BUG: NEWLINE IN CAPTION CAUSES EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP NOT TO WORK

OSX 10.5.4
Lightroom 2.0
CS3 10.0.1
Put a newline character in the Caption field. Like
Barrio District
Tucson, Arizona
Then "Edit in Photoshop", Photoshop will fire up, but no image appears. I take the newline out of the caption and WOW it works... Please fix. Promptly. Thanks.

So I cleared my ~/Library/Caches/Adobe Camera Raw folder and now it seems to work. Come to think of it, I also had recently changed the max cache size in LR2 preferences to 4GB, but at this point there are too many variables to whether either of those things played a role.
Sorry for the false alarm. Its like taking your car to mechanic for "that" sound ... that suddenly stops when you get to the garage :)

  • Edit in Photoshop not working from Lightroom

Hi, I've just upgraded to CS5 and LR 3.2. From within LR I can Edit in Photoshop Elements but the Edit in Photoshop doesn't work. Just get some screen refresh flashing around, "Loading" displays then nothing. Even with CS5 already up and running. Anyone got any good news for me?
    John

If configuring it as above didn't work, did you by chance, after doing the upgrade, remove an earlier adobe product?  This often happens when people upgrade by installing CS5 and LR, then uninstall CS4, for example.  You need to (easiest way) reinstall CS5 and LR should be able to see it.
There are other threads in the archive about it..
If, of course you haven't uninstalled anything, then there are other remedies in the archives as well (including a registry update method).
    In any event, good luck!
    Cheers!

  • Lightroom Edit in Photoshop (Not Found)... solutions didnt work...,

    Lightroom Version 2.2 (523352)
    Photoshop Elements 6
MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2GB
    Max OS X Version 10.5.6
I have Testversions of both products installed, and i intend to purchase both products. The only reason, that prevents me from sepending a few hundret Euro for this Softwaretools, is the following issue:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b61fd6
When i right-click on a photo in Lightroom, the "Edit In Adobe Photoshop" command in the context menu is grayed out. Also, the same command under the Photo menu is grayed out, and in the External Editor tab of the Preferences the upper box is labeled "Edit in Photoshop (Not Found)".
The Adobe Technote was not very helpfull. Both Solutions did not work.

    I removed the com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist file.
    I reinstalled Photoshop Elements.
    Has anybody else this Problem?
    Is there another Workarround?
I fiddeld about this a whole day... very frustating Cheers - Carsten

Thank you for your reply. Yes there is another Menue-Entry in the context-Menue "open in other Application..." but its also grayed out, even if i have installed PSE or not. That makes no Sense for me.
Hmm... Elements isnt PS, but adobe says that i can use PhotoshopElements and PS with Lightroom in similar manner:
    http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/LR/Edit+in+Photoshop+or+Photoshop+Elements+-+Basics
EDIT: I have also removed lightrooms plist file, with no effect.

  • "Edit in Photoshop" not working after 3.3 update...

It seems as though after updating to version 3.3, my "edit in photoshop" functionality has stopped working.  When I choose this option, Photoshop will open, but Lightroom does not bring up a dialog for exporting the photo, nor do I see a progress bar in lightroom for exporting of the photo as I used to.
I can (and have) create a user preset for exporting to accomplish the same functionality, but has anyone else experienced this problem?  is there a quick fix?

Sorry, I did not get it before that PS opens but no image.
Well, LR 3.3 and CS3 are not fully compatible indofar as CS3 cannot open a RAW image that has been rendered with the new ACR of LR3.
It was still possible under LR 3.2 - I've done it nuemerous times, but was told on this forum that this was only due to a "bug" that had been "fixed" in LR 3.3.
I now have CS5 but still have CS3 installed.
When I try to open a RAW image from LR 3.3 with CS3 all what happens is that LR renders a TIFF (my specification for Additional External Editor) but CS3 does not open.
So, maybe you have to bite the bullet and upgrade to CS5.
Or, export your Raw Image as a psd and then open it from CS3.

  • "Edit with Photoshop" isn't working any more

Guys, when I right-click an image and choose "Edit with Photoshop CS3" (edit Lightroom copy), it will create a copy but will not launch Photoshop. This creates a problem because other than exporting the file there is now no way of editing outside Lightroom.
How do I get this functionallity back?
(I think it started doing this when I applied the 1.1 patch...)
    OS is WinXP.

I am having similar symptoms using Lightroom 1.2 and CS2. I just updated to Lightroom 1.2 this week.
The first time I select edit in CS2 Photoshop launches fine and the image is transferred. If I attempt to edit a second image Lightroom hangs indefinitely on "Preparing the file for edit". Lightroom is dead at this point. Any attempted operation, including canceling the edit, just adds to the hanging stack. The only out I have found so far is to exit Lightroom, tell it to abandon all uncompleted tasks, and then restart it. At that point it will again work correctly to edit one image. It is the editing that causes the hanging, other functions performed after an edit do not (e.g. working in the develop module on a second image).
Lightroom 1.1 did not have this problem. The images I was working on were imported into Lightroom after I updated to 1.2. I am working under XP Pro and off of an internal (vs external) hard drive.

  • 'Edit in Photoshop' not working with RAW photos

I'm not sure when this started happening, but right now I can't open DNG or CR2 files (but JPEGs work fine) in photoshop either via the 'Edit in Photoshop' option, or the 'Merge to Panorama/HDR Pro in Photoshop' option. All it does is open the Photoshop application, but doesn't actually open the files I selected within Photoshop. I was able to add Photoshop CS5 in the 'Additional External Editor' section in the pref. pane which allowed me to open the RAW files in photoshop, but the Panorama and HDR Pro options still don't work. I tried reinstalling Photoshop, updated Camera Raw (and the rest of Adobe's products I have installed) to the latest version, reinstalling Lightroom 3.0, upgrading again back to 3.2, deleting the plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/ for both Lightroom and Photoshop, nothings worked. I'm running on a Mac so the registry hacks I've seen while googling aren't going to fix this issue. Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris Lucas

Just came across this, which just worked for me (on a Mac):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401629.html
Don't know why it took me so long to come across it, but I just successfully open a CR2 file in Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 3.

  • Images edited in Photoshop not showing up correctly in Lightroom after saving

    Hi,
I recvently got Adobe cloud and upgraded from Lightroom 3 to 4.  Since the upgrade I have been having issues with Lightroom not correctly displaying images edited in Photoshop.  Instead of the photoshop image it creates a new jpeg and displays that in the library.  the PSD does not get loaded into the library.
I am taking a jpeg from my library and shoosing the edit in Photoshop function.  I am selecting edit a copy, but have tried it with original and with edit a copy with lightroom adjustments as well with the same results.
In Photoshop I am duplicating the base layer, upscaling the image, running some filters, adding dsome adjustment layers.
I save the image in Photoshop format back to the original folder where the initial jpeg was in the Lightroom library.  I save it with maximize compatibility on.
When I go back to Lightroom, the catalog displays two files, the initial jpeg and an identical copy to it, NOT the new photoshop file with alterations.  If I go to the folder the images are housed in in Finder using the show in Finder command both images link to the same original jpeg.  The photoshop edited file is there in the folder but does not show up in Lightroom unless I drag and drop it.
I have turned off all filters and made sure the sort is sorting by name.  The image does not automatically show up in Lightroom after editing.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help!
PS. I did search the topic and there are threads from 2007 and lightroom 2 but their solution was to start from scratch essentially and I have a carefully tagged, starred, and labeled catalog of 30,000+ images and really don't want to do that

Images that are edited in Photoshop will be displayed automatically in Lr only when the image-file saved in Photoshop is the same as the one opened from Lr.
You say you open a JPG from Lr, then edit it in PS by - among other things - adding some layers. Layers are not supported in the JPG-format so you have to either save it as a psd or as a jpg-copy.
In either case this is not the same image file as the one opened in Lr, so it will have to be imported into Lr to show up. If you would flatten your image after editing in PS and then do a <save> to your JPG - not a <save as> - it will show up in Lr.
PS: the only exception is when you open a Raw image from Lr in PS and you save it in PS in the file format specified in Lr for external editing. The saved file will automatically show in LR.

  • Edit in Photoshop no longer works?

I have Lightroom 4.3 with Photoshop 13.1.2 and RAW 7.3 on Mac OS X 10.7.5
I had been using the edit in Photoshop CS6 command in LR to bring my pics into PS with no issues up until just recently, but all of a sudden it stopped working. If I right click an image in LR either from the library or develop module and choose edit in Photoshop CS6 it doesn't do anything. If I close PS and keep it closed, then choose the same command in LR it will start PS, open PS but that's it, it won't open my image. I'm scratching my head on this one.
I uninstalled LR by dragging it to the trash and reinstalled using Adobe Application Manager but that did not make a difference. I don't really want to reinstall PS, but is that the next step?
Does anybody have any advice on what to try? I've checked Adobe updater for anything new and I'm on all the latest.
It's crippled my workflow as I do as much in LR first then bring into PS, so I am having to use PS Camera RAW for now until I get this figured out.
    Thanks!

That's interesting and useful. Since Lightroom 3 (which is where I'm at) the changes to Camera Raw have become more important to keeping it in sync with Photoshop. I won't consider an upgrade to one without upgrading the other for that reason. Since it's a Mac and not Windows, which seems to need rebooted for most any change, I'm not sure about the reboot. The only thing I can see a Mac (aka Unix) reboot doing is killing an orphined process or resetting a path. It would be nice to know what fixed it but yes, it's much nicer to actually be using our electronic paper weights.
I didn't look back to see if you reinstalled Photoshop as mentioned but I did write that I think reinstalling software to fix it is just stupid, these aren't programs off a $10 shareware CD and a reinstall is strictly a guess with hope attached.

  • "Edit in Photoshop" no longer working

The "edit in Photoshop" function had been working fine in both Premiere and Encore CS5.5.  Then one day last week, using this function opened up Photoshop CS3 (I had never got around to uninstalling it after installing CS5.5).  I uninstalled Photoshop CS3, and now I can't send items to Photoshop from Premiere or Encore (the message I get says that Photoshop is not installed).  I tried reinstalling Photoshop CS5.5, but I received a number of error messages and the installation halted.  Anyone know if there is a way to manually tell Premiere and Encore how to connect to Photoshop?  Photoshop is still working fine on its own.
    J. D.

Colin implied something, but I'll make it explicit:
The Edit Original and related commands rely on the association within the operating system between a file type (designated by file-name extension) and an application. All that Premiere Pro is doing is sending a request to the operating system to open the file with whatever application the operating system thinks should open that kind of file. So the fix is to tell the operating system what application to use.

  • Lightroom won't open photoshop CS6.. Edit in Photoshop doesn't work

Lightrrom 4.2 can't use the right click, "edit in" photoshop CS6. I have tried edit, preferences, and created a Preset and pointed it to the CS6 photoshop.exe... still a no-go. Help!!!

I had this problem. You must run Lightroom as administrator - even if the account you are in has administrator priviliges.
Test if this is the problem you are having  by opening lightroom in administrator mode:
Open Windows explorer and navigate to where the lightroom.exe file is located.
    Usualy in  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4
Right click on lightroom.exe and select "Run as administrator" from the pop up menu.
Test by selecting a photo and selecting the "Edit in Adobe photoshop CS6" option.
If this works then close lightroom and go back to the "lightroom.exe" folder location,
rightclick on the lightroom.exe file but select "properties", then select the "compatibility" tab and
select "change settings for all users" button.
A box called  compatibility for all users should appear, at the bottom there is a checkbox "privilige level"
make sure the "run this program as administrator is checked".
    Close lightroom and reopen it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Edit in Photoshop not working

Edit in Photoshop seems to have stopped working for me, both Edit and Open as Smart Object do not work.  Photoshop starts but the file never opens.  I'm using Lightroom 5.5, Camera Raw 8.3 and Photoshop CS6.  I can of course export to a PS doc and open that.

I think the reason for this "edit-Problem" lies in the fact that you don't use PS CS5.
LR 3 does not work seamlessly with earlier versions of PS - I have worked with LR 3 and CS3 and some things worked and some didn't.
Since I have upgraded to CS 5, all is well.

PS: In case you wondered, I don't get a commission if you buy CS5.

I have Lightroom 4 and 5. I also have Photoshop cs6 and CC. Iv tried all combonations beetween the four. Lightroom has the option of edit in photoshop available, but does not do anything when i click on it. If photoshop is not running, the comand launches photoshop, but thats it. the immage wont open, and when photoshop us running in the background nothing at all happenes. this issue started last week, but to the best of my knowladge nothing on the computer has changed since before that.

  • Multiple Edits in Photoshop not saving into Lightroom?

In Lightroom 3 I was able to edit in Photoshop, save the file, then make another edit in photoshop and save it under a different name, and that file would also show up in Lightroom.
    For example;
in Lightroom I select "Image 1" and select edit in photoshop,
I edit this in photoshop and save.
    Lightroom shows "Image 1-edit"
I make another edit and select "Save As" and save it as "Image 1 Alternate".
"Image 1 Alternate" shows up in Lightroom next to "Image 1-edit"
This does not appear to be happening with Lightroom 4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
    Thanks for your replies

    Medic1542 wrote:
Additional "save as" edits are saved into Lightroom 3. It does not "break the link".
I'm assuming here that you are using Photoshop CS5.x and the current version of Camera Raw? If so, this is as expected...LR4 is using a pipeline that will match up to ACR 7 when it's released.
As it is now, LR4 must actually do the processing prior tp sending it to Photoshop. LR4 also has to save the file on disk prior to sending it to Photoshop.
If you were using ACR 7 in CS6 then ACR would actually be doing the processing and the behavior of this way of opening in Photoshop does NOT have to save the file prior to sending it to Photoshop. When ACR does the opening, you can do a Save or a Save As and Lightroom will know about those saves. Pretty LR4 doesn't know where the Save As file goes to and that's why it isn't showing up.
The two basic behaviors; LR synced with ACR and LR not synced with ACR goes back to version 2 (I think). It's a limitation in LR when LR and ACR aren't in sync.

  • Edit in Photoshop not found

LR 2.7.   I've upgraded to PS CS5 and "edit in Photoshop" is grayed out.  If I go into preferences it says edit in PS not found.  I was able to change other external editor to PS, but would like to use the standard ctrl-e edit in PS.  Thanks

  • Using Develop module on NEF stops 'Edit in Photoshop' command from working.

    Started with LR5 CS6 CR8.1
Suddenly when a raw image has been porcessed by the Develop Module the (ctrl-E) 'open in Photoshop' command does not work for that image. It works for images that have not been 'developed'.
I have deleted LR preferences several times.
    I have upgraded to LR5.2RC and CR8.2RC.
As far as I remember this catalog was new as LR5.
    Any ideas please?

Creating a new catalogue and importing the images does not resolve the problem.
The problem is only occuring on a few images from a particular collection.
Creating a virtual copy also will not edit in photoshop.
Creating a virtual copy and reseting the develop settings will allow the ctrl-e command to work.
However, manually re-applying the develop settings once again stops the ctrl-e command working.
