Bug or Virus?

Hey guys. This has never happened to me before.
I have SAFARI
and FIREFOX
for some reason now I am getting AUTO JUMP BACKS
and SIDECARS
all this crap making it impossible to DOWNLOAD files using these browsers.
I can use others successfully.
But, I was used to using FIREFOX.....then when that started acting funky
I went to SAFARI...
Get this...
IN SAFARI.....I download APPLE software from the APPLE site
and suddenly it acts as if I have already done it.
Then, it goes into a hissy.....ha ha ha
I looked under the HISTORY or GO
and I see funny AUTO BACKs........what are these?>
Normally I would see PAGES........I have visited....
and the funny thing is that they have FIREFOX icons!
so it looks as if FIREFOX is SABOTAGE SAFARI
or somehow they got their WIRES CROSSED?
now I have already done the OBVIOUS.....
I have DUMPED the APPS........and even dug around to see anything missing in the LIBRARY.......APP SUPP......PREF.....etc.
then I re-install........both PROGRAMS.....
still screwed
Can somebody tell me I am not a monkey in a cage?
and they are POKING fun at me?
What did I do?
I was HAVING a GOOD DAY........
please help.
much thanks........to the guru who solves this one.

Well. If this ever happens too you!
I found out what it was!!!!
DEEP in the /INTERNET PLUG-INS
There was a SPEED DOWNLOAD plug left....
I had simply TRASHED the DEMO not feeling it was really helping me? OUCH!
That is a funky think....I have never had that HAPPEN before...I will try and report it to SPEED DOWNLOAD...
I thought it was only on WINDOWS things that would screw up...
but, then again...it IS a PLUG-in....
so I am familar with TDM and RTAS or AU or VST plugs...and their weird functions within any AUDIO APPLICATION. so I guess this isn' any different.
Good luck!

i have a macbook pro and seem to have a bug/virus as mackeeper and other various websites keep popping up on my safari

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same word you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • System crash after update to OS 10.4.9 on april,28 ( bug or virus ? )

After installing the update OS_10.4.9 direct from web and reboot the mac a half transparent black curtain falls from top to bottom and ask for power off/on. No keyboard input, no boot from CD possible. I bought a new harddisk installed system and applications and copied the data from the old harddisc, opening a folder with jpg images (some filename are with colons like "dog, cat and mouse.jpg" changed on PC Windows-XP) the finder closed the window and opens the home window. Doing this again it now runs in a loop (flashing windows). The effect grows. Going back and open the harddisk-icon the harddiskframe opens, disappears immediately and flashes.
I set up a new user, open the jpg folder ... same problem.
    ClamXav (mai,2) shows no problems.

Which version of Java are you using (output of java -version)?
It sounds awfully like it could be a regression in Java introduced by Apple in the 10.4.9 update. But for what it's worth, on my 2 GHz Intel Core Duo that I also recently updated to 10.4.9, I'm able to run JDev without problems.
    My java -version reports:
    dubh-pc:~ brianduff$ java -version
    java version "1.5.0_07"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_07-164)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_07-87, mixed mode, sharing)Do other large java applications (besides Eclipse) work? E.g. NetBeans? (not encouraging you to switch, of course, just trying to narrow down the problem some).
Another thing to try is running JDev directly using its shell script. You can do this by running Terminal and then executing:
    /Applications/JDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/jdev/jdev/bin/jdev
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Dreamweaver Bug or Virus

    Hi All,
Here is the last few lines of code on one of may .html pages:
    <div id="NorrisoftEnhanceLoader" style="position:absolute;
    left: 0px; top: 0px; z-index:99; visibility: visible;"/>
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="EnhanceFolder/enhanceJS.js"></script>
    <script
    type="text/javascript">if(document.browserOK){try{EnhanceLoaderObject.addVariable("projec tXMLFile",
    "EnhanceFolder/targetPageEnhanceInventory/inventory.xml")}catch (e)
    {}; try{EnhanceLoaderObject.write("NorrisoftEnhanceLoader")}catch
    (e)
    {}}else{NorrisoftEnhanceLoader.style.visibility="hidden"};</script>
    </body>
    </html>
The next time I open it in Dreamweaver, it looks like this:
    <div id="NorrisoftEnhanceLoader" style="position:absolute;
    left: 0px; top: 0px; z-index:99; visibility: visible;"/>
    <script
    type="text/javascript">if(document.browserOK){try{EnhanceLoaderObject.addVariable("projec tXMLFile",
    "EnhanceFolder/targetPageEnhanceInventory/inventory.xml")}catch (e)
    {}; try{EnhanceLoaderObject.write("NorrisoftEnhanceLoader")}catch
    (e)
    {}}else{NorrisoftEnhanceLoader.style.visibility="hidden"};</script>
    </body>
    </html>
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="EnhanceFolder/enhanceJS.js"></script>
So I fix it and click save again and the same line that is
out of place is one more line down the page. Each time I repeat
this process, the line marches ever further down the page.
    Someone is F*cking with me.
    Any ideas?

Perhaps it's you writing bad XHTML. Remove the forward slash
    before the
closing angle bracket, and put a closing </div> tag at
    the end of the div.

  • SAFARI bug or virus?

Please help! when i open safari on my macbook air, this comes up , xn--,mv,m%20%...%20%,  at first i tried deleting firefox, because when it first happened , firefox opened, but that didn't work. Next i tried resetting safari, and clearing the cookies but it didn't work as well, please help on how i can fix this, should i completely remove safari? or are there any other ways to fix this problem

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Check for bugs/virus on MacBook?

My wife got an email this morning on her MacBook (earthlink account) that looks like someone may have hacked into her or our daughter's email address book. How do we find out if there is a bug or virus on her Macbook that needs to be removed ?

What kind of an e-mail was this, and what about it makes you think of hacking?
If there are indications that your wife's or daughter's e-mail accounts may have been used to send e-mail by someone else, see:
Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!
If this is just a weird e-mail received from someone in their Address Book, that may be an issue of the sending e-mail account being hacked, or the sender's Windows computer being infected with malware.

  • My computer is clean, bug-free, with the most current updates on AdBlock & Firefox, yet I still get rollover ads and "fake" links embedded into websites:( Help!

I have Firefox 18.0, AdBlock 2.2.1, am up-to-date on my Windows 7, have no bugs nor viruses, but still there are "fake" hyperlinks embedded in websites. Also, rollover ads are making a presence again. Any suggestions? Tweaking the Java settings doesn't help. I haven't done Flashblock it blocks a lot of my work crud, but would be willing to deal with that annoyance if someone feels that it would be the resolution to my problem.

There are a lot of IntelliTXT like ''ad'' pop-ups possible.
If your current Adblock Plus filter settings aren't blocking some pop-ups then it is best to take this to the Adblock Plus forum.

  • Possible virus--gmail stuck downloading impossible files

since last thursday, my laptop hasn't been able to display incoming messages for just one of my gmail accounts. it can send out through that account, albeit very slowly. i can use the account normally both through the web browser and through the mail program on my ipad connected to the internet by sharing from that same laptop. but the laptop icon next to that account just keeps endlessly spinning, and the computer labors at full power incessantly.
then the hd filled up--about 70gb of free space mysteriously gone. i tracked it to a 'recovered messages' folder under mailbox in the library. there was a very long stack of 308 mb messages there, which appeared to be (based on the quicklook preview) an outgoing email of mine, obviously nowhere near that size (and of course gmail doesn't permit mail that size anyway). the original recipient got that original email, and even replied to it. but i can't force mail to stop creating these files, rendering the program unusable.
anyone out there have any clue how i can stop this? i've already gone online and tried to delete any messages on the server from about that time frame.
    thanks in advance.

thank you thomas--that pointed me in the direction to get what i needed.
as a user named miguel lira posted some time back, the key is to delete a folder called "offlinecache" in the library/mail/ folder for the sick email account. i quote his message below:

Posted: Sep 15, 2009 10:12 PM in response to: PanchoLopez
If you're experiencing the "Recovered Messages" issue it may be related to offline processes that are failing when you open iMail. For me the fix was to open a terminal window and delete all the files in the following folder: ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache
    end quote
i didn't use terminal, just turned on find invisible files in the finder and searched below the directory for that email, and deleted the matching folder. i also deleted the folder called recovered messages, which some posters have suggested. (that folder was recreated, empty, once i started up mail again.) mail now appears to be working as it should be, and i have easy access once again to the last week's worth of email from my primary account.
if this is, as many other posters who've suffered the malfunction, an apple bug, it is a doozy. some posters have suggested that it happened when they tried to send a file that was too large, but in my case i know that was not the cause; the 'stuck' email started out as about 200kb, not that large as my daily email use goes, and it arrived to the person i sent it to intact and the proper size. but the email which was being endlessly replicated and filling up my hd was 308mb. this is why i suspected some kind of malware might be at work; what tried to send such a file? it darn sure wasn't me.
whatever the actual cause, bug or virus, i hope this can be cleared up, because that is not something i want to go through again. i lost several days of productivity because i couldn't do any photo editing--or anything else--with my hard drive mysteriously full.
thanks again thomas, and also miguel.

  • Found a fix for this:  Unable to open Itunes Store on windows XP

    Hi,
I have been searching for this all weekend.  For the last month we have been unable to connect to Itunes store.  We can connect to the Internet and also access to itunes itself.  I have phoned Apple as well as our service provider.  No luck with the solutions offered.  I have uninstalled and downloaded it again.  I have done the winsock suggestion.  I have disabled the firewall solution.  I have gone into security settings and clicked enable the miscellaneous part.  I have run as administrator.  Basically everything from this forum and numerous others and also from advice from apple and my service provider.  NOTHING WORKED for me on this computer.  However on my Laptop which is vista the winsock fix did work.  Still didn't solve my desktop until I found another solution and tried.  Blow me down it worked.  2 days and hooray.....finally.  I found this on a Geek website called "geeks to go" and I have cut and pasted it from there.
    This is it.
Copy and paste the text in the code box below into Notepad.
    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts  echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts  popd  ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew  ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0
Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Double-click flush.bat file to run it. Your computer will reboot.
Note: For Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click flush.bat and select "Run as Administrator".
Hope this one helps anyone out there that has tried most of the other fixes.  No bugs or viruses from this...so far.
    Steve

You're probably going to need to install service pack 2 or 3.

  • Automatic font size/type change after sending - why and how do I fix it?

This only seems to happen when I copy text from a web page and paste it into a compsosing email within Mail but it does not display on screen as anything different until the email is sent.
Here is an excerted screenshot from an email that was sent. When I composed it there appeared to be normality but after sending it changed.
A little more background on when this seems to happen. My french is not good. I use dictionary.com to translate text then copy and paste it to the email. I am not sure if this is the only circumstance of when this debacle happens but it seems to be constant when I follow the previous steps. Note: If I am not troubleshooting when it happens and I highlight all text (even though it looks normal) before sending then manually change the font size or font type and revert back to the size type then it does not always happen but still will periodically.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Is it a known bug or virus?

    This is not a virus.
It's important to keep in mind that Mail sends HTML e-mail, when the text needs to be "styled" in any way, rather than just plain text, and not all mail clients will display that in the same way (or even at all). Also, Mail doesn't really have much in the way of editing capabilities for HTML e-mail.
Fortunately, from what you describe, there's a solution... if text you are copying from somewhere and pasting into Mail has strange formatting, try command-option-shift-v, or Edit -> Paste and Match Style, to paste the text. This discards all the style information attached to the copied text, and pastes just the text itself, making the text match the style of whatever you're pasting it into.

  • Re-installing PSE 10 on Win 7 pro 64

I'm having a issue involving re-installing PSE/PE10 onto my new Win 7 pro 64 home build.
    It started with-
I had an issue right in the middle of installing software onto this new machine.
I have multiple Hard Drives installed and during a recovery from being hit with some bugs (malware/virus) during all this installation I thought it best to unplug some of those drives to minimize potential damage.
I had already installed PSE/PE 10 onto those drives and when I finally got back up and running the links to these installed programs no longer worked. Trying to re-define the links proved too much and so I thought a complete re-install of both programs should do it.
    I un-installed both programs
Un-install, cleaned registry, found more folders (reading forums here) deleted those, cleaned registry, rebooted thru several of these processes,..and did manage to re-install PE 10, but PSE 10 is giving me fits and I can't figure out what else to do.
I go to re-install PSE 10 and the only choice I get is to REMOVE the s/w from the pc (even tho it's already uninstalled). Okay, I'll do that and THEN proceed but- after offering to deactivate my software on this pc (okay I can do that) the only option it then gives me is to delete, fine, but when I select that option it then takes me to a window that informs me that the disk doesn't have the room available and even tho other disks are avail to click on, doing so doesn't allow any other selections to be made. The TARGET area (even tho it is for uninstall) is the install disk drive and I can't make another selection. So it ultimately does nothing!
I managed to get PE 10 back onto the drive, what in the world remnants are staying behind to give Win 7 the impression that I still have the program installed and not allowing me to do just that- re-install it??
Could really use some assistance on doing this before I wipe the whole HD as a last resort- ugh!
ps- uninstalled Air, Organizer and any/all folders I could find related to anything Adobe thinking it was interferring with this

    I managed to RegEdit those areas but must have gotten heavy heanded in that, after cleaning all instances of Adobe out of the Registry I get another problem. I just went to try and install PSE 10 after doing as much cleaning as I know how;
checking the registry as you suggested
running a registry tool to check for  missing links etc
rebooting after each pass to clean the drive
When I went to install it tells me an error on the windows installer- "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your suppport"
I must have taken too much out of the Registry. Is there a method to restore? Would that fix the issue?
    Thanks for the assistance
ps- FYI, upon trying to run the PE10 installer it seems as if that was going to work. I cancelled out of it until I fix the PSE 10 issue. But it did get further than the PSE installer and no error messages.

  • My laptop continues to close down Safari unexpectedly. It is relatively new {MacBook Air purchased June 2014} and I don't think this should be happening. Is there something wrong? How do I fix this?

How can this be fixed if it can be fixed? No bugs or viruses are on the computer as far as I know. All other applications work perfectly on the laptop, so it is strange that the Safari continues to closedown. I can use Safari and it does work for the majority of time, but there are times when the Safari closes out.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • White screen of death + blank text msg from 900080006010

So I woke up this morning and my iphone had turned itself off overnight.  It had been plugged into the charger the whole night.  I tried to turn it back on but it was difficult and reset it about 10 times before it finally turned on.  It went to the apple screen for awhile and then to the loading screen (spokes) and then there was a splash of blue and then went to the white screen of death.  I reset several times and the same thing happened.
I found online about pressing the volume buttons while resetting and this worked - my iphone screen reset to its regular screen.  When I went into my text messages there was a blank text from 900080006010.  Additionally I had gotten a normal text from my friend overnight.
I'm wondering is this some type of bug or virus?  My iphone is working at the moment but its just strange that these two things happened at the same time and I really haven't found much from searching online.
    Thank you for your help!

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ads intruding on my browsers

I'm being bombarded by ads. When surfing the Internet, I constantly find myself forwarded to commercial/spam sites that I had no intention of visiting.
I just discovered that when I view a web page, certain key words (e.g. "save," "computer," etc.) in an article are somehow transformed to all caps and perhaps bold and are blue, indicating a hyperlink. They also have little green icons in the upper right corner.
Have I picked up some kind of bug or virus, or do the spamsters now have the ability to pirate other people's websites, inserting their own links?
To put it another way, can you see the links I'm describing on the following article? There's one in the very last paragraph and a cluster of three in the first two paragraphs under the heading "Desperate times." I can see them in both Safari and Chrome. Thanks.
