Bug or feature? - DHCP with static entries gives "wrong" DNS?

Server 10.4.8 G4 Xserve
Bonded interface (built-in and PCI, LACP)
DHCP, DNS and "more" running.
DHCP static IP entry (?) windows (and mac?) machines get their DNS IP from the server DNS setting from Network config, not from DHCP config ???
Machines with no static entry get the DNS IP from the DHCP server setting.
If you use 127.0.0.1 as the nameserver setting in Network config the static clients obviuosly can't lookup names. I had to use the "hostname IP" instead.

Hi,
I did not quiet understand what you mean. It looks completely visible for me.
You did not set scene width and height so maybe that is reason why it was not visible.
This code works for me:
package playground;
import javafx.application.Application;
import javafx.scene.Group;
import javafx.scene.Scene;
import javafx.scene.control.Label;
import javafx.scene.effect.Reflection;
import javafx.scene.layout.BorderPane;
import javafx.scene.text.Font;
import javafx.stage.Stage;
public class LayoutLabel extends Application {
    @Override
    public void start(Stage stage) throws Exception {
        stage.setTitle("Test JFX");
        stage.setScene(createScene());
        stage.setVisible(true);
    private Scene createScene() {
        Label label = new Label("Hello world!");
        label.setFont(new Font(24));
        Reflection reflection = new Reflection();
        reflection.setFraction(1.0);
        reflection.setBottomOpacity(1.0);
        reflection.setTopOffset(0.0);
        label.setEffect(reflection);
//        Group pane = new Group();
        BorderPane pane = new BorderPane();
        pane.setCenter(label);
//        pane.setTop(label);
//        pane.setBottom(label);
//        Pane pane = new StackPane();
//        Pane pane = new FlowPane();
//        Pane pane = new HBox();
//        pane.getChildren().add(label);
        Scene scene = new Scene(pane, 200,200); // changes to 200 200 maybe that is reason why it does not show
        return scene;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Application.launch(args);
}

  • Server 2008 DHCP is handing out the wrong DNS server.

    We have two new 2008 DC that handles, DNS, DHCP and WINS. Our DHCP scopes have been migrated to these servers. We are seeing some random issues where clients are using the new dhcp server but the old dns server information is listed for the some systems. We discover this by using network monitor on the old DC, DNS, DHCP server.  Once the client performs a ipconfig /renew, the problem is corrected. Any ideas?

    Hi BrianAuH20,
    Thank you for posting here.
    Based on your description, I understand that your Windows 2008 DHCP server hands out the wrong DNS server address.
    To troubleshoot this issue, please perform the follow steps to see whether the clients retrieve the right DNS server address.
    1.     Temporarily make the old DC, DNS, DHCP server offline.
    2.     Check the new 2008 DHCP server setting.
                          i.        In the DHCP console tree, under Scope [172.16.0.0] SS Scope, right-click Scope Options, and then click Configure Options.
                         ii.        On the Advanced tab, verify that Default User Class is selected next to User class.
                        iii.        Select the 006 DNS Servers check box, in IP Address, under Data entry, type DNS Server IP address, and then click Add.
                        iv.        Select the 015 DNS Domain Name check box, in String value, under Data entry, type your domain's FQDN name, and then click OK.
    3.     Restart the DHCP service.

  • DHCPv6 gives wrong DNS address

    DHCPv6 in the Time Capsule gives me wrong DNS address (same as GW). I can not figure out how to solve this problem. I am using the latest version 7.6.1.
    First relevant screen (IPv6 page):
    I configured everything statically. There is no problem in routing. I can ping everywhere. But there is problem in DNS.
    Second relevant screen (TCP/IP page):
    IPv4 is configured statically too. Time Capsule is giving IPv4 DNS 192.168.0.2 by DHCP correctly, but the IPv6 DNS is ignored.
    Thirth relevant screen (Windows box):
    This machine works as a Domain Controller and DNS so I need the DNS requests to end here. At IPv4 no problem. At IPv6 Time Capsule`s DHCPv6 is giving incorrect DNS address. It shoud give the one from line "IPv6 DNS Server(s)". Instead of it it gives the one from line "LAN IPv6 Address".
    Because of this I have to shut the whole IPv6 down otherwise clients report that they can not resolve.
    Thanks for any idea.

    We're new to supporting Thunderbird here, so apologies for not knowing the program well.
    I don't think this is a DNS problem, since the host name is completely different. Usually a DNS problem would be getting the wrong IP address for a host.
    If you do not have any accounts on the old server set up for send/receive, then there's no reason for Thunderbird to be connecting.
    I have a guess, based on experience with Microsoft email clients. If you open an old message that you have not read before (or move it out of your Inbox without reading it), and it is set to send a Read Receipt, this can trigger attempts to send the receipt out using the connection on which it was received.
    If you have Thunderbird set to never send a read receipt, or to prompt you, then this probably isn't the issue. You could check your receipt setting here:
    Tools > Options > Advanced > General

  • Another bug-or-feature question with the audio bin

    So, if you add a new file to the audio bin, the region appears all grey, meaning it's actually not used in the arrange. Fine. If you drop that region into the arrange, it will change to whatever colour the track is set to, and if you resize the region, this too will be reflected in the bin, BUT if you later delete the region from the arrange, it will NOT go back to all grey. And if fact, if you drop it back to the arrange, it will still keep the previous resizing.
    So it can be interpreted both ways:
    - It's a feature so you can always re-use that region as you left it.
    - It's a bug and it really should reflect the state of the region at all times.
    I think I'll go for the latter.
    Oh, and a really silly and minor graphic bug in the mixer.
    If you have enough channel strips and scroll horizontally with the mighty mouse ball, back and forth a few times, some of the EQ letters in the eq thumbnails move out of place (it seems like I have a lot of spare time...).

    ...and, what definitely is a bug, is the view->show region use count, give it a try and you'll see what I mean...

  • Registering with taken username gives wrong error message.

    When you register and you select a username that is already taken, it comes back as the answer being wrong, even though the answer is correct. I just thought I should let you guys know.

    rockstarrem wrote:On the forum. And I was a little vague with the answer thing, I meant the whole find the output of date etc etc, it says that is wrong when in reality the username is actually taken.
    You're sure the answer was correct on the time you got the message, I guess. Sorry, I have to check.
    Thanks for bringing this up, we'll check it out.
    EDIT: I just tried reregistering with a taken name, and I got two error messages, the first saying my answer was wrong and the second saying the username is already registered. Was that your experience?

  • Set Up Airport Extreme with Static IPs and DHCP same time

    I have Verizon Fios to my Business with 5 Static IP Address. One of them must be assigned to the Airport Extreme Base Station. I have 5 iMacs needing internet connection of which 2 need to use a static ip,( Filemaker Server and my Mac OS X Web Server). I also use 2 iPhones with a custom App accessing that FileMaker Server via the internet too. I want to set up my Airport Extreme Base Station to have those 2 iMacs connected with static ips , which must NEVER CHANGE, via an ethernet cable and all the rest wireless with WiFi. Do to the size of my building I also want another Airport Extreme or Express to just expand the range from the Base Station for the wireless connections only. Looking at the Airport Internet Settings I only see 3 options for Connection Sharing, "Share A Public IP Address", "Distribute a range of IP addresses", "Off (Bridge Mode)". I'm thinking I need to give 1 IP Address to the Base Station, 2 ip addresses to my servers, then 1 ip address to share for my wireless DHCP connections. The additional Airport set to Off(Bridge Mode) to expand the base station. Please advise on how I would set up that base station to do this.

    With respect to expanding the base stations range, in the Base stations Wireless Settings I would click to select "Allow this network to be extendeded". Then what settings would I need in the Additional Airport?
    Note: Both AirPorts would have to be 802.11n models in order for this to work. The additional AirPort would need to be configured to extend the Extreme. (ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless > Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network)
    Would that NEED to be connected to the base station via ethernet cable or will it pick up the base station wirelessly?
    Using the "extend" feature is intended to expand the wireless range of an AirPort with another wirelessly. You would not need to connect them by Ethernet. In this configuration, the additional AirPort would be in bridge mode and will pass through the IP information from the other base station's DHCP service.

  • 2008 r2 hyper-v guest with static IP always looses network connectivity after every restart - no problem with DHCP

    Hello,
    We are running 2008 R2 domain with one physical DC and other running in VM on Hyper-V host (2008 R2 Standard). The host has 4 NICs and is configured to use one physical NIC for itself (management) and the hyper-v guest is configured to use another dedicated/physical
    NIC (through microsoft virtual switch) just for itself.
    I noticed that after setting the hyper-v guest with a static IP address all works fine only until guest restart. When the guest boots up the IP address is still configured correctly in IPv4 properties, but there is no network connectivity at all and in fact
    the guest shows running APIPA config in ipconfig /all output. That situation continues until I remove the virtual NIC from hyper-v guest, remove the virtual switch from dedicated NIC on host and then reconfigure it (using same settings as they were). very
    annoying.
    For time being I switched the virtual DC (problematic hyper-v guest) to a DHCP IP and configured DHCP server (running on physical DC machine, not on hyper-v host) to store a reservation for the hyper-v guest so it always gets the same "static"
    IP configuration.
    Is there some kind of a problem/bug with using static IP on (2008 R2) hyper-v guests? is there a hotfix for static IP config in hyper-v guest environment?
    both 2008 R2 OSes (host and guest) are up to date with all updates (synced with Microsoft, not WSUS).

    OK, I'm not at the office now, but took my time to test out the restart scenarios on problematic virtual guest remotely.
    No dice, same as it was, everything works fine after guest has IP configured in DHCP mode (IP reservation of 192.168.1.5 for specific MAC address) and it doesn't work after restart in static IP mode (same address, works before restart of guest).
    I also took "arp -a" outputs at each step from host server and that was always saying there is only a single host (192.168.1.5 = VDC = problematic virtual guest) assigned to that IP address and always with same MAC, so that pretty much rules out
    ARP/MAC troubles and no issues with switches/routers getting spoofed. Problem is most likely with the virtual guest (WS2008R2) or within the host running same OS.
    Here are outputs:

    On Monday I will install more test guests in Hyper-V host (WS2008R2), in variety of flavors like 7x64, 8.1x64, ws2012r2, and see if they show similar problems with static IP configuration when utilizing a dedicated NIC from host server.
    Don't get me wrong, I can live with virtual DC running on DHCP IP reservation (which is based on MAC), because the virtual DC pretty much requires a physical PDC (hosting also DHCP in my network) to be present for safety reasons ... however I prefer a static
    IP configuration on all servers, hence my question and surprise why it doesn't work.

  • DHCP Lease process with static clients

    Hi ,
    I have a question regarding DHCP .
    Let us assume that DHCP server has been configured with ip address pool,  say for ex: 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.2.254.
    Now  assume that in the LAN network we have 3 clients which have got the  DHCP addresses from the above pool say from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.4.
    Now  I will add one more client with static ip address from the above pool say IP: 192.168.1.5.
    Now if I add one more DHCP client, in the above LAN network, will the DHCP server come to know that there is already static client with IP address 192.168.1.5 is exist? and for the newly added client, will it give the same static ip address 192.168.1.5 or will give the next available IP address?
    Basically I want to understand that whether DHCP server will have idea of static clients?

    Hi,
    you can do this creating more than one dhcp server on your router, and you can provide the IP address from the different dhcp servers through assigning ip address from the blog to the specific interface in the router.
      regarding the static IP address that have been assigned to a host in your network, the dhcp try to lease the same IP address to another hosts in the network, but once it detected that this IP address is conflected the dhcp server remove this IP address and assign the next IP to the host.
    please let me know if this is not cleare.
    regards,

  • Afp sharing bug with static IP ? cannot connect to shared folder via wireless router

    Does anyone ever try this ?
    i got 2 macs (imac snow leopard 6.6 and macbookpro leopard 10.5.8). connect to a wireless router using UTP cable and set using static ip , connection  is ok, ping is ok, ftp between two mac is ok, browse the internet is ok. But i got on problem , i can't connect to shared folder. Error : 'connection failed' . i can see the other mac's icon on the shared section in finder, but i can't connect to it. The problem is fixed if --> The only way  i can connect to shared folder is if i changed the ip from static to dhcp. Or if i want to keep my static ip, i have to connect mac to mac (using crosscable or airport) without the router , then the sharing folder will work fine.  Anyone got similar problem? The problem only happen while sharing using afp and smb method. I have no problem with ftp, ftp sharing is working perfectly in any situation above.
    My conclussion : afp sharing is having problem when apply with static IP and connected to router (or wireless router only ??) is this an afp bug on snow ?
    Any idea ?
    Thanx

    I did pay the 12 dollars, but I think the program remembers with the free one.  If you didn't ever have to do port forwarding in the past, then you likely won't have to do it again.  I couldn't get modern warfare to play properly without it.  But your situation might be different.
    If you had it in the DMZ, then that is a work around to doing port forwarding, so that will still work for you as it did before, and if you reset it properly, then yes you will have to put the ps3 back in the dmz.
    just keep in mind if you changed your WiFI SSID or Password, it will reset to the default, and the default is found on your sticker that is on your router.

  • Bug or feature : Using portlets with edit mode on a page in the portal

    Hi,
    i am using Workshop 8.1 (GA release july) and i have discovered a bug (or a
    feature) with respect to the beta version.
    i have created a simple portlet with a view mode and an edit mode. When i
    place the portlet on the very first page of a one book portal, it works
    perfectly. However, i have a book with three pages and placed the portlet on
    the second page. Now when i put the portlet in edit mode, by clicking the
    edit button, i am directed to the first page of the portal and the portlet
    will not show.
    Inspection learned that the URL generated for the edit button, didn't
    contain the _pagelabel parameter. When i added the parameter manually it
    works fine.
    A final remark is that the buttons in the titlebar have no icons the browser
    can load.
    hope someone can help me out,
    Lodewijk

    Can you please post this question to weblogic.developer.interest.portal
    newsgroup.
    Thanks

  • Dynamic LOV with two static entries

    I need an additional static entry in a List of Values field.
    As my first static entry I use the Null condition.
    Or maybe somebody has a different idea how to accomplish the following:
    I want to be able to select all the entries of a table with a certain foreign key, all entries with the "value" NULL or just all entries.
    thanks

    I ran into more problems but i resolved them :D
    Since I want that at the first load 'all values' is selected... I needed to set :P1_SELECT to -1 when its NULL but that got me some trouble with select 'NULL Values'... thus I changed the NULL value of :P1_SELECT to -2.
    This solution has also the other convenience that at top of the select box is 'all values', second entry is 'null values' and all the following are build up dynamicly
    select d, r from (
    select ename d, empno r from emp -- your foreign key condition
    union

  • Xmonad with dual screen strange bug or feature !

    Hi,
    I am running xmonad with dual screen. The strange thing (bug or feature) I noticed that when I move a window to another screen and then try to change the workspace, the window moves along to the same workspace but lands on the other screen.
    Is there any way to switch off this feature. I googled a bit and replaced the greedyView parameter with view but it didn't help.
    regards,
    Hardik

  • Express and extreme both "n" with static vs dhcp reservations.

    Good day, and thanks for reading.
    I have an express that I have configured to "extend my wireless network" with my extreme. This is all setup manually, with no internet connection needed. everything is static and I am just using the wireless and switch of the routers.
    I have 4 electronic components that have static IP addresses _and_ I have added the mac addresses to the DHCP reservation list as well.
    I would prefer to leave everything with just the manual addresses in mac access control, however- the apple log does not show the connections for these components with static addresses. However, they do show up on the log as connected in the DHCP client log when I am using DHCP only.
    My questions are;
    1. Does it hurt performance on the routers to have the mac addresses filled in on both the DHCP reservation list, and the mac address control list?
    2. Do I need to have all the mac addresses for my connected components on both the extreme and the express or, can I just have them inserted on the extreme- and are there any conflicts that can arise with having them coded on both routers?
    I just want to be able to see the connections on the log, and currently it will only show them if I am using DHCP.
    Thanks you.

    Hello chrisinoswego. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    1. Does it hurt performance on the routers to have the mac addresses filled in on both the DHCP reservation list, and the mac address control list?
    No.
    2. Do I need to have all the mac addresses for my connected components on both the extreme and the express or, can I just have them inserted on the extreme- and are there any conflicts that can arise with having them coded on both routers?
    When employing MAC Access Control, the MAC addresses would need to be entered in each base station. The only conflict that I am aware of is when the (in this case) two MAC lists are not identical.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Domain and SMB Names with static IP - bug

    I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. I have gone into it's web configuration and have found 2 issues.
    1. I can not specify the Domain Name in the network configuration when setting a static IP address. Either for wired, or wireless connections.
    If the printers IP address is DHCP assigned, it will get the defined domain name from the DHCP server.
    2. Renaming the printer will not carry through to it's SMB name for reading the memory card/USB when using a static IP. It uses the following SMB name: \\HP<mac address>
    If the printers IP addres is DHCP assigned, it will use the defined name.
    BUT, either with DHCP or Static IP address, the printer registers itself to a router as "HP<mac address>"

    I think I have now sorted my issue. Somehow it sorted itself out when I repeated something that i'd already tried. However I will leave this topic open incase any other members have a similar issue and I may be able to help them with it.

  • Remove static entry with tcl + ios_config when in use

    Hi all.
    We are using a TCL script to to change NAT entries. It works fine but when the entry is in use, the delete entry command ios_config "no ip nat inside source static tcp <local ip> <local port> <global ip> <global port> extendable" "end" returns :
    Static entry in use, do you want to delete child entries? [no]:
    %: Error: static entry in use, cannot remove
    Is it possible to 'interact' inside the TCL script so when the ios_config command returns 'Static entry in use, do you want to delete child entries? [no]:' the script could send 'Y' to remove the entries?
    Thanks in advance.

    We've solved using forced in spite of extendable, so :
    ios_config "no ip nat inside source static tcp <local ip> <local port> <global ip> <global port> forced"
