really comment on any firmware other then 2.00.2 because I updated to that ver immediately after getting the micro.
On mine, if I'm in the "Now Playing" screen on a song and I try "Lookup Artist", I get a blank screen with just the artists name at the top. If I then choose "View All" from menu, I get a blank screen with just the artists name also (unlike if I were to go from the main menu/music library/artists/artist name/view all/ which would give me a list of all song by that artist. I'm assuming it should work the same way irregardless of if I'm doing it from "Now Playing" or the "Music Library".
I also found if you hit "Back" from the "Lookup Artist" screen the Zen takes you too the main menu instead of back to the "Now Playing" screen where you were. However, if you are on "Now Playing" and choose "View Details" then "Lookup Artist" and hit "Back" it will return to "Now Playing" where it should.
Another bug I found was if I add "Random Play All" to the main menu (or use if through Music Library/DJ/Random Play All) the Zen will come up with a message "No Tracks In Music Library" and erase whatever current playlist I have in memory instead of random playing all tracks on the Zen.
A couple things I should mention that may help. My Mp3s have had all of their ver 2 - ID3 tags removed so there is no ver 2 information in them. All my Mp3s have ver - ID3 tags with only Artist, Title, and Genre information filled out (all other fields are blank). So I'm assuming the blank album field is the reason I never see anything listed under Albums (it would be HELLA nice if the Zen defaulted to showing track names under an artist instead of albums so you didn't have to then select "menu/view" all to see all song titles, or at least add an option to view track or albums by default in System/Player Setting)! This would ROCK!

  • Is there a known bug with the zen vision;m and usb internet adapt

i bought the zen m yesterday. i've down loaded it onto my pc.
audible wont sync to it. the creative firmware updater wont update it keeps saying its not connected.
Windows media player synced to it ( the only thing thats gone right so far lol )
and worst of all every time i plug in the unit via usb. if i unplug the unit my netgear usb WPNT2 stops recieving all 802. signals until the driver explodes taking the system down with it. or i manual reboot.
    whats going on?
i'm thinking i should have gotten a Zune, and if i can't resolve this i'm going to have to take this back.
i put the zen on my laptop and xbox 360 and it works fine. it runs a pcmcia adaptor.
my desktop is a media center rollup 2 everything up todate. my netgear drivers are uptodate. i dont know whats going on here.Message Edited by paladin238 on 2-02-200604:24 PM

it's not connected on a hub.
update audible still can't activate the zen, and it still keeps crashing the wireless adaptor, which inturns causes a stop error and crashes the system. i can't win =/
