Bug: Previewing a dynamic form causes acrobat to crash

When I click on the preview pdf tab, i get an error that says Adobe Acrobat has stopped working. I am using Livecycle ES and Acrobat 8.1.1. I am also running on vista.

Adobe Audition engineering has acknowledged the issue, and determined it has - so far, at least - been the result of using a software "crack" to modify the executable and bypass the licensing scheme.  Unfortunately, as Adobe is not affiliated with the software piracy group who released this tool, and they have yet to respond to our invitation to discuss the matter in more depth, we are not at liberty to provide any solution other than suggesting the purchase of a licensed edition from an appropriate retailer.
On the other hand, the Everett Many-Worlds Interpretation holds that there is the possibility the same bug has manifested on a legitimate installation, and I would be very happy to investigate this further with your assistance.  If you launch Audition and click Help > About Adobe Audition > System Info  then send the resulting text file as an email attachment to [email protected]  I'll respond as soon as I can verify the legitimacy of the installation, and we can determine the source of this issue.
I would be very excited to find the problem exists with legitimate, purchased editions, not because I want bugs in this application, but because I would not wish to have the dozens of hours spent investigating, discussing, and trying to reproduce this issue to have been in vain.  However, so far we have spent far too much time trying to assist thieves demanding support for a product not paid for - time and effort that draws our attention from developing new features, helping answer real questions, and fixing issues that we are within our control.

  • Saving dynamic forms in Acrobat Reader

How do you create PDF dynamic forms and save them so that they can be completed and saved  in Acrobat Reader.

Thank you very much for your help. As I said this was my first attempt with Livecyle. I had sold the concept of dynamic forms to a collegue and promised to do a dynamic form one for him before going on a winter holiday. Completed the form in a hurry only to find I could not enable users with Acrobat Reader. My worry was that I would not be able to save dynamic forms without additional software, but your helpful comments confirm its something I have done that is causing my issue.
I think Livecycle is a great product, but fragmented information is available for individual users. Bought the Book PDF Forms Using LifeCycle Designer (Acrobat 9) and joined PDFscripting web service which are both good in there own way. I get confused with Adobe's help, not being IT techie and the difference of Enterprise Editions of LifeCycle on how to get the best out of LiveCycle.
Many thanks George for you assistance, I will retry when I return from my winter break.

  • How to creater dynamic form in Acrobat 9

Can I make a form that will dynamically add pages (with header and footer) when needed in Adobe Acrobat 9 and if so where is the best documentation on how to do this?

You can dynamically add pages using templates. This requires some relatively simple JavaScript programming. It will work in Acrobat (Pro or Standard) and Reader 11 (Win/mac), but not previous versions of Reader. Here are some links to the Acrobat javaScript reference:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_Dev_Templates.80.1.html
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_Dev_Templates.80.2.html
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.1216.html
If you don't get a two-paned window with the navigation pane on the left, click "Show Navigation" icon in the upper-left.
If it has to work with previous versions for Reader, Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows comes with the LiveCycle Designer application. With it you can create dynamic XFA forms that can work with Reader.

  • Form causes frequent DEP crashes

I have a form created in LiveCycle 8.2.1.  I've added the form to a public "briefcase" from my campus collaboration suite:
    http://huskymail.mtu.edu/home/[email protected]/Adobe//huskymail.mtu.edu/home/[email protected]/Adobe
I use it to review a thesis or dissertation submitted to the Graduate School.  I have three master pages for the form:
    Page 1:  first page
Page 2: Required items student must complete
Page 3: Recommended items student may complete
As the required section is paginated, it flows onto the required page so that there is a heading at the top of each page saying the items are required.  Likewise for the recommended items.  Since not all students have the same problems, when I check an area of concern for their review, a text box appears that I can enter my comments in. Since the amount of commenting varies between students, the text field allows multiple lines of text.
*Sometimes* when the subforms paginate over the page, the form crashes.  I've gotten in the habit of copying the text in a field before I exit it, because that is when the form crashes.  When I paste the SAME text in the SAME field, the crash is not repeated.
As I work with the form, I can easily have 0 or 5 crashes within a single use of the form (within 60 minutes).  I lose any data since the last save.
I've recently rebuilt the entire form from scratch, replacing a table format with just flowed and positioned subforms.  The old form also only used one master page, but both are crashing in exactly the same way.  I get a "Data Execution Prevention" error, with the following details:
    EventType : BEX     P1 : Acrobat.exe     P2 : 9.3.0.148     P3 : 4b3090a5
    P4 : unknown     P5 : 0.0.0.0     P6 : 00000000     P7 : 09c6c6f8
    P8 : c0000005     P9 : 00000008
The P7 code changes every time.
I'm running Windows XP.  My RAM was recently upgraded.  I used to get a different error on crashing before my RAM was upgraded and I was using hard drive space for RAM, but now I get the DEP error.
My tech support has tried to turn off DEP protection, but has been unable to make it stick so far.
Are there any suggestions out there?  Although the crashes happen frequently for me, it's only when I work with the form by typing and exiting fields that it crashes.  I have had less crashes when I run it on my laptop, but it has still crashed.

I tried your form to replicate the issue but I could not.. (you already mentioned that not all Students have the issue)..
On your form I did few changes as below. May be you can see if this helps..But I am not sure about the error why it is coming and what is the meaning of the error codes.
The modified form can be accessed from below link.

  • Combining PDF Form causes fields to disappar, Acrobat to crash when trying to edit combined PDF

I have a 10 page PDF form that I can edit normally.  I combine it using the Combine Files wizard.  The resulting PDF has several fields disappear upon saving, and causes Acrobat to crash every time if I try to edit the form.  I can combine the original PDF form with no other document, and the error still occurs.  I have several similarly named fields, such as Name#1 and Name#2, and it seems that all those fields disappear after going through the Combine Files process.  I can open the resulting PDF, and fill in the remaining fields, but attempting to edit the form causes Acrobat to crash each and every time.
I have used this process before, with no problems, but it fails every time on this form.
This is the error in the Event Viewer: Faulting application Acrobat.exe, version 10.0.0.396, time stamp 0x4cc5ebc0, faulting module AcroForm.api, version 10.0.0.396, time stamp 0x4cc5f5cc, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0012d905
This is using Acrobat X Standard and Pro on XP Pro and Vista.
If I open the original PDF, and insert a new PDF as new pages, that works fine.
I updated Acrobat to the latest patch, problem remains.  I don't know how to resolve this.

Did a little more testing and this is what I found. If I use the "Insert from file" feature to combine a cover sheet plus 3 AcroForms (inserting each file one by one), eveyrthing appears to work.  However, if I use the "Combine via Acrobat" feature I run into the issue of fields disappearing once combined.
I shoudl also add that perhaps the issue had something to do with the fact that I initally produced the cover page pdf via Photoshop "save as PDF". Perhaps that contirbutted to the structure issue despite it being a PDF...maybe under the hood things are structured differently.  Who knows.
Just FYI for others: What appears to be working is using the "Insert from file" option vs "Combing via Acrobat". Also, if you are including a non-AcroForm PDF, be sure it a traditional vs. saving as a PDF from Photoshop.
Alot of this may be a fluke, but it seems to fix my issue - for now.

  • Problems working with XFA forms in Acrobat

I recently upgraded from Acrobat X Pro to Acrobat XI Pro.  I thought this would be an upgrade but I am missing X for several reasons.  I created a dynamic form in Acrobat that has several expanding tables.  I have distributed this form to several people within my company and they fill out the data and return it to me.  At times I need to get the data from the tables into a spreadsheet.  With Acrobat X Pro I would simply highlight the table I wanted to export and right clicked  'exported selection as' and saved it as a workbook.  Now that I have Acrobat XI I try to do the same thing, but when I click 'save' I get the error 'PDF files containing XFA forms cannot be saved to the specified format.  I have also tried saving the entire document as a spreadsheet with the same outcome.  Is there any other way to pull the data from a fillable XFA form into excel or am I stuck?
Any help or response will be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue.  Is there a trick we don't know about?

  • Commenting on Dynamic Forms

I have several forms that I have created in LiveCycle Designer. Some are static, others are dynamic. When I do any sort of comment (strikethrough, hignlight, etc) on a static form using Acrobat Pro, everything works fine. But on dynamic forms, although I get the options to comment on a form, nothing actually happens when I do so.
Does commenting on dynamic forms in Acrobat not work or am I doing something wrong?

  • Dynamic Forms and PDF Preview

I'm new to PDF forms and designer. I have encountered 2 issues that I can't get around.
1 - PDF Preview - When I go from "body pages" to "PDF Preview" it goes into a script saying it can't download from a website and errors out. I believe it worked properly for awhile. Is this normal ? I tried to reload and repair my acrobat, but to no avail.
2 - I'm trying to create a dynamic form and there is very little info on creating a dynamic form and what info I have found is very evasive?
I'm trying to create a form section that has line items. I would like to have the line items expand by an input, by the user. example: the user enters # items to order "6" and then six line items appear for the user to fill out

    Hello Dave,
I can't say I've seen issue 1 before and would recommend contacting support.
For item 2 I would suggest wrapping your 'line' of text in a subform then creating a script to use the setInstance method for that subform.
Let's say you had a subform named "TextLine" (which contained a text field), a numeric field called "NumberOfLines" and a button called "SetLines". You would likely want to have javascript code on the SetLines button click event much like:
    TextLine.instanceManager.setInstances(NumberOfLines,rawValue);
You will want to save this form as a Dynamic PDF before previewing and you will want to ensure that TextLine allows for more than one occurence (found under Object - Binding, Allow Subform to Repeat when you have that subform selected).
You may also want to put in some validation against the NumberOfLines field to ensure it has a value.
    I hope that helps.

  • Dynamic Form - Open in Acrobat - Import Data - Expand

I have created an dynamic form with the Designer 7.0. It does repeat one line. When changing to the Desinger PDF preview, using a XML as an import file, the line gets repeated serveral times.
What I'd like to achieve is, that I can use Acrobat 7 for this. Opening the Form as a PDF, import the Data, and the lines should repeate.
    Is this possbile?
Do I need to do some scripting for this?
    Thankx, Cheers Harry

Thankx to dohanlon - he provided the following information in another thread AND IT DID HELP! THANKX:
Make sure your form is saved as a dynamic form. Other formats will not allow you to add / remove items using static / Acro 6 compatability mode.
Also make sure your structure for the items use the following
    + Subform (Flow Content)
    + Subform (Position Content)
    + Fields, etc
and make sure you have your Position Content Subform set to repeat.

  • Dynamic Hyperlinks in Acrobat Form

    Hi
I am creating a suite of forms in Acrobat, in which I will need a number of hyperlinks.  I can see how to set up a standard hyperlink using the normal form edit functionality, but what I am looking for is a little away from the norm and will need some scripting, which is something I know very little about.
Can anybody help me in how to script a button in Acrobat to hyperlink to a static address with a dynamic ending?
Basically, what I am trying to acieve is a button that will link to Google Maps and show the property that is detailed in the form (so there will be the static element of www.google.co.uk/maps/, but I need the post code that has been entered in the address details to be pasted onto the end of that address so the button will take the user straight from the from to the correct location on Google Maps).
Can anybody help me with this?

You can use something like this (let's say the Postcode field is called just that):
    var postcode = this.getField("Postcode").valueAsString;
    app.launchURL("http://www.google.co.uk/maps/"+postcode);

  • Dynamic Forms and WF

    Hello,
I have designed a dynamic form, where user can add rows dynamically by clicking a button on the form, the form is working fine in preview in designer.
this form is initiating a LC WF process, but, if I deploy this form to form manager as an XDP and choose to render it to PDF, adding rows function does not work, however if I save this as dynamic PDF from LC designer and deploy it again to form manager, it works !!
However, I can not use PDF generated from LC Designer since I found that commenting and annotations are not working ( I am using acrobat ) which is an important feature, also, web services calls are not working even, again from Acrobat!
How can I set the form server installed with workflow server to render XDP templates into dynamic PDF forms ?
Or alternatively how to enable commenting and fix web service calls in PDF rendered form ?
    Thank you for help,
    Greetings,

By default Forms and Form Manager are configured to render a PDF as either static or dynamic based on some values in the XDP. By default those values will tell it to render a static PDF. What you can do, in Designer save as a dynamic PDF, then open the dynamic PDF in Designer and save as an XDP. Upload that XDP to Form Manager, the tags will be present to tell it to be rendered as a dynamic PDF. There's a better way if you are using Designer 7.1 and Forms 7.1, but since I don't know your environment this is a way that will work regardless of versions.
Annotations will not work in dynamic PDF's though. Currently annotations make no sense in dyanmic PDF's since the template of the PDF can dynamically change while annotations are bound to a specific location. IE: You have a dynamic PDF that is initial 4 pages and add an annotation to page 4. Later the template of the PDF changes based on data and user interaction and it is now a 2 page PDF, but the annotation is still on page 4 which no longer exists...

  • Issue tabbing across page breaks in dynamic form

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem that I'm having trouble getting to the bottom of, relating to my dynamic form.
This form grows and shrinks depending on how the user fills it out.  I have a questionnaire section where certain questions are hidden or shown depending on previous input.
Things get interesting when I look at the tab order.  Sometimes when tabbing forward or backward across page breaks, the focus lands on a spot that I cannot identify.  There will be no cursor and I can not type.  However if I continue to tab in the same direction, I can see that it is still going in the correct sequence.  It just looks like for some reason, in those places, focus is put in the wrong component.  But if I type different input into the prior fields (ones that affect the length of the pages) that causes the field to move to different place where it's not adjacent to a page break, and then tabbing to the field in either direction works fine.  It seems that only when it's beside a page break, it becomes problematic.
Also, it only seems to be a problem if the field gets moved to be adjacent to a page break AFTER the form is initially rendered.  If the field was originally beside a page break by default, then it seems to work fine.
Just to rule out a possible problem with the tab order configuration, I set my from to Automatic tabs, and even went as far as removing all the <traversal> elements from the form.
After doing either of those things, the problem still persists.
    Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi Eric,
I have seen funny behaviour when tabbing within Preview in LC Designer. It may be picking up a read-only item in the Master Page.
    Good luck,
    Niall
