Illustrator hangs when saving .ai files with linked or embedded images

Hi,
Currently I have a huge problem with Adobe Illustrator. When I place an image file inside an Illustrator document, the program freezes for about 45 seconds when saving. In the beginning I though it was just because my image file was too big, but that wasn't the case.
To test what's going on I created a new document, drew a few lines and saved. No problem, Illustrator saved immediately. Then I placed a bigger image and suddenly Illustrator hang when saving. I repeated this with a very small GIF of just a few kB and again, Illustrator hang for nearly a minute when saving the image. I tried embedding the image instead of linking it, but I still got the same results.
Then I turned of the visibility of the image object by clicking on the little eye symbol in front of the image object and suddenly Illustrator was able to save quickly again. The next thing I wanted to try was turning off compression and PDF compatibility, but then I noticed that Illustrator is actually hanging BEFORE writing the file to disk. When I hit "Save as" Illustrator asked me where to save the new file and then after clicking "Save" it hang (showing "(Not Responding)" in the title bar). About 45 seconds later the save options dialog came up and when I clicked "OK" it saved the file immediately.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? I'm using Illustrator CS5 on Windows 7 x64. The computer is a notebook with 8GB RAM and a switchable graphics card. I tried this on both the integrated Intel graphics unit and on the much more powerful AMD chip. The hard driver I'm saving to is the local hard drive (no network drive etc.).
This is a more or less fresh installation (I haven't used Illustrator before on this notebook) and I can't remember that I had the same problem on my workstation where I used it inside a virtual machine (which doesn't exist anymore).

Yeah, I know that changing the mode results in different colors. I just switched back and forth to check out what's going on.
For CMYK I'm using ECI profiles which are common in Europe and for RGB the normal Adobe RGB 1998 profile. The profiles are synced between all Creative Suite products. I tried sRGB and some of the default profiles which shipped with CS5 but it produces the same result. I also deleted my whole Illustrator profile but without success.
My graphics card doesn't have any updates. But it would be very unlikely anyway that both drivers for both cards had the same issue. If it has something to do with my graphics cards it's more likely the switchable graphics in general.

JDeveloper hangs when publishing the PL/SQL pkg as web service

E90 Hanging when typing at length with backlight o...

When typing using the backlight on either Live Messenger, or writing a document on Word or a long message, the device completely freezes and blacks out, with both screens, keypads being unresponsive. I have to take the battery out and put it back in to make it work again.
This has only ever happened when I'm typing with the backlight on, and for a prolonged period. Backlight function is pretty much useless right now. Background apps are not the issue, and neither is any other function.

What do you mean by backlight ? Backlight of the outer screen, of the inside screen or of the keyboard ?
Anyway, it sounds like a software or hardware problem, not a normal behavoiur. I never enocuntered anything like this in almost 3 years.
You can make a hard reset *#7370# to wipe out everything (make a backup in advance !) and see if it solves the problem. Otherwise, you might want to search for a replacement for E90....

Latest Reader Hangs when opening any pdf with 'tools' selected

Any pdf will hang when opened in the latest Acrobat Reader (Either from file or open Acrobar Reader first.)
However if I first open Reader and turn off the tools (Tools top right) I can then open any pdf without problems.
Users who want to have the tools bar open are querying this.
Can anyone help.

JDeveloper Hangs when debugging JPDA on Solaris

Has anyone been able to JPDA debug on the Solaris platform? My system hangs when a break point is encountered.

I need more info so I can help:
What JDK do you have?
What VM are you using when you debug? (Project Settings Dialog, Runner panel, Virtual Machine combobox).
Can you copy the java command from the debugger log window and paste it into your reply here?

BUG: Raptor hangs when attempting to regenerate DDL

Hello there,
I'm using Raptor with 8i, so I know it's not officially supported on this database. However, it might be that the bug I'm about to describe would occur when connected to 9i or 10g aswell.
Here is what I do:
1. Open a package file for editing (Ctrl-O).
2. In the object browser in the left-hand pane, I select a table. I then select the "SQL" tab showing in the right-hand pane. Raptor then successfully generates the DDL for the table.
3. I click on the tab showing the open file containing my package to do a text search within my code. Everything is okay so far.
4. I click back on the table tab in the right-hand pane/work area. A "Generating DDL" message box appears. Raptor then freezes completely.
Is this a known bug, or am I the first to encounter it?

DDL generation is very slow but I tested this against a supported db and it took quite a while to gen the ddl the second time (actually, just as long as it did the first time) but did not freeze.

In the JAG Developer log the last step is : JAG-INFO-00000 [ MenuAdminService ] Validation application definition started.

I tried to use a different jdev_user_dir but that did not solve my problem.
Reinstalling JDeveloper did not solve my problem either.
Do you have any experiences like this?

I found something. In my model.jpx file I found the folowing tag multiple times (about 3500 times):

JSP hanging when 9i database invoked through JSP

Hi
I have just installed Oracle 9i DB on Win 2000 server. When I try to invoke a SQL from a jsp on the application server on the same machine, it hangs.
The jsp is able to connect to the Oracle 8i database on a different machine. We are having classes13.zip in the classpath.
Has somebody faced this problem before? Pl. help me out

Following is the file that we are using to connect to the database. The following file is invoked from the command prompt and it takes very long (8 minutes on the same machine) to connect to Oracle 9i. With JSP (tested on JRun and Oracle9iAS), we are never able to connect. The JSP and java file from command prompt both give instantaneous results even from a remote database if the DB is Oracle 8i.

Bug Report - Hang when run query and then click on connection

SQL Developer hangs if you run a query in a SQL Worksheet, then while it's still running, right-click on the connection in the Connections window. It will come back again once the query finishes, but usually you want to open another sql worksheet while the query is still running so you can do other things.
I find the whole screen refresh very buggy, it's probably related to using Swing. I have to restart SQL Developer about once an hour.

That's the way sqldev works: almost every action requires querying the connection. Since the connection is busy with your query, it just hangs there until finished.
Lots of users complained about this, and some rudimental checks where put in place to pop up a "connection busy" dialog instead, but you will only see that in a few situations. Really, this needs a lot of work to filter out unnecessary queries. If other commercial products can, so can sqldev...
There's also an accepted feature request for automatically opening more connections when necessary (on the SQL Developer Exchange), so you can vote and add comments if you want to.

Bug or error when handling leap years with WDS/DS

Hi all,
I discovered a difference in outcome with Build and Debug (without screens) and Build and Debug with Web Determinations or Determinations Server when calculating days within leap years.
I use the function DayDifferenceInclusive to calculate the amount of days in an insurance period.
the amount of days of the insurance period = DayDifferenceInclusive(the start date of the insurance, the end date of the insurance)
With the regression tester or Build and Debug (without screens) I get the following outcome for the following input:
*93 = DayDifferenceInclusive(02-29-2008, 05-31-2008)*
When we use Web Determinations or Determinations Server we get the value of *92* for the exact same input data when it should be 93.
Is this a bug in the java code? How can we fix this or is there a work around for it?
We're in the middle of System Integration Testing for a huge project so help is much appreciated!

thanks for that - and it looks like in the Netherlands daylight savings started on the 30th of March 2008, which as far as I know is the trigger for this error.
I have reproduced the issue against 10.1 using the period 01 October 2010 to 30 October 2010, which contains the date that daylight saving started in Australia.
As for ways to work around the issue, I can offer 3:
* wait for 10.2 - it's in beta at the moment (though given your opening comments, this might not be an option for you)
* set your server locale to one that doesn't have DST
* work around the issue in rules:
Firstly, the issue is that the shipping version fails because it doesn't take into account that one of the days is shorter than the standard 24 hours.
The trick is to replace the DayDifference function with the HourDifference function and round to the nearest number of days.
So given a rule that looks like:
the result = DayDifference(date one, date two)
it can be rewritten as:
The result = round(HourDifference(date one at 00:00:00, date two at 00:00:00) / 24, 0)
* the whole "at 00:00:00" is necessary because HourDifference works on datetimes, not dates.

Sustain hanging when using midi source with multilayered sustain

when using the rp800 digital piano as midi source for a software instrument, the sustain hangs (remains on) as soon as i have depressed the sustain pedal and released it.
i think it might have to do with that the rp800 is sending several signals after how much the pedal is depressed (several degrees of sustain) which confuses garageband so when you release the pedal, garageband seems to believe the pedal is still depressed.
i've tried to see if the rp800 could be configured to send only on/off sustain but no can do as far as i can see.
anyone else had similar problem and found a workaround for it?

That sounds strange for a sustain pedal, which usually sends on/off only. Are you sure the pedal is plugged into the right jack? Are you sure it's not defective? Can you do a hard reset of the keyboard (which sometimes gets misbehaving controllers back in line)?
A problem I'm more familiar with is the sustain being reversed if a keyboard is turned on with the pedal in the "on" position (which it then thinks is the "off" position) which can be fixed by just turning the unit off and on again with the pedal up.
If none of that works - and no one here can think of anything else - I'd check with rp800 tech support or see if they have a forum.

After the last OS update Itune hangs when trying to synchronise with IPAD or Iphone

After the lst Operating system update and the last Itune update, I cannot synchronize my IPAD or IPHONE.Itune hangs.

I have a 5230. I have had this problem (or at least, a very similar one) since I successfully added a very large amount of places into the "locations". Following doing that, I now get a message that synchronisation was unsuccessful and it stops. It doesn't hang the software (Ovi Maps 3.04) but it does fail to synchronise.
I've tried swapping to another SD card with an alternate installation of Ovi Maps, I've tried synchronising with a different user account, and I've tried deleting and recreating my user account. I still get the same message. I've also recently updated the firmware to the latest version and still have the same problem.
I haven't done a factory reset of my phone as its a relatively minor issue which I can live with, but it is annoying and I haven't found a solution.

Ostringstream 10; hangs when compiled and build with -mt option.

I've written a very simple program to test the use of the stl class ostringstream. The program write an integer to the ostringstream object. In a multithreaded environment (compiled and build with the -mt option), that operation hangs and never returns, whilst it works fine if the program is compiled and build without the -mt option.
Here is the program :
